Yellow (stripe) rust, caused by Puccinia striiformis Westend. (Pst), is a major disease of cereals worldwide. We studied Pst virulence phenotypes on Triticum aestivum, Triticum durum, and triticale in three geographically distant regions of the European part of Russia (Dagestan and Krasnodar in North Caucasus, and Northwest) with different climate and environmental conditions. Based on the set of twenty differential lines, a relatively high level of population diversity was determined with 67 different Pst pathotypes identified among 141 isolates. Only seven pathotypes were shared by at least two hosts or occurred in the different regions. No significant differentiation was found between regional Pst collections of pathotypes either from T. aestivum or from T. durum. A set of Pst pathotypes from triticale was subdivided into two groups. One of them was indistinguishable from most durum and common wheat pathotypes, whereas the second group differed greatly from all other pathotypes. All sampled Pst isolates were avirulent on lines with Yr5, Yr10, Yr15, and Yr24 genes. Significant variation in virulence frequency among all Pst collections was observed on lines containing Yr1, Yr3, Yr17, Yr27, and YrSp genes and cvs Strubes Dickkopf, Carstens V, and Nord Desprez. Relationships between Russian regional collections of Pst from wheat did not conform to those for P. triticina.

Thirty-one lichen-forming fungi, 12 lichenicolous fungi, and 5 non-lichenized fungi are reported as new for Arkhangelsk Region; 7 species are new for its mainland area. Micarea fallax is reported for the first time for Russia; M. laeta and M. pusilla are new for the European part of Russia. The second finding of Nicropuncta rugulosa for Russia is recorded; microconidia are first observed in this species. The records of ten species which have been included in the new edition of the Red Data Book of the Arkhangelsk Region (2020) are presented. Nephromopsis laureri from the Red Data Book of the Russian Federation (2008) and Leptogium rivulare from the IUCN Red List are reported for the first time for Arkhangelsk Region.

New data on 22 species of bees of the family Megachilidae from the North Caucasus and the south of European Russia are reported. Six species are new to Russia: Hoplitis curvipes (Morawitz, 1871), Osmia cinerea Warncke, 1988, O. ligurica Morawitz, 1868, O. cyanoxantha Pérez, 1879, Protosmia glutinosa (Giraud, 1871), and Coelioxys mielbergi Morawitz, 1880. Hoplitis turcestanica (Dalla Torre, 1896), sp. resurr. is treated as a distinct species, not a junior synonym of H. caularis (Morawitz, 1875). Megachile albocristata Smith, 1853 and M. alborufa Friese, 1911 are listed instead of previously recorded M. lefebvrei (Lepeletier de Saint-Fargeau, 1841) and M. pyrenaica (Lepeletier de Saint-Fargeau, 1841), respectively. Fourteen new regional records are reported: seven species are new to the North Caucasus, five ones are new to the south of European Russia, and two species are new to the European part of Russia as a whole. The numbers of megachilid bee species currently known in Russia, the North Caucasus, and the south of European Russia are 217, 130, and 71, respectively. The lectotype of Osmia proxima Morawitz, 1875 is designated.

The phenotypic composition of the North Caucasian population of wheat leaf rust pathogen (Puccinia triticina Erikks.) in various agro-climatic zones of the region in 2016-2018 is analyzed. 233 single pustule isolates were studied, of which 212 virulence phenotypes were identified. In all the years of research, a high level of population diversity was established (the Shannon index (Sh) was 0.92-0.99). The dominant phenotype in 2016 was the PHRS phenotype, which was identified in the southern foothill, western Azov and eastern steppe agro-climatic zones. In the population of 2016, phenotypes with a high and medium number of virulence genes prevailed. In 2017, the most represented are the phenotypes of DCRL, LBLL (Western Azov zone) and PCQB (Northern zone). Avirulent phenotype BBBB was common for populations of 20162018. In 2016, a phenotype with virulence to Lr9 (TLGS) was first detected. In 2017 and 2018, phenotypes virulent to the Lr24 gene (PKTT, SFGQ, CFPQ, TKTS, MKTT, LKSR) were detected in the populations of the fungus. A high level of population differences in phenotypic composition between the years of research was established (Rogers index (R) was 0.96 -0.99).

Meadow fescue is one of the best grasses for forage production in most of Russia, being inferior in productivity to pasture ryegrass in the country's reserve; it is much superior to it in other regions in terms of longevity, sea resistance and drought resistance. This species is also less affected by fungal diseases, grows well in herb mixtures with both clover and alfalfa or with other legumes and cereals. The new variety "VIK-5-34" is intended for cultivation on high agricultural grounds in farms with a high level of agriculture. The variety can be used both for foraging and for creating pastures.

В статье даны название и описание новой для науки формы жимолости чёрной – Lonicera nigra L. f. purpurea A.V. Byalt & V.V. Byalt f. nova. (Caprifoliaceae), обнаруженной в окрестностях поселка Приветнинское Ленинградской области. Растение имеет характерные пурпурные листья. Приведена информация о месте произрастания, отличии новой формы от близких таксонов (составлен латинский диагноз), указаны типовые образцы (голотип и изотип) и место их хранения (Гербарий БИН РАН – LE). Декоративность новой формы позволяет рекомендовать её для озеленения в культуре в г. Санкт-Петербурге и других городах Северо-Запада Европейской части России, как и сам вид, хорошо адаптировавшийся в регионе. Статья иллюстрирована 3 фотографиями и картой. In the article a new for science form of black honeysuckle – Lonicera nigra L. f. purpurea A.V. Byalt & V.V. Byalt f. nova (Caprifoliaceae) was found in the vicinity of the village Privetninskoye, Leningrad region, it differs by very characteristic purple leaves. Information is given on the place of growth, the difference between a new form from close taxa (Latin diagnosis is given) and the type specimens (holotype and isotype) and their storage sites are indicated. The decorativeness of the new form allows us to recommend it for gardening in culture in St. Petersburg and other cities of the North-West of the European part of Russia, as well as the species itself, which is well adapted in the region. The article is illustrated with 3 photos and a map.

