Phycobiliproteins are gaining popularity as long-term, high-value natural products which can be alternatives to synthetic products. This study analyzed research trends of phycobiliproteins from 1909 to 2020 using a bibliometric approach based on the Scopus database. The current findings showed that phycobiliprotein is a burgeoning field in terms of publications outputs with “biochemistry, genetics, and molecular biology” as the most related and focused subject. The Journal of Applied Phycology was the most productive journal in publishing articles on phycobiliproteins. Although the United States of America (U.S.A.) contributed the most publications on phycobiliproteins, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (China) is the institution with the largest number of publications. The most productive author on phycobiliproteins was Glazer, Alexander N. (U.S.A.). The U.S.A. and Germany were at the forefront of international collaboration in this field. According to the keyword analysis, the most explored theme was the optimization of microalgae culture parameters and phycobiliproteins extraction methods. The bioactivity properties and extraction of phycobiliproteins were identified as future research priorities. Synechococcus and Arthrospira were the most cited genera. This study serves as an initial step in fortifying the phycobiliproteins market, which is expected to exponentially expand in the future. Moreover, further research and global collaboration are necessary to commercialize phycobiliproteins and increase the consumer acceptability of the pigments and their products.

BACKGROUND Smartphones have become an integral part of our lives with their unprecedented popularity and diversification of applications. The continuous upgrading of information technology has also enabled smartphones to display great potential in the field of healthcare. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to clarify the future research direction of mHealth by analyzing its research trends and latest research hotspots. METHODS This study collected mHealth-related literature published between 2000 and 2020 from the Web of Science database. Descriptive statistics of the literature were computed using Excel software. The publication trends of mHealth research were determined by analyzing the annual number of publications in the literature and annual number of publications categorized based on different countries. Finally, this study used the VOSviewer tool to construct visualization network maps of country/region collaborations and author keyword co-occurrences, and overlay visualization maps of the average publication year of author keywords to analyze the hotspots and research trends in mHealth research. RESULTS In this study, 12,593 mHealth-related research articles published between 2000 and 2020 were collected. The results showed an exponential growth trend in the number of annual publications in mHealth literature. The United States remained the leading contributor to the literature in this area (5,294/12,593, 42%), well ahead of other countries/regions. Other countries/regions also showed a clear trend of annual increases in the number of publications in mHealth literature. Regarding cooperation between countries, the four countries with the largest number of publications, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, were found to cooperate more closely. The rest of the countries/regions showed a clear geographical pattern of cooperation. The keyword co-occurrence analysis of the top 100 authors formed five clusters, namely: development of mHealth medical technology and its application in various diseases, use of mHealth technology to improve basic public health and health policy, mHealth self-health testing and management in daily life, adolescent use of mHealth, and mHealth in mental health. The research trends revealed a gradual shift in mHealth research from health policy and improving public healthcare to the development and social application of mHealth technologies. CONCLUSIONS To the best of our knowledge, the most current bibliometric analysis dates back to 2016. However, the number of mHealth researches published between 2017 and 2020 exceeds the previous total. Therefore, the results of this study shed light on the latest research hotspots and research trends in mHealth research. These findings provide a useful overview of the development of the field; they may also serve as a valuable reference and provide guidance for other researchers in the field.

BACKGROUND Digital health is growing at a rapid pace, and digital health literacy has tremendous potential to promote health outcomes, bridge the digital divide, and improve health inequalities. OBJECTIVE The purposes of this study are to conduct a systematic bibliometric analysis on the field of dig-ital health literacy and to understand the research context and trends in this field. METHODS A total of 1,955 scientific publications were collected from the Web of Science (WoS) core col-lection. Institutional cooperation, journal co-citation, theme bursting, keyword co-occurrence, author cooperation, author co-citation, literature co-citation and references in the field of digi-tal health literacy were analyzed using the VOSviewer and CiteSpace knowledge mapping tools. RESULTS The results demonstrated that the United States was the leader in number of publications and citations in this field. The University of California System was first in terms of institutional contributions. The Journal of Medical Internet Research led in number of publications, cita-tions and co-citations. Research areas in the field of digital health literacy mainly include the definition and scale of health literacy, health literacy and health outcomes, health literacy and the digital divide, and the influencing factors of health literacy. CONCLUSIONS We summarize research progress in the field of digital health literacy and reveal the context, trends, and trending topics of digital health literacy research through statistical analysis and network visualization. Our work can serve as a fundamental reference and directional guide for future research in this field.

