The aim of this research was evaluation of dahi prepared from cow and buffalo skim milk addition of mango juice. Four types of dahi were prepared from cow’s and buffalo’s skim milk which designated by A (cows skim milk), B (cows skim milk with 10% mango juice), C (buffalo’s skim milk) and D (buffalo’s skim milk with 10% mango juice). The quality of prepared dahi was measured by organoleptic, chemical and microbiological test. Smell and taste, body and consistency, colour and texture score of dahi improved due to adding mango juice to compare with their control group. The overall acceptability score of B and D sample were 85.67±1.53 and 81.67±4.04 which higher than both control group. From chemical analysis, it was found higher total solids in 10% mango juice containing B (202.0±0.20 g/kg) and D (196.0±0.49 g/kg) dahi samples than both control groups. Again, lower fat and protein contents found in 10% mango juice containing B and D dahi samples. Total viable count was found significantly higher in both 10% mango juice containing B and D dahi samples than both control groups. In conclusion, that addition of mango juice with cow’s skim milk dahi or buffalo skim milk dahi were both better in terms of organoleptic and chemical qualities more acceptable than plain skim milk dahi.Asian J. This experiment was conducted to evaluate the quality of existing ultra-high temperature (UHT) treated milk available in two selected town markets of Bangladesh. A total of 27 UHT milk samples from three different brands–Pran Dairy (A), Aarong Dairy (B) and Farm Fresh (C) were collected from local markets at Mymensingh and Gazipur districts during the period of 1stSeptember to 29th November, 2014. Parameters studied in this experiment were organoleptic (flavour, consistency, colour and appearance), physic-chemical (specific gravity, acidity, total solids, solids-not-fat, fat, protein, lactose, and ash) and microbiological (Total Viable Count and Coliform Count). All the samples were similar in respect of color, flavor, taste and texture, and no significant difference was observed. However, significant differences were revealed (p<0.05) in case of specific gravity, acidity, total solids, solids-not-fat, and protein content. On the other hand, insignificant differences were found (p>0.05) in case of fat, lactose, and ash content. Total Viable Count and Coliform count were found to be nil in all the milk samples. Milk samples of Farm Fresh UHT milk were superior to other brands of UHT Milk in terms of contents of total solids (119.23±0.57 g/kg),fat (34.97±0.35g/kg), lactose (43.23±0.51g/kg), and ash (7.00±0.26g/kg). Though there were some fluctuations in all the parameters studied, all the milk samples conformed to the standard values for UHT milk, and in general all of the UHT milk samples studied in this experiment was of good quality.Bang. SummaryThe use of the methylene blue test for the examination of cows milk was investigated in an inter-laboratory survey. A poor relationship was found between results of these tests and total viable counts. Coliforms were detected in a large number of pasteurized milks, indicating frequent post-pasteurization contamination. No relationship was found between the results of the methylene blue test and the presence of coliforms.Results from this survey highlight the need for reappraisal of the methylene blue test as a statutory method for the examination of milk. A total viable count and coliform test are suggested for providing information regarding dairy hygiene and the quality of the product at the point of retail sale.

Moxibustion has been used to treat various types of disease. However, there is still insufficient evidence regarding its effectiveness. This study was performed to summarize and evaluate the effectiveness of moxibustion. A search was performed for all randomized controlled trials in PubMed between January 1998 and July 2008 with no language restriction. The results yielded 47 trials in which six moxibustion types were applied to 36 diseases ranging from breech presentation to digestive disorders. Moxibustion was compared to three types of control group: general care, Oriental medical therapies or waiting list. Moxibustion was superior to the control in 14 out of 54 control groups in 46 studies. There were no significant differences among groups in 7 studies, and the outcome direction was not determined in 33 studies. Seven studies were included in a meta-analysis. Moxibustion was more effective than medication in two ulcerative colitis studies (relative risk (95% CI), 2.20 (1.37, 3.52),P= .001,I2= 0%). Overall, our results did not support the effectiveness of moxibustion in specific diseases due to the limited number and low quality of the studies and inadequate use of controls. In order to provide appropriate evidence regarding the effectiveness of moxibustion, more rigorous clinical trials using appropriate controls are warranted.

