For 200 years, the Metro has been carrying out most of the passenger traffic in large cities and metropolitan areas. The metro architecture embodies cultural ideals, historical milestones and the achievements of society in various fields. The metro is the transport frame of the city, participates in the formation of the urban ensemble. Sustainable development of the metro requires a comprehensive study of its architecture, analysis of domestic and foreign analogues: the prerequisites and chronology of metro development, identification of concepts, directions, principles and techniques of the architectural formation of metro objects. A systematic approach to architectural analysis and design of the metro, identifying the importance of the role of an architect allows to determine the prospects and vectors for the development of transport infrastructure, improve the quality and safety of passenger traffic, design energy-efficient, autonomous, economical, aesthetic and ergonomic metro stations. The high rates of modern metro design require the development of measures to preserve the unity of the metro lines and communication with the city space. Systematization and classification of trends in the development of metro architecture in the period from 1823 to 2000 will allow to determine the arsenal of architectural techniques, to develop urban planning approaches to the architectural solution of the stations

The article shows a significant role of social networks in the system of forms of social interaction in the vital city space. The task to identify the most popular platforms for promotion SMO and SMM – brands in the tourist area of a hero city Volgograd was chosen as the key tool. The study identified the effectiveness of priority methods of given marketing practices such as the community formation of brand of territory, work with blogosphere, reputation management, personal branding and extraordinary promotion. The conditions for the infinite social interaction are created in these forms in open ICT environment for the residents and the city guests who have common interests in urban space. The research has accomplished the following tasks such as identification of the most popular open platforms for SMO and SMM of tourist area brand promotion of a hero city Volgograd, detection of related communities, identification of a trust level to them, establishment of their purposes and the range of issues of their interest, places and attractions, related to the brand of territory; uncovering of factors and mechanisms which detect mood changing of the target audience and creation of methodological templates which allow to develop, implement and optimize SMO and SMM campaigns

The aim of this paper is to present the significance of the recreational space in Poznań for the physical activity of the city’s residents. The factors considered in the study were the following: the range of possibilities for engagement in paid-for and free-of-charge physical activities, the perceived availability of green areas, the favourite places for physical activity and the role of the neighbourhood and flows in this aspect. The paper presents the results of a survey conducted among 1,244 inhabitants of Poznań in 2017. The respondents positively assessed the possibilities of undertaking physical activity in the context of the city/ space offer. The access to various sports was rated positive, among it the paid activities offered were rated higher than free-of-charge ones. The availability of green areas near the place of residence was assessed as good. Two locations, Cytadela Park and Lake Malta with the surrounding green areas, were the most popular for pursuing physical activity.

This text addresses the significance and potential of municipal libraries. The author considers the results of research conducted to evaluate the network of municipal libraries in Kraków (a UNESCO City of Literature) and to prepare a strategy for a new cultural institution, the Kraków Library. He considers libraries in terms of “place.” The notion of “place” here involves both the urban dimension of a library (that is, its role and location in the city space) and the architectural sense (its interior and attractiveness). He attaches great importance to a library’s city-forming and culture-forming roles, and to the social role of the library as a “third place,” a place that is neither home nor work and in which diverse participants can undertake joint activities.

The main problems of transport infrastructure of cities are the problems of interaction of different types of transport, optimization of route flows, technical backwardness, low capacity, low speed of travel on public transport, low comfort for passengers. Currently, this is complicated by the constant growth of population and the number of cars, which invariably results in the need for optimization of an urban logistics system. A comprehensive solution to the problems presented can be the building of a network of transport hubs as a new stage in the implementation of transport reform. The article analyzes the transport infrastructure of Yekaterinburg. Based on the ABC analysis of passenger traffic, a method has been developed to identify the stopping points of the route network, which can later be transformed into transport hubs. The optimal logistics system of Yekaterinburg has been formed, consisting of three transport and logistics hubs: “Bus terminal”, “Railway station”, “Professors’” (Professorskaya).

Abstract This paper asks how language and other semiotic resources are deployed in the semiotic landscape of Thai restaurants in the city of Hamburg, Germany. Based on detailed multimodal analysis of signage in twelve restaurants, this study draws on both established and underexplored topics in Linguistic Landscape scholarship, including the analysis of sign-genres, the distinction between communicative and symbolic functions of signs, the role of language choice in authenticating place, and the emplacement of signs in the semiotic landscape. A scheme for the classification of restaurant signs by discourse function and emplacement is proposed. The findings suggest that the analytical distinctions between inside and outside space as well as primary and secondary signs are useful for the study of restaurants and other commercial semiotic spaces.

