Much research has focused upon the association between mortality awareness and mental ill-health. In this study we attempt to explore positive as well as negative psychological concomitants of mortality awareness. 170 participants were recruited in an online questionnaire study, measuring seven independent variables - marginalisation, childhood adversity, rebelliousness, time perspective, attitudes toward age and stage of life, health attitudes and demographics - and five dependent variables, specifically mortality legacy, mortality fearfulness, mortality acceptance, mortality disempowerment and mortality disengagement. Several significant bivariate associations were found. Follow-up regression analysis observed combined effects of variables accounting for 28% of variance in mortality legacy, 27% for mortality fearfulness, 13% for mortality acceptance, 42% for mortality disempowerment and 25% for mortality disengagement. Time perspective, contentment with age, and paternal antipathy and neglect were the most notable independent predictors. It was concluded that attitudes towards health, stage of life and childhood experiences significantly predict mortality awareness.

We present a review and analysis of the rich body of research on the adoption and diffusion of IT-based innovations by individuals and organizations. Our review analyzes 48 empirical studies on individual and 51 studies on organizational IT adoption published between 1992 and 2003. In total, the sample contains 135 independent variables, eight dependent variables, and 505 relationships between independent and dependent variables. Furthermore, our sample includes both quantitative and qualitative studies. We were able to include qualitative studies because of a unique coding scheme, which can easily be replicated in other reviews. We use this sample to assess predictors, linkages, and biases in individual and organizational IT adoption research. The best predictors of individual IT adoption include Perceived Usefulness, Top Management Support, Computer Experience, Behavioral Intention, and User Support. The best predictors of IT adoption by organizations were Top Management Support, External Pressure, Professionalism of the IS Unit, and External Information Sources. At the level of independent variables, Top Management Support stands as the main linkage between individual and organizational IT adoption. But at an aggregate level, two collections of independent variables were good predictors of both individual and organizational IT adoption. These were innovation characteristics and organizational characteristics. Thus, we can consistently say that generic characteristics of the innovation and characteristics of the organization are strong predictors of IT adoption by both individuals and organizations. Based on an assessment of the predictors, linkages, and known biases, we prescribe 10 areas for further exploration.

Purpose – The aim of this study is to determine social media use by consumers for travel-related purposes. Design/methodology/approach – A quantitative study was conducted after reviewing the related literature. The primary data were collected by means of an online questionnaire, and the results were analyzed using a statistical package program. Findings – The respondents use social media intensively both in their daily lives ( > 96 per cent) and in travel-related activities (95 per cent). In addition to the detailed analyses of their usage, a model was developed to identify the factors behind social media use for travel-related purposes. Research limitations/implications – As a result of an online questionnaire method, only consumers having an Internet access could respond to the survey. Additionally, the sample was not random, and the respondents were selected only from Turkey. Consequently, the study may suffer from a generalization problem, especially for markets with major different cultural characteristics. Practical implications – The findings of the study may assist academics and practitioners to better understand social media and Web 2.0 technologies and their effects on consumers. Originality/value – One of the dominant trends affecting consumer behavior and tourism marketing in recent years is the use of social media. It is critical to understand such developments and their effects on consumer behavior that may impact on the distribution and accessibility of travel-related information.

The main purpose of this study was to identify critical factors that contributed towards business sustainability among Malay women entrepreneurs in Malaysia. The independent variables were resilience and emotional quotient, and the dependent variable was business sustainability. The study focused on Malay women entrepreneurs involved in service sectors such as food service business, tailoring, and others. About 200 questionnaires were distributed randomly to Malay women entrepreneurs in Setapak, Wangsa Maju, Sentul, Keramat, and Kampung Baru. However, only 110 questionnaires were received and 100 were usable for the study. The data was analyzed using the SPSS software to test for reliability of items and relationships between the independent and dependent variables. The findings revealed that there was no relationship between Malay women entrepreneurs’ Emotional Quotient and business sustainability during the economic crisis. Interestingly, there was a positive and significant relationship between EQ and resilience among Malay women entrepreneurs.  This implies that Malay women entrepreneurs in Malaysia were highly resilient to ensure that their business was sustained during the economic crisis.  Hence, both EQ and resilience of women entrepreneurs need to be enhanced to promote business sustainability during the economic crisis.

BACKGROUND Tanzania introduced DHIS2 in 2013 to support the already existing HMIS which was largely paper-based aiming at improving data quality and use. To achieve these objectives, building human resources was imperative in the face of new technologies. OBJECTIVE This study sought to determine the perceived usefulness of DHIS2 among district health managers and their competency in using it and the generated data. METHODS This is a descriptive cross-sectional study employing a quantitative approach using a self-administered online questionnaire. The study included all core and co-opted members of the district health management team from all the districts in the country. Frequency and bivariate analyses were conducted and the differences between categories were measured using chi-square. P-values less than 0.05 were considered significant. RESULTS Overall, district health managers were satisfied with DHIS2 (80%) because of work-load reduction (82%) and easy to learn (83%), and enhances data use (86%). Although only half of the managers had user accounts (53%) and were trained on DHIS2 (48%) majority of them claimed to have an average of advanced skills in data validation (70%); produce visualization (61%); and use DHIS2 data (>60%). The biggest challenges facing health managers included using a paper-based system as a primary data source (73%) and internet slowness (60%). Whereas core members were more confident in using DHIS2 compared other members; programme coordinators were found to receive more training on data analysis and use; and more confident in using DHIS2 data compared to other CHMT members. CONCLUSIONS This study has shown that district health managers have appreciable competencies in using DHIS2 and its data. However, their level of skills is incommensurate with duration since commencement. This study recommends improvement of access to and use of DHIS2 data.