The paper presents the results of the demographic processes analyses study in the South of European part of Russia in comparison with national outcomes. The research is based on a GIS monitoring concept and reveals the main characteristics of population size dynamic pattern with the influence of prevailing reproduction processes. The main sources of data are the office for national statistics and various regional statistics sources. ESRI ArcGIS Spatial Analyst software platform is used as a primary analytical framework. The study case covers the time frame from 1959 to 2018. Developing map models of the population’s natural reproduction brings out the depopulation speed and direction as a primary trend in Russia’s demographic development. At the beginning of the XXI century’s third decade, there is a significant reduction in the number of regions with positive natural population growth. The regions with decreasing in population have prevailed. The positive natural population growth preserves mainly in national territorial subdivisions with an unfinished demographic transition. The demographic picture in the south of European part of Russia looks relatively propitious. Negative demographic trends arise with a delay and have not reached the critical levels yet. The obvious polarization of demographic space in the south of Russia has educed — there are two areas with unequal trends of population growth: South-East area with a sustainable increase in the population and a migration outflow, the North-West area with a natural decline in the population and an erratic positive migration balance. Though the area with a sustainable increase in the population is reducing, showing positive trends in Krasnodar Krai and Republic of Adygea. The ethnic republic’s migration outflow is stable.

This research is devoted to archaeological science and education in Siberia at the end of the 19th century – the first third of the 20th century. The purpose of the article is to analyse the development of Siberian archaeology at the turn of the epochs when high-level professionals first appeared in the region running away from the Bolsheviks from the European part of Russia and evacuated by A.V. Kolchak from Kazan and Perm universities. The reasons for the intensification of archaeological activity in Siberia in 1918–1926 were identified recreating an integral picture of its development. Particular attention is paid to identifying the specifics of the process of training researchers of antiquities at Tomsk and Irkutsk universities. Tomsk University, on the initiative of Professor S.I. Rudenko and lecturer S.A. Teploukhov, provided individual training of paleoethnologists as part of the natural science cycle of disciplines, while Irkutsk University established the first archaeological school in Siberia. The modernisation of higher education in the first years of the Soviet power led to the destruction of emerging historical education at Siberian universities and to the termination of archaeologists’ training as a result

As many as 52 families having patients with mucoviscidosis (2 : 100000 inhabitants) live in the Saratov region. The molecular and genetic examination was performed in 38 children. 52,6% of chromosomes in patients with mucoviscidosis carry the mutation del F508, 47,4% of chromosomes carry other mutations. 28,9% of them have homoxygotes, 47,4% have homozygomes by the mutation del F508, and 23,7% of patients with both rare or unknown mutations. The mixed mucoviscidosis form is revealed in 92,1% of children, the pulmonary one is revealed in 5,3% of children and the enteric one is revealed in 2,6% of children. It is shown that the incidence of mucoviscidosis corresponds to the assumed incidence for the European part of Russia: the level of chromosomes carrying the mutation del F508 is lower than in the countries of west Europe but higher than in the south of Europe and in the north-west of Russia.

<p>The study presents an approach to automatic river hydrograph separation and analysis implemented in GrWat open source package for R programming language. In the proposed scheme of hydrograph separation, river hydrograph is separated into base and quick flow. For plain rivers quick flow is further separated into seasonal snowmelt flood quick flow; rain quick flow and thaw quick flow. For mountainous rivers seasonal snowmelt flood quick flow component is divided into “basic snowmelt flood” component and overlapping rain floods. Base and quick runoff is separated by a critical gradient. Flash-floods are separated from the seasonal snowmelt wave by critical values of air temperature and precipitation on the event for the plain rivers and using a critical gradient concept for mountainous rivers. More than 30 characteristics of river runoff regime are calculated for each water resource year: characteristics of annual and seasonal runoff, contribution of each genetic component, characteristics of maximum runoff, n-day minimum discharges and dates when they are observed. Additionally, more than 50 characteristics of each flash-flood are calculated:  characteristics of shape, volume, timing of flash-floods, the values of meteorological parameters that bring about different types of floods. The presented approach to automatic river hydrograph separation and analysis was tested on 45 plain rivers in the European part of Russia in different climatic zones and on 10 mountainous rivers in the North Caucasus. The result of application provides a possibility for analyzing previously unstudied characteristics of river runoff regime and its climate-related transformation on the European part of Russia.</p><p>The study was supported by the Russian Science Foundation grant No. 19-77-10032</p>

The Evaniidae from the Russian fauna is reviewed. Three ensign or hatchet wasp genera and species occur only in the European part of Russia (West of Urals Mountains): Brachygaster minutus (Olivier, 1791), Evania dimidiata Spinola, 1838, and Prosevania fuscipes (Illiger, 1807). Species were also recorded in the following countries for the first time: B. minutus in Abkhazia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and in the numerous localities of the European part of Russia; Evania dimidiata in North Caucasus of Russia (Dagestan); Prosevania fuscipes in Abkhazia. A new species with distinct sexual dimorphism, Brachygaster gussakovskiji sp. nov., is described from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
