This study enriches the literature on entrepreneurial decisions by investigating the antecedents of the synergetic use of causal and effectual logic. Based on entrepreneurial metacognition and emotional complexity theories, we argued that the emotional complexity of an entrepreneur, referred to as the granular experience of, or variety in, experienced emotions during the entrepreneurial task, would contribute to the synergetic use of decision logic. With survey data gathered from 218 Chinese entrepreneurs, we found that entrepreneurs with higher emotional complexity are more likely to adopt two types of entrepreneurial logic in tandem, and cognitive flexibility mediates this positive relationship. Thereby, this study helps to unravel some of the complexities behind the choice of decision logic of entrepreneurs.

Econometric evidence strongly suggests that unemployed job-seekers who use the services of a Public Employment Agency (PEA) have longer unemployment spells than those choosing alternative search methods. Yet, in some well-designed U.S. experiments, increased use of PEA services has been associated with faster transitions into jobs. The author argues that the nonexperimental studies may be biased toward finding a positive relationship between unemployment spell duration and PEA use because they ignore the possibility that PEAs are chosen by many job-seekers only after other search methods have been tried unsuccessfully and a period of unemployment has elapsed. An analysis of U.K. survey data with information on the timing of PEA use in 1987–88 supports that hypothesis.

(1) Background: The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has caused disruptions to what people eat, but the pandemic’s impact on diet varies between individuals. The goal of our study was to test whether pandemic-related stress was associated with food intake, and whether relationships between stress and intake were modified by appetitive and cognitive traits. (2) Methods: We cross-sectionally surveyed 428 adults to examine current intake frequency of various food types (sweets/desserts, savory snacks, fast food, fruits, and vegetables), changes to food intake during the pandemic, emotional overeating (EOE), cognitive flexibility (CF), and COVID-19-related stress. Models tested associations of stress, EOE, and CF with food intake frequency and changes to intake. (3) Results: Models demonstrated that the positive relationship between stress and intake of sweets/desserts was stronger with higher EOE, while the positive relationship between stress and intake of chips/savory snacks was weaker with higher CF. Higher EOE was associated with greater risk of increased intake of palatable foods. (4) Conclusions: Findings suggest that emotional overeating may escalate stress-associated intake of high-sugar foods, and cognitive flexibility may attenuate stress-associated intake of high-fat foods. Differences in appetitive and cognitive traits may explain changes to and variability in food intake during COVID-19, and efforts to decrease emotional overeating and encourage cognitive flexibility could help lessen the effect of COVID-19-related stress on energy dense food intake.

AbstractSurvey counts of spruce budworm, Choristoneura fumiferana (Clem.), female pupae, and eggs recorded annually at about 1000 sample points in New Brunswick from 1960 to 1975 provided ratios of eggs to females (E/F ratios) which are a measure of apparent reproduction. The 10-fold variation in the ratios was inversely associated with the frequency of July storm tracks. A positive relationship between E/F ratios and changes in the area of the budworm infestation in the province was also shown.

Purpose This study aims to investigate digitalization as a performance driver in supply chains, especially the role of data analytics in the digitalization of procurement. The study investigates how digital procurement capabilities are linked to data analytics capabilities and supply chain operational performance and how this links to business success. Design/methodology/approach Using operational and dynamic capabilities as foundations for data analytics capabilities, this paper studied the digital procurement capabilities and proposed the conceptual model and hypotheses for empirical testing. The collected industry survey data and structural equation method are then applied to test the hypotheses. Findings The study confirms positive and significant relationships among digital procurement capabilities, data analytics capabilities and supply chain performance. Digital procurement capabilities mediate the positive relationship between external data analytics capabilities and supply chain performance. Research limitations/implications This study has some limitations that should be addressed. The empirical study was based on survey data from a questionnaire that was probably challenging for some respondent companies with low levels of digital procurement and data analytics. Also, it is necessary to adopt secondary data to measure business performance in future studies which reduces the effect of subjective bias. Practical implications From the managerial point of view, the findings highlight the importance of gaining knowledge from gathered data and digitalized processes. Managers must focus on data utilization capabilities to improve the operational performance expected from the digitalization of supply chain activities. In addition, managers need to consider exploiting of data through new creative approaches as part of standardized operations. Originality/value The present study contributes to existing knowledge by investigating the mediating role of data analytics capabilities between the digitalization of procurement and supply chain performance. The findings support a positive relationship between the data analytics capabilities and supply chain performance in digital upstream supply chain procurement processes. The present study also clarifies the impact and role of data analytics capabilities in digital supply chain development and success.

