The objective of the research was to answer the research question which was to analyze grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion of comparative paragraph produced by third semester students of English Department Universitas Riau Kepulauan. The research was conducted in three months starting from observing the sample to making report. This research was held on third semester students of English Department Universitas Riau Kepulauan in academic year 2015/2016. The research method used was qualitative study. The subject of the research was third semester of English Department Universitas Riau Kepulauan. There were several techniques to collect the data that was used in conducting a research, namely observation, questionnaire, interview, and test. In this research, the researcher conducted a writing test to get the data. In analyzing data, they were identified and classified in the appropriate headings on the cohesion analysis sheet. Then, it is classified into sentences for Grammatical and Lexical Cohesion analyzing process and interpreting each student’s writing task.

The purposes of this exploratory mixed method research are to describe the implementation of Jurisprudential Inquiry Learning Model in  developing  the students’ competence in writing analytical exposition texts and the students’ motivation in learning writing. The subject of this study is the fifth semester students of English Department of Tidar University in 2016/2017 academic year. This study  employed in-depth interviews, and on-site observation in collecting the data of the effectiveness of this model in developing the students’ motivation in learning writing. In addition to that, the writer used writing test of analytical exposition text to know the improvement of the students’ writing skill. Following Milles and Hubberman’s theory (1994: 10-11), the writer analyzed the qualitative data through data reduction, data display, conclusion and verification. For the quantitative data, the writer used descriptive statistics. The triangulation was employed in checking the validity of the data. The results show that the implementation of Jurisprudential Inquiry Learning Model is an effective way to develop the students’ motivation in learning writing. Besides, it develops the students’ competence in  writing analytical exposition text.

The third semester of English Education Study Program is supposed to have been able to use preposition correctly. The objectives of this research are to find out what kind of error do the students make in using prepositions based on Surface Strategy taxonomy when they write narrative text; to find out how often the students make error in using preposition when they write narrative text; to find out what are the reasons of the students to make error in using preposition when they write narrative text.This research is a qualitative research. The data analyzed are based on descriptive analysis, namely collecting the data, analyse the students error, classifying the students errors, describing errors based on their type, classifying the result of interview.This research was conducted at Muhammadiyah University of Metro. The subject is third semester of English Department academic year 2015/2016 with 32 students as participant. The data were collected from writing test and interview. The result of research showed that the highest percentages of the errors belong to addition type (48%). The second percentage is misformation type (29%). Then the third is omission type (21%). Next, the last percentage is misordering (2%). It means that the most committed errors made by the students is addition. The studenst really often made error in using preposition when they write narrative text and the students made error in using preposition when they write narrative text is the students were confuse in using prepositions and they did not understand how to differentiate them.

The aim of this research was to develop students’ skill in script writing as it was one of the obligations for final year students of English Department, State Polytechnic of Padang (PNP). A qualitative study which was based on the theory of writing task stages highlighted by the expert in this area was taken. The analysis itself was perceived by applying ‘Guided Writing Task’ stages; Draw and Write Task and Shared Task which resulted in a few written draft scripts. For the triangulation to validate the data, a list of the question was conveyed to the students. The implementation of these two tasks and the students’ answer for the questionnaire show that this research has been helpful in improving their script writing skills, particularly on the grammar and organization of how a script should be written.

All English departments provide the listening courses that must be studied by their students. In fact, the students often find difficulties in understanding the listening texts so that their listening comprehension becomes low. This condition also happens to the students of English department of UNHASY. One of the causes of it is the teaching strategy for listening which is not appropriate. Therefore, the researcher implemented frontloading strategy for teaching listening in this study. The purpose of this study was to know whether or not frontloading strategy influenced the students’ listening comprehension. The research method used was quasi experiment with the design of pretest posttest nonequivalent control group. The population and the sample of the research were the two classes of the second semester students of English education department of UNHASY in the academic year of 2018/2019. After the implementation of frontloading strategy in experimental class and direst listening in control class, the students’ post listening comprehensions were compared by using independent sample t-test whose result was that sig. (2-tailed) (0.004) was lower than 0.05. In short, it is concluded that frontloading strategy influences students’ listening comprehension.

The objective of this study is to know the effects of learning models (problem solving and project based learning) and linguistic intelligence  on the students of persuasive writing skill of the fourth semester students  of English Department, State Polytechnic of Sriwijaya Palembang, in the academic year of 2016-2017. The writer used linguistic intelligence test and persuasive writing test to collect the data. The data was analyzed  statistically by using two-factor ANOVA at 0.05 significance level. The results of this study showed that (1) The students’ persuasive writing skill taught through problem solving was higher than those who were  taught through project based learning. (2) There was interaction effect between learning models and linguistic intelligence toward persuasive writing skill of the fourth semester students of English Department, State Polytechnic of Sriwijaya Palembang. (3) The students’ persuasive writing skill who were taught by using problem solving and having high linguistic intelligence is higher than those who were taught through  project based learning and having high linguistic intelligence. (4)  The students’ persuasive writing skill who were taught through  problem solving and having low linguistic intelligence is lower than those who were taught through project based learning and having low linguistic intelligence.

