In this work, ceria-based ceramics with the composition Gd0.14Pr0.06Ce0.8O2-δ and Sm0.14Pr0.06Ce0.8O2-δ, were synthesized by a simple co-precipitation process using either ammonium carbonate or ammonia solution as a precipitating agent. After the calcination, all of the produced samples were constituted by fluorite-structured ceria only, thus showing that both dopant and co-dopant cations were dissolved in the fluorite lattice. The ceria-based nanopowders were uniaxially compacted and consequently flash-sintered using different electrical cycles (including current-ramps). Different results were obtained as a function of both the adopted precipitating agent and the applied electrical cycle. In particular, highly densified products were obtained using current-ramps instead of “traditional” flash treatments (with the power source switching from voltage to current control at the flash event). Moreover, the powders that were synthesized using ammonia solution exhibited a low tendency to hotspot formation, whereas the materials obtained using carbonates as the precipitating agent were highly inhomogeneous. This points out for the first time the unexpected relevance of the precipitating agent (and of the powder shape/degree of agglomeration) for the flash sintering behavior.

Hydroxyapatite (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2, HAp), due to its high biocompatibility, is widely used as biomaterial. Doping with various ions of hydroxyapatite is performed to acquire properties as close as possible to the biological apatite present in bones and teeth. In this research the results of a study performed on thin films of hydroxyapatite co-doped with nitrogen and bromine (NBrHAp) are presented for the first time. The NBrHAp suspension was obtained by performing the adapted co-precipitation method using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The thin layers of NBrHAp were obtained by spin-coating. The stability of the NBrHAp suspension was examined by ultrasound measurements. The thin layers obtained by the spin-coating method were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), optical microscopy (OM), and metallographic microscopy (MM). The presence of nitrogen and bromine were highlighted by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) studies. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used to highlight the chemical status of nitrogen and bromine. In addition, the powder obtained from the NBrHAp suspension was analyzed by XRD. Moreover, the in vitro antimicrobial activity of the NBrHAp suspensions and coatings was investigated using the reference microbial strains Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, and Candida albicans ATCC 10231. The results highlighted the successful obtainment of N and Br co-doped hydroxyapatite suspension for the first time by an adapted co-precipitation method. The obtained suspension was used to produce pure NBrHAp composite thin films with superior morphological properties. The NBrHAp suspensions and coatings exhibited in vitro antimicrobial activity against bacterial and fungal strains and revealed their good antimicrobial activity.

This research is about nanoparticles hematite (NPH) synthesized and characterized from natural iron sands using co-precipitation method and its potential applications as extrinsic semiconductor materials type-N. The aims of this study is to determine the process parameters to obtain hematite of high purity degree and to observe its physical characteristics as an extrinsic semiconductor materials type-N. The iron sand was first separated by magnetic technique and then dissolved into HCl solution before conducting the precipitation process. Precipitation was done by dripping ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH). Precipitated powder was dried at 80°C for 2 hours, and then calcined at 500°C, 600°C 700°C for 2 hours respectively. The composition of iron sands, purity degree, hematite mineral grain size, and space group were analyzed by XRF, XRD, FTIR and SEM. The XRF analysis result of raw material, showed that dominant element and composition in the sample is Fe with purity degree is 90.51%. The XRD result before and after precipitation showed Fe3O4 and α-Fe2O3. Fe3O4 purity degree was obtained 85%, and α-Fe2O3 in NPH500, NPH600, NPH700 were 63%, 83%, and 76%, respectively. FTIR spectral showed crystalline hematite characteristics stong band of 472.07 to 559.62 cm-1. SEM image showed the morphology of agglomeration particulates, when the calcinaton temperature increases, the agglomeration will be seperated due to thermal energy. Based on the charaterization results it was found that the natural iron sand synthesized has the potential to be applied as an N-type extrinsic semiconductor material.

