Teacher-student relationships are vital for academic and social development of students, for teachers’ professional and personal development, and for having a supportive learning environment. In the digital age, these relationships can extend beyond bricks and mortar and beyond school hours. Specifically, these relationships are extended today while teachers and students communicate via social networking sites (SNS). This paper characterizes differences between teachers (N=160) and students (N=587) who are willing to connect with their students/teachers via Facebook and those who do not wish to connect. The quantitative research reported here within is based on data collection of personal characteristics, attitudes towards Facebook, and perceptions of teacher-student relationship. Findings suggest differences in characteristics of the two groups (willing to connect vs. not willing to connect) within both populations (teachers and students). Also, in both populations, those who were willing to connect, compared to those who were not willing to connect, present more positive attitudes towards using Facebook for teaching/learning and are more opposed to a banning policy of student-teacher SNS-based communication. We also found that students who were willing to connect showed a greater degree of closeness with their teachers compared to those who were not willing to connect. This study may assist policymakers when setting up regulations regarding teacher-student communication via social networking sites.

There are two main purposes navigated in this study; first of all, it was carried out to investigate the teacher-student relationship; secondly, it was also conducted to find out whether there was a correlation between teacher-student relationship and English teaching-learning process. A number of 14 teachers and 43 students participated in this study; they are from two publish junior high schools in Aceh, Indonesia. Questionnaires for the students and interviews with the teachers were used to discover the influence of the relationship between English teachers and students, and the problems that students faced during their interactions with the teachers. There were twenty-two items in the questionnaire and five questions in the interviews that the participants needed to answer. The collected data from the questionnaire were then analysed by using a Likert scale and the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, meanwhile, the data from the interviews were analysed by following the stages of Miles and Huberman‘s(1994) model. In the first junior high school, a significant correlation appeared between the teacher-student relationship and teaching-learning process, with the raw score of 0.745 that refers to a high correlation. The tcount was higher than the ttable (4.784≥2.100). However, at second junior high school, had no significant correlation detected between the two variables with the raw score of 0,401 that referred to moderate correlation, where tcount was lower than ttable (2.004≤2.097). This research is expected to have a beneficial impact on the English teaching-learning process especially in the areas of the two schools, where this study took place, as well as the teachers and educators from other institutions spread in Aceh and Indonesia in general.

Although the teacher-student relationship has been addressed in some studies, the cooperation or reciprocal relations between teachers and students have not been explored sufficiently. In this paper, a difference equation model is applied to express the relationship, stability analysis at the positive steady state of the discrete model is done to verify that the performance output is not empty, and hypothesis testing is conducted to show the validity of the model by means of sample data from a college. Then some reasonable suggestions are proposed to improve the performance output of teachers and students.

The aim of this study is to examine whether gender and status moderate the teacher–student relationship (TSR) and the perception of dehumanization in teachers and students. A total of 528 participants from a university in Laguna (74% students and 26% professors) completed a questionnaire based on the TSR scale, organizational dehumanization, and demographic variables. PROCESS, a mediation and moderation package, was used to analyze data. The results indicated that ingroup–outgroup relationship significantly influences the perception of organizational dehumanization (p < 0.001). In addition, gender (p < 0.001) and status (p < 0.001) have moderating roles. Specifically, female students are at most risk of perceiving themselves dehumanized, and males with high status (teachers) are less vulnerable to dehumanization. These findings are highly significant for the advancement of knowledge of the intergroup relationship and organizational dehumanization and have practical implications for teachers and students.

Shifting from an emphasis on teaching to learning is a complex task for both teachers and students. This paper reports on a qualitative study of teachers in a nurse specialist education programme meeting this shift in a distance education course. The study aimed to gain a better understanding of the teacher-student relationship by addressing research questions in relation to the students’ role, the learning process, and the assessment process. A didactical design comprising three phases focusing on distinct learning outcomes for the course was adopted. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with teachers and were analysed using inductive thematic analysis. The results indicate a shift towards a problematising and holistic approach to teaching, learning, and assessment. This shift highlighted a teacher-student relationship with a shared responsibility in the orchestration of the learning experience. The overall picture outlines a distance education experience of process-based assessment characterised by the imposition of teachers’ rules and a lack of creativity due to the limited role of ICT merely as a container of content.

The COVID-19 pandemic dramatically reduced direct interactions between teachers and students during learning hours. As a consequence, teachers struggle to gauge the student’s ability and cannot fully understand the learning situation at home for each student, especially adolescents. This was experienced by PKBM X who since the pandemic has had profound trouble to reach out to their students. PKBM X is a non-formal high school that upholds the values of equality and democracy, and teachers bear a role to understand the condition of each student and try to help whenever necessary. However, according to interviews, some teachers are unsure about how to establish a relationship with students, especially in this time of pandemic. There are also teachers who are too involved emotionally with the student’s problems, to a point where they feel emotionally burdened. Utilizing the problem tree analysis, it is concluded that the relationship between teachers and students isn’t optimal. To that end, a training was designed to inform participants about positive teacher -student relationship, especially during pandemic. With this knowledge, teachers realized the importance of positive teacher -student relationships and how to initiate positive interactions in times of pandemic. Not only that, teachers are also taught to manage their expectations about the teacher -student relationship, so that teachers continue to provide support without being personally affected if the student is not easily approached. After the training, teacher’s knowledge about the positive teacher-student increased, and teachers were able to develop action plans for their students.

Quality classroom management contributes to creating learning environment that allows the realization of various teacher roles. One way to support this is by building good teacher-student relationship. This study aims at describing the relationship between teachers and students at a kindergarten school in Malang and discusses its aspects in relation to classroom management principles. After conducting qualitative research using one-week classroom observation and literature study, this study found that almost all aspects of teacher-student relationship were identified, namely conducting informal conversations with students, paying attention to students’ activities, using physical gestures and movements, implementing positive interaction strategies, providing affirmative reactions to incorrect responses, and exhibiting an assertive connection. The other aspect that was missed was acknowledging students’ different characteristics
