With the reform of educational evaluation in China, moral education has received much attention. Many scholars have discussed different aspects of the topic. To fulfill the fundamental task of educating students by instilling virtues as proposed by the Central Government, colleges and universities across the country are carrying out education and teaching reform by striving to combine language teaching with moral education. But how can moral education be included in the teaching and learning of English? Is it possible to improve students’ morality while developing their linguistic ability? Based on Hauenstein's taxonomy of educational objectives, this study examined the cases of the Teaching Star final competition in 2020 as examples for analysis, aiming to identify the means to effectively improve the moral education of students in the teaching and learning of College English. All of the objectives and classroom activities are sorted out and analyzed as to whether the objectives of moral education were gained, according to the framework constructed under the guidance of Hauenstein’s taxonomy of educational objectives. The analysis is undertaken from the perspectives of moral education as the objectives, classroom activities and the completeness of the moral instruction system. It is showed that the candidate teachers have awareness of combining language teaching with moral education by formulating teaching objectives at various levels and considering the moral educational function in organizing classroom activities. Despite the results reported here, it is clear there is still much room for improvement. Some moral educational objectives do not display the characteristics of moral education. Most moral educational goals appear to be set at a low level, with the result that they fall short of creating a good behavior profile and, more importantly, of achieving the government’s moral educational goals. It appears clearly that the design of the classroom activities in the cases examined could not support the achievement of the moral educational goals. In consideration of all of these concerns, College English teachers may need to reconsider the cognitive levels of the moral educational goals and design different levels of classroom activities to achieve the goals. Keywords: Moral educational goals, classroom activities, behavioral domain, behavioral profile

Production-oriented approach may provide us with a brand new perspective to our current college English reading instruction. Under this approach, teaching reforms need to be initiated in respects of teaching objectives, teaching materials, teaching methods and assessment. Instructors are required to design appropriate output tasks to stimulate learners’ motivation in reading. In addition, a wide variety of teaching activities need to be designed to fully involve students in classroom activities and ensure the completion of output tasks. The teaching materials should not only be aimed at improving students’ language knowledge, but also is conducive to students’ cross-cultural competence. Finally, immediate assessing and delayed assessing should be employed to guarantee the best possible learning results.

Although teaching and learning language is not a new topic for researchers, it always inspires educators and linguists. Among new teaching approaches, Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) is a teaching method that emphasizes communicative output. This approach has been widely known worldwide since it was first introduced in the 1970s because of the demand for communication skills of language learners. However, there are still many issues raised because teachers are not similar to this method. In terms of language competence, Chomsky (1957) mentions linguistic aspects like lexis, syntax, phonology and morphology as the central part of learning language, while Hymes (1971) concludes grammatic, semantic, sociolinguistic and pragmatic aspects. Hymes’ (1971) theory and other authors' theories lead to a new breakthrough in developing communicative language teaching in teaching and learning a second language. Compared with the Grammar-Translation method, CLT provides learners with more opportunities to develop their communicative ability and increase the role of learners in teaching and learning second language classroom activities, which is hard to find in other old teaching methods. This paper focuses on the overview of CLT in teaching English as a second language. In particular, it summarises the advantages and disadvantages of CLT comparing with old teaching methods, current trends of CLT, obstacles in applying CLT in the university context. Since then, it helps teachers have a better understanding of CLT and the article also suggests implications of teaching English with CLT in the university context, including designing classroom activities and motivating students.

Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) is a learner-centered approach for language teaching and learning. In the CLT context, learner’s role changes from that of a passive receiver to an active participant engaging in diverse classroom activities that promote communicative competence. Again, L2 learners are supposed to learn the language by using it for different tasks, and taking part in pair work, group work, role play, and discussion inside classrooms. This study aims to find out gaps, if any, between learner roles as advocated in CLT theory and as practiced by learners in the higher secondary classrooms in Bangladesh while teaching/learning English following this approach, and its relation to poor ‘learning outcomes’. Journal of NELTA, Vol 20 No. 1-2, December 2015, page: 34-40

<p>Individual factors play a significant role in language teaching and learning. However, the phenomenon still exists that cognition and individual differences are separated from each other in college English teaching in China, which attaches too much importance to cognitive side of language learning while neglecting the functions of individual factors. The paper first gives a brief introduction about the present status of language teaching in China. And then the theoretical background of the study is proposed. Afterwards, a detailed analysis is given in this paper about the influences that individual factors bring about on language learning and teaching. Finally, some suggestions are put forward on how to reduce the negative aspects of learners’ individual factors to strengthen the positive teaching effects.</p>

To realize functions and achieve educational goals, improving the quality of learning in class is an important thing. The use of Articulate Studio in language teaching and learning is one of various ways as an alternative medium in the development of educational technology. Language classes only have activities once or twice a month that make students feel unable and the textbooks used there only provide limited practice for listening. To help teachers not only read listening scripts from books and use LCD, Audio, and Computer Laboratories available at school.
