Careers are a reality of life that need to be considered as multi-dimensional in today’s modern societies. Choosing a career is a complex process that coincides with high school and university ages, creating psycho-social stress. Considering the literature, the effects of different environmental factors have been revealed in separate studies. This study examines both individual and environmental factors together. By adopting a quantitative research method, we collected cross-sectional data through online questionnaires from 1130 university students. The association of family influence and academic satisfaction with happiness through career decision self-efficacy was meaningful using gender, age, income, and parents’ education as control variables. Family influence and academic satisfaction were positively correlated with career decision self-efficacy and happiness. In conclusion, we found that family influence and support, students’ work, and academic satisfaction are positively significant in terms of the career process and happiness. It was understood that the career reality should be considered with a holistic view that includes family, school, and work experience.

The purpose of this study was to examine the career development of underprepared college students using relational career theory. Specifically, the constructs of family influence, locus of control, and career decision-making self-efficacy were explored as they relate to perceived success in college. Significant correlations between external locus of control and family expectations, financial support, and values and beliefs were found indicating that greater family influence is related to external control. Additionally, higher levels of career decision-making self-efficacy were related to internal locus of control and informational support from family. These findings support previous research as well as theorized relational career theory connections.

International evidence shows that the demand for STEM workers is expected to grow significantly. Despite this, students’ interests and motivation towards STEM learning especially STEM Vocational Education and Training (VET) is not increasing. This Skills Gap phenomenon has driven many countries to adopt policies and take initiatives to help close it. The purpose of this research is to study what factors influence the enrolment of students in Vocational STEM courses. The participants were students following a STEM programme at the Institute of Applied Sciences, MCAST. A quantitative research methodology was adopted for this study. An online cross-sectional survey questionnaire, containing Likert scale responses, was used to collect data. The SPSS Statistics 24 program was used to analyse the data and test it for reliability and validity. Factor analysis was carried out to reduce the initial independent variables into a fewer number of dimensions. The study found that parental advice, students’ interest in STEM subjects, their previous work experience and their positive attitude towards VET education are most influential in students’ enrolment in vocational STEM courses. It also highlights the need for school guidance officers to acquire more knowledge about VET STEM careers and accurate labour market information so as to assist students to make well-informed career path decisions. The findings of this study will provide valuable insight as to the causes of low enrolment within MCAST STEM programmes and help stakeholders determine the measures and strategies needed to encourage participation in STEM vocational studies.

Abstract This study aimed to determine the correlation of career decision-making self-efficacy and career decision making. The hypothesis of this study that there is a correlation between self-efficacy and career decision making. Subjects in this study are 405 high school students in Jakarta. This study used quantitative research methods and data collection using CDSE-SF (Career Decision Self Efficacy- Short Form) and CDS (Career Decision Scale) which has been translated into Indonesian. The result of the reliability test for CDSE-SF scale was 0.840 and 0.866 for CDS scale. The result validity test of CDSE-SF from 0.310 to 0.551; while CDS of 0.334 to 0.641. The process of data analysis using SPSS 17 applications, Pearson product moment correlation. These results contrast with the hypothesis, there was no correlation between career decision making self-efficacy and career decision making (r = 0.094, p> 0.05). It can be concluded that the proposed hypothesis is rejected. This study has contributed in the field of educational psychology research additions adolescent career. Keywords: career decision-making self-efficacy, career decision making

AbstractIntroductionProximal environments could facilitate smoking cessation among low-income smokers by making cessation appealing to strive for and tenable.AimsWe sought to examine how home smoking rules and proximal environmental factors such as other household members' and peers' smoking behaviors and attitudes related to low-income smokers' past quit attempts, readiness, and self-efficacy to quit.MethodsThis analysis used data from Offering Proactive Treatment Intervention (OPT-IN) (randomized control trial of proactive tobacco cessation outreach) baseline survey, which was completed by 2,406 participants in 2011/12. We tested the associations between predictors (home smoking rules and proximal environmental factors) and outcomes (past-year quit attempts, readiness to quit, and quitting self-efficacy).ResultsSmokers who lived in homes with more restrictive household smoking rules, and/or reported having ‘important others’ who would be supportive of their quitting, were more likely to report having made a quit attempt in the past year, had greater readiness to quit, and greater self-efficacy related to quitting.ConclusionsAdjustments to proximal environments, including strengthening household smoking rules, might encourage cessation even if other household members are smokers.

The relationship between dispositions towards critical thinking, creative-innovative performance, self-efficacy and teaching practice was assessed in Peruvian teacher trainers from the Amazonian region of San Martin. Direct and big relationships were found between all variables. A model that explained 42% of the variance of teaching practice is presented, where dispositions towards critical thinking and creative and innovative performance have a direct effect on teacher self-efficacy. In addition, teacher self-efficacy fully mediates the relationship between dispositions toward critical thinking, and partially mediates the relationship between creative-innovative performance and teaching practices. Likewise, results show differences according to sex, work experience, specialization and work place. It is suggested to include other actors to get a holistic view of the teachers’ trainer capacities.

ABSTRACTObjective : High level of obedience in using insulin independently in patients with diabetes mellitus is influenced by a person's level of self-efficacy. Methods : This study aims to know the correlation between self-efficacy and obedience of independent insulin use in DM patients at Batu Baptis Hospital. The type of research used is quantitative research using descriptive correlative research design with a cross sectional approach. Sampling used is convenience sampling technique with 125 respondents. Data collection used the DMSES questionnaire (The Diabetes Management Self-efficacy Scale) for the MMAS-8 variable self-efficacy and questionnaire (Morisky Medication Adherence Scale) for compliance variables. The data analysis methods applied the Spearman Rank correlation test. Results : The results of the Spearman Rank test is obtained that p value is 0,000 (p <0.05) and the correlation coefficient value is 0.824. It shows that the strength of the correlation is strong with the direction of the positive correlation. It can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between self-efficacy and obedience of independent use of insulin in DM patients in Batu Baptist Hospital. Conclusion : The higher the self-efficacy in patients is, the higher the patient's compliance with insulin injections. The suggestion of this study it is expected that DM patients who use insulin can be more adherent to undergo treatment with insulin.

This study evaluates cross-sectional data from 9 years of the INTUIT: Work and Careers intervention ( N = 491), a program for female offenders in reentry. Of several measures used, participants showed increases on the five career decision-making self-efficacy factors assessed by the Career Decision Making Self-Efficacy Short Form ( CDMSE-SF), over the course of the intervention, whereas no changes were observed across the same testing period for the control group. When control and invention groups were compared, statistically significant differences were only seen for INTUIT participants in levels of self-appraisal and goal selection. Implications of these findings are addressed.