The present study was undertaken with the aim of investigating the physical parameters (e.g. organoleptic and specific gravity of raw milk) and also to study the microbiological quality of raw milk (total viable count, Coliform count and Staphylococcal count) from different villages and Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) Dairy Farm of Mymensingh District of Bangladesh, during the period from July to November 2007. A total number of 100 raw milk samples were collected at morning and evening from BAU dairy farm and surrounding four villages of BAU campus. The organoleptic and bacteriological qualities of each sample were analyzed. The organoleptic examination included taste panel score to assess consumer's acceptance and the bacteriological analysis comprised enumeration of total viable count (TVC), total colifrom count (TCC) and total staphylococcal count (TSC) for the determination of sanitary quality. The organoleptic quality of the milk samples is more or less same except the Churkhai milk samples which had flat taste (in 16% milk sample). The average values of TVC/ml were log 5.920, 5.934, 6.007, 6.075 and 6.127 for BAU Dairy Farm, Boira, Shutiakhali, Churkahai and Paglabazar respectively; coliform count were log 2.501, 2.522, 2.550, 2.620 and 2.619 respectively; staphylococcal count were log 2.832, 2.812, 2.866, 2.931 and 2.988 respectively. So, it may be concluded that the raw milk samples of BAU Dairy Farm were superior to others collected from the selected villages which may be due to maintaining better hygienic condition. Objective: To compare two breathing exercises (Buteyko and pranayama) with a control group in patients with asthma. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Subjects: One hundred and twenty subjects were randomized to three groups through block randomization. Subjects with an Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire score <5.5 participated in the study. Setting: Outpatient pulmonary medicine department. Interventions: Subjects in the Buteyko and pranayama groups were trained for 3–5 days and instructed to practise the exercises for 15 minutes twice daily, and for three months duration. The control group underwent routine pharmacological management during the study period. Outcome measures: Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire, Asthma Control Questionnaire and pulmonary function test. Results: The baseline characteristics were similar in all three groups. Post intervention, the Buteyko group showed better trends of improvement (mean (95% confidence interval), P-value) in total Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire score than the pranayama (0.47 (–0.008–0.95), P = 0.056) and control groups (0.97 (0.48–1.46), P = 0.0001). In comparison between the pranayama and control groups, pranayama showed significant improvement (0.50 (0.01–0.98), P = 0.042) in total Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire score. Conclusion: The Buteyko group showed better trends of improvement in quality of life and asthma control than the group performing the pranayama breathing exercise.

CONTEXT: Fibromyalgia is a syndrome characterized by chronic, diffuse musculoskeletal pain, and by a low pain threshold at specific anatomical points. The syndrome is associated with other symptoms such as fatigue, sleep disturbance, morning stiffness and anxiety. Because of its chronic nature, it often has a negative impact on patients' quality of life. OBJECTIVE: To assess the quality of life and anxiety level of patients with fibromyalgia. TYPE Of STUDY: Cross-sectional. SETTING: Rheumatology outpatient service of Hospital das Clínicas (Medical School, Universidade de São Paulo). METHODS: This study evaluated 80 individuals, divided between test and control groups. The test group included 40 women with a confirmed diagnosis of fibromyalgia. The control group was composed of 40 healthy women. Three questionnaires were used: two to assess quality of life (FIQ and SF-36) and one to assess anxiety (STAI). They were applied to the individuals in both groups in a single face-to-face interview. The statistical analysis used Student's t test and Pearson's correlation test (r), with a significance level of 95%. Also, the Pearson chi-squared statistics test for homogeneity, with Yates correction, was used for comparing schooling between test and control groups. RESULTS: There was a statistically significant difference between the groups (p = 0.000), thus indicating that fibromyalgia patients have a worse quality of life and higher levels of anxiety. The correlations between the three questionnaires were high (r = 0.9). DISCUSSION: This study has confirmed the efficacy of FIQ for evaluating the impact of fibromyalgia on the quality of life. SF-36 is less specific than FIQ, although statistically significant values were obtained when analyzed separately, STAI showed lower efficacy for discriminating the test group from the control group. The test group showed worse quality of life than did the control group, which was demonstrated by both FIQ and SF-36. Even though STAI was a less efficient instrument, it presented significant results, showing that fibromyalgia patients presented higher levels of anxiety, both on the state and trait scales. Thus, patients with fibromyalgia had higher levels of tension, nervousness, preoccupation and apprehension, and higher propensity towards anxiety. CONCLUSION: The three instruments utilized showed efficiency in evaluating fibromyalgia patients. FIQ was found to be the most efficient instrument for discriminating and assessing the impact of fibromyalgia on their quality of life. It can be concluded that such patients have a worse quality of life and higher levels of anxiety.

