The article is devoted to the subjective assessment of the Belarusian student youth’s life quality, considered in the context of the implementation of the state youth policy. The concept of life quality is considered within the framework of the subjective approach that attributes to the individual a fundamental role in social life. Measuring of the subjective quality means making use of the index method, designed to reduce social information to a single indicator, regardless of the total number of the object’s indicators. Within the framework of the developed technique for measuring life quality, calculated were individual (particular) indices that describe the characteristics of the student youth’s public consciousness to certain aspects of life quality, as well as the integral index of life quality and aggregate index of the standard of living. The indicators of life quality are as follows: subjective assessment of the material standard of living, subjective assessment of health, accessibility and quality of medical care, subjective assessment of accessibility and quality of education, subjective assessment of accessibility and quality of social infrastructure, subjective assessment of the state of ecological environment, subjective assessment of quality of social environment and satisfaction with quality of life. The given technique enables to diagnose various aspects of the students’ life and identify weaknesses in implementing particular areas of the state youth policy. It was used to measure the quality of life of the Belarus State Economic University students who were the object of the study carried out in two stages – in 2019 and 2020. A comparative analysis of the data showed that the respondents demonstrated a high degree of satisfaction with both objective living conditions and subjective perception of the degree of satisfaction with their needs. The analysis of the general indices of subjective quality of life in retrospective, current and prospective aspects testifies to the respondents’ social optimism since their values do not decrease and in some cases increase. The only exception is the value of the index of subjective assessment of social environment quality: its decrease in 2020 indicates that the respondents fixed a negative impact on their lives and life of the whole society, which was caused by the socio-economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and the political crisis in the country. Although social optimism is weakly expressed, the given epiphenomenon can be explained by the fact that the young people consider all indicators of life quality as virtually equal that is both conditioned by the results of socialisation and logic of a modern society’s development.

The quality of life is commonly referred to as a determinant of well-being, contentment, happiness or a sense of satisfaction with one’s own existence. Often used interchangeably with the level, conditions or standard of living. Quality of life is the satisfaction of meeting all human needs. The main aim of this research is to determine the level and quality of life in terms of tourism by the Polish community living in the Greater Toronto Area, which includes the city of Toronto and four regions: Halton, Peel, York and Durham. The article will present its own model of objective factors (standard of living) and subjective factors (life quality) interacting with each other with a particular emphasis on geographic and tourism aspects. The main aim of this article is to show how the Polish community living in the Greater Toronto Area assesses the aspects related to tourism management in the city. The results of the study will be presented on the basis of a survey questionnaire conducted on 583 respondents. The respondents assessed, among other things, whether they were satisfied with the conditions of rest and relaxation in this city, public transport and the environmental quality. Respondents were also asked to evaluate the activity of Polish travel agencies operating in the Greater Toronto Area. The study will also address matters related to improving the quality of life and tourism development in the city. As indicated by the respondents, such activities as supporting existing tourist activities, expansion of bicycle paths or increasing sports and recreational infrastructure (i.e. construction projects of swimming pools, tennis courts) are the main needs in the city, which could contribute to the higher rated aspects of Toronto related to tourism. Data will be presented showing that in the Polish community in the last twelve months their household had enough income to cover the costs related to leisure, vacations, holidays or school breaks.

The article is devoted to the issue of sociological measurement of the quality of life of the population. It is argued that the key criteria for the quality of life of the population in the modern world are precisely non-economic indicators - such as subjective well-being, level of happiness, and social mood. The article provides evidence of the need for a subjective way of measuring the quality of life, which allows us to assess the living conditions of people through the prism of their real needs. The article clarifies the definition of quality of life: quality of life is an integrative or complex characteristic of the existence of the population, which can be measured by objective indicators of its standard of living or subjective assessments by members of society of the degree of satisfaction of their own needs. The analysis of the different ways of assessing the quality of life the author comes to the conclusion that the result of an objective method of measuring quality of life is the standard of living of the population, and the result of the subjective method of measuring quality of life - social well-being (subjective well-being, life satisfaction). The author insists that mixing subjective and objective indicators when constructing averaging quality of life indices is inappropriate, since in this case there is a risk of getting an irrelevant average. The conclusion is argued that it is advisable to make objective and subjective types of measurement of quality of life separately from each other, while comparing them with each other. The key input is formulated: the quality of life of a social actor through the prism of the sociological dimension is a measurement of social well - being (subjective well-being, or life satisfaction), and the position of a social actor in society through the prism of the sociological dimension is a social mood. At the same time, the phenomenon of social mood is represented by a synthesis of its static and dynamic components, the first of which represents social well - being, the second-orientation to value experiences and the corresponding readiness to act in a certain way. It is argued that the phenomenon that most generally characterizes the happiness system of an individual or group social subject (actor) is social mood. The definition of the concept of social mood is formulated as a General indicator of the position of a social actor in social reality, according to which social mood is a complex emotional and rational characteristic of an individual or group social actor characteristic of a certain period of time, determined by various aspects of the activity of this actor and determining its practical activity.

