Makanan penduduk Indonesia sebagaian besar adalah nasi, disamping sagu dan jagung. Penderita Diabetus Melitus, nasi merupakan sumber glukosa yang pantas diwaspadai sehingga asupan nasi harus dibatasi. Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO)  merupakan minyak yang berasal dari buah kelapa (Cocos mucifera L) tua segar yang diolah pada suhu 100C-150C dan dimasak tidak sampai matang. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui penurunan kadar glukosa pada nasi yang  dicampur VCO (Virgin Cocot Oil). Pada penelitian ini  sampel dari nasi tanpa penambahan VCO dibandingkan dengan nasi dengan penambahan  VCO  3%, 4%, dan 5% dari jumlah beras yang akan dinanak. Uji kuatitatif penentuan Glukosa menggunakan metode Anthrone Sulfat sedang analisisnya dengan metode Spektrofotometri. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kadar rata-rata glukosa pada sampel nasi tanpa penambahan VCO sebesar 30,65%b/b, kadar rata-rata glukosa pada sampel nasi yang ditambahkan VCO dengan kadar 3% sebesar 28,46%b/b, kadar rata-rata glukosa pada sampel nasi yang ditambahkan VCO dengan kadar 4% sebesar 28,31%b/b, kadar rata-rata glukosa pada sampel nasi yang ditambahkan VCO dengan kadar 5% sebesar 18,78%b/b. Dari hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa  kadar Glukosa nasi terbaik adalah nasi yang  ditambah VCO kadar 5%b/b.   The majority of Indonesian population's food is rice, besides sago and corn. Diabetus Melitus sufferers, rice is a source of glucose that must be watched out so that rice intake must be limited. Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) is oil derived from fresh old coconut (Cocos mucifera L) which is processed at a temperature of 100C-150C and not cooked until cooked. The purpose of this study was to determine the decrease in glucose levels in rice mixed with VCO (Virgin Cocot Oil). In this study samples from rice without the addition of VCO were compared with rice with the addition of VCO 3%, 4%, and 5% of the amount of rice to be cooked. Quantitative testing of Glucose determination using the Anthrone Sulfate method is being analyzed using the Spectrophotometry method. The results showed that the average glucose level in the rice sample without the addition of VCO was 30.65% b / b, the average glucose level in the rice sample added with VCO at 3% was 28.46% b / b, the average level The average glucose in the rice sample which was added by VCO at 4% level was 28.31% b / b, the average glucose level in the rice sample added with VCO at 5% level was 18.78% b / b. From the results of the study it can be concluded that the best rice glucose level is rice which is added to the VCO level of 5% b / b.

The aims of this paper were to determine the effect of virgin coconut oil (VCO) on bodyweight and serum glucose level among acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients. Various clinical trials on animal studies have found that the VCO has many beneficial effects on health. However, there have been limited published human studies on the pharmacological properties of VCO. Investigation on human subjects is extremely required in order to provide more empirical evidence to show the effect of VCO for ACS patients. Randomised single blind study conducted between March 2018 and April 2018. RCT was conducted among 70 ACS patients for 30 days. Participants in group A received their bottles containing 100 pieces of virgin coconut oil soft gels and were required to ingest 10 capsules per day (5 mL/5 gm) and continue routine treatment (diabetic diet and diabetic medication). Group B participants continued receiving routine treatment. Changes in serum fating blood sugar and body weight were identified using a paired t-test and independent t-test. A total of 70 patients participated with ages of 51 years old and older and were mostly male. The serum FBS and body weight of the intervention group that received VCO were reduced about 13.6% on day 30, from the baseline on day 1. They also had body weight reduction of about 2% with p value of less than 0.05. In contrast, the control group that only received routine treatment showed an increment of 12.1% in their serum FBS and had no changes in body weight. These reductions were noted within 30 days of consuming a daily dose of VCO (5 g every day). The properties of lauric acid and antioxidants present in the VCO composition were key players in the reduction of serum glucose levels and body weight. VCO can reduce serum glucose levels and body weight with 5 mL (5 g) of VCO per day for 30 days. Also, VCO may have a positive effect towards the glucose level and other cardiovascular risk factors.

