Background: The average stage of attrition in permanent first and second molars is an established method of age estimation in the adult population. The study was conducted with an objective of age estimation from the average stage of attrition of permanent molars.Methods: A total of 451 individuals of age more than 20 years were examined. Nepalese individuals with intact first and second permanent molars in the maxillary and mandibular arch on either side were included. The average stage of attrition of the maxillary first and second permanent molars on either side was calculated and subjected to regression analysis to derive equations.Results: Among a total of 451 participants, 231 (51.22%) were females and 220 (48.78%) males, with a mean age of 44.3 ± 13.9 years. There was a strong correlation between age and average stage of attrition of molars. The correlation was stronger for upper molars compared to the lowers. Additionally, the mean of the difference between real age and estimated age was lower for maxillary compared to mandibular molars. Compared to age estimation by univariable regression, multivariable regression had greater accuracy. Similarly, estimation of age from maxillary molars was more accurate as compared to mandibular (difference in years: 3.82 ± 3.03 for maxillary molars and 5.17 ± 4.2 for mandibular molars).Conclusions: Maxillary teeth are better for age estimation and using both maxillary first and second permanent molars gives better accuracy.Keywords: Age estimation by teeth; age reporting; forensic anthropology; forensic dentistry; tooth attrition

Abstract This study determined the oxygen saturation (SaO2) in dental pulp of healthy maxillary and mandibular molars. Mean of SaO2 was evaluated in 112 maxillary and mandibular molars using pulse oximetry. Quantitative variables were described by mean and standard deviation. Variables with symmetric distribution were compared by Student t test and Mann-Whitney test. Pearson’s correlation coefficient was used to correlate quantitative variables. Analysis of variance was used to assess differences in SaO2 levels between the molar groups, followed by post-hoc Tukey. The significance level established at p<0.05. Mean of oxygen saturation for the 112 molar dental pulps was 85.09%. There was no significant correlation (r=-0.007; p=0.977) between the mean of SaO2 of molar pulps with patient´s indicator finger (92.89%). There was a significant difference (p=0.037) between the mean of SaO2 of the first (85.76%) and second maxillary molars (81.87%), and it was not significant (p=0.1775) between the first and second mandibular molars. Maxillary molars had lower pulpal SaO2 (83.59%) than mandibular molars (86.89%) (p=0.018). The mean of the patient’s response time to the cold stimulus was 1.12 s (maxillary molars 1.25 s and mandibular molars 0.99 s)(p=0.052). There was no significant correlation between the time response of the patient to the cold stimulus and the SaO2 for molars. The mean oxygen saturation level was 85.09%. The mandibular molars presented higher SaO2 level than maxillary molars.

The number of samples obtained was 34 samples divided into two groups, Group I were patients with 15-24 years of age or younger, group II is patients aged 25-34 years or older. The data obtained areonset and duration of the age group 15-24 years compared with onset and duration of Lidocaine in the age group 25-34 years. The data obtained were analyzed by t-test with signicance level (p <0.05). The results of this study indicate that there are no signi cant differences between the onsetLidocaine in the age group 15-24 years with onset on the Lidocaine group 25-34 years. There is also a non-signi cant difference between Lidocaineduration in the group aged 15 - 24 years with a duration of Lidocaine on the group 25-34 years at p <0.05. The mean - median onsetLidocaine in the age group 15-24 years was 60.3 seconds with a range between 22-95 seconds while the onset on the Lidocaine group 25-34 years was 55.5 seconds with a range between 14-111 seconds. The mean - average durationLidocaine in the age group 15-24 years was 162.59 minutes with a range between 120-195 minutes while the duration of Lidocaine on the group 25-34 years was 184.41 with a range between 120-330 minutes.

Aims. The aim of the study was to evaluate the morphological characteristics of furcation of permanent molars in Tunisian population. Materials and Methods. One hundred and four extracted maxillary and mandibular permanent molars were included in this study; comprising 34 maxillary first molars, 18 maxillary second molars, 33 mandibular first molars, and 19 mandibular second molars. For each tooth, the vertical dimension of the root trunk, root length, and interradicular space width were assessed with a micrometer caliber. Different types of root trunk in maxillary and mandibular molars were also analyzed. Statistical analysis was performed using a t-test. Results. Root length decreased from the first to the second molars. This decrease seems to be pronounced at mandibular molars. The most observed root trunk type was type B, with a prevalence of 67.30% in maxillary molars and 51.92% in mandibular molars. The root trunk length increased from the first to the second molars in both maxillary and mandibular. The average width of the interradicular spaces varied on the same tooth and between the teeth. Conclusion. This study provides epidemiological data about molars root length, interradicular space, and root trunk vertical dimension in a Tunisian population that could help clinicians in periodontal and endodontic therapy.

