Helleborus sp. are healing plants from the family Ranunculaceae. The aim of this paper is to consider ethnopharmacology and the toxicity of the hellebores which is focused on a detailed research of the value of phytochemicals, as pharmacological attributes of phytomedicine herbs. The data is based on active components. Also, this paper presents the chemical composition of the root in the overall effect of the drug, as well as the importance of the hellebores in pharmacy. It shows a wide range of pharmacological effects such as cardiotonic, immunostimulative, antibacterial, antitumor, diuretic, and emetic. Helleborus odorus Waldst. et Kit. is rich with secondary metabolites such as bufadenolides, flavonoids, phenolic heterozids. With this research it was concluded that these plants have great significance and great application in the formulation of pharmaceutical dosage forms. Abstract Cydonia oblonga M. is a medicinal plant of family Rosaceae which is used to prevent or treat several ailments such as cancer, diabetes, hepatitis, ulcer, respiratory, and urinary infections, etc. Cydonia oblonga commonly known as quince is rich in useful secondary metabolites such as phenolics, steroids, flavonoids, terpenoids, tannins, organic acids, and glycosides. It shows a wide range of pharmacological effects like antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, cardiovascular, antidepressant, hypolipidemic, diuretic, etc. The polysaccharide mucus, glucuronoxylane located in the seeds of the quince, is used in the dermatology, for the production of wound patches. The aim of this paper focuses on detailed research on the value of phytochemicals, as pharmacological and attributes of phytomedicine herbs. The taxonomy of the liverwort genus Porella based on plant morphology has been regarded as difficult. Recent DNA-based studies have brought new insights into the systematics of these liverworts and have uncovered some novel relationships that allowed the resolution of controversial treatments based on morphology. One of the outstanding features of these plants, in addition to their form, is their chemical composition, which is characterized by great diversity of secondary metabolites. In this paper the sesqui- and diterpenoids occurring in Porella species are described and their chemosystematic relevance is explored. On the basis of chemical data, the Porella species have been divided into six chemotypes: the drimane- (I), sacculatane- (II), pinguisane-sacculatane- (III), guaiane-germacrane- (IV), pinguisane- (V) and africane- (VI) types. Species belonging to type I are characterized by their hot taste, whereas the other chemotypes are comprised of non-pungent species. Consideration of recent DNA data shows striking correlations between molecular groups and their terpenoid chemistry. The chemical data suggest that the P. vernicosa complex (chemotype I) deserves recognition as a separate section of Porella and that terpenoids are important chemosystematic markers in the family Porellaceae.

Historically, species of the family Lamiaceae have enjoyed a rich tradition of use for flavouring, food preservation, and medicinal purposes, due to both their curative and their preventive properties. It is well known that each species has a special, complex mixture of bioactive compounds in which each component contributes to its overall bioactivity. Their value lays in the production of a wide range of secondary metabolites with potent antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiviral, and anticancer activities. This review focuses on the Lamiaceae species and their secondary metabolites encompassing a wide array of beneficial functions and their applicability as sources of functional foods. It could help in addressing specific consumer needs as healthy diet is a part of the lifestyle that maintains or improves overall health.

The Willows (genus Salix), with more than 330–500 species and 200 hybrids, are trees, shrubs or prostrate plants that are widely distributed in Africa, North America, Europe, and Asia. The genus is traditionally used in folk medicine and represents a valuable source of biologically active compounds among them salicin, a prodrug for salicylic acid. Altogether, 322 secondary metabolites were characterized in the genus including flavonoids 94) (flavonols, flavones, flavanones, isoflavones, flavan-3-ols (catechins and procyanidins), chalcones, dihydrochalcone, anthocyanins, dihydroflavonols), phenolic glycosides (76), organic acids (28), and non-phenolic glycosides (17), sterols and terpenes (17), simple phenolics 13) and lignans 7) in addition to volatiles and fatty acids (69). Furthermore, willows exert analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer, cytotoxic, antidiabetic, antimicrobial, antiobesity, neuroprotective and hepatoprotective activities. The current review provides an updated summary of the importance of willows, their chemical composition and pharmacological activities.

The genus Delphinium is one of the essential members of the family Ranunculaceae. These species grow wild in North America, Europe, and Asia. They have demonstrated antioxidant, antimicrobial, and cytotoxic activities. Diterpenoid alkaloids are their main constituents and seem to be responsible for medicinal and toxic properties. The primary purpose of this paper is to review the therapeutic benefits of Delphinium species, chemical composition, and its medicinal uses, in addition to the reported toxic effects of these plants influencing different animals and humans.

SummaryPropolis is a natural resinous substance collected by honey bees from buds and exudates of plant species, mixed with bee enzymes, pollen and wax. It has a complex composition with a wide range of effects, including antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, antiflogistic, antioxidant, hepatoprotective, carcinostatic and immunomodulatory properties. It is often applied in the treatment of diseases involving the oral cavity and gums. The aim of this paper is to describe the therapeutic properties of propolis, chemical composition and its application in the oral cavity. Literature and systematic information on the composition and the effects of propolis on health were collected, with particular reference to the use in the treatment of oral cavity diseases. The chemical composition of propolis is very complex. The health impact depends on the biologically active components it contains. A particularly important application is in the treatment of diseases of the oral cavity. Studies show that propolis can help prevent dental caries and control gingivitis and plaque. It reduces halithosis (bad breath) and symptoms of periodontosis. It is also effective in fighting viruses. It can have significant application in orthodontics and restorative dentistry. A wide range of effects allows the multiple uses of propolis-based products. Recent research has been increasingly focused on diseases of the oral cavity. The development of novel propolis-based pharmaceutical forms could significantly reduce the use of antibiotics in conventional treatment of diseases of the oral cavity.

Anethumgraveolens, belong to the family Umbelliferae, is indigenous to southern Europe. It is an annual herb growing in the Mediterranean region, central and southern Asia.Now it is cultivated widely throughout the world. It is used traditionally as a popular aromatic herb and spice that has a very long history of use going back to more than 5,000 years. It was used as a remedy for indigestion and flatulence and as milk secretion stimulant. The essential oil and different extracts of Anethumgraveolensseeds exerted antimicrobial activity against wide range of microorganisms. The essential oils and acetone extracts shown antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Enterococcus faecalis, Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, Yersinia enterocolitica, Salmonella choleraesuis, S. typhimurium, Shigellaflexneri, Salmonella typhii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Mycobacterium. Anethumgraveolens seed extracts exerted moderate activity against Helicobacter pylori.

Bryophyllum pinnatum (Lam.) Oken belongs to the family Crassulaceae, one of the important medicinal plants which has great significances to treat various disorders, ailments in human beings. This study tells phytochemical constituents and pharmacological activities of extracts of Bry.pin(Lam.) Oken. The aim of this review is to emphasise the recent and advanced research on different parts of plant extracts used. The forty secondary metabolites were isolated by different researchers where the most important includes flavonoids, terpenoids, glycosides, steroids and these secondary metabolites were responsible for various biological actions as antioxidant, anticancer, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, analgesics, wound healing and hepatoprotective actions which are incorporated. All this information gathered into this review were collected by using electronic search as PubMed, Research gate, Elsevier, Google scholar and Web science. Further studies also required on extracts for getting more information about mechanism of action, biological effects, safety, dosage required. By observing the medicinal uses and pharmacological profile of Bry.pin(Lam.) Oken might be transferred into a new various herbal formulation and can report for future.
