An epidemiological study was conducted to investigate the epidemiology of humpsore (stephanofilariasis) infection on cattle of different age and sex by collecting information from samples conveniently from different areas of Mymensingh district in Bangladesh. Clinical history and direct examination is done to detect the infection. Out of 503 samples total 43.14% cattle were found stephanofilariasis positive. The prevalence of stephanofilariasis was higher (27.24%) in cattle between 5-10 years old cattle than of less than 5 years (10.93%) and more than 10 years (4.97%) old cattle. Females have shown more positive (36.98%) result than male (male entire= 3.18%, male castrated= 2.98%) that was 6.16% (Odds ratio= 1; P value= 0.987, ?2= 0.003). Local breed shown 36.98% positive to stephanofilariasis followed in descending order by 2.98% in Red Sindhi, 0.99% in Sahiwal, 0.80% in Jersey cross, 0.40% in Holstein cross, Haryana and Red Chittagong breeds and 0.20% in Pabna breed. From the study it is shown that highest (14.1%) prevalence found in the location of neck region of local breed (12.72%) in female cattle (12.52%) and in the age group of 5-10years (9.74%) than other category on the basis of location of lesions.

Abstract Aim- 1. The aim of this study was to investigate the average maximum range of inter-incisal mouth opening in a representative sample of the adult subjects of Haryana. 2. To see any correlation between maximal inter-incisal opening with age. Methods- Maximum mouth opening was studied in 756 adult subjects with age range of 20-50 years in Yamunanagar, Haryana. Age limit was further divided into three groups (20-30, 31-40, 41-50). Those with clinical history of TMJ involvement, OSMF, any trauma, odontogenic and non-odontogenic infections, dental prosthesis on the anterior teeth, congenital anomalies in the maxillofacial region were excluded from this study. The measurements were recorded twice and mean of the two values were taken. Statistical Analysis- Independent sample t-test was calculated to compare age and mouth opening in both male and females respectively. Bivariate pearson correlation was used to see any relationship between age and mouth opening. P-value ≤ 0.05 and CI (confidence interval) at 95% were considered statistically significant. The Results- The average mouth opening of males (45.36±6.70 mm) subjects was higher as compared to female (41.27 ± 6.75 mm) with significant, p-value 0.000. The mean mouth opening ± SD for both sexes combined was 43.39 ± 7.02 mm. The corresponding values for mean inter-incisal opening in male population aged 20-30, 31-40, 41-50 were 45.52 ± 7.15, 46.16 ± 5.47, 42.96 ± 6.82 mm and in female population aged 20-30, 31-40, 41-50 were 41.40 ± 7.08, 41.60 ± 6.29 and 40.03 ± 6.38 mm respectively. Conclusion- Maximal mouth opening differ significantly with gender. There is a decrease in MMO with older age group.

Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is defined as the presence of microbial pathogens in the urinary tract and women of the reproductive age group (15-44 years) are the most vulnerable population. UTIs are one of the most common bacterial infections seen in primary care. This study aims to estimate the prevalence rate of UTI among females of reproductive age group and to determine the association between socio demographic factors and prevalence of UTI.Methods: This is a cross sectional descriptive study carried out in the rural field practice area attached to a Medical college in Kancheepuram district. The study group were 250 women of reproductive age group (15-44 years). The data was collected using a structured interview schedule followed by collection of urine for microscopic examination and culture. Data was analysed using SPSS 15 software. Prevalence of UTI was calculated using percentages and strength of association was tested between socio-demographic characteristics and prevalence of UTI.Results: Prevalence of UTI among females of reproductive age group was found to be 20.4%. There was a strong statistical significant association between levels of education of the study subjects (Odds Ratio 18.11, p value <0.05), the socio economic status (Odds ratio 6.36, p value <0.05) and UTI.Conclusions: UTI is a serious public health problem if untreated. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment will prevent the chances of developing further complication of UTI and will help to reduce the sufferings of the patient, hospital stay and economic loss.