Background: Different parts of the skeletal system have been studied in different studies to determine gender. The pelvis is one of the most important skeletal components for the determination of gender and identification of humans. Objectives: The current study aimed to determine gender using the ischiopubic index and upper pelvic index in the adult population of Iran. Methods: In this study, 140 individuals (70 male and 70 female subjects) referring to Athari Imaging Center in Tehran, Iran, for various medical reasons entered the study by giving written and oral consent using the convenience sampling method. Measurements were performed on digital anteroposterior pelvic radiographs (with standard conditions and radiographic stencil distance from the light source as 100 cm). The obtained data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 22). Results: The mean ischemic index of the whole population was 108.88 ± 13.75. The difference in the ischiopubic index between male and female subjects was significant (P < 0.05). The mean upper pelvic index of the whole study population was 81.70 ± 10.09; however, the difference in the upper pelvic index between the two groups of male and female subjects was not significant (P < 0.05). Conclusions: The pelvic ischemic index in Iranian women is higher than that reported for men. If the ischiopubic index is higher than 103, with 93% sensitivity and 73% specificity, it would be female. According to the study of graphs, if there is a special identity for diagnosis, there will be the possibility to match the graph before the death of the individual with the graph taken from skeletal remains.

Yoga is derived from the word YUJ meaning to bind, attach or union. Yoga is not just a form of exercise but is a tool for overall development in every aspect of life. Several benefits of yoga has been recorded but are the people aware of those is the question of todays time. The aim of the study was to examine various level of perception (awareness, motivation, and obstacles) on yoga among the population of Madhya Pradesh.A online cross sectional survey was conducted across Madhya Pradesh, sample were selected randomly by snowball sampling The total of 408 subjects participated in the study. The data has been collected from June 2021 till July 2021. The study duration was 6 months. A pre-tested questionnaire was used to collect the data. The mean age was 30±11.83. Majority participants were from 18- 30 years of age (68.63%). The females were 251 and the males were 157. It was found that more number of female participants were practicing yoga compared to male in the study and the difference was significant (p<0.05). Most of the participant perceived yoga as a tool to improve health (42.9%) as compared to exercise (10.1%). The motivation came through different medium such self-motivation (43.2%) and social media (13.9%). The main obstacle for the participants was lack of time (42.7%). The percentage of people aware about yoga was more and their perception of yoga is as a tool to improve ones health and to be free from any kind of disease. Even if there are many mediums of motivation if one does not get any inspiration from self then they will not be able to perform yoga, so self-motivation is very necessary. Participant think that yoga is very time consuming.

The angulation of lower third molars is compared in two groups of radiographs of children aged 10·1–13·0 years, one group showing lower second deciduous molars present, the other showing mesial migration of lower first permanent molars and impaction of second premolars following early extraction of lower second deciduous molars. The lower third molar crypts are significantly less tilted in the group where deciduous molars had been removed, the difference between the means of the two groups being 12·5° (p < 0·001). The findings are discussed in relation to the hypothesis that early mesial migration improves the orientation of third molar crypts by enabling them to develop further forward. There is some evidence that the mean angle of tilt may be reduced by about 20° when mesial migration occurs before third molar crypts begin to form.

Background : The angle of inclination of the femur is the angle formed between long axis of neck of femur and long axis of the shaft of femur. The average angle of inclination (neck–shaft angle) is 126°, ranging from 115° to 140° in the adult population. As with the angle of inclination of the humerus, the angle of inclination of the femur varies among individuals and also from side to side. The aim of this study was to determine the Angle of inclination and neck length of Femur.Material & Methods: A total of 50 dry femora (25right and 25 left) of nobel medical college was cross sectionally studied with random sampling without knowing the sex & age of bone. The angle formed between long axis of neck and long axis of the shaft of femur was measured with the help of goniometer. The neck length was measured with the help of sliding calliper.Results: The mean angle of inclination was 128.98±4.55 degrees, on the right side was129.84±5.22 degrees and on the left side was 128.12±3.66degrees. The difference in the mean angle of inclination of right and the left side was found to be statistically insignificant (p value> 0.05). The mean neck length femur was 2.93 ±0.24cm, right femur was 3.06±0.19cm and left femur was 2.80±0.21cm. The difference in the mean neck neck length of the right and the left side was found to be statistically insignificant (p value> 0.05).Conclusion: The Angle of Inclination of Femur and neck length of femur in present study had no remarkable dissimilarity with the results observed in the studies conducted in Nepal and neighbouring countries. In the study there was no statistical significant difference between the neck-shaft angle and neck length of femur of right and left side of the femur but there was positive correlation between angle of inclination and neck length of femur.Journal of Nobel Medical CollegeVolume 6, Number 1, Issue 10 (January-June, 2017), Page: 44-47