With a basis in conservation of resources theory, this study investigates the relationship between employees’ sense of job dissatisfaction and their engagement in deviant behaviour, as well as the moderating roles that their exposure to abusive leadership and possession of adaptive humour skills can play in this process. Based on two-way survey data collected from employees in Pakistan, the findings show that employees’ unhappy feelings about their job situations enhance the likelihood that they undertake negative behaviours that can harm their organization, especially when they suffer from abusive leadership or lack adaptive humour skills. The buffering effect of their adaptive humour on the positive relationship between job dissatisfaction and deviant behaviour is also particularly salient in the presence of abusive leadership. The effect of camera changes on the recognition and evaluation of Postbus 51 campaign advertisements The effect of camera changes on the recognition and evaluation of Postbus 51 campaign advertisements Campaign advertisements of the Dutch Government (the so-called Postbus 51 campaigns) that were broadcast between 1999 and 2009 on the Dutch television were used to examine whether camera changes with and without a change of the central object in the screen have an influence on the recognition and evaluation of the advertisements. The advertisements were content analyzed and combined with population survey data regarding the recognition (N = 193) and evaluation (N = 137) of these advertisements. Results showed that the relationship between camera changes including the change of the central object and recognition takes the form of an inverted U. There was a linear positive relationship between camera changes with a change of the central object and evaluations. No effects on recognition and evaluation were found for camera changes without a change of the central object.

This research uses survey data from reality in seven provinces across the country to assess whether factors such as the content of food safety control, obstacles or perceptions of the people affect the level of food safety. This study results show that the control contenthas a positive relationship with the level of food safety. However, the obstaclesfrom people when choosing food do not have any positive or negative impact on the level of food safety. The ecommendation from the article is that managers may increase providing information and knowledge about food to people, which will make food safer.

In this study, variables predicting the five-factor personality traits of adolescents were examined. These variables are cognitive flexibility, social self-efficacy, and cognitive errors. Research on middle and high school students from 7th.8th.9th.10th.11th.and 12th grades, a total of 441 students, participated to the study. In the study, the Five Factor Personality Inventory, Social Self Efficacy Scale, Cognitive Flexibility Scale and Cognitive Errors Questionnaire were used. The findings of the study show that significant predictied variables for five personality traits are cognitive flexibility, social self-efficacy and cognitive errors. As a result, positive relationship between social self-efficacy and extraversion, aggreeablesness, and openness to experiences personality traits were emerged. It was determined that there was a positive relationship between self-control personality traits and cognitive flexibility, and a negative relationship cognitive flexibility with neuroticism. However, results showed that over-generalization error was commonly used by people who had self-control and neuroticism personality traits. Self-control and agreeablesness of the personality traits were used at the same time personalization errors.  It is determined that only individuals with agreeablesness trait seemed to made error of selective abstraction. Overall, It is seen that people who are cognitive flexibility are extraversion, agreeablesness, self-control and openness to experiences personality traits.

Abstract Objective The present study examined the relationship between anxiety, corticomedial and basolateral amygdala volume, and cognitive flexibility among older adults (OA). We hypothesized that higher subclinical Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) scores would be associated with lower cognitive flexibility, assessed using the Delis-Kaplan Executive Function System (D-KEFS) verbal fluency. Additionally, we hypothesized that basolateral amygdala volume would negatively correspond to anxiety scores and exhibit a positive relationship with cognitive flexibility. Method Sixty-three OA (M age: 65; SD: 9; 59% female) were recruited via community advertising and cardiac clinics for a parent study on cardiovascular disease. Participants completed the D-KEFS and BAI as part of a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment prior to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Amygdala segmentation was completed with FreeSurfer version 6.0, using T1-weighted MPRAGE and T2-weighted FLAIR images. Data was analyzed using hierarchical multiple regression, controlling for age, sex, years of education, and intracranial volume. Results No significant relationship emerged between basolateral amygdala volume and BAI scores (r = .11, p = .41) or cognitive flexibility (r = .04, p = .76). However, a significant positive relationship was observed between corticomedial amygdala volume and cognitive flexibility after controls (β = 0.37, p < .01). Conclusions The previously reported relationship between high anxiety and basolateral amygdala volume does not appear to extend to subclinical levels. We conjecture that the significant relationship between the corticomedial amygdala and cognitive flexibility represents the upward slope between arousal and cognitive performance on the Yerkes-Dodson curve. These findings newly implicate corticomedial amygdala volume as a representative measure linking emotional arousal and cognitive performance in OA.