90 Background: Breast cancer is one the most prevalent cancers among Iranian women. One of the complementary therapies is reflexology. The extant paper has been provided with the objective of determining the effect of reflexology on quality of life of patients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy in the breast disease center. Methods: This study is a randomized clinical trial which has been applied to 60 patients suffering from breast cancer under chemotherapy in breast diseases center, in 2012. The patients were selected randomly in three test, control and placebo groups. In test group, reflexology was implemented for 3 weeks and each session lasted half an hour. In placebo group, only relaxation techniques were implemented for 3 weeks, each session lasted 20-30 minutes. Control group received the routine therapies of breast cancer center. Results: Data were collected by standard questionnaires of EORTIC QLQ-C30.V.3 and EORTIC QLQ-BR23.V.3. The questionnaires were filled before intervention and two weeks after applying study. There was no significant difference in demographic characteristics or quality of life score of three groups, before intervention. Total score of quality of life was higher in interventional group compared to placebo group before and two weeks after intervention (p < 0.001) Results also indicated a significant difference in total score of quality of life between three test, placebo, and control groups after intervention (p < 0.001). A considerable improvement was noticed in the different aspects of quality of life in the test group compared to two other placebo and control groups. Conclusions: Reduction of pain, anxiety, nausea, and other symptoms related to cancer in patients suffering from cancer are assumed as the important cases of nursing cares focus, and precise nursing may diminish these symptoms considerably. Using reflexology in patients suffering from breast cancer may improve the quality of life as an effective method, and can be recommended for use in patients with breast cancer if it is supervised by health system personnel.

The mucous membrane of the respiratory tract is easily the immediate effects of the environment, while contact with air that is inhaled, so pneumonia is common in dogs. For the treatment of dogs, sick with  catarrhal bronchopneumonia there are a number of tools and methods, but they are not always effective. Moreover, many of these methods have long waiting period of action and significant side effects. Thet is why the purpose of our research  work was to find effective and biologically safe treatment of dogs, sick with catarrhal bronchopneumonia and installation pharmacological effectiveness of complex antihomotoxic preparations Traumel (ad us.vet) and Phosphor-Homakkord (ad us.vet). The material for the study were 40 dogs aged 1 to 3 years old, weighing 34 to 43 kg (German and East-European sheep-dog), sick with acute catarrhal bronchopneumonia. Each animal was subjected to clinical and hematology research. Sick animals were divided in to four groups: ten animals to each group. First and second – control groups, third and fourth – experimental groups. In the first group we used mukaltyn 0.5 g orally twice a day up to recovery, bitsillin 3 50 th. UA / kg once every three days by intramuscular injection, dissolving in 2 ml of isotonic sodium chloride and vitamin B12 1 ml once a day subcutaneously for 10 days. In the second control group instead of bitsillin-3 was used antibiotic combi-kell 1 ml per 10 kg weight of body subcutaneously once every three days up to recover.In the third and fourth groups we used the lymphotropic complex antihomotoxic therapy with using the homeopathic preparations Traumel and Phosphor-Homakkord in conjunction with traditional