This study attempts to develop a measurement model of competitiveness utilized in the tourism sector, which appears to be fundamentally different in nature from traditional goods and services. Tourism destination competitiveness reflecting the generic characteristics should be considered diversified to notice the distinctive perspective between the business environment and competitive advantages. Criticism of some prior conventional literature stems from the lack of a rigorous process to find the structure and attributes of the measurement items for a destination’s business environment and competitive advantages. The available theoretical framework and measures containing the destination business environment and competitive advantages warrant further investigation. The vital dimensions of the destination business environment (i.e., dynamism, hostility, turbulence, investment, information technology, and governance) and destination competitive advantages (i.e., defensiveness, local acceptance, accessibility, reasonability, uniqueness, supportiveness, and image sustainability) were successfully identified through quantitative and empirical analysis, which could provide a significant basis for managerial and policy decisions in the tourism industry.

Marine based tourism has emerged as a subject of concern in the area of ocean and coastal management. Today, demand for marine tourism has increased dramatically and is highlighted as one of the new horizons and fastest-growing sectors in the world’s tourism industry. Malaysia is indeed one of the countries with the most beautiful and diversified marine life. The fundamental purpose of this study is to examine the satisfaction of tourists towards the service quality of marine tourism in Malaysia. The development of the research framework is based on the SERVQUAL model. A total of 300 responses were received from the Klang Valley area of Malaysia. For the purpose of processing and analyzing the data, Partial Least Square (PLS-SEM) method was employed. By applying a two-step approach, the study assesses the measurement model and the structural model. Findings from the survey reveal that assurance, tangibility, empathy, reliability, and responsiveness have a significant positive relationship with customer satisfaction thus these factors describe the customer satisfaction adequately. This study would enable policymakers and tourism companies to develop policies to improve customer satisfaction by increasing the quality of service.

The study investigated the strength of showcasing Zimbabwe tourism destination offerings at international platforms to its tourism brand performance. This was mainly based on the fact that the Zimbabwe tourism destination authorities are investing more in selling the country’s tourism brand at international platforms but not gaining a huge mileage in positioning the brand. The study employed a mixed methods research design combing both quantitative and qualitative approaches in extracting data from respondents. An in-depth interview was employed first as a qualitative technique in order to find the most common showcasing platforms from Zimbabwe tourism brand. This was done to senior managers and experts in the Zimbabwe tourism industry. Their responses revealed the platforms as carnivals, road shows, indabas, regional magazines and international interactive websites. A quantitative research was therefore done using survey questionnaires that were distributed to foreigners and local in order to assess the most dominant platform for positioning Zimbabwe’s tourism brand. The results show that indabas are the most effective platforms to brand Zimbabwe tourism brand. This is followed by international interactive websites and regional magazines. The research recommended that internationlising brand showcasing does not yield more on its own. There is a need to start with intensive local acceptance then go regional and international.

This research is conducted due to the existence of new tourism destinations in Surabaya, such as Taman Cahaya, Taman Harmoni and Mangrove Gunung Anyar. The existence of the tourism destinations above gives positive impacts on the community to participate in providing the tourism industry through tourism microentrepreneurship. The objective of this research is to explore the challenges from microentrepreneurship in running the business as a new tourism destination. The method used in this research is qualitative research method with descriptive approach. According to the research results, it is concluded that a new tourism is able to create new opportunities to the community to start a new business with the ideas that the development of tourism will result to more visitors and more money spent by them in the tourism destination. This shows that tourism sector is able to increase the opportunities in starting and developing their own business. The challenges in running microentrepreneurship in tourism areas are influenced by various factors, such as lack of awareness in learning and developing the knowledge with regards to the current business and the business products have not been partnering with online transportation companies in their products development. In Mangrove area, the management of the business vendors seems not well-managed as it can be seen from the absence of food corner and stalls, instead, street vendors are dominating the area. This issue is caused by the lack of financial as well as service supports both from the government and private sectors. The tourism development is considered as the best solution in the tourism area in order to accommodate the tourist needs. As a result, more tourists will visit the area and it will enable the community around the area to increase their economic level. The supports from government and private sectors are also needed to educate microentrepreneurship in developing and promote their products widely.

Recent economy and financial business environment is undergoing a quick and accelerating revolution and paradigm shift, resulting in growing uncertainty and complexity. Therefore, the need for an all-inclusive and far-reaching performance measurement model is universally felt as it can provide management-oriented information and act as a supporting tool in developing, inspecting, and interpreting policy-making strategies of an enterprise to achieve competitive advantages. Hence, this paper proposes an application of the balanced scorecard (BSC) model in an insurance organization for coordinating and regulating its corporate vision, mission, and strategy with organizational performance through the interrelation of different layers of business perspectives. In the next stage, a framework to unify both BSC and best-worst method (BWM) models is implemented for the very first time in the insurance domain to assess its performance over two-time periods. The integrated BSC-BWM model can help managers and decision-makers to figure out and interpret competing strength of the said enterprise and consecutively expedite inefficient and compelling decision making. Nevertheless, this integrated model is embraced and selected for a certain categorical business and there is enough future scope for its application to distinct industries.

The paper looks at the relationship between the performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the tourism sector of Uganda and firm characteristics and business environment. Data were gathered after administering questionnaires to 1690 SMEs located around tourist attractions throughout the country in 2018. The study uses quantile regression to analyze the determinants of firm performance. The findings indicate that entrepreneur/managers education, business experience, initial capital, business registration and age of the owner are important in explaining enterprise performance. We also find that male managed enterprises outperform those managed by female. The study suggests that providing easy access to credit for initial capital and easing the business registration process and training entrepreneurs/managers will increase performance of SMEs in the tourism industry.

The goals of Russian Federation state program "The development of fishery complex" # 314 approved by RF Government Decree on April 15, 2014 # 314, include the transition to an innovative type of industrial production the provision of global competitiveness for goods and services produced by the Russian fishery complex. However, a number of problems that exist in the fishing industry of Russian Federation hinder the achievement of the set tasks: the deterioration of the basic production assets, the shortage of efficient cooling capacities for storage, a high level of raw and shadow exports, an unfavorable financial situation for industrial organizations, and an imperfect regulatory and legislative base. These circumstances necessitate the resumption of integration processes, the search for new interaction forms and methods in the fishing industry. The aim of the study, the results of which are reflected in the article, is a quantitative assessment of the factors which contribute to and impede the development of the fishing industry cluster in Primorsky Krai on the basis of the technique application previously developed by the authors. The theoretical basis of the study is the model of M. Porter’s national competitive advantages "rhombus", the critical analysis of which allowed the authors to propose the division of production factors into basic resource and infrastructural ones, which is especially important for the Russian business environment. This transformation served as the basis for the developed methodology, which includes an integral indicator of clustering factor development. The analysis of each of its components on the developed scale allows to identify the degree of cluster initiative implementation, as well as to determine the most effective support measures based on the competitive advantages of the fishing cluster. The determination of the competitive advantages of clusters is carried out by the method of focus group conduct among the experts, and their quantitative assessment is carried out using the questionnaire method, which gives the assessment of the implementation and importance. The developed methodology can be used to develop normative and strategic programs for the creation and the functioning of industrial clusters, the development of which corresponds to the implementation of import substitution processes and the transition of Russia to an innovative type of development.
