The study aims to determine the response of microalgae community structure codominant and abiotic factors change Sutami Malang waters due to the addition of the detergent concentration variation in ex-situ. The experiment was conducted in September 2007 to March 2008. The addition of the detergent concentration consists of four levels, namely D0 (0 ppm), D1 (0.1 ppm), D2 (2 ppm) and D3 (4 ppm) of detergent to the water reservoir. Variable dynamics of microalgae abundance and abiotic factors waters observed simultaneously and periodically every five days for 40 days. The results showed that increasing the concentration of detergent changing dynamics of microalgae community structure codominant. Detergents suppress the growth Ceratium at a concentration ≥ 0.1 ppm. Instead detergent Synedra population increases until day 30 and stimulate the growth of Microcystis. During the 40 days of observation, abiotic factors change due to the addition of detergent concentration, especially the increase in conductivity, Total Organic Matter, phosphate, nitrate and surfactant. In contrast to lower CO2-free detergents and Dissolved Oxygen. Changes in abiotic factors significantly affect the growth of microalgae codominant.

Copepod populations of three temporary freshwater pools (Alnus unit, Carex unit, and Molinia unit) were studied using a standard approach (species versus abiotic factors) and a holistic one (body size and feeding ecology). Multiple regression analyses of data indicate that the physical and chemical features of water (temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, mineral content, and depth) explain 62 to 98% of the variability of carnivorous copepods, while the abundance of their prey accounts for much less. No size class of prey seems to be preferred. The abundance of decaying organic matter, typical of such pools, would result in an overabundance of prey. Predators would then be under the control of nonalimentary factors.

The community structure analysis on macrozoobenthos was conducted in relation to the monitoring action of water condition on Jakarta Bay. The bay was classified into 4 zones, such as A, B, C,and D. The zone A is located approximately 20 miles from land and the zone D is nearest (5 miles) from land. The analysis comprised of species composition, abundance, diversity, homogeneity, dominance, and other parameters of water quality such as depth, temperature, tranparancy, current velocity, salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH, total organic matter, and substrate texture. The results show that there were 5 classes of macrozoobenthos, consisting of 42 families and 63 genera. There were Scaphophods, Gastrophods, Bivalvas, Malacostracans, and Polychaetas found in zone A with regard to Scaphophods domination. There were only Bivalvas, Scaphophods, Gastrophods, and Malacostracans found in zone B, C, and D with regard to Bivalvas domination. The abundance of these macrozoobenthos ranged from 2.215 to 323.100 ind.m-2. The diversity index ranged from 0.55 to 2.95 indicating low diversity. The homogeneity index ranged from 0.14 to 0.79, indicating the low to high category. The dominance index was about 0.17 to 0.86, showing the variety water condition. A species, Donax sp. (Bivalva) was most dominant in Zone D (St D4) The parameters of water qualitying Jakarta Bay might be in general to support the life of macrozoobenthos.

The community structure of marine nematode assemblages in the southern-west of Borneo was investigated with special focus on the horizontal distribution from high tide to subtidal area. A transect study had been conducted in Teluk Awar. Nine stations were chosen from the Mean High Water Neap to Mean Low Water Neap level. The physico-chemical characteristic of water and sediments were determined both ex situ. One-way ANOVA showed that the environmental variables among stations were significantly different (except chlorophyll a and total organic matter). Multi-dimensional scaling demonstrated three distinct patterns among the stations while dendrogram showed high dissimilarity percentage in the species distribution among stations. In conclusion, the results showed that environmental variables such as clay, total organic matter and temperature were affecting the nematode distribution pattern in Teluk Awar.

The study of heavy metal speciation in bottom sediments of the Vyshnevolotsky water reservoir is presented in this paper. Sequential selective procedure was used to determine the heavy metal speciation in bottom sediments and thermodynamic calculation — to determine ones in interstitial water. It has been shown that Mn are mainly presented in exchangeable and carbonate forms; for Fe, Zn, Pb и Co the forms are related to iron and manganese hydroxides is played an important role; and Cu and Ni are mainly associated with organic matter. In interstitial waters the main forms of heavy metal speciation are free ions for Zn, Ni, Co and Cd, carbonate complexes for Pb, fulvate complexes for Cu. Effects of particle size and organic matter content in sediments on distribution of mobile and potentially mobile forms of toxic elements have been revealed.

Grass and milk consumption and liveweight changes of lambs grazed at stocking rates ranging from 9 to 35 sheep/ha were measured during a 105 day lactation. Grass consumption and wool production of their mothers and of similar ewes without lambs were also determined. The forage and total organic matter intakes of the lamb increased with time while milk consumption declined; all three variables were negatively correlated with stocking rate. The intake of the ewe and its liveweight gain were not sensitive to increasing stocking rate, but wool production declined at higher stocking rates. The maintenance requirement of the ewes was estimated to be 218 kJ metabolizable energy/kg liveweight, and the efficiency with which metabolizable energy was utilized for milk production was 66%. Lactation increased the intake of the ewe but reduced its wool production.
