Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) have been known about since ancient times. Today, however, STDs are on the rise in young people around the world. Interventions and sex education are being utilized in attempt to prevent STD spread in individuals who are the greatest risk of infection. Young people should be provided with easy and accessible health services. There should be anonymity as well as investigations into the reasoning behind unsafe behavior.

<p>In Indonesia discussing sex is a taboo subject to talk about. Many families, educational institutions, even the government is very minimal or even does not<br />provide education about sex in early age to childrens and adolescents, so it cannot be denied that the lack of sex education causes many cases of women who become pregnant out of wedlock and also more people who contract sexually transmitted diseases.<br />So in this writing the author examines the procurement of condom vending machines in the college environment that not only releases condoms but also some issues articles of various laws and regulations related to the aim of providing education about healthy and safe sex and giving reminders to young people about the consequences that will be faced if someone has sex outside of marriage. The method used in this writing is empirical juridical where the writer sees the reality and the facts that exist and integrates with the applicable legal norms. The results of this study that there are still many young people who ignore the importance of using condoms to prevent sexually transmitted diseases and consider sex education as a taboo even in educational institutions</p>

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) affect mainly young individuals and cause health, social, and economic problems worldwide. The present study used a web questionnaire to assess the awareness, knowledge, sexual behaviors, and common practices regarding STDs in young Greek adults. The 1,833 individuals, aged 18–30 years, who responded to the study seem to be particularly knowledgeable regarding STDs such as AIDS (97.7%), warts (97%), Chlamydia (92.2%), genital herpes (89.9%), syphilis (81.9%), and gonorrhea (72.1%), whereas lower percentages were noted for trichomoniasis (39.3%), Molluscum contagiosum (12.9%), mycoplasmosis (11.6%), and amoebiasis (7.4%). Regarding oral STD transmission, participants replied correctly for genital herpes (45%), warts (35.8%), and AIDS (HIV; 33.8%), whereas 30.2% were unfamiliar with oral sexual transmission. Of the participants, 52% were not aware that STDs might cause infertility. Only 40.4% of the respondents reported always using condoms during sexual intercourse, and 48.6% had never been tested for STDs. The majority of the young population (55%) presented a moderate knowledge STD score (41–60%) and was associated with demographic parameters such as age, gender, sexual preference, number of sexual partners, and residence (p < 0.05). These findings provide important information regarding the prevention of STDs and highlight the significance of developing more effective sex education programs for young people in Greece.

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs), often known as sexually transmitteddiseases, are still a major public health concern across the world. According to WHO estimates, sexually transmitted diseases (STIs) have an annual incidence of 357 million cases among which chlamydia (131 million), gonorrhoea (78 million), syphilis (5.6 million) and trichomoniasis (143 million), half of those among young people aged 15—24. Every day, almost one million people worldwide develop an STI, and the majority of them are ignorant of their infection status, making them a source of infection for others. The frequency and consequences of this on the health and socioeconomic condition of whole nations, particularly African countries, have long been regarded as a serious emergency. The epidemiology of STIs, the history and physical findings, screening standards, and the overall approach to combat STIs are all covered in this article. Infections covered in terms of causation, epidemiology, and risk factors include gonorrhea, Chlamydia trachomatis, Trichomonas vaginalis, syphilis and trichomoniasis. For a variety of reasons, the worldwide illness burden represented by STI remains unclear. First, many STIs are asymptomatic; second, diagnostic procedures are unavailable in some of the most affected nations; and finally, surveillance systems are non-existent or very poor in many parts of the world. According to the World Health Organization, there were 340 million new cases of syphilis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia infection, and trichomoniasis in 1999. In the European Union, there has been an increase in the incidence of gonorrhoea and syphilis in recent years. The survey instrument was an online self-administered anonymous questionnaire conducted in Georgia using Google survey software, which automatically populates and saves digital responses to a secure database protecting participant confidentiality throughout the surveying process. The survey was conducted in 2019. The opportunity to participate in the questionnaire was one-time. The question naire for this study was developed based on a review of literature.Health education, early diagnosis and treatment, screening for asymptomatic infections, contact inquiry, and immunization for illnesses for which a vaccine is available should all be used in STI prevention and control. In general, the studies reported low levels of knowledge and awareness of sexually transmitted diseases. Although, as shown by some of the findings on condom use, knowledge does not always translate into behavior change, adolescents’ sex education is important for STD prevention, and the school setting plays an important role.

This article aims to present the characteristics of sex education in selected European countries. Particular attention should be paid to the need for compulsory and diligently conducted sexual education of young people as a preventive measure and a factor providing objective scientific truth. Normative systems and set of beliefs often create social taboos about sexuality. Based on the analysis of scientific sources published in Polish, French and English, this article also shows the essence of sex education in schools, as a way for young people to make the right choices, reduce the occurrence of risky behaviors and protect against and prevent sexually transmitted diseases, unplanned pregnancy and sexual violence. Acquiring true and consistent with the current state of knowledge information on the human sexual sphere should be carried out throughout life. Conducting professional sex education classes at school would be an opportunity for all students to have equal access to information on this subject. Both for those who talk to their parents and those for whom it is a taboo. The presented effects of the lack of sexual education in schools show that its reliable and professional implementation is a means of providing help to young people and their families. However, in order to change the approach of parents and students to attending classes in this subject, it is necessary to improve the quality of teaching in this subject and to make some changes to the curriculum.

