The article is devoted to the analysis of the influence on the results of a sociological study of the use of various forms of questions: open and closed on the example of the study of interethnic tolerance of high school students. The study was conducted using the traditional social distance scale developed by Emory Bogardus and its modified form as an open-ended question. The authors come to the conclusion that there are no significant quantitative (the value of the social distance scale) and qualitative (the composition of nationalities, about which the opinions of the respondents and the vector of attitudes towards them are updated) differences in the data collected using open and closed questions. At the same time, it is noted that the specifics of the respondents' answers to open-ended questions became a more positive (in accordance with both qualitative and quantitative criteria) attitude towards European ethnic groups, at the same time, a large social distance versus closed-ended questions. Another distinguishing feature of the answers to the open-ended question was the radicalism of views and less social distance to representatives of other peoples in general.

The role of school as an educational factor is to empower a young person in the field of social competences in order to enhance the sensitivity for the development of social closeness among different social groups. This research endeavor aims to further clarify the social distance among Bosnian- Herzegovinian high school students. The research sample consisted of 310 high school students (General High School in Zenica, Pale High School Center, Fr. Grga Martić High School in Mostar). The classes were randomly selected. In this study, the General Socio-Demographic Questionnaire and the Social Distance Scale were used. The findings could serve as a starting point for the creation of the inter-ethnic and inter-religious dialogue programs. They can also be an incentive for planning and programming a stronger presence of intercultural education and the education for democracy and peace in school curriculum.

This study compared the social distance scores of 84 rural high school students attending all-white high schools in an all-white section of Alabama with the scores of 214 students attending an integrated school in a small city. The students from the all-white schools expressed more favorable attitudes toward Negroes ( t = 5.27, df = 1/385, p < .001). It was not possible to arrange a re-test at the integrated school, but a re-test at the all-white schools about 6 mo. later involving 91 students showed that attitudes at these schools had improved significantly ( t = 3.68, df = 1/385, p < .001).

One hundred eighty-six high school students (grades 9 to 12) in a small midwestern town completed a paired comparisons questionnaire involving twelve exceptionalities and seven interpersonal dimensions. The exceptionalities were ordered from most to least acceptable on each dimension using the paired comparisons procedure. The results revealed that acceptance of certain exceptionalities was sometimes related to interpersonal situations, although most frequently the severely mentally retarded anchored the unfavorable end of the acceptance continuum, and the gifted anchored the favorable end. Exceptionalities reflecting mild handicaps (hard of hearing, partially seeing) were most often near the favorable end of the acceptance continuum.

Slang usage in modern age Iran is a popular phenomenon among most male and female teenagers. How pervasive this variation of language use is among various age and sex groups in Iran has been a question of debate given the significance of religion in a theological system of social structure. The work presented in this study aims to investigate the effect of age and sex on variability of slang usage. Sixty Iranian participants were selected, and then were divided into three age groups (i.e. primary school, high school, and senior university students) each group consisting of ten males and ten females. A self-made questionnaire in the form of Discourse Completion Test (DCT) describing nine situations of friendly conversations was given to the participants. They were asked to make their choice on the responses, which ranged from formal to very informal style (common teenage slang expressions), or to write down what they wish to say under each circumstance. The results of the chi–square tests indicated that slang usage among high school students is more frequent as compared with other age groups. Unlike the popular belief suggesting that slang is used by boys rather than girls, the findings suggested that young Iranians both male and female use slang as a badge of identity showing their attachment to the social group they wish to be identified with.

Two types of social goals associated with students’ academic performance have received attention from researchers. One is the social responsibility goal, and the other is the social relationship goal. While several scales have been validated for measuring social relationship and social responsibility goals in academic settings, few studies have applied these social goal scales to high school students in physical education settings. The purpose of this study was to assess the reliability, validity, and generalizability of the scores produced by the Social Goal Scale-Physical Education (SGS-PE) in high school settings. Participants were 544 students from two high schools in the southern United States. Reliability analyses, principal components factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and multistep invariance analysis across two school samples revealed that the SGS-PE produced reliable and valid scores when used to assess students’ social goal levels in high school physical education settings.

With the amount of speeches delivered on social networks that students browse continuously, it is possible to use this mechanism as an additional support for classes. This research, using this possibility, seeks to present a didactic sequence applied to high school students from a public school, whose objective is to examine the concept of logic, present in the speeches of the two main candidates for the presidency of Brazil, in 2018 The proposal is to demonstrate to students how the concepts of logic can be identified in discourses that permeate the social environment and are part of the reality experienced by students. It is hoped that this research can contribute as a reference to an activity of theory and practice, such a relevant discussion in the school scenario.