Abstract Immunization is an effective and proven tool for controlling and eliminating life-threatening vaccine preventable infectious diseases. In Ethiopia 5% of childhood mortalities are due to measles. Despite the availability of a safe and effective vaccine, measles outbreaks secondary to non-vaccination are occurring in southern Ethiopia especially in Yirgachefe district. This study was done to assess the risk factors associated with non-vaccination against measles. A Community-based unmatched case control study was conducted in Yirgachefe district from December 1-31, 2016.Cases were children in the age group of 12- 23 months of age who did not take measles vaccination and controls were children in the same age group who took at least one dose of measles vaccine. The study was done in 6 randomly selected kebeles and cases and controls were selected randomly by probability proportional to size sampling. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection. Statistical significance was interpreted using Odds ratio with 95% confidence interval and P value <0.05.A total of 320 individuals (107 cases and 214 controls) were approached for interview with a response rate of 93.75%. Of the cases, 57% were males and more than half fall in the 12-18 months age group. Knowledge regarding measles vaccination was also asked and among cases 72% heard about measles, 26% knew that all children should be vaccinated, 31% had awareness about the right age of vaccination, 60% agrees that measles is vaccine preventable and 65% knew that it is contagious. In multivariable logistic regression, Lack of Ante Natal Care follow up(ANC) (Adjusted Odds Ratio (AOR) =3.57; 95% Confidence Interval (CI): 1.22-10.44), lack of knowledge on the importance of vaccination, who should be vaccinated and if measles is contagious with an AOR and CI of (AOR=6.81; 95% CI: 1.56-29.64), (AOR=4.29; 95% CI: 1.83-10.04) and (AOR=8.97; 95%CI: 3.15-25.58) respectively were independent risk factors.Education and awareness about measles and its immunization should be given to the community. Additionally, ANC follow up should also be strengthened.

ABSTRACTAimTo identify laboratory biomarkers that predict disease severity and outcome among COVID-19 patients admitted to the Millennium COVID-19 Care Center in Ethiopia.MethodsA retrospective cohort study was conducted among 429 RT-PCR confirmed COVID- 19 patients who were on follow up from July to October 2020 and with complete clinical and laboratory data. Data was described using frequency tables. Robust Poisson regression model was used to identify predictors of COVID-19 disease severity where adjusted relative risk (RR), P-value and 95% CI for RR were used to test significance and interpretation of results. Binary Logistic regression model was used to assess the presence of statistically significant association between the explanatory variables and COVID-19 disease outcome where adjusted odds ratio, P- value and 95% CI for adjusted odds ratio were used for testing significance and interpretation of resultsResultsAmong the 429 patients studied, 182 (42.4%) had Severe disease at admission and the rest 247 (57.6%) had Non-severe disease (15.6% mild and 42.0% moderate). Regarding disease outcome, 45 (10.5%) died and 384 (89.5%) were discharged alive. Age group (ARR= 1.779, 95% CI= 1.405- 2.252, p-value < 0.0001), Neutrophil to Lymphocyte ratio (NLR) (ARR= 4.769, 95% CI= 2.419 - 9.402 p-value <0.0001), Serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) (ARR= 1.358, 95% CI= 1.109- 1.662 p-value=0.003), Sodium (ARR= 1.321, 95% CI= 1.091- 1.600 p-value=0.004) and Potassium (ARR= 1.269, 95% CI= 1.059-1.521 p-value=0.010) were found to be significant predictors of COVID-19 disease severity.The following factors were significantly associated with COVID-19 disease outcome; age group (AOR= 2.767, 95% CI= 1.099 - 6.067, p-value=0.031), white blood cell count (AOR= 4.253, 95% CI= 1.918 - 9.429, p-value=0.0001) and sodium level (AOR= 3.435, 95% CI= 1.439, 8.198, p-value=0.005).ConclusionsThe laboratory markers of NLR of above three, raised SGOT and deranged sodium and potassium levels (both hypo- and hyper-states) were found to be significant predictors of developing severe COVID-19 disease. In addition, deranged values of white blood cell count and sodium levels were significantly associated with worse outcome of the disease. Therefore, assessing and monitoring these laboratory markers at the earliest stage of the disease could have a considerable impact in halting disease progression and death.

