Thus, this study aims to identify the role of Inquiry Based Learning to improve reading comprehension. The design of this study was mixed method with QUAN-qual model. The quantitative method used quasi-experimental design with control and experimental group including pre-test and post-test. It used purposive sampling technique to determine the samples who involved 40 students; 19 students in control class and 21 students in experimental class. This study was conducted at third semester students of English Education Department of STKIP Muhammadiyah Sidrap. The data were gained through test and non-test (questionnaire and interview). Then, the data were analyzed through SPSS 22. The significant findings of the recent study was the roles of IBL; developing students’ reading proficiency, engaging the students with complex texts, practicing students’ all levels of comprehension as they take a part in IBL phases, activating students prior knowledge, aligning inquiry process to students’ reading comprehension, providing students to work with team and enhancing students’ learning process. Recently, at Moroccan tertiary level and in the area of student practices, little attention has been brought particularly to the skill of note-taking and active reading comprehension, and an insightful and in-depth understanding of how students learn from lectures could presumably be valuable in understanding and unravelling the intricacies of possible positive results of their note-taking behavior. The current study focuses mainly on the instruction of students into the systems of note-taking and how that affects their level of reading comprehension. Therefore, the effort reported here attempts to assess the students’ current systems of notetaking and how they contribute to reach a full understanding of reading comprehension texts. The participants were 94 Semester-One students at the department of the English Studies at Ibn Tofail University, School of Arts and Humanities in Kénitra, Morocco. The data of the present study were collected by means of a TOEFL iBT Reading Practice comprehension test (i.e., post-test), and strategy training equating note-taking schemas and reading comprehension texts. The findings have showcased that after having been instructed through many sessions of note-taking, students felt that their process of reading comprehension is enhanced as they were able to organize their ideas and information from the text, stay focused and engaged while reading, and keep a record of reading material to use it later. This is solid proof that they critically used and retained what they read.

ABSTRACTThe teaching of speaking in Indonesian schools faces some problems such as limited amount of practice and feedback and students’ anxiety. Addressing this issue, therefore, this study was aimed at examining the role of video-recorded speaking task in improving students’ oral productive skill measured through a speaking test and understand students’ response on the use of the task through a questionnaire. It was a quasi-experimental study, the sample of which was 87 tenth grade students of one senior high selected through a purposive sampling technique and randomly assigned into experimental and controlled classes. The test served as a pretest administered at the beginning and as a posttest distributed at the end of the treatment, which data were analyzed using t-test. The effectiveness of the treatment was analyzed from the posttest and gained scores, which findings revealed higher achievements of the experimental group. In addition, students were happy to do this task. These findings mean that video-recorded speaking task play roles in enhancing students’ oral productive skill and support previous studies on the effectiveness of video-recorded speaking tasks. How to Cite: Azkiyah, S. Schizophrenia is a chronic brain disorder that affects about one percent of the population which is also commonly found in Indonesia. Based on the medical records taken from Surabaya Menur Mental Hospital in July until September 2016, the number of patients diagnosed with this disease is 439 patients. The increasing case of schizophrenia is resulted from the lack of support and role of family and their ability in taking care of patients with schizophrenia. This study used quasi-experimental design (pre-post test controlgroup design), purposed to prove the effects of video-based discharge planning using family-centered nursing on the ability of family in taking care of patients with schizophrenia. This study involved the family members of schizophrenic clients as the population in which half of them were taken as the samples: 15 repondents were chosen as the control group, whereas 15 respondents were taken as the treatment group using consecutive random sampling technique. There have been many studies on English grammar, but a dearth of studies has been conducted in the cross-sectional fields such as seeking how the field of grammar makes contributions to reading comprehension. Accordingly, the current study sought to find out the impacts of explicit and implicit instructions of English connectors on EFL students’ reading comprehension. 50 third semester students from an English department at a university in Bengkulu were incorporated as the samples. Adopting a quasi-experimental method, those 50 students were split into two classes, the so-called experimental and control classes. Students in the experimental class were taught English connectors explicitly, and those of the control class were taught English connectors implicitly. Before eight times of treatments in the form of the two ways of instructions, students of the two group were given a valid and reliable reading comprehension pre-test, and a similar construct of post-test was given after the eighth treatments ended. The data of the current study were analyzed by deploying paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. The present study revealed that explicit and implicit instructions of English connectors had positive impacts on EFL students’ reading comprehension. However, the explicit instruction of English connectors enhanced EFL students’ reading comprehension more significantly and more effectively. It is recommended that further studies be conducted to replicate the present study in different contexts for the sake of providing rich data to confirm the current study’s results.

The study was carried out under the quantitative paradigm with quasi experimental design. The participants were selected by using cluster sampling technique and divided into two groups, namely authentic group and pedagogic group. Each of groups consisted of 39 participants. All participants were first grade students of high school in Bone, Indonesia. The data of the students’ reading comprehension achievement were collected by using reading comprehension test, while the data about the students’ reading motivation were taken from Motivation for Reading Questionnaire (MRQ) containing 32 items on seven domains of motivation. The data collected were then analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics through SPSS 20 program. The result showed that (1) the use of authentic materials was effective than pedagogic materials to develop reading comprehension achievement of the first year students. It was seen from the significance t-test result that reveals the significance value was lower than the significance level; (0.00 < 0.05). Furthermore, in relation to the reading motivation of students, (2) it was found that authentic materials was effective to develop students’ reading motivation. The result showed that the p-value of students’ reading motivation before and after treatments was greater than the level of significance (0.00 < 0.05).
