Background: One of the critical factors affecting patients’ outcomes is their concerns about different issues during their admission to the hospital. Clarifying these concerns and providing appropriate approaches could improve the quality of care, result in better outcomes, and reduce treatment costs. The present study aimed to investigate patients’ concerns during hospitalization, and the likely related factors of the educational hospitals in Kermanshah, western Iran. Materials and Methods: This analytical-descriptive study included 600 adult patients selected via a multi-stage sampling method and admitted to all four educational hospitals affiliated to Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences )KUMS) in 2016. Required data were collected using a survey with 15 questions on demographic information, current disease, medical records, and a researcher-developed questionnaire on factors causing concern in the Likert scale. Results: Of 600 patients who participated in the survey, 336 (56%) were female and 486 )81%) were married. The most frequent concerns were the length of admission, failure in treatment or recovery, and hospital costs, respectively. The length of hospital stay, income, and level of education were significantly associated with the concern scores. Also, there was a significant difference between concern score distributions in groups with a definite diagnosis of illnesses (P<0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study suggested a correlation between variables such as education, income, the final diagnosis of a sickness, and the concern level of admitted patients. Our findings could help managers and hospital administrators better understand the concerns of admitted patients and find solutions to remove them.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to measure health-related quality of life (QOL) among patients with early stage cancer breast under curative treatment at department of oncology and nuclear medicine at Ain Shams University Hospitals. Identify factors affecting QOL among these patients. Design/methodology/approach – A cross-sectional study measured QOL among early stage female breast cancer (BC) patients and determined the main factors affecting their QOL. Three interviewer administered questionnaires were used. Findings – The physical domain mostly affected in BC patients and the functional domain least. Socio-demographic factors that significantly affected BC patients QOL scores were patient age, education, having children and family income. Specific patient characteristics include caregiver presence – a factor that affected different QOL scores. Age at diagnosis, affection in the side of the predominant hand, post-operative chemotherapy and difficulty in obtaining the medication were the disease-related factors that affected QOL scores. Originality/value – The final model predicting QOL for early stage female BC patients included age, education and difficulty in obtaining the medication as determinants for total QOL score. Carer presence was the specific patient characteristic that affected different QOL scores.

Background: Uterine leiomyomas are considered as a major source of complications and the most common cause of hysterectomy. Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the quality of life in women with and without uterine leiomyoma referred to gynecology clinics of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in 2018. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a total of 126 patients who referred to the clinics of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences were selected and divided into equal groups according to uterine leiomyoma, 1 - 7 cm uterine leiomyoma group and non-uterine leiomyoma group by convenience sampling. The World Health Organization Quality of Life and Healthy Lifestyle questionnaires were used for data collection. Independent t-test was used to analyze the data. Results: The mean quality of life of women with uterine leiomyoma was 47.20 ± 12.41 and women without uterine leiomyoma had a significant difference (51.11 ± 11.23, t = 3.93, P = 0.041). The mean lifestyle of women with uterine leiomyoma was 114.18 ± 25.48 and women without uterine leiomyoma had 149.11 ± 23.81 (t = 4.01, P = 0.029). Conclusions: The mean score of quality of life and lifestyle were significantly different in women with and without uterine leiomyoma. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the quality of life of women by improving their lifestyle and providing psychological counseling.

Guangzhou is believed to be the most important epicenter of dengue outbreaks in southern China. In this study, a longitudinal serological investigation of previous cases of dengue fever in Guangzhou was conducted to explore the persistence of IgG antibodies and related factors affecting the changes of antibody level. We recruited 70 dengue virus type 1 (DENV-1) primary infection cases at two years post infection for serological investigation and conducted a second follow-up in the 5th year of prognosis. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for DENV IgG antibody was examined in all study subjects. Potential factors associated with the concentration of serum total IgG antibody were determined by the generalized estimation equation (GEE). No significant difference in serum total IgG antibody positive rate between two follow-ups was observed (χ2 = 3.066, p = 0.080). However, there was a significant difference in the concentration of serum total IgG antibody between the two follow-ups (Z = 7.154, p < 0.001). The GEE showed that the antibody level in the five-year prognosis was mainly affected by the antibody level in the two-year prognosis (OR: 1.007, 95%CI: 1.005–1.009). In conclusion, the serum IgG antibodies of previous dengue fever cases can persist for a long time.