Background/Aim. Knowledge of numerous variations in anatomical features of furcation area is a prerequisite for the achievement of more predictable results in the therapy of multi-rooted teeth with furcation involvement (FI). The aim of the study was to evaluate the morphological characteristics of extracted molars of adult population in Belgrade, Serbia. Methods. In total, 468 extracted first and second molars, both mandibular and maxillary, were measured. The values of root trunk lengths and root lengths, diameter of furcation entrances (FE), distance between the roots and depth of root concavity were analysed. Results. The maxillary first molars had significantly higher root trunk lengths values than the second molars. As for the mandibular molars, FE was smaller than 1 mm. The distance between the roots was more than 2 mm at the third level of measurement. Conclusion. The buccal FE of maxillary molars was the lowest. The root concavity of the second mandibular molars was higher from the lingual aspect.

Background: There is no established method for monitoring the anticoagulant effects of apixaban and rivaroxaban. Linear correlation between serum levels and anti-Xa activity has been shown, with r2 ranging from 0.88 to 0.99. However, there are minimal data in patients receiving apixaban 5 mg twice daily or rivaroxaban 20 mg once daily. Objective: To evaluate the anti-Xa activity and serum levels at those doses and compare the trough anti-Xa activity. Methods: This was a single-center prospective study,approved by the institutional review board. Patients on an inappropriate dose or receiving an interacting drug were excluded. Blood samples were drawn 0.5 to 3 hours before a dose for both agents, 2 to 3 hours after an apixaban dose, and 12 to 16 hours after a rivaroxaban dose. Anti-Xa activity and serum levels were determined, and correlation was done via regression analysis. Trough anti-Xa activity was compared using a t-test. Results: The study enrolled 88 patients receiving each drug. The r2 values were 0.79 and 0.87 for apixaban and rivaroxaban, respectively. The mean trough anti-Xa activity was 1.79 ± 0.96 IU/mL for apixaban and 1.25 ± 0.88 IU for rivaroxaban ( P < 0.01). The trough sample was drawn a mean of 1.3 and 1.8 hours prior to the next dose for apixaban and rivaroxaban, respectively ( P < 0.01). Conclusions: Good correlation was shown between anti-Xa activity and serum levels. The clinical utility of monitoring anti-Xa activity and the significance of the difference in trough anti-Xa activity for these agents remains to be established.

Purpose Vocabulary intervention can improve comprehension of texts containing taught words, but it is unclear if all middle school readers get this benefit. This study tests 2 hypotheses about variables that predict response to vocabulary treatment on text comprehension: gains in vocabulary knowledge due to treatment and pretreatment reading comprehension scores. Method Students in Grade 6 ( N = 23) completed a 5-session intervention based on robust vocabulary instruction (RVI). Knowledge of the semantics of taught words was measured pre- and posttreatment. Participants then read 2 matched texts, 1 containing taught words (treated) and 1 not (untreated). Treated texts and taught word lists were counterbalanced across participants. The difference between text comprehension scores in treated and untreated conditions was taken as a measure of the effect of RVI on text comprehension. Results RVI resulted in significant gains in knowledge of taught words ( d RM = 2.26) and text comprehension ( d RM = 0.31). The extent of gains in vocabulary knowledge after vocabulary treatment did not predict the effect of RVI on comprehension of texts. However, untreated reading comprehension scores moderated the effect of the vocabulary treatment on text comprehension: Lower reading comprehension was associated with greater gains in text comprehension. Readers with comprehension scores below the mean experienced large gains in comprehension, but those with average/above average reading comprehension scores did not. Conclusion Vocabulary instruction had a larger effect on text comprehension for readers in Grade 6 who had lower untreated reading comprehension scores. In contrast, the amount that children learned about taught vocabulary did not predict the effect of vocabulary instruction on text comprehension. This has implications for the identification of 6th-grade students who would benefit from classroom instruction or clinical intervention targeting vocabulary knowledge.
