The basis for effective interaction between departments is properly built and functioning communications, not only at the level of ordinary employees, but also at the level of heads of departments and top management. For example, you can often find a situation where a culture of project work is instilled in a company to improve interaction.

The research objectives were to explore and describe the nature of communication with the mentally retarded adult during treatment of minor ailments; and to describe guidelines for the community nurse in order to facilitate more effective communication during the treatment of minor ailments in the mentally retarded adult for the promotion, maintenance and restoration of the mentally retarded individual’s health. The community nurse pays attention to the protection of the mentally retarded individual’s health, and identifies and treats minor ailments encountered by the mentally retarded individual. Because of the disability of the adults, lacking communication and obstacles in the exchange and interpretation of communication, could take place between the community nurse and the mentally retarded adult. The responsibility lies with the community nurse to facilitate effective communication, since the mentally retarded individual is not always capable of speaking on his/her own behalf. Guidelines are needed for the facilitation of effective communication between the community nurse and the mentally retarded adult during the treatment of minor ailments. In this research, use were made of a qualitative, exploratory, descriptive and contextual design. The research method consisted of participative observation during which video recording and the taking of field notes were applied. Two themes were identified during data analysis, namely: ^Verbal communication is aimed at the treatment of wounds. The more functional and task-orientated the community nurse’s interaction with the mentally retarded individual, the more the mentally retarded individual would generate symptoms to establish emotional contact and interaction; The non-verbal behaviour of the community nurse focuses on the treatment of wounds and organisation of the environment. The more structure is created, the more play-out-behaviour is shown by the mentally retarded individual in need of contact. The researcher came to the conclusion that the community nurse refrains form near/close contact with the mentally retarded individual, to bridge her own discomfort. The community nurse is “busy” with the act of treating wounds, in order to refrain from effective interaction.

The world-wide environment, but particularly the South African environment today has created a growing need for businesses to communicate effectively with their stakeholders. The number of stakeholders interacting with companies has burgeoned, their demands have become greater and the need for change is critical. As these pressures increase, the need for companies to communicate effectively will grow. In South Africa the possibility for misunderstanding is compounded by communication barriers such as the socio-political system, diversity of cultures and languages, as well as the many different levels of education. In an environment such as this the need for effective communication is so great that a company can clearly no longer rely on ad hoc, reactive communications to facilitate the achievement of corporate goals. In order to ensure effective communication a company needs to have an overall communications strategy which has its roots in corporate goals and strategies. Developing and implementing communications strategies involves many complex considerations such as the identification and analysis of stakeholders and their power bases, issues management, corporate image and culture, crisis communications planning, media planning and dealing with communication barriers. This article provides a suggested framework for integrating these and other considerations into the development and implementation of communications strategies.

ABSTRACT Top management's involvement in IT governance appears to positively influence the establishment and implementation of effective IT governance within organizations. Considering the lack of advancement in the area in practice, this study offers a deeper understanding of dimensions that help to explain top management's knowledge of IT governance. Using absorptive capacity as its theoretical underpinning, and based on Australian empirical data, this study shows that for top management to achieve higher levels of absorptive capacity of IT governance knowledge (ACAP-ITG), they need to focus on four dimensions: prior relevant knowledge, effective communication network, appropriate communication climate, and effective knowledge scanning. To further support the usefulness of the ACAP-ITG construct, this study empirically tested the relationship between the construct and corporate performance. This study presents top management in organizations with useful measures that can help them assess their organization's strengths and weaknesses related to ACAP-ITG.

This study contributes to the dissemination of the theoretical and empirical knowledge on the Upper Echelons Theory, considering training and demographic diversity in Top Management Teams (TMTs) as a unique feature of companies, in our case, the IBEX 35 companies. Based on the results, we can confirm that the inclusion of women in management teams positively influences the sales of a company and contributes to increasing financial results. Age and knowledge of two or more languages are important factors in achieving an increase in financial performance. From the point of view of business practice, the results obtained are useful for increasing knowledge of which TMT characteristics are valid, which allows for better results and the establishment of responsible organizational policies that promote the inclusion of gender diversity in TMTs. In addition, the results of this study indicate that the incorporation of members of other non-Spanish nationalities would constitute a distinctive feature of a company and would enrich it not only financially, but also culturally.

Influencers are the new brand narrative. This is why many companies and institutions are positioning their executives –using their full names– to build loyalty amongst their diverse client base. On the other hand, the reputation strategy known as “CEO Executive Visibility” aims to promote a brand by putting the spotlight on its top management and aligning their character traits with the values that the organisation wishes to transmit, thus capturing new audiences, improving follower loyalty and generating more engagement. Along these lines, and using content analysis and quantitative research methods, and combining economic and communication factors as theoretical underpinnings, this investigation examines how the chairpersons of the companies listed in the Ibex 35 (the Spanish benchmark index) use the main social networks (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube and personal blogs). The results obtained show how executive visibility strategies are applied in Spain and who the main influencers in this financial environment are. This research evidences that the chairpersons of Ibex 35 companies do not post consistently on social media and that there is a link between the public image of a company’s top management and the perception of a company and its commitment to its audience.