Background: Identifying, maintenance, and promotion of dignity in different patients of various cultures is an ethical responsibility of healthcare workers. Research questions: This study was conducted to investigate factors related to dignity in patients with heart failure and test the validity of Dignity Model. Design: The study had a descriptive-correlational design, and data collection was carried out by means of four specific questionnaires. Participants and context: A total of 130 in-patients from cardiac wards in hospitals affiliated with Tehran and Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences participated. Ethical consideration: This study was approved by the Research Committee of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. Findings: Significant correlation showed the following: between illness related worries with dignity conserving repertoire score, between illness related worries with social dignity, between illness related worries with dignity conserving repertoire score, and between social dignity with dignity score. Goodness Fit Index and Comparative Fit Index were calculated greater than 0.9. Discussion: This study affirms the importance of careful evaluation of individual patients to determine their needs related to dignity. Conclusion: According to the results, the necessity of using appropriate tools to assess various aspects of patients’ dignity by clinical healthcare staff and design activities with particular focus on the main factors affecting dignity such as illness related worries and social dignity is recommended. Attention to this issue in everyday clinical practice can facilitate health professionals/nurses to potentially improve their patients’ dignity, develop quality of care and treatment, and improve patients’ satisfaction.

Introduction: Internet addiction is a global phenomenon with an increasing trend in university students. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency and factors affecting internet addiction in externship and internship medical students of Kerman University of Medical Sciences in 2018. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on externship and internship medical students of Kerman University of Medical Sciences in 2018 during a 6-month period using convenience sampling method. In this study, the valid and reliable self-administered questionnaire of “Kimberly-Young internet addiction questionnaire” was used to collect the research data. The attainable scores in this questionnaire range from 20 to 100, so that  higher scores show greater dependence on the Internet. Data were analyzed by SPSS version 20 using the Chi-square test. A significant level was set at lower than 0.05. Results: Among the participants, 46 participants (18.4%) were normal users, 127 (50.8%) were at risk, and 77 (30.8%) were addicted to the Internet. Among the demographic factors, a significant relationship was found between gender (p = 0.041) and educational level (p = 0.024) with Internet addiction. Conclusion: policymakers should pay particular attention to the issue of Internet addiction in medical students, since Internet addiction may cause these students to neglect their critical duties during externship and internship. In this regard, holding effective training courses can be helpful.

The study, which is a descriptive and cross-sectional one, was carried out on a population consisting of nurses serving at the Hospital of Diyarbakır Dicle University to identify and evaluate the factors affecting their work life quality depending on the employment conditions at the workplace.The population of the study consisted  of 720 nurses working in hospital of  the Medicine Faculty of Diyarbakır Dicle University and 334 nurses (46.4%) were included in the study. Study data were gathered, after obtaining the required permissions, by a survey form containing 29 questions determining demographic and vocational qualities between 1 September 2015-30 October 2015, and by “Nursing Working Life Quality Scale”  developed by Brooks (2001) and adapted into Turkish and tested in terms of validity and confidence  by Şirin (2011) was also used. In evaluation of the data, numbers, percentage calculation, standardized  deviation mean, Anova, Student t test, Kruskal-Wallis Variance Analysis and Mann-Whitney U test were  used. In these analyses p<0,05 was accepted as statistically significant. The total mean score of “Quality of Nursing Work Life Scale” (QNWLS) for nurses in the study was found to be 88,76±21,23. A statistically significant difference was found between participants’ place of employment, satisfaction with the choice of the unit they serve in, satisfaction with monthly salary, incidence of vocational diseases, working conditions from their perspective, love for their profession, educational background, proper employment in compliance with their special education/certificate and the general work life quality they perceive  and the QNWLS total score  (p<0.05).In conclusion, the results obtained in the study suggest that heavy working conditions in institutions should be moderated, that more qualified nurses should be employed to ease the work load of nurses, that physical conditions in working environments should ameliorated, that the managers should ensure that nurses be employed in field in accordance with their respective specialization and that programmes should be designed to enhance the work life quality of nurses taking due account of their requests, opinions and expectations. ÖzetAraştırma, Diyarbakır ili Dicle Üniversitesi (DÜ) Hastanesinde çalışan hemşirelerin iş yaşam koşullarına bağlı olarak gelişen iş yaşam kalitesini etkileyen etmenleri belirleyip değerlendirmek amacıyla yapılan tanımlayıcı-kesitsel bir araştırmadır.Araştırma evreni, Diyarbakır D.Ü. Tıp Fakültesi hastanesinde çalışan 720 hemşireden oluşmuş ve 334 hemşire (%46.4) çalışmaya dâhil edilmiştir. Çalışmanın verileri, gerekli izinler alındıktan sonra 1 Eylül 2015- 30 Ekim 2015 tarihleri arasında demografik ve mesleki özellikleri belirlemeye yönelik 29 soruluk anket formu ile Brooks’un (2001) geliştirdiği ve Şirin tarafından (2011) Türkçeye uyarlanıp, geçerliliği ve güvenilirliği test edilen “Hemşirelik İş Yaşam Kalitesi Ölçeği” ile elde edilmiştir. Katılımcıların, görev yerleri, çalıştığı birimi isteyerek seçme, aylık gelirlerini yeterli bulma, mesleğine bağlı hastalık geçirme, değerlendirdikleri çalışma koşulları, mesleklerini sevme, aldıkları eğitim, aldığı özel eğitim/ sertifikaya uygun görevde çalışma ve algıladıkları genel iş yaşamı kalite durumları ile HİYKÖ toplam puan ortalaması arasındaki fark istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmuştur (p<0.05).Bu sonuçlar doğrultusunda; kurumlarda ağır iş koşulları hafifletilmeli, kurumlarda kalifiye hemşire sayısı arttırılarak hemşirelerin iş yükleri azaltılmalı, çalışma ortamında fiziki şartlar iyileştirilmeli, hemşirelerin uzmanlaştığı alanda çalışmaları sağlanmalı, yöneticiler hemşirelerin istek, görüş ve beklentilerini dikkate alarak iş yaşam kalitelerini arttırıcı programlar oluşturulmalı gibi önerilerde bulunulabilir.