This chapter explores connections between music and science. It includes rationales for integrating music and science, common links between the two disciplines, and a discussion of the Next Generation Science Standards and the National Core Arts Standards. Tables clearly show the standards that are incorporated throughout the lessons and examples. The chapter contains six detailed, full-length lessons that integrate music and science. These include lessons that explore the Ebola epidemic in Liberia; the classification of animals with Saint-Saëns’s Carnival of the Animals; connections between steady beat, heartbeat, tempo, and rate; layering and preservation in the song “Pompeii” and the city of Pompeii; creating musical instruments; and the role of butterflies as indicators of climate change. The chapter ends with an inventory of ideas detailing seventeen additional lesson topics, specific teaching strategies, and recommended activities.

The transport systems of the largest cities in Russia usually include extensive tram and trolleybus networks. There are subways in seven million-plus cities. Thus, electric transport has a very significant role in the passenger traffic of these cities. Moreover, the mentioned elements of the electric transport system can influence each other in different ways, and the level of their spatial interaction can also differ. For example, in global practice, there are cases when most types of public transport in the city (bus, trolley, tram, minibus, etc.) are feeders to subway lines, which are usually the key mode of transport within the integrated transport system of a large city (in In some cases, the role of the subway can be performed by a light rail). In addition, tram and trolleybus can be integrated in different ways. Diverse factors and processes taking place inside the city can influence the level of this integration: replacing one mode of transport with another, shortening the lines of one of the modes of transport, etc. Various options for such interaction are described by the example of three Russia’s cities: Kazan, Samara and St. Petersburg.

Objective: The present research aimed to identify which competences are desirable to the accountant from the perspective of the accounting professionals who work in the offices of the city of Vitória de Santo Antão, in Pernambuco. Methodology: A descriptive field survey research was carried out, with a quantitative approach and the use of a specific questionnaire, applied to a sample of 26 accounting firms. The study considered the classification of competencies of the standard established by the IFAC International Federation of Accountants (2012), categorized as: intellectual; technical and functional; personal; interpersonal and communication; and organizational and business management, as well as the use of the set of competencies defined by the studies of Cardoso (2006), Callado and Amorim (2017). The research data were collected in person and by email, being treated with the aid of Microsoft Excel software, enabling the construction of tables for analysis. Results: The competences of the accountant indicated by the professionals of the area working in the offices located in the city of Vitória de Santo Antão, in Pernambuco, were consistent with those provided by IFAC (HEI 3), highlighting them with the highest level of importance, among the five categories classified in that standard: ability to identify problems, acting in accordance with the legislation, acting with ethics and integrity, working in a team, knowing how to manage and organize time well. One notices a trend towards the new role of the accountant, who is no longer seen as a mere "bean counter" but as a "business partner". Study Contributions: Identifying and understanding which are the competencies required of the accounting professional can assist in the growth and development of the same in organizations, since even though there are several investigations on this subject, it is consensual the understanding that the competence of the accountant is a construct in formation, thus not consolidated. Another contribution is to present to the accounting science courses in the region what the market expects from students, so that they can organise a political pedagogic project. By recognising which competences are considered relevant from the perspectives of the professionals themselves, discussions are enabled that seek to find suggestions for improvements to their education, and also about their social role, considering changes in the political, economic and technological spheres.

Functional reciprocity of all transport sectors with their infrastructure support is most evident in ports. The port of Split, integrated in Split’s traffic intersection, is a striking example of uniqueness of Split-Dalmatia County as a traffic and economic centre of Central Dalmatia. The development of City’s harbour for passenger traffic and the North Port for cargo traffic has determined already set constellation of relations of maritime, road and rail traffic, and their mutual interference. The road transport and activities with regard to hinterland services generate economic development in which Split is no exception. This estimate is based on changes that can be expected in terms of redistribution of traffic flow in the central and southern Adriatic and the greater role of road transport, with Split having an increasingly important role.

I discuss the walking practice of Delhi-based artist Mallika Taneja in the context of its engagement with, and intervention in, the contemporary conversations on sexualised violence, gender, space and mobility in India. Taneja’s work is part of a variety of feminist activism to take place in India since the horrific gang rape of Jyoti Singh in Delhi in December 2012. Taneja organises regular midnight walks in various parts of the city, which are advertised via social media. This essay explores the significance of walking as a pedagogical tool to understand the relationship between gender, city, space and mobility in Delhi. When conversations on sexualized violence are accelerating in the wake of #MeToo, I examine the contours of embodied knowledge practices enabled by collective walking by women at midnight. I discuss how walking-based methodologies allow for a learning process that is lived, somatic, and personal and which is rooted in specific spatial contexts based on listening and care. Using an intersectional perspective that pays close attention to the role of region, class, caste, sexuality and ethnicity (Mohanty, 2013), this essay is also a prompt against a unified theory of gender, safety, and mobility.