means. Thus, in the third group was used inside mukaltyn 0.5 g twice a day up to recovery, bitsillin 3 50 th.UA / kg once every three days vnutrishom'yazovo dissolving in 2 ml of isotonic sodium chloride lidasa intradermally 32 IU with 1 ml of 0.5% solution of novocaine 3 days in a row, then 3 times a week, Traumel regional lymphotropic three consecutive days to 1 ml intradermally, then every three days and Phosphor- Homakkord lymphotropic regionally 1 ml 1 every 3 days to recovery . In the fourth experimental group used the same treatment, but instead of bitsillin-3 was used Combi-Kell 1 ml / 10 kg subcutaneously once every three days to recover.The results of our researches show that using of complex anthyhomotoxic therapy is appropriate and therapeutically effective versus conventional therapy.So despite the fact that there are a wide number of preparations and methods for treatment of dogs, sick with catarrhal bronchopneumonia, they are not always effective. As shown by our researches, using of compex anthyhomotoxic lymphotropic with the preparations Traumel and Phosphor-Homakkord reduces the duration and improve the quality of treatment.

The study was undertaken to evaluate the quality of Dahi available in Sylhet Metropolitan City. Dahi samples from five different Sweetmeat Shops namely Fulkoli, Banaful, Mohanlal, Modhuban and Shad were collected and analyzed. Significant difference in chemical (protein, fat, total solids, ash, acidity and pH) and microbiological status was found among different Dahi samples. Of the five Dahi Brands examined, Fulkoli Brand Dhai had the highest protein content (4.58 ± 0.24) and Shad Brand Dahi had the lowest protein content (4.01 ± 0.17). Fat content was highest in Fulkoli Brand (4.02 ± 0.13) and lowest in Shad Brand (2.10 ± 0.21). The highest total solids content was found in Dahi of Shad Brand (38.00 ± 2.23) and lowest total solids content was found in Banaful Brand Dahi (32.02 ±1.50). Highest Total Viable Count (log cfu/ml.) was recorded in the Dahi of Shad Brand (5.92±0.09) and lowest Total Viable Count was recorded in Mohanlal Brand Dahi (5.84±0.06). Coliform bacteria, Yeast and Mould were present in all the samples. From this experiment, it was found that Fulkoli Brand Dahi was the best in quality . Dahi of Banaful and Mohanlal were in 2nd and 3rd position in quality. Artificial insemination has proven to be an effective method for increasing population size and genetic quality of Kacang goats. However, innovation is required to maintain the quality of Kacang goat semen in storage. This study aimed to examine the effects of supplementing the 150 kDa protein assumed as IGF-I complex derived from bull seminal plasma in skim milk-egg yolk extender on the quality of Kacang goat sperm stored at 5°C. Twelve ejaculates collected from three Kacang goats were divided into three groups. In the control group (T0), the ejaculates were extended with skim milk-egg yolk only. In the treatment groups (T1 and T2), the ejaculates were extended with skim milk-egg yolk supplemented with the IGF-I complex protein at 12 μg and 24 μg/100 mL, respectively. The extended semen was stored at 5°C, and the viability, motility, intactness of the plasma membrane, malondialdehyde concentration, and apoptotic sperm percentage were evaluated daily for five days. The results showed that the T1 was the most effective treatment for maintaining Kacang goat semen at a quality acceptable for artificial insemination over five days of storage at 5°C. However, the T0 and T2 groups retained acceptable qualities for only three days at 5°C. It could be concluded that supplementation of 12 μg of the 150 kDa protein derived from bull seminal plasma per 100 mL extender successfully extended the life span of Kacang goat sperm for five days.