Writing is considered an essential learning tool for all content areas. However, to master and have excellent writing skills for EFL students of undergraduate programs is challenging. Cohesion and coherence are both crucial textual elements to master writing. The present study examined coherence in English essays written by 46 female Saudi EFL third year at Unaizah College of Sciences and Arts, Qassim University. Examination of essays by the subject group designed to answer the research question. 1.) To what extent are EFL students competent in achieving coherence in writing skills? Each student was asked to write two essays (a writing test that included two essay questions). The data were analyzed through SPSS. The study results demonstrated that learners are not competent in achieving coherence in their writing tasks. In light of these results, recommendations are presented. The results also recommend further studies to investigate coherence and action research to improve this crucial skill among undergraduate Saudi EFL learners.

<p class="Default" align="center"><strong><em>Abstrak</em></strong></p><p>Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui  bagaimana teknik <em>Peer Editing</em> dapat meningkatkan penulisan mahasiswa untuk mahasiswa semester dua program studi pendidikan Agama Islam di IAIN Pontianak pada tahun akademik 2016/2017. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus. Setiap siklus terdiri dari empat tahapan;  perencanaan, tindakan, mengamati, dan evaluasi.  Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa kelas A yang terdiri dari 34mahasiswa dengan perincian 10 mahasiswa pria dan 24 mahasiswa wanita. Penelitian ini menggunakan observasi dan pengukuran sebagai teknik pengumpulan data. Dalam mengumpulkan data, penulis menggunakan data kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Data kualitatif diambil dari daftar observasi, catatan lapangan, dan perekam sementara data kuantitatif diambil dari tes menulis mahasiswa. Kemudian, dalam menganalisis data, penulis menggunakan analisis deskriptif kualitatif untuk data kualitatif dan statistik deskriptif dengan data kuantitatif.</p><p>Berdasarkan hasil checklist observasi, catatan lapangan, dan perekam, mahasiswa merasa termotivasi untuk menulis. Mereka juga aktif dan antusias selama proses pembelajaran dipandu oleh peneliti. Kemudian, hasil nilai individu mahasiswa pada tulisan mereka juga meningkat di siklus kedua. Dalam dua siklus itu, tidak ada siswa yang masuk kategori sangat buruk. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan teknik <em>Peer Editing</em> berhasil meningkatkan keterampilan menulis mahasiswa. Melalui teknik <em>Peer Editing</em>, para mahasiswa dapat menghasilkan dan mengatur ide-ide mereka dan menghasilkan teks  juga. Salah satu saran yang baik bagi dosen untuk menerapkan teknik <em>Peer Editing</em> sebagai cara alternatif untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menulis mahasiswa.<em></em></p><p><em>Kata kunci: menulis, teknik </em><em>Peer Editing, </em><em>IAIN Pontianak</em></p><p class="Default" align="center"><em>Abstract</em></p><p>This research aimed to investigate how Peer Editing technique can improve students’ writing to the second semester students of Islamic education study program of IAIN Pontianak  in the academic year of  2016/2017. This classroom action research was done in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four actions; they were planning, acting, observing and reflecting.  Then, the subject of research was the students of class A consisting of 34 students with detail of 10 male students and 24 female students. This research used observation and measurement as the technique of collecting data. In collected the data, the writer used qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data were taken from observation checklist, field note, and recorder while quantitative data were taken from the students’ writing test. Then, in analyzed the data, the writer used descriptive qualitative analysis to the qualitative data and statistic descriptive to the quantitative data.</p><p>Based on the result of observation checklist, field note, and recorder, the students were feel motivated to write the text. They also were active and enthusiastic during the learning process guided by the researcher. Then, the result of the students’ individual score on their writing had improved too in the second cycle. In the two cycles, there were no students categorized into very poor level. The results of this research showed that the implementation of the Peer Editing technique was successful to improve the students’ writing skill. Through Peer Editing technique, the students were able to generate and organized their ideas and produce a text as well. It is better for the lecturer implemented the Peer Editing technique as the alternative ways to improve students writing skill.</p><p>Keyword: <em>Writing skill</em><em>, </em><em>Peer Editng technique, </em><em>IAIN Pontianak</em></p>

Error may appear when students put the English grammatical incorrectly. Errors is mostly occurred in English as the foreign or second language. The aim of this study is describing kinds of errors are made by the seventh semester students of English department in Madura University on the use of simple past tense in a translated narrative text. The research method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. The subject is seventh semester students of English department which consist of 15 students. The instruments used is translating test. The data is analyzed by collecting the data from students, identifying the errors based on its grammatical errors, classifying them into errors classification, and calculated them into percentage. The results showed that the students' errors can be classified into four kinds of errors, which are 25% for omission errors, 5.36% for addition errors, 62.5% for missed formation errors, and 7.14% for missed ordering errors. There are total 56 errors occurred which is dominated by missed ordering errors. The teachers recommended to make a clear understanding related to differentiate grammatical differences between Indonesia and English. Further, students need to practice it more often. The other researchers can provide techniques to increase students’ English grammatical understanding, especially in simple past tense usage.

The aim of this research was to know perception of watching English movie on Youtube at the second semester the second semester of English department Islamic University of Kalimantan of the 2018/2019 academic year. The subject of this research is the students of class regular A. The instrument used in the data collection was a questionnaire that consist of two part, the first part to find out the students who ever watched English movie on Youtube and the second part to know students’ perception use of watching English movie on Youtube. The data were analyzed using statistical  and shown in tables of frequency.The finding showed that by watching English movie on Youtube English  movie has an influenced for those students in improving their English achievement, then  help them to learn new vocabulary and could be one of  the effective  media in learning English Achievement.  Keywords : learning english, English movie, Youtube
