This paper reports a numerical approach for modelling the thermal behavior and heat accumulation/liberation of sustainable cementitious composites made with Recycled Brick Aggregates (RBAs) employed as carriers for Phase-Change Materials (PCMs). In the framework of the further development of the fixed grid modelling method, classically employed for solving the well-known Stefan problem, an enthalpy-based approach and an apparent calorific capacity method have been proposed and validated. More specifically, the results of an experimental program, following an advanced incorporation and immobilization technique, developed at the Institut für Werkstoffe im Bauwesen for investigating the thermal responses of various combinations of PCM-RBAs, have been considered as the benchmark to calibrate/validate the numerical results. Promising numerical results have been obtained, and temperature simulations showed good agreement with the experimental data of the analyzed mixtures.

The present study evaluates the bond behavior between steel bars and concrete by means of a numerical analysis based on Finite Element Method. Results of a previously conducted experimental program on reinforced concrete beams subjected to monotonic loading are also presented. Two concrete types, self-compacting concrete and ordinary concrete, were considered in the study. Non-linear constitutive relations were used to represent concrete and steel in the proposed numerical model, aiming to reproduce the bond behavior observed in the tests. Experimental analysis showed similar results for the bond resistances of self-compacting and ordinary concrete, with self-compacting concrete presenting a better performance in some cases. The results given by the numerical modeling showed a good agreement with the tests for both types of concrete, especially in the pre-peak branch of the load vs. slip and load vs. displacement curves. As a consequence, the proposed numerical model could be used to estimate a reliable development length, allowing a possible reduction of the structure costs.

The spatial problem of internal explosive loading of an elastoplastic cylindrical container filled with water in Eulerian - Lagrangian variables using multigrid algorithms is considered. A defining system of three-dimensional equations of the dynamics of gas, fluid, and elastoplastic medium is presented. For numerical modeling, a modification of S.K. Godunov scheme of the increased accuracy for both detonation products and liquids, and elastoplastic container is used. At the moving contact boundaries “detonation products - liquid”, “liquid - deformable body”, the exact solution of the Riemann's problem is used. A time dependent model is used to describe the propagation of steady-state detonation wave through an explosive from an initiation region. In both cases, the initiation of detonation occurs at the center of the charge. Two problems have been solved: the first task for the aisymmetric position of the charge, the second for the charge shifted relative to the axis of symmetry. In the first task, the processes are two-dimensional axisymmetric in nature, in the second task, the processes are essentially three-dimensional. A comparison is made of the results of calculations of the first problem using a three-dimensional method with a solution using a previously developed two-dimensional axisymmetric method and experimental data. Good agreement is observed between the numerical results for the maximum velocities and circumferential strains obtained by various methods and experimental data. There is good agreement between the numerical results obtained by various methods and the known experimental data. Comparison of the results of solving the first and second problems shows a significant effect of the position of the charge on the wave processes in the liquid, the processes of loading the container and its elastoplastic deformation. The dynamic behavior of a gas bubble with detonation products is analyzed. A significant deviation of the bubble shape from the spherical one, caused by the action of shock waves reflected from the structure, is shown. Comparison of the results of solving the first and second problems showed a significant effect of the charge position on wave processes in a liquid, the processes of loading a container and its elastoplastic deformation. In particular, in the second problem, shock waves of higher amplitude are observed in the liquid when reflected from the walls of the container.

A non-isentropic potential method on a S2 stream surface has been developed for the design and analysis of transonic compressors with shocks, in which the entropy increase across a shock may be directly calculated from the momentum equations in the divergence form. The numerical results show that the non-isentropic shock is weaker and placed one or two meches further upstream compared to the classical potential calculation, and is in good agreement with the experimental data.

An unified approximated solution for symmetric Skyrmions was proposed for the SU(2) Skyrme model for baryon numbers up to 8, which take the hybrid form of a kink-like solution and that given by the instanton method. The Skyrmion profiles are examined by computing lowest soliton energy as well as the static properties of nucleons within the framework of collective quantization, with a good agreement with the exact numerical results. The comparisons with the previous computations as well as the experimental data are also presented.

A model representing the response of fixed or rotating axial compressor blade-rows is coupled to a 3-D numerical simulation of the flow outside the blade rows. The code can be used to study nonuniform compressible 3-D flows through turbomachines. The fluid is assumed to be inviscid in the space outside the rows, while the viscous effects are taken into account inside. Numerical results are compared with experimental data obtained on a test stand with steady distorted inflow. This comparison shows that this numerical approach is capable of predicting the response of the compressor. This work is part of a larger project aimed at predicting the response of a compressor to a nonuniform inlet flow that is periodic in time, or fully unsteady.

Much effort has been devoted to studying the blast properties of masonry infilled panels due to recent increasing accidental blast events. In this paper, the blast properties of the masonry infilled walls were analyzed with the finite element program LS-DYNA by the way of distinctive consideration of the bricks and mortar material in contrast to the experimental data. The numerical results have a good agreement with experimental data. The reliability and efficiency of this method in predicting the dynamic responses of masonry walls to blast loads was proven.

An approach identifying the excitation forces based on structural vibrations measured is proposed in the paper. Based on the transfer matrix predicted by FEM/BEM and the vibration vector measured, excitation forces in frequency domain are identified. Further more, acoustic from the underwater structure is predicted by FEM/BEM. To verify the approach, experiment on was carried out for a shaker driven underwater immerged cylindrical model made of steel. Excitations are identified by accelerations measured on the shell. With the forces provided, the radiation of the shell is predicted and compared with that measured. The numerical results are shown to be in good agreement with experimental data.

The purpose of this paper is to provide a rational analytical means for predicting the performance of a muskeg deposit under loading. The analytical model employs the finite-element technique, which is extended to take into consideration the unusual constitutive behavior of the fibrous organic materials as well as the tension cut developing in these materials. The solution obtained using this model provides detailed stress and deformation fields within the loaded muskeg deposit. The applicability of the proposed analytical model is verified by conducting an appropriate experimental program. The results obtained from the model are found to be in good agreement with the experimental data. Key words: muskeg, loading, modelling, anisotropic, finite element, tension, compression.

In the present work, an innovative numerical approach was developed coupling two models in order to simulate the wave propagation over a sloping beach and the sediment transport in surf and swash zones. The first model, synthesized on the basis of OpenFOAM (version 2.4.0) is used to describe the hydrodynamic characteristics of the flow and the wave propagation while the second one is applied for the sediment transport and erosion/deposition prediction using the results of the first model. The method above constitutes an iterative procedure which is tested hereby and seems to yield satisfactory numerical results in comparison with experimental data (Dette 1998).

We discuss production of Drell-Yan lepton pairs at hadron colliders in the framework of the parton Reggeization approach, which includes off-shell initial state effects in a gauge-invariant way. We have compared our numerical results for qT -spectra of the lepton pair with the experimental data, obtained by E-288 collaboration ($\rad{}{S} = 19.4$ and 23.8 GeV) and found a good agreement. We have also made predictions for the Drell-Yan structure functions at NICA pp-collider ($\rad{}{S} = 24\,{\rm{GeV}}$).
