What determines companies to file patents? To answer this question we present a systematic review, in which 22 empirical studies published in scientific periodicals were selected. Based on the descriptive analysis of these studies, a framework is proposed that brings together a set of explanatory variables that influence the propensity to patent in internal and external factors. The cumulative results of the reviewed articles suggest a positive correlation of firm size and R & D with the propensity to patent. A unanimous result among the articles is that the Industrial Sector in which the company is inserted has a significant influence on the propensity to patent. Regarding the variables Age, Collaboration Network and Competition, the results of the research were divergent, indicating a positive, negative or non-significant relationship. However, these determinants are still poorly understood due to the divergence of the research results.

This review study focuses on a forensic psychological tool, Brain electrical Oscillation Signature Profiling, and its mechanism. In precise, this paper reviews the studies of eyewitness testimony and BEOS in particular. The previous empirical studies and review articles elucidate that BEOS can be used to overcome the effect of internal and external factors in eyewitness testimony. False memory or confabulatory experiences would not affect the accuracy of Brain Electrical Oscillation Signature Profiling. During the trial process, witness testimony can do through BEOS in the future. More empirical researches are necessary for the application of forensic psychology tools in the field of witness testimony.

This research investigates the contemporary publications about rural education policies. The paper intends to verify both, the scientific progress and the subjects addressed in Brazilian journals. A systematic review was used in the “Periódicos Capes” database through the descriptors “rural education” and “public policy”, date “2009/2017”. The criteria for inclusions in the analysis were a clearly defined methodology and the possibility of setting a thematic framework. Ninety-three papers were analyzed, with 52 selected for general descriptive analysis, and 10 selected for in-depth discussion. Qualitative empirical studies predominated, and the main thematic trend was “regional trajectory” (31%). Consequently, a strong tendency was demonstrated throughout the publications: contemporary phenomena observed from the perspective of the country’s citizens.

Communication effectiveness has been one of important factors in daily life covering workplaces, relationships, and all sorts of human interaction. As a workplace or even learning centres, any organisation shall need to practise good and effective communication, from within and outside organisation, to achieve its goals. Many researchers have developed and shared various theories, models and frameworks with regards to this topic of interest due to its cruciality to be achieved and practised. However, communication is a very broad subject and is affected by many internal and external factors. The internal and external factors may both refer to communication barriers, which could be a stimulus, a situation or even an object that may hinder or prohibit any part of a communication process making it harder for messages to be encoded and decoded precisely by parties involved. The purpose of this research is to investigate the factors influencing effective communication in an organisation. This research is a qualitative research that used questionnaires as the instrument for collection of data. The data was collected and viable at 77% out of 69 respondents which was derived from the total population of 90 elements. Sample selection was based on a non-probability approach. The data collected was then evaluated by using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) through which numerous tests were converged such as reliability test, normality test, frequency distribution, descriptive analysis and multiple regression analysis. The results indicated that organisational environment affects effective communication more than language and culture do. Keywords: Effective Communication, Organisation, Cultural Studies

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease that is both infectious and deadly. Although it can be prevented and treated, the increasing number of TB patients is a nation-wide and global challenge, and thus it requires efforts to control the disease appropriately leading to good treatment outcomes. Identifying the determinants of treatment outcomes is necessary to improve control strategies and programs for TB. Scientific evidence on this issue is still limited. This systematic review aims to describe the potential determinants of TB treatment outcomes regarding the patient’s internal and external factors. The review was carried out using the procedures specified in the PRISMA guidelines. Five databases were used to identify studies related to the determinants of treatment outcomes obtained. There were 829 articles meeting the screening criteria, 23 meeting the criteria for full article review, and 21 for analysis. Most scientific evidence reports the age, sex, HIV status, and location of TB as determinants of treatment outcomes. Sorting and selecting data consistently are necessary in reporting the results of TB treatment which then becomes the foundation for formulating appropriate, targeted, effective, and most needed policies or interventions in improving treatment outcomes and reducing incidence of TB.