The aim of the study was to explore and describe the possible reasons for the high rate of sexually transmitted diseases in teenagers. The perceptions of teenagers and community nurses regarding sexually transmitted disease among teenagers involved in the teenage clinic in a specific predominantly black area were assessed. Twenty teenagers and five community nurses were participants in the study. Two focus group interviews were conducted with teenagers and community nurses. It can be concluded that the attitudes of community nurses may have an influence on the high rate of sexually transmitted diseases among teenagers. The knowledge o f the teenagers about sexually transmitted diseases is often based on myths and misconceptions which could be intensified by the community nurse. The recommendations made are that the education standards of all community nurses should be reviewed and adapted to meet the needs of teenagers attending the teenage health services. The policy on in-service training must be reviewed and monitored. Community nurses’ intensive training on teenage health service delivery and sexually transmitted diseases services should be in accordance with the principles of Primary Health Care. Community nurses need to attend intensive courses on interpersonal skills specifically related to teenagers. Selection procedures for recruiting community nurses to attend to teenagers specifically should be researched. Teenagers should be involved in planning programs and the teenage clinic should be evaluated frequently to improve the standards. The availability of adequate teenage health services can result in a decrease in sexually transmitted diseases among teenagers.

Approximately half of all American adolescents have experienced sexual intercourse by age 17 years.1 The second highest rate of reported gonococcal infections (1,229 cases per 100,000 persons) occurs in 15- to 19-year-old adolescents. This increased risk in the adolescent population has been associated with the greater number of young people having sexual intercourse, the infrequent use of barrier contraceptive methods, the obstacles to prompt medical care that teenagers face, with consequent delay in diagnosis and further spread of the disease, and the large number of asymptomatic carriers.2 The pediatrician has an important responsibility for providing sexuality-related care to children and adolescents.2-4

Sex education in the United States is limited in both its content and the measures used to collect data on what is taught. The risk-reduction framework that guides the teaching of sex education in the United States focuses almost exclusively on avoiding unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, overlooking other critical topics such as the information and skills needed to form healthy relationships and content related to sexual pleasure. Young people express frustration about the lack of information on sexuality and sexual behavior that is included in sex education programs; sexual and gender minority youths, in particular, feel overlooked by current approaches. International guidance provides a more robust framework for developing and measuring sex education and suggests a number of areas in which US sex education can improve to better meet the needs of youths.

Abstract Background In the majority of European countries, sex education is mandatory, but Italy is still an exception. Despite sexually transmitted diseases (STD) are believed to be less common today, long-time “forgotten” disease, as syphilis, are returning. The aims of study are i) to examine the knowledge and perceptions of adolescents regarding sex education and STD and ii) to compare our results with Italian national survey. Methods This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 6 middle schools in Siena (Italy) during May-June 2018. Data were anonymous collected using a validate questionnaire previously adopted by the Italian National Institute of Health (NIH). The results were compared with the national survey realized in 1998 by NIH. The analysis was performed using Stata 12. Results From 691 questionnaires, 540 returned fulfilled (78% response rate). The majority (95%) of respondents considered sex education “important” and thought it should be guaranteed by the school; 48% described information received so far as “sufficient”, 40% as “adequate”. “School” was indicated as the principal source of information (44%), instead of “friends” which resulted in 1998. The respondents were asked to choose from the list the STDs they knew: 96% indicated “AIDS”, 62% “syphilis”, 38% “HBV” and 36% “gonorrhoea”. In comparison to 1998, knowledge of syphilis has decresed (2018:17% vs. 1998:62%) and HBV (2018:38% vs. 1998:58%). Regarding STD, the “mass media” were cited as the principal source of information (56%), followed by “school” (41%) and “General Practitioner” (20%). Conclusions In comparison to 1998 sex education in Italian schools improved, but the knowledge of adolescents regarding the STD worsened. This result can be attributed to the fact that the survey of 1998 was realized during the years when the AIDS awareness was higher. It is necessary to further improve the sex education in Italy in order to prevent STDs. Key messages The “forgotten” sexually transmitted diseases are becoming common again, the adequate sex education in schools is necessary to prevent them. In confrontation to 1998, the sex education in Italian schools improved, but the knowledge of adolescents regarding the STD worsened.

Although China has had a rich sexual culture for thousands of years, Chinese people are usually unwilling to openly discuss issues of sex. Some parents are quite ignorant of the change in their children’s sexual attitude and behaviour. In China today, adolescents are becoming much more sexually liberated. Premarital sex and unplanned pregnancies among teenagers are increasing. Sexually transmitted diseases (STD) including HIV/AIDS are also spreading rapidly. However, young people lack basic information on AIDS/STD and do not know how to protect themselves from these diseases or how to avoid unintended pregnancies. Several major youth peer education programmes in China are mentioned in this paper. Among them, a four-year programme entitled the Australian–Chinese AIDS/STD/Safer Sex Peer Education Programme for Youth, is discussed in some detail. The programme has so far reached over 40000 university and school students. Evaluation results show that the programme is effective in both significantly increasing students’ knowledge about AIDS/STDs and changing their attitude towards AIDS patients. In addition, the programme is highly praised by the students.