Background: Nasal and sinonasal lesions comprise common as well as rarest rare lesions. This region being a site of histopathologically diverse lesions, interests pathologists. Objectives: The study aimed to find out incidence of nasal and sinonasal lesion with frequency of non-neoplastic, neoplastic  lesions,  to study spectrum of lesions histopathologically along with correlation of clinical and radiology findings. Material and methods: It was a 2 year retrospective observational study involving 102 cases from January 2012 to December 2013 carried out at Government medical college, Nagpur. Study included all specimens received as nasal and sinonasal lesions. Complete clinical history and radiological findings were correlated with histopathology findings.  Results: Nasal and sinonasal lesions are rare having 1.07 % incidence rate. Majority of patients of nonneoplastic and benign neoplastic category belonged to 11-20 age group while malignancies were common in 41-50 age group. We encountered more neoplastic lesions (53.92%) compared to nonneoplastic lesion (46.08%).  Male to female ratio was 1.5:1. Sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy of clinical diagnosis was 94.73%, 97.67 % and 96 % respectively while positive predictive value and negative predictive value was 98.18 % and 93.33 %. p value was 0.317. Discordance in clinic-histopathological diagnosis was in 5.88 % Conclusion: Though there was good correlation between clinicoradiology findings and histopathology, however in 5.88% discordant cases histopathology diagnosis led to significant alteration of treatment plan proving key role of histopathology diagnosis. Latar Belakang:Komplikasi kehamilan adalah kegawat daruratan obstetrik yang dapat menyebabkan kematian pada ibu dan bayi. Penyebab komplikasi kehamilan diantaranya kurangnya pengetahuan ibu tentang deteksi dini kehamilannya, usia pasien < 20 tahun dan > 35 tahun serta anak lebih dari 3.Tujuan :Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan pengetahuan, usia dan paritas dengan kejadian komplikasi kehamilan pada ibu hamil trimester III.Metode Penelitian:Jenis penelitian observasional analitik dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling, sehingga sampel adalah ibu hamil trimester III yang berkunjung di Rumah Sakit Ibu dan Anak Aisyiyah Samarinda berjumlah 84 orang. Analisis yang digunakan uji chi square.Hasil : Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat responden yang memiliki pengetahuan kurang baik, terdapat usia berisiko antara < 20 tahun dan > 35 tahun, terdapat paritas berisiko > 3 orang anak dan komplikasi kehamilan berupa hipertensi, anemia, preeklempsia dan plasenta previa. Ada hubungan pengetahuan dengan kejadian komplikasi kehamilan (p value : 0,001 < α : 0,05 dan odds ratio : 6,800 > 1). Ada hubungan usia dengan kejadian komplikasi kehamilan (p value : 0,003 < α : 0,05 dan odds ratio : 5,837 > 1). Ada hubungan paritas dengan kejadian komplikasi kehamilan (p value : 0,002 < α : 0,05 dan odds ratio : 6,250 > 1).Kesimpulan: Terdapat pengetahuan kurang baik berjumlah 27 responden (32,1%), usia berisiko (< 20 tahun dan ≥ 35 tahun) berjumlah 25 responden (29,8%), paritas berisiko (1 atau ≥ 3 orang anak) berjumlah 21 responden (25%) dan ada komplikasi kehamilan berjumlah 18 responden (21,4%), Ada hubungan pengetahuan, usia dan paritas dengan kejadian komplikasi kehamilan pada ibu hamil trimester III di Rumah Sakit Ibu dan Anak Aisyiyah Samarinda.

Background: The relationship between gestational diabetes and postpartum depression (PPD) is poorly understood and seldom studied. Objective: In an effort to explore this issue, the present study investigated the relationship between gestational diabetes and PPD. Methods: The present cross-sectional study was performed with 342 women who were referred to four urban health centers of Hamadan city, west of Iran. We used convenience sampling as a method to recruit women in each health center. We used a researcher-made checklist for gathering data on socio-demographic characteristics and potential risk factors of PPD. The Persian validated version of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) was used to assess PPD. Univariate and multivariable binary logistic regression was applied to estimate the odds ratio (OR) (95% confidence interval [CI]). Results: Gestational diabetes was identified as the most important risk factor for PPD with OR (95% CI) of 2.19 (1.11, 4.31); P-value=0.02 after adjusting for other variables. Moreover, the adjusted odds ratio showed that PPD among lesseducated women (primary school) was 3.5 times higher compared to women with a university education (OR=3.54, 95% CI: 1.27, 9.84; P-value=0.01). Conclusion: Our findings suggested that PPD is more likely among women with gestational diabetes and those who were less educated. Interventional and educational activities for reducing the risk of PPD can be targeted for use with this population.

