Abstract: Indonesia is a tropical country with more than 9,600 kinds of medicinal plants; one of them is papaya. Extract of papaya leaf (Carica papaya) is presumed to have hypoglycemia effect because it contains flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin, and tannin. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of papaya leaf extract on elevated blood glucose levels on Wistar rats induced with alloxan. This was an experimental study with 18 male Wistar rats as subjects, divided into 6 groups (3 rats in each group). Group 1, the negative control group, was given aquadest only. Group 2, the positive control group, was treated with alloxan 120 mg/kg body weight (BW) followed by novomix 0.2 iu/200 g BW. Group 3 and 4 were treated with alloxan 120 mg/kg BW followed by papaya leaf extract dosing 250 mg and 500 mg/kg BW respectively. Group 5 and 6 were treated with papaya leaf extract dosing 250 mg and 500 mg/kg BW without alloxan induction. Blood glucose levels were measured on day 1, day 2, and day 3 every six hours at 0, 6, 12, 18, and 24 hours. The results showed that 250 mg/kg BW and 500 mg/kg BW of papaya leaf extract could reduce the elevated blood glucose on Wistar rats for 12 hours after treatment. Conclusion: The extract of papaya leaves could reduce blood sugar levels in hyperglicemic Wistar rats induced by alloxan. Sekitar 9.600 spesies tumbuhan merupakan tumbuhan yang berkhasiat obat, salah satunya ialah pepaya. Ekstrak daun pepaya (Carica papaya L.) diduga mempunyai efek hipoglikemia karena mengandung flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin, dan tannin. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh pemberian ekstrak daun pepaya (Carica papaya L.) terhadap kadar gula darah tikus Wistar (Rattus norvegicus) yang diinduksi aloksan. Jenis penelitian ini eksperimental. Subyek penelitian yang digunakan ialah 18 ekor tikus Wistar jantan yang dibagi menjadi 6 kelompok (setiap kelompok terdiri dari 3 tikus). Kelompok 1 (K1) merupakan kelompok kontrol negatif hanya diberikan aquades; kelompok 2 (K2) merupakan kelompok kontrol positif diberikan aloksan dan novomix 0,2 iu/200 g BB; kelompok 3 (K3) dan kelompok 4 (K4) merupakan kelompok perlakuan diberikan aloksan kemudian ekstrak daun pepaya dengan dosis 250 mg/kg BB dan 500 mg/kg BB; kelompok 5 (K5) dan kelompok 6 (K6) merupakan kelompok perlakuan diberikan daun pepaya dengan dosis 250 mg/kg BB dan 500 mg/kg BB tanpa induksi aloksan. Data diperoleh dari pemeriksaan kadar gula darah dari semua kelompok tikus Wistar pada hari ke-1, ke-2, dan ke-3 pada jam ke-0, 6, 12, 18, dan 24. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak daun pepaya dengan dosis 250 mg dan 500 mg/kg BB tikus berefek menurunkan kadar gula darah tikus wistar selama 12 jam pasca pemberian ekstrak daun pepaya. Simpulan: Ekstrak daun pepaya berpotensi memiliki efek dalam menurunkan kadar gula darah pada tikus Wistar.Kata kunci: daun pepaya (carica papaya L.), kadar gula darah, aloksan

PENGARUH PEMBERIAN EKSTRAK BUNGA DAN DAUN PEPAYA (Carica papaya L.) TERHADAP KADAR GLUKOSA DARAH TIKUS WISTAR                                  (Rattus norvegicus L.) YANG HIPERGLIKEMIKABSTRAKTelah dilakukan penelitian tentang Pengaruh Pemberian Ekstrak Bunga dan Daun Pepaya (Carica papaya L.) terhadap Kadar Glukosa Darah Tikus Wistar (Rattus norvegicus L.) yang hiperglikemik. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak bunga dan daun pepaya terhadap kadar glukosa darah tikus wistar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode uji toleransi glukosa. Digunakan 30 ekor tikus wistar jantan yang dibagi dalam 5 kelompok perlakuan yaitu kelompok kontrol positif (K+) diberi Air, kelompok kontrol negatif (K-) diberi Sukrosa, Ekstrak bunga pepaya dosis 150 mg/kg BB (B1), Ekstrak bunga pepaya dosis 260 mg/kg BB (B2), Ekstrak daun pepaya dosis 100 mg/kg BB (D1) dan Ekstrak daun pepaya dosis 170 mg/kg BB (D2). Data diperoleh dari pemeriksaan kadar glukosa darah puasa setelah tikus diinduksi aloksan secara intraperitional dan setelah masa adaptasi selama 7 hari dan masa perlakuan selama 3 hari setelah diinduksi sediaan per oral (p.o.). Pemberian ekstrak Ethanol bunga dan daun pepaya (Carica Papaya L.) berpengaruh terhadap penurunan kadar glukosa darah tikus wistar (Ratus Norvegicus L.) yang Hiperglikemik. Dosis ekstrak bunga dan daun pepaya yang efektif dalam menurunkan kadar glukosa darah tikus yang hiperglikemia akibat diinduksi dengan aloksan adalah 260 mg/Kg BB dan dosis ekstrak daun 170 mg/Kg BB atau setara dengan bunga dan daun pepaya basah 200 g.Kata Kunci : Carica papaya  L, Kadar Glukosa Darah, Aloksan, Hiperglikemik. EFFECT OF FLOWER AND  PAPAYA LEAF EXTRACT (Carica papaya L.)  