Objectives: A bibliometric approach using network analysis was applied to identify the development and research trends for moxibustion. This study also examined the network hub of moxibustion research by investigating the collaborative work of organizations and authors. Methods: Academic articles on moxibustion research published from 2000 to 2019 were retrieved from the Web of Science database. Extracted records were analyzed according to publication year, research area, journal title, country, organization, and authors. The VOSviewer program was utilized to visualize the trends in moxibustion research and to explore the influential organizations and authors. Results: Analyses of 1146 original and review articles written in English demonstrated that the number of publications related to moxibustion research has increased consistently over the last 20 years. China issued the most articles in this field, and the most represented research area was integrative complementary medicine. A network analysis based on the co-occurrence and publication year of keywords identified the relevant characteristics and trends of moxibustion research. By assessing the total link strength of organizations and authors, influential organizations and authors who have contributed to moxibustion research were identified. Conclusions: The current study examined research on moxibustion using bibliometric analysis and identified a time-based development of moxibustion research and a global network hub of moxibustion research.

Introduction: The outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an ongoing global epidemic incident. The present study aims to bibliometrically analyze the global research trends of scientific papers related to COVID-19 with regard to the number of publications, subject categories, and prolific countries. A total of 47,061 publications, published during the last seven months, were collected and analyzed in this study. Methods: The bibliometric data in this study, which was extracted from the LitCovid Hub from January 17 to July 31, 2020. Results: Our results indicate that the number of publications on COVID-19 has increased significantly from January to July 2020, along with the rapid spread of the infection. China has produced the largest number of research papers on COVID-19 (5,751 articles, accounting for 12.2%), followed by the USA (2,005 publications, accounting for 4.3%) and Italy (1,374 publications, accounting for 2.9%). Most recent research papers have focused on prevention, treatment, and diagnosis. Our results reveal that although the most affected countries are the USA, Brazil, India, and many countries in Europe, their contribution to research about COVID-19 has been limited. Conclusion: More research in the field of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment from highly affected countries is recommended. Overall, this study not only provides a global status update on COVID-19 scientific literature but also contributes to future research.

Abstract Many exploited fish and invertebrate species use coastal habitats during one or more life-history stages as spawning, feeding, and nursery areas; yet, the value of these habitats has not been adequately characterized. As habitat availability can be a bottleneck for many populations, concerns about habitat effects on exploited species have been increasing. We have compiled nine articles presenting the state of knowledge and future research priorities regarding the importance of habitat for exploited species. Reviews from European habitats and several geographical locations throughout the United States demonstrate the influence of coastal habitats on survival, growth, and movement, especially during the early life-history stages, in a wide variety of species, spatial scales, and habitats. Moreover, many of these species contribute substantially to commercial landings, highlighting the importance of coastal habitats to population persistence and fishery yields. Management of fishery species can also be enhanced through modelling efforts incorporating habitat. Finally, there is a need for more effort in quantifying population demographics rates, creating comprehensive habitat maps, and developing better census techniques for complex hard bottom habitats; thus, future work is needed on the value of coastal habitats for exploited species.

Objective ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) management has evolved substantially over the last two decades. We sought to characterize AAV treatment patterns in the United States. Methods We identified AAV patients in the Rheumatology Informatics System for Effectiveness (RISE) registry who had at least two rheumatology clinician visits between January 1st, 2015 and December 31st, 2017. Demographics, medications, laboratory test results, and billing codes were extracted from the medical record. Demographic and prescription trends were assessed overall and across US regions. Results We identified 1,462 AAV patients, 259 (18%) with new or relapsing AAV. The majority were classified as having granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA, 75%). The mean age was 59.8 years and 59% were female. The majority of patients were in the South (45%) followed by the Mid-West (32%), West (12%), and Northeast (8%). Patients had a median of 3 visits and follow-up of 579 days. The most commonly prescribed medications during the study period were glucocorticoids (86%) followed by rituximab (45%), methotrexate (33%), azathioprine (32%) and mycophenolate mofetil (18%); cyclophosphamide was rarely used (97, 7%). At the most recent visits in RISE, 47% of patients were on glucocorticoids. Prescription trends were similar across regions. Conclusion This is the first study to evaluate the demographics and management of AAV by rheumatologists outside of major referral centers. Management strategies vary widely but cyclophosphamide is rarely used. These observations can be used to inform future research priorities. Additional studies are needed to characterize AAV severity in RISE and patient and provider treatment preferences.

