Photobiomodulation therapy using Light Emitting Diode (LED) with a certain period and intensity can stimulate tissue repair and accelerate orthodontic tooth movement. During remodeling, collagen on periodontal ligaments was formed on the pressure and tension sides. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of exposure time and observation day of blue LED on the collagen density of periodontal ligament of the pressure and tension sides of Wistar rats. Forty-eight male Wistar rats aged 3-4 months weighing 300-500 grams were divided into four groups: the control group; the group exposed to LED with λ1000 nm of 490 mW/cm2 for 25, 30, and 35 seconds once a day. In addition, their mandibular inter-incisor was administered with thirty-five grams orthodontic force using an open coil spring. The calculations on the collagen density of pressure and tension sides were carried out on days 0, 3, 7, and 14 using the TinEye application. Statistical analysis test was conducted using two-way ANOVA and LSD post hoc test. The results showed a more significant increase in the collagen density of the pressure and tension sides than that of the control group (p <0.05). The collagen density of pressure and tension sides reach the highest point at 30 seconds exposure followed by 35 and 25 seconds. The collagen density of pressure sides decreased on the 3rd day and increased afterward, and the tension sides continued to increase on the 3rd day afterward. The study showed that blue light LEDs were able to increase collagen density on the pressure and tension sides, with optimal exposure at 30 seconds, and it reached the highest point at day 14.

Background: The extract of ramania Bouea macrophylla Griff) and binjai (Mangifera caesia) leaf have flavonoid compounds that function as antioxidants to balance the amount of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) in tissues and optimize wound healing by helping synthesis of hydroxyproline which is used as a collagen synthesis material. Objective: To compare the effect of 15% concentration of ramania leaf extract gel, 15% concentration of binjai leaf extract gel on collagen density in back incision wounds of male Wistar rats on day 7 and day 14. Methods: This study used a true experimental design with a posttest-only with control group design. The study sample used male wistar rats that were healthy and active, aged 2-3 months with a body weight of 250-300 grams. The total sample was 18 rats divided into 6 groups. The 15% concentration of ramania and binjai leaves was given topically, then the rats were euthanized on the 7th and 14th day. Collagen index measurement was using hydroxyproline concentration. Results: Two-way Anova data analysis showed a significant value of 0.00 (p<0.05), which means that there was a difference in effect between the treatment gel and wound day. Bonferroni Post Hoc test showed a significant value in all treatment gel groups. Conclusion: There is a difference in the effect of 15% concentration of ramania leaf extract gel and 15% concentration of binjai extract gel on collagen density. Binjai leaf extract gel at 15% concentration is more effective for collagen density than Ramania leaf extract at 15% concentration and placebo. Keywords : Binjai Leaf Extract Gel, Collagen, Hydroxyproline, Ramania Leaf Extract Gel.

Background: Mechanical force of orthodontics causes changes in periodontal ligament vascularization and blood flow, resulting in biochemical and cellular changes as well as changes in the contour of the alveolar bone and in the thickness of the periodontal ligaments. Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy is one of many solutions stimulating the growth of new blood vessels and increasing tissue oxygenation. Thus, HBO plays a role in recovery of periodontal ligament and osteoblasts. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effects of HBO therapy for seven days on periodontal ligament size and osteoblast number in the tension site during bone remodeling in tooth movement. Method: The study was true experimental laboratories with completely randomized control group post test only design. Twenty-four males guinea pigs were randomly divided into three groups. K0 was the control group without any treatment, K1 was the group given a mechanical orthodontic pressure, and K2 was the group treated with the addition of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The maxillary incisors were moved distally by elastic separator. After HBO therapy on day 7, all of the groups were sacrificed, and then periodontal ligament size and osteoblast number were analyzed by one-way Anova and LSD statistical tests. Result: The results showed significant differences in the size of the periodontal ligament and the number of osteoblasts in the tension site among the groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: HBO therapy at 2.4 ATA for 7 days is effective in recovery of periodontal ligament and increased osteoblast number during bone remodeling in tension area of orthodontic tooth movement.

