Background: Contemporary health policies call for consumers to be part of all aspects of service planning, implementation, delivery and evaluation. The extent to which consumers are part of the systemic decision-making levels of palliative care appears to vary between and within services and organisations. Aim: The aim of this systematic review is to develop understandings about consumer and carer leadership in palliative care. Design: A systematic, narrative synthesis approach was adopted due to the heterogeneity of included studies. The review was registered on PROSPERO prospectively (PROSPERO 2018 CRD42018111625). Data sources: PubMed, Scopus and PsycINFO were searched for all studies published in English specifically focusing on consumers’ leadership in palliative care organisations and systems. Articles were appraised for quality using a modified JBI-QARI tool. Results: Eleven studies met the inclusion criteria and quality assessment. Consumers are currently involved in leadership of palliative care teaching, research and services. Findings highlight the benefits of consumer leadership in palliative care including more relevant, higher-quality services, teaching and research. Across the included studies, it was not clear the extent to which consumer leaders had influence in relation to setting agendas across the palliative care sector. Conclusion: The findings suggest that more could be done to support consumer leadership within palliative care. Academics and clinicians might improve the relevance of their work if they are able to more meaningfully partner with consumers in systemic roles in palliative care.

What determines companies to file patents? To answer this question we present a systematic review, in which 22 empirical studies published in scientific periodicals were selected. Based on the descriptive analysis of these studies, a framework is proposed that brings together a set of explanatory variables that influence the propensity to patent in internal and external factors. The cumulative results of the reviewed articles suggest a positive correlation of firm size and R & D with the propensity to patent. A unanimous result among the articles is that the Industrial Sector in which the company is inserted has a significant influence on the propensity to patent. Regarding the variables Age, Collaboration Network and Competition, the results of the research were divergent, indicating a positive, negative or non-significant relationship. However, these determinants are still poorly understood due to the divergence of the research results.

Mental fatigue (MF) is a psycho-biological state that impairs sports-related performances. Recently, it has been proved that MF can affect basketball performance. However, a systematic overview detailing the influences of MF on basketball performance is still lacking. This study aims to investigate the effects of MF on the physical, technical, tactical, and cognitive performance of basketball. We used the databases of PubMed, Web of Science, SPORTDiscus, Scopes, and CKNI for articles published up to 31 May 2021. The articles included in this study were projected to test whether MF influences basketball athlete performance. Only experimental design studies were selected, and the control condition was without MF. Finally, seven articles fit the inclusion criteria. The results imply that MF impairs the technical aspects of basketball (free throws, three-point shots, and total turnover) and the players' cognitive [take-the-first (TTF) heuristics and decision-making] performance, which results in athletes not using their techniques skillfully and being unable to make practical decisions during critical points in the game. In addition to that, the influences of MF on physical and tactical performance have not been studied. Further studies should look into comprehensive research on the influences of MF on basketball performance, especially on a player's physical and tactical performance.Systematic Review Registration: [https://inplasy.com/] [INPLASY2021100017].

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease that is both infectious and deadly. Although it can be prevented and treated, the increasing number of TB patients is a nation-wide and global challenge, and thus it requires efforts to control the disease appropriately leading to good treatment outcomes. Identifying the determinants of treatment outcomes is necessary to improve control strategies and programs for TB. Scientific evidence on this issue is still limited. This systematic review aims to describe the potential determinants of TB treatment outcomes regarding the patient’s internal and external factors. The review was carried out using the procedures specified in the PRISMA guidelines. Five databases were used to identify studies related to the determinants of treatment outcomes obtained. There were 829 articles meeting the screening criteria, 23 meeting the criteria for full article review, and 21 for analysis. Most scientific evidence reports the age, sex, HIV status, and location of TB as determinants of treatment outcomes. Sorting and selecting data consistently are necessary in reporting the results of TB treatment which then becomes the foundation for formulating appropriate, targeted, effective, and most needed policies or interventions in improving treatment outcomes and reducing incidence of TB.

Over the last decade, risk management has become increasingly important both in financial and non-financial businesses. This is due to the increase in uncertainty caused by a number of internal and external factors. Genesis of business risk can be related to the divergence between external factors and components of organizational and operational structures of companies. In this chapter, a baseline risk taxonomy was proposed, and the cognitive, regulatory, and social components of risk inherent in a decision-making process were analyzed. A synthesis model was then elaborated, which exposes the relationships between decision-maker, decision-making, and environment for risk management, including through decision-making information technology.

Drawing on case study evidence, this article explores the reasons small specialist retailers internationalize and the facilitating factors that help them overcome the obstacles to internationalization. The authors employ qualitative research techniques and, to build theory from an unexplored area of research, adopt a multiple-case approach. The findings suggest that though a strong company brand identity is the most significant motive for expansion, other internal and external factors facilitate the international decision-making process.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to implement the strategies selection process in a proposed formulated mathematical framework to prioritize selected strategies with the interaction of other groups of strategies, known as the strategies interaction model (SIM).Design/methodology/approachSWOT analysis is a popular useful strategic planning tool, which analyzes organizations internal and external factors. The traditional SWOT procedure lists internal and external factors and derives four groups of strategies based on the organization’s strategic position. SWOT is easy to use as a business analyzing tool, while it is not competent enough for strategic formulation. With the emergence of the economy’s vicissitudes, undulations in the markets and multiple changes, and various variables in the industrial competitive environment, selection of the organization strategies confront uncertainty in decision making. The SIM framework presents a solution to select alternative strategies for organizations in unpredictable situations.FindingsThe findings show that SIM is a reliable approach to evaluate, select and rank organization’ strategies. SIM proposes alternative strategies due to the uncertainty of the organization’ environment with respect to the four strategic positions. The SIM’ proposed ranking process is in accordance with the highest impact of each strategy on each other. Furthermore, it possesses advantages of AHP, ANP and other applied multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques in SWOT analysis.Practical implicationsIn this paper SIM is applied within a dairy company located in the north of Iran.Originality/valueSIM has the advantages of the classic SWOT and fills the gaps of MCDM methods application in the SWOT analysis. Moreover, it provides a formulated algorithm for the organizations to face the uncertainty of the environment. SIM philosophy can be widely used in the decision and managerial implications.