Abstract A series of pristine and nickel doped copper tellurates possessing a wide range of applications are studied here. Use of a simple wet chemical route that is co-precipitation method has been employed for the first time, which involves the formation of desired compounds at a relatively lower temperature, thus modifying their properties. All the prepared compounds are characterized and investigated by XRD, TG – DTA, XPS, SEM, TEM to examine their phase purity, thermal stability, chemical state, and microstructural properties. The electrical resistivity studies showed an insulator - semiconductor transition behavior. Magnetic studies revealed the paramagnetic nature of the material. Antiferromagnetic to paramagnetic transition was observed at T N ~ 60 K in case of Cu 2.7 Ni 0.3 TeO 6 sample. Thermoelectric studies indicated a change in conduction mechanism with temperature. Dielectric properties with respect to frequency showed an increase in dielectric parameters with increasing dopant content. Photoluminescence property has been studied and found to show emission in the visible region.

Abstract Lanthanum cerium ferrite nanoparticles has been synthesized for the first time via hydrothermal and co-precipitation method. The structural and morphological study of the nanoparticles have been examined by using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The electrochemical study of J1 and J2 electrodes have been examined using three electrode system in 6 M KOH electrolyte using cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charging-discharging (GCD) and electrochemical impendence spectroscopy (EIS). The highest specific capacitance of 1195 F/g has been obtained at a scan rate of 10 mV/s from hydrothermal synthesis nanomaterial electrode (J2) and long cycling life 92.3% retention after 2000th cycles. Furthermore, the energy density and power density of the J2 electrode at a current density of 5 A/g was 59 Wh/kg and 9234 W/kg respectively. Hence, the fabricated J2 electrode is a favorable candidate for super-capacitor applications.

Zirconia (ZrO2) is one of the refractory ceramic materials that have applications in several fields. The aim of this study was to synthesis ZrO2 from natural zircon sand collected from Kereng Pangi, Central Kalimantan with a variation of pH deposition using alkali fusion co-precipitation method. The synthesized ZrO2 began with the preparation process involved magnetic separation, milling, and leaching with HCl. Furthermore, the alkali fusion process was used KOH solution and heated in an electrical furnace at 700°C for 3 h whereas the co-precipitation process was carried out using a filtrate mixed with the NH4OH solution to reach a pH variation between 3–11 and then precipitated for 12 h. The precipitates were dried in an oven and then calcined at 800°C for 3 h. The structure of synthesized ZrO2 was characterized using XRD and the particle sizes were measured using particle size analyzer (PSA). The XRD analysis showed that the identified phase of zirconia powder is tetragonal with a crystal size in nanometer size. Result of PSA measurement revealed that the crystal size decreased in the range pH of 3 - 7, but increased in the range pH of 7 - 11. The biggest powder particle size could be achieved at 260 nm with pH 7 whereas the smallest size was at 143 nm occurred at pH 3.

Lousy odor is severe pollution in natural rubber processing industries and the air pollution treatment by using photocatalytic decomposition method has not much known. This study aims to explore the photocatalyst preparation and characterization of Fe doped ZnO immobilized on fiberglass cloth. Fe doped ZnO was prepared both with and without co-precipitation agent of NaOH. Both methods confirmed the metal existence and gave crystallite catalyst particles with mean diameters of 50 nm according to XRD characterization methods. SEM-EDS analysis showed Fe-ZnO particles prepared without co-precipitation were less aggregated particles than those made with the other method. EDS data identified the elemental composition of Zn, Fe, and O, and the fiberglass cloth composition, including Si and Mg. In the co-preparation method, sodium was always existed along with Fe and ZnO. DR-UV analysis showed the bandgap of Fe-ZnO was 3.20 and 3.22 eV without and with co-precipitation methods, respectively. TEM analysis of the catalyst slurry shows all particles were agglomerated in both preparations. Spherical-like particles existed non-precipitation method, and a spherical- and rod particle shapes were detected in co-precipitation preparation. The non-co-precipitation process was a preparable step in immobilization of the Fe-ZnO particles onto fiberglass cloth