Abstract Background Malaria remains a major public health problem in Indonesian Papua, with children under five years of age being the most affected group. Haematological changes, such as cytopenia that occur during malaria infection have been suggested as potential predictors and can aid in the diagnosis of malaria. This study aimed to assess the haematological alterations associated with malaria infection in children presenting with signs and symptoms of malaria. Methods A retrospective study was performed by collecting data from the medical records of malaria patients at Sorong Regional General Hospital, Sorong, West Papua, Indonesia, both from outpatient and inpatient clinics, from January 2014 until December 2017. The laboratory profile of children suffering from malaria was evaluated. Results One hundred and eighty-two children aged 1 month to 18 years old were enrolled. The subjects were mostly male (112, 61.5%) with a mean age of 6.45 years (SD = 4.3 years). Children below 5 years of age suffered the most from malaria in this study (77, 42.3%). One hundred two subjects (56%) were infected with Plasmodium falciparum. Half of the enrolled subjects (50%) had haemoglobin level (Hb) between 5.1 and 10 gr/dL. A total of 41 children (53.2%) less than 5 years old suffered from P. falciparum infection. In the age group of 5–10 years, there were 34 children (57.6%) who suffered from P. falciparum, and in the age group > 10 years, 27 children (58.7%) suffered from P. falciparum infection. Only 4 subjects (5.2%) in the less than 5 years old age group had mixed malaria infection. Among eight predictors of the haematological profile, there were five predictors that were significantly associated with the diagnostic criteria, namely haemoglobin, haematocrit, leukocytes, platelets and monocytes (p < 0.05). Generally, clinical symptoms are not significantly associated with a malaria diagnosis, and only one variable showed a significant relationship, pale, with a P value of 0.001. Conclusions Children with malaria had changes in some haematological markers, with anaemia, low platelet count, white blood count, and lymphocyte count being the most important predictors of malaria infection in the study area. These markers could be used to raise suspicion of malaria in children living in high endemic areas, such as West Papua.

Abstract Background We have demonstrated that artificial intelligence interpretation of ECGs (AI-ECG) can estimate an individual's physiologic age and that the gap between AI-ECG and chronologic age (Age-Gap) is associated with increased mortality. We hypothesized that Age-Gap would predict long-term atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and that Age-Gap would refine the ACC/AHA Pooled Cohort Equations' (PCE) predictive abilities. Methods Using the Rochester Epidemiology Project (REP) we evaluated a community-based cohort of consecutive patients seeking primary care between 1998–2000 and followed through March 2016. Inclusion criteria were age 40–79 and complete data to calculate PCE. We excluded those with known ASCVD, AF, HF or an event within 30 days of baseline.A neural network, trained, validated, and tested in an independent cohort of ∼ 500,000 independent patients, using 10-second digital samples of raw, 12 lead ECGs. PCE was categorized as low&lt;5%, intermediate 5–9.9%, high 10–19.9%, and very high≥20%. The primary endpoint was ASCVD and included fatal and non-fatal myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke; the secondary endpoint also included coronary revascularization [Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) or Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG)], TIA and Cardiovascular mortality. Events were validated in duplicate. Follow-up was truncated at 10 years for PCE analysis. The association between Age-Gap with ASCVD and expanded ASCVD was assessed with cox proportional hazard models that adjusted for chronological age, sex and risk factors. Models were stratified by PCE risk categories to evaluate the effect of PCE predicted risk. Results We included 24,793 patients (54% women, 95% Caucasian) with mean follow up of 12.6±5.1 years. 2,366 (9.5%) developed ASCVD events and 3,401 (13.7%) the expanded ASCVD. Mean chronologic age was 53.6±11.6 years and the AI-ECG age was 54.5±10.9 years, R2=0.7865, p&lt;0.0001. The mean Age-Gap was 0.87±7.38 years. After adjusting for age and sex, those considered older by ECG, compared to their chronologic age had a higher risk for ASCVD when compared to those with &lt;−2 SD age gap (considered younger by ECG). (Figure 1A), with similar results when using the expanded definition of ASCVD (data not shown). Furthermore, Age-Gap enhanced predicted capabilities of the PCE among those with low 10-year predicted risk (&lt;5%): Age and sex adjusted HR 4.73, 95% CI 1.42–15.74, p-value=0.01 and among those with high predicted risk (&gt;20%) age and sex adjusted HR 6.90, 95% CI 1.98–24.08, p-value=0.0006, when comparing those older to younger by ECG respectively (Figure 1B). Conclusion The difference between physiologic AI-ECG age and chronologic age is associated with long-term ASCVD, and enhances current risk calculators (PCE) ability to identify high and low risk individuals.