Depression is one of the common mental illnesses. Because it is an important complication of diabetes, its association with changes in insulin levels and insulin resistance, the causative factors of diabetes, has attracted widespread attention. However, the association between insulin and depression has not been systematically studied through bibliometric and visual analysis. This study is based on 3131 publications of Web of Science to identify the current research status and research trends in this field. The results show that since 2010, the number of publications has been growing rapidly. Cooperative network analysis shows that the United States, the University of Toronto and Roger S Mcintyre are the most influential countries, research institutes and scholars, respectively. Insulin resistance, obesity, and metabolic syndrome are hot topics in this field. Analysis of keywords and references reveals that “sex hormones,” is new research area that constantly emerging. As far as we know, this study is the first one to visualize the association between depression and insulin and predict potential future research trends through bibliometric and visual analysis.

Background: The purpose of this study is to broaden the understanding of peritoneal dialysis by presenting the most-cited articles pertaining to this subject. Methods: We searched articles on the Web of Science and selected 100 articles according to the frequency of citations. Next, we reviewed the contents of the articles and identified the characteristics of these articles. Results: There are 21 journals in which the top-100 cited articles were published. The names of the journals, in the order in which the articles are cited, are as follows: Kidney International (25 articles), Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation (13 articles), and Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (12 articles). The top 100-cited articles were published in 15 countries. The country with the greatest number of publications was the United States of America (19 articles). The institution with the greatest number of articles (7 articles) was the University Health Network of Toronto. The author who wrote the most number of articles (5 articles) was Davies SJ. Conclusion: This study is the first in the field of nephrology to provide a list of the top-100 cited articles dedicated to peritoneal dialysis. Through this study, the research trends and major academic interests pertaining to peritoneal dialysis would be identified.

Abstract Background: Nerve block is used as a clinical technique for relieving pain during the surgical period as well as in postoperative analgesia and chronic pain. Although great progress has been recently made regarding nerve block techniques, there is still room for further medical and technical improvement. Here, we analysed the trends in nerve block research and compared contributions from different countries, institutions, journals, and authors. Methods: We extracted all studies concerning nerve block published between 1997 and 2021 from the Web of Science database. Microsoft Excel and VOSviewer were employed to collect publication data, analyse publication trends, and visualize relevant results. Results: A total of 6,437 publications with 111,612 citations were identified between 1997 and 2021. The United States contributed the greatest number of publications (2010), whereas China ranked second (518). The Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine journal had published the most papers concerning nerve block. Harvard University and Mariano ER were the most productive institution and author, respectively, in the field. Keywords were categorized into five clusters: the association between nerve block and anaesthesia or analgesia, local anaesthetic drugs for nerve block, nerve block techniques, nerve block for postoperative analgesia, and nerve block for oral local anaesthesia. Management-related research was a heavily researched topic in the field. Conclusions: We concluded that the United States contributed the most studies, and developing countries, led by China, are also encouraging study in this area. The exploration of new drugs in the fields of nerve block, multi-modal analgesia after surgery, treatment of chronic pain, analgesia for thoracic and abdominal surgeries, and analgesic interventions in oral therapy is considered as a potential focus for future research.

Florida is the most important center of processed citrus (Citrus spp.) production in the United States, and all of the crop is irrigated. Irrigation systems include low-volume microirrigation, sprinkler systems, and subsurface irrigation. This review details the relative irrigation efficiencies and factors affecting irrigation uniformity such as design and maintenance. A wide range of soil moisture sensors (e.g., tensiometers, granular matrix, and capacitance) are currently being used for citrus in the state. The use of these sensors and crop evapotranspiration estimation using weather information from the Florida Automated Weather Network in irrigation scheduling are discussed. Current examples of scheduling tools and automated control systems being used on selected fruit crops in Florida are provided. Research data on the effect of irrigation scheduling, soluble fertilizer injection, and soil nutrient movement, particularly nitrate and the use of reclaimed water in Florida, are also reviewed. Concluding this review is a discussion of the potential for adoption of irrigation scheduling and control systems for citrus by Florida growers and future research priorities.