ON WISTAR RATS BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVEL (Rattus norvegicus L.) The purpose of this research is to know the effect of flower and papaya leaf extract on wistar rats blood glucose level.   This research used  glucose tolerance test method. Used 30 male wistar rats divided into 5 groups of treatment that is positive control group (K+) given Water, negative control group (K-) given Sucrose, papaya flower extract dose 150 mg/kg BW (B1), papaya flower extract dose 260 mg/kg BW (B2), papaya leaf extract dose 100 mg/kg BW (D1) and papaya leaf extract dose 170 mg/kg BW (D2). Data were obtained from fasting blood glucose examination after rats induced alloxan intraperitional and after a 7-day adaptation period and a 3-day treatment period after induced oral preparation (p.o.). The giving of Ethanol flower extract and papaya leaf (Carica Papaya L.) had an effect on the decrease of blood glucose level of Wistar rats (Ratus norvegicus L.) which Hyperglycemic. The dose of flower and papaya leaf extract is effective in lowering blood glucose levels of hyperglycemic rats induced by alloxan is dose of papaya extract 260 mg/Kg BW and dose of leaf extract 170 mg/kg BW or equal of 200g  wet papaya flowers and leaves.Keywords: Carica Papaya L, Blood Glucose Levels, Alloxan, Hyperglycemic.

Abstract: Forest betel leaf (Piper aduncum L.) has been known bypublicto have efficacy in wound healing, stop vomiting, reducing nausea, aiding digestion, as an antiseptic, as well as killing bacteria, fungi and viruses. Dewi et al. found that 50 mg/kgBW and 100 mg/kgBW red betel leaf extract caused a decrease blood glucose levels in Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) induced by alloxan. This study was aimed to identify the effect of forest betel leaf extract on blood glucose levels on Wistar rats induced by alloxan. Subjects were Wistar rats with total of 15 samples divided into five groups: a negative control group and four hyperglycemic groups induced by 130 mg/kgBW of alloxan. Forest betel leaf extract was administered with dose of 25 mg/kgBW, 50 mg/kgBW, and 100 mg/kgBW on each groups of hyperglycemic rats, and group0.4 IU/100grBW of novomix injection was administered on the positive control group. Blood glucose levels were measured in the 0, 30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes on day one, two, and three. The results showed that 25 mg/kgBW, 50 mg/kgBW, and 100 mg/kgBW of forest betel leaf extract had a tendency to decrease blood glucose levels of Wistar rats induced by alloxan.Keywords: piper aduncum L., forest betel leaf, blood glucose levels, alloxan Abstrak: Daun sirih hutan (Piper aduncum L.) telah dikenal oleh masyarakat dan mempunyai khasiat dalam penyembuhan luka, menghentikan muntah, mengurangi mual, melancarkan pencernaan, sebagai antiseptik, membunuh bakteri dan jamur serta virus. Subjek penelitian berupa tikus Wistar berjumlah 15 ekor yang dibagi dalam 5 kelompok terdiri atas kelompok kontrol negatif dan 4 kelompok tikus Wistar yang diberi aloksan dengan dosis 130 mg/kgBB tikus yang menyebabkan tikus Wistar dalam keadaan hiperglikemik. Tikus hiperglikemik diberi ekstrak daun sirih hutan dengan dosis 25 mg/kgBB tikus, 50 mg/kgBB tikus, dan 100 mg/kgBB tikus, dan yang terakhir kelompok kontrol positif diberi suntikan novomix 0,4 IU/100grBB tikus. Data diperoleh dari pemeriksaan kadar gula darah pada semua kelompok pada hari pertama, kedua, dan ketiga pada menit ke-0, 30, 60, 90, dan 120. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak daun sirih hutan dengan dosis 25 mg/kgBB tikus, 50 mg/kgBB dan 100 mg/kgBB tikus memiliki kecenderungan untuk menurunkan kadar gula darah tikus Wistar yang diinduksi oleh aloksan. ABSTRACT This study aims to determine the antidiabetic activity of papaya flower ethanol extract (Carica papaya L.) against male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) induced by alloxan. This research is experimental. Fifteen rats were divided into 5 treatment groups, each group consisted of 3 rats. The first group was the negative control group given Aquades, the second group was positive control given Glibenklamid, the three groups were 200 mg dose variation groups, four groups were 400 mg dose variations, and the five groups were 800 mg dose variations. Previously, rats were examined fasting blood glucose levels, then mice were induced by an alloxan