Abstract Objective Sodium fluoride (NaF) has been applied to inhibit glycolysis in venous specimens for decades. However, it has had little effect on the rate of glycolysis in the first 1 to 2 hours, resulting in a decrease of glucose, so a more efficient method is needed. Recently, we discovered that WZB117, a specific Glut1 inhibitor, restricts glycolysis by inhibiting the passive sugar transport of human red blood cells and cancer cells. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the results of intravenous blood glucose determination after the addition of WZB117. Methods Venous specimens from 40 pairs of healthy volunteers were collected for several days and placed in tubes containing NaF plus EDTA-disodium (Na2) without WZB117 (the A group); citric acid, trisodium citrate, and EDTA-Na2 without WZB117 (B group); and NaF plus EDTA-Na2 with WZB117 (C group). The glucose concentration was measured after venipuncture and compared with test tubes treated for 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours before centrifugation. Glucose level was determined by the hexokinase method. The paired t-test was used to examine differences in glucose values at baseline and at different time points. The number of misdiagnoses and the misdiagnosis rate were calculated at 2 diagnostic stages: high risk of diabetes (glucose level of 6.1 mmol/L) and diagnosis of diabetes (glucose level of 7.0 mmol/L). Results Glucose levels decreased by 1.0% at 1 hour and by 2.1% at 3 hours in the C group tubes and simultaneously decreased by 1.7% at 1 hour and by 2.5% at 3 hours in the B group tubes. In contrast, glucose levels decreased by 4.1% at 1 hour and by 6.3% at 3 hours in the A group tubes. There was a statistically significant difference in glucose levels measured in the A group tubes and B group tubes at 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours. The misdiagnosis rate of clinical diagnosis in diabetes was highest in the A group tubes (7.0‰ at 1 hour, 0.1‰ at 3 hours at 7.0 mmol/L point; 14.6‰ at 1 hour, 0.4‰ at 3 hours at 6.1 mmol/L point) and lowest in the C group tubes (2.95‰ at 1 hour, 0‰ at 3 hours at 7.0 mmol/L point; 4.8‰ at 1 hour, 0.1‰ at 3 hours at 6.1 mmol/L point). Conclusion The tube addition of WZB117 is more suitable for minimizing glycolysis and has no effect on glucose levels even if specimens are left uncentrifuged for up to 3 hours.

We investigated whether achieving estimated average glucose (EAG) levels versus achieving standard glucose levels (180 mg/dL) was associated with neurologic outcome in cardiac arrest survivors. This single-center retrospective observational study included adult comatose cardiac arrest survivors undergoing therapeutic hypothermia (TH) from September 2011 to December 2017. EAG level was calculated using HbA1c obtained after the return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC), and the mean glucose level during TH was calculated. We designated patients to the EAG or standard glucose group according to whether the mean blood glucose level was closer to the EAG level or 180 mg/dL. Patients in the EAG and standard groups were propensity score- matched. The primary outcome was the 6-month neurologic outcome. The secondary outcomes were hypoglycemia (≤70 mg/dL) and serum neuron-specific enolase (NSE) at 48 h after ROSC. Of 384 included patients, 137 (35.7%) had a favorable neurologic outcome. The EAG group had a higher favorable neurologic outcome (104/248 versus 33/136), higher incidence of hypoglycemia (46/248 versus 11/136), and lower NSE level. After propensity score matching, both groups had similar favorable neurologic outcomes (24/93 versus 27/93) and NSE levels; the EAG group had a higher incidence of hypoglycemia (21/93 versus 6/93). Achieving EAG levels was associated with hypoglycemia but not neurologic outcome or serum NSE level.