The article presents results of the research of modern students' subjective perceptions about the quality of life. The analysis of the literature has shown that the ideas about the quality of life are formed on the basis of the objective situation of human life and its subjective assessment. The initial perceptions about the quality of life were related to the ability to work, have an income, have the opportunity to receive education and medical care. Gradually, the list of indicators of life quality expanded and now it includes social activity, psychological comfort, the ability to take part in solving important issues, etc. The study subjective perceptions about the quality of modern students’ life took place on several key issues: What does the quality of life depend on? The quality of life for me is...? What measures does the state take to improve the quality of life of the population? The category of the population with the highest quality of life? The category of the population with the lowest quality of life? What measures should be taken to improve the quality of life? How has the quality of life changed in the digital economy era? What threats to the quality of life exist? The analysis of the survey results showed that two-thirds of the respondents believe that the quality of life depends on social, economic, environmental, and political conditions, and only one-third of the students note that the quality of life is determined by the values and lifestyle of each individual. The article also presents a list of threats and measures to improve the quality of life of people.

Background/Aim. There is an evidence of increasing necessity to use indices for measuring impact of oral health on the elderly life quality for the purposes of the state-of-the art clinical dental practice. It is at least because data obtained in that way suggest whether a treatment is required, help in deciding upon a kind of dental treatment, as well as in evaluating the extent of success of the applied therapeutical procedures. The aim of the study was to translate into Serbian the Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14) index and to assess its validity in practice as its initial verification in the Serbian speaking areas. Methods. The OHIP-14 index was translated into Serbian and check-up of its easy-to-understand done in a group of 30 common elderly (above 65 years of age) with a total or partial prosthetic restoration. The study individuals did not fill in a questionnaire by themselves, instead the questions were put orally. If needed, additional explanations were given with no any suggesting a possible answer. Results. Considering the given answers and the shown need for additional explanations to some questions indicated that the question number 5 in the OHIP-14, namely 'Have you been selfconscious because of your mouth or dentures?' (Serbian, 'Da li ste bili samosvesni usled problema sa Vasim ustima i protezama?') cannot be adequately translated into Serbian because even 28 (93.3%) of the tested individuals were not able to understand it inspite the given explanations. Other questions were well understood, thus allowing to use the answers to them as score for a certain discomfort. Of all the tested, 13 (43%) denied any psychosocial disorders or experienced them only rarely, while 60% of the tested answered affirmately to the question 'Do you consider your life generally less satisfactory due to the problems induced by teeth and dentures?' pointing out a significant impact of oral health condition on the quality of life. Conclusion. The OHIP-14 index renders valuable and dependable data on the quality of life of elderly with dentures, thus it is favorable to use it in practice. Due to difficulties in understanding the question number 5, however, it was omitted off the final Serbian language version. Anyhow, its validity in a more numerous test group should be evaluated, as well as other indices introduced into Serbian speaking area to let a comparison made and the most suitable questionnaire used.

The content of this article is devoted to theoretical aspects of the study of the problems of welfare, the life quality and lifestyle of the population, which the author calls with one simple notion – the quality of life. The article contains certain elements of scientific novelty. In particular, the author establishes the main components of quality of life: economic, ecological, sociological and psychological. The article proves that all the components interact in the complex; none of them is prevail against other and cannot replace others. The article also clarified the structure of the category “quality of life”, which, on the one hand, indicates the ability to satisfy human needs, including the needs of society; on the other hand, shows the degree of satisfaction of the person’s own life. Such a dualistic approach to the concept of quality of life is, in the author’s opinion, the basis for the formation of the concept of quality of life based on objective and subjective assessments. This concept in the framework of the research has been classical, because, in fact, was formed because of century evolution of different theories and scientific approaches to problems of quality of life. The author characterizes the four historical phases, which formed four distinct approaches to understanding the level and quality of life. The author further discussed the material, quantitative and integrated approaches, as these approaches formed in scientific and theoretical terms and as independent academic schools. The article is a logical continuation of the research of the author on issues related to the quality of life of the population.