Over the years, there have been several studies exploring the factors affecting mathematics achievement. However, no study, specifically in the Mindanao context has attempted to summarize or illustrate the model for these sets of studies. This study aims to analyze the overall effect size of the factors on the student’s achievement in mathematics. The causal-comparative research design was utilized to synthesize the existing research about the student-related, teacher-related, and school-related factors that have -greatly influenced students’ mathematics achievement. Through the use of a multi-stage sampling design, 200 existing studies were funneled down to 50 with 158 effect sizes which met the inclusion criteria coming from the different colleges and universities in Mindanao. To determine the significant factors be included in the model that significantly influence students’ achievement, Hierarchical Linear Modeling (HLM) was utilized. The findings revealed that the overall effect sizes have a small effect on mathematics achievement. On the other hand, mathematical skills, attitude, and self-efficacy are found to be the predictors of students’ mathematical achievement. Further, it was concluded that the type of school where the student is studying could cause significant variation in the effect sizes. It is recommended that educational institutions may review regularly the curriculum addressing the disparity of achievement between public and private schools. Also, teachers may utilize varied teaching strategies so that students would develop interest and positive learning attitudes towards mathematics.

To improve and facilitate patient care, hospital administrators have implemented healthcare management systems (HMS). Unfortunately, many hospitals have encountered HMS implementation problems. Some user-related factors have been proposed in the literature as important to system success. This study proposes an integrative model and empirically tests the importance of these variables as determinants of HMS impact on the jobs of nurses. Data from 213 nurses using their hospital HMS has been used to test the relationships between the independent variables and the HMS impact on the nurses' jobs. The results confirm the importance of nurse participation, training, good communication with developers, and lack of conflict regarding system implementation enabling a more desirable effect of HMS on nurses' jobs. Based on the results, recommendations are made for hospital administrators to improve the likelihood of HMS implementation success.

This paper aims to determine influence factors affecting bank service quality, calculate the relative importance of factors from viewpoints of bank customers and employees, and examine the gaps in customers and employees’ perceptions and expectations of the quality of bank services. Accordingly, an empirical investigation was conducted in one of Iranian leading banks (Bank‐e‐Refah). For data collection, an adjusted SERVQUAL questionnaire was developed and distributed among 385 customers and 305 employees. The results show significant difference between customers and employees viewpoints. Understanding the gaps helped bank managers to develop more effective customer‐oriented service plans and employees’ training and development programs.

Background Due to the increasing use of informatics as an infrastructure in developing the quality of care and patient safety, informatics competency has become a crucial requirement for nurses. Aim This study was conducted to assess nursing informatics competency, and identify related factors in registered nurses. Method This research is an analytical descriptive study in which the research community included 205 nurses working at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences’ hospitals. The researcher-made questionnaire was developed as a data collection tool (α = 98%). The data was entered into SPSS16 software and correlation analysis and regression were carried out. Results The mean score percentage of total nursing informatics competency was 59.92%. The highest mean score was related to informatics skills (62.98), followed by the informatics knowledge subscale (59%). In addition, informatics competency was positively correlated with self-efficacy ( r = 0.27, p = 0.001), evidence-based practice ( r = 0.55, p = 0.001) and time spent on hospital information systems ( r = 0.16, p = 0.01). Conclusion Computer skills, self-efficacy, evidence-based practice and time spent on hospital information systems are determinant factors of nurses’ informatics competency. Developing nurses’ basic computer skills and incorporating informatics education programmes into the curriculum can enhance nurses’ informatics competency.