Background. Diabetes is a known independent risk factor for stroke. However, whether higher glucose levels (126–139.9 mg/dl) can increase the risk of stroke in people without diabetes is still unknown. Moreover, as a fluctuating parameter, long-term glucose levels may also be related to the risk of stroke outcome. It is important to explore the correlation between long-term average blood glucose, as well as its variability, and stroke. Methods. We used 40,975 clinical measurements of glucose levels and 367 measurements of glycated hemoglobin A1c levels from 12,321 participants without stroke to examine the relationship between glucose levels and the risk of stroke. Participants were from the Weitang Geriatric Diseases study, including 5,707 men and 6,614 women whose mean age at baseline was 60.8 years; 1,011 participants had diabetes, and 11,310 did not. We estimated the long-term average blood glucose level based on the multilevel Bayesian model and fit in Cox regression models, stratified according to diabetes status. Results. Over a median follow-up period of 5 years, stroke developed in 279 of the 12,321 participants (244 without diabetes and 35 with). For people with an average glucose level of 126–139.9 mg per deciliter, compared with 90–99.9 mg per deciliter, the adjusted hazard ratio (HR) for total stroke was 1.78 (95% confidence interval (CI), 1.16–2.75), and the HR for levels higher than 140 mg per deciliter was 1.89 (95% CI, 1.09–3.29). Among those without diabetes whose glucose level was higher than 140 mg per deciliter, compared with 90–99.9 mg per deciliter, the adjusted HRs for total stroke and fatal stroke were 3.66 (95% CI, 1.47–9.08) and 5 (95% CI, 1.77–14.15), respectively. For a glucose standard deviation level higher than 13.83 mg per deciliter, compared with that lower than 5.91 mg per deciliter, the adjusted HR for total stroke was 2.31 (95% CI, 1.19–4.48). Conclusions. Our results suggest that higher average glucose levels (126–139.9 mg/dl) and variance may be risk factors for stroke, even among people without diabetes diagnosis.

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that requires good medical treatment to prevent long-term complications. The proportion of DM patients in Indonesia in 2013 was 3,7 million. Indonesia as one of the countries with the highest diversity has natural resources that can be used as an alternative medicine for diabetes mellitus, one of them is dayak onion. Dayak onions themselves contain compounds that can reduce blood glucose levels. The use of traditional medicine in the community is sometimes combined with chemical drugs. So the purpose of this study was to determine the comparison of the combination activity of dayak onion  extract – metformin with single metformin to reduce mice blood sugar induced by alloxan. This research includes experimental research. The test animals used were male white mice which were divided into 2 groups, namely the combination of dayak onion and metformin and the single metformin group. The dose of dayak onion extract used in this study was 100 mg / KgBB and the dose of Metformin used was 45 mg / KgBB. Measurement of glucose levels is carried out every 3 days for 15 days. The decrease in fasting blood glucose from the control group and the test group was analyzed by the General Linear Model test at a 95% confidence level. The results of this study indicate that the combination of dayak onion tuber extract and metformin has better hypoglycemic activity than single metformin. This result can be seen from the average glucose level from day 3 to 15 the combination of dayak onion tuber and metformin is lower than the average glucose level of single metformin. The results of GLM analysis showed the sigvalue <0,05 so it can be concluded that there is a difference in glucose levels between the combination of dayak onion tuber and metformin with a single metformin.

Epidemiological studies show an increased incidence of diabetes mellitus. The initial therapy of diabetes mellitus is a diet treatment. The recommended intake of fat is a Saturated Fatty Acids (SFA) <7% and a Polyunsatturated Fatty Acid (PUFA) <10% of calories. The corn oil contains PUFA and the virgin coconut oil contains SFA as the main component. Aims of this study was to compare the effectivity of corn oil (Zea mays) and virgin coconut oil (Cocos nucifera L.) in decreasing blood glucose level in alloxane-ijnected wistar rats. This was a laboratory experiment research, used the posttest-only control design. The negative control group was wistar rats injected by aquabidest and standard feed diet (K-); the positive control group was alloxane-injected rats with standard feed diet (K+); alloxane-injected rats with standard food diet and 0.54 mL of corn oil/day for 28 days were P1 group; alloxane-injected rats with standard diet food and 0.54 mL of virgin coconut oil/day for 28 days were P2 group. Statistical analysis using the one way ANOVA test showed that the corn oil and virgin coconut oil decrease blood glucose level, but there was no significantly difference in decresing of blood glucose level between P1 and P2. This study concluded that the corn oil and the virgin coconut oil have the same effectiveness in decreasing blood glucose level in wistar rats injected with alloxane.Keywords: Corn oil, virgin coconut oil, blood glucose level, alloxane

Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) adalah bahan alami yang memiliki sifat antimikroba (antivirus, antibakteri, dan antijamur). Sehingga VCO dapat memberikan efek pengawet pada bahan makanan, salah satunya adalah roti manis. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh VCO terhadap karakteristik (fisik dan kimia) dan umur simpan roti manis. Roti manis dianalisis secara fisik (tekstur dan porositas) dan kimia (kadar air, kadar abu, kadar lemak, kadar protein, dan kandungan karbohidrat), dan analisis umur simpan dengan FFA, uji organoleptik dan jamur setiap dua hari selama delapan hari penyimpanan di suhu ruang. Variasi perlakuan roti manis adalah dari rasio konsentrasi VCO: margarin: mentega, K (0%: 8%: 8%); A (4%: 6%: 6%); B (8%: 4%: 4%), C (12%: 2%: 2%); D (16%: 0%: 0%). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa VCO tidak memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap karakteristik fisik dan karakteristik kimia roti manis. Namun, VCO berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kadar air roti manis yang dihasilkan, roti manis K memiliki kadar air tertinggi (22,36%) dan berbeda dengan sampel roti manis lainnya. VCO secara efektif menghambat pertumbuhan jamur di roti manis pada konsentrasi 8%, 12%, dan 16%. Roti manis K dan A memiliki masa simpan 4 hari, sedangkan roti manis B, C, dan D memiliki masa simpan 6 hari.Kata kunci: VCO, roti manis, karakteristik, umur simpanABSTRACTVirgin Coconut Oil (VCO) is a natural ingredient that has antimicrobial (antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal) properties. So that VCO can provide a preservative effect on food ingredients, one of which is sweet bread. This research was conducted to evaluate the effect of VCO on characteristics (physical and chemical) and shelf life of sweet bread. Sweet bread was analyzed physically (texture and porosity) and chemistry (moisture content, ash content, fat content, protein content, and carbohydrate content), and shelf life analysis with FFA, organoleptic and mold tests every two days for eight days of storage at ambient temperature. Treatment variations of sweet breads is from the ratio of the concentration of VCO: margarine: butter, K (0%: 8%: 8%); A (4%: 6%: 6%); B (8%: 4%: 4%), C (12%: 2%: 2%); D (16%: 0%: 0%). The results showed that VCO did not have a significant effect on the physical characteristics and chemical characteristics of sweet bread. However, the VCO has a significant effect on the water content of the sweet bread produced, sweet bread K has the highest moisture content (22,36%) and it is different from other sweet bread samples. VCO effectively inhibits the growth of sweet bread mold at concentrations of 8%, 12%, and 16%. K and A sweet bread has a shelf life of 4 days, while sweet breads B, C, and D have a shelf life of 6 days.Keywords: VCO, sweet bread, characteristics, shelf life

Introduction: The role of virgin coconut oil in the treatment of allergic rhinitis is controversial. Thus, the aim of the present study is to determine the effects of virgin coconut oil ingestion, in addition to standard medications, on allergic rhinitis. We also studied the side effects of consumption of virgin coconut oil. Methods: Fifty two subjects were equally divided into test and control groups. All subjects received a daily dose of 10mg of loratadine for 28 days. The test group was given 10ml of virgin coconut oil three times a day in addition to loratadine. The symptoms of allergic rhinitis were scored at the beginning and end of the study. Results:, the symptom score were divided into nasal and non-nasal symptom scores. Sneezing score showed a significant difference, however the score was more in control group than test group, indicating that improvement in symptom was more in control group. The rest of the nasal symptom and non-nasal symptom score showed no significant difference between test and control groups. Approximately 58% of the test subjects developed side effects from consumption of virgin coconut oil, mainly gastrointestinal side effects. Conclusion: In the present study, ingestion of virgin coconut oil does not improve the overall and individual symptoms of allergic rhinitis, furthermore it has side effects.