<p><strong><em>Background:</em></strong><em> Periodontitis is complication of DM in chronic state. Periodontitis susceptibility increase threefold in patient DM compared non-DM. Debridement with SRP alone is less effective in DM</em><em>. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO) has the effect of increasing insulin sensitivity and synthesis of collagen. Collagen is the largest extracellular matrix supporting periodontal tissue. Stchopus hermanii contains condrotin sulfate serves to inhibit the formation of mixed periodontopatogen bacteri. <strong>Purpose:</strong> To determine the therapeutic effects of  HBO 2,4 ATA 3x3’ interval 5’ 7 days and stichopus hermanii against periodontal ligament collagen density in the healing process of periodontitis with DM. <strong>Materials and Methods:</strong></em><em>The experiment design is factorial design. Rats are inducted with STZ 65 mg/kgBB to make them suffer DM and are inducted with P.gingivalis </em><em>1x10<sup>9</sup>sel/ml for 5 days straight to make them suffer periodontitis</em><em>,</em><em> 20 male Wistar rats were divided into 4 groups. AbstractZoledronic acid (ZA) is often prescribed for osteoporosis or resorptive metabolic bone disease. This study aims to evaluate the effect of ZA on orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) and root and bone resorption and its repercussion on root, periodontal ligament and alveolar bone tissues. The experimental group consisted of 72 Wistar rats divided in four subgroups: Naive, Saline and Zoledronic Acid groups at the concentration of 0.2 mg/kg [ZA (0.2)] or 1.0 mg/kg [ZA (1.0)]. The animals were subjected to i.v (dorsal penile vein) administrations of ZA or saline solution, on days 0, 7, 14 and 42. Under anesthesia, NiTi springs were installed in the first left maxillary molar with 50gf allowing the OTM, except for the negative control group (N) for mesial movement of the left first maxillary teeth. The animals were sacrificed and maxillae were removed for macroscopic and histopathological analyzes, scanning electron microscopy, computerized microtomography and confocal microscopy. Treatment with ZA decreased the OTM and the number of osteoclasts and loss of alveolar bone when compared to the naive and saline groups. Reduction of radicular resorption, increased necrotic areas and reduced vascularization in the periodontal ligament were observed in the ZA groups. ZA interferes with OTM and presents anti-resorptive effects on bone and dental tissues associated with a decreased vascularization, without osteonecrosis.

ABSTRACT Objectives: To investigate the effects of irradiation lasers and light-emitting diode (LED) light on root resorption in rat molars during orthodontic tooth movement (OTM). Materials and Methods: Twenty-one 12-week-old Wistar male rats were divided into three groups: OTM only (control [CG]), OTM and LED irradiation (DG), and OTM and low laser irradiation therapy (LG). The distance between the first and second molars was used to evaluate the amount of tooth movement. The mesial surfaces of the distopalatal roots were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, and the area of the resorption was calculated. Results: Statistical analysis showed a decreased amount of tooth movement in the exposed DG or LG compared with CG, which was statistically significant (P = .031 and P = .004, respectively). However, when the DG and LG groups were compared, no statistically significant differences were found (P = .504). The root resorption areas were similar between CG and DG. However, statistically significant differences were found between LG and CG (P = .014) and LG and DG (P = .038). Conclusions: Phototherapy did not enhance tooth movement, while infrared laser irradiation did increase root resorption.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess tissue changes during orthodontic movement after binge-pattern ethanol 20% exposure.METHODS: Male Wistar rats (n = 54) were divided into two groups. The control group (CG) received 0.9% saline solution, while the experimental group (EG) received 20% ethanol in 0.9% saline solution (3 g/kg/day). On the 30th day, a force of 25 cN was applied with a nickel-titanium closed coil spring to move the maxillary right first molar mesially. The groups were further divided into three subgroups (2, 14 and 28 days). Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase and picrosirius were used to assess bone resorption and neoformation, respectively. Data were compared by two-way ANOVA, Tukey's HSD, Games-Howell and chi-square test. Significance level was set at 5%.RESULTS: There was a decrease in the number of osteoclasts in EG at day 28. The percentage of collagen showed no interaction between group and time.CONCLUSION: Binge-pattern 20% ethanol promoted less bone resorption at the end of tooth movement, thereby suggesting delay in tooth movement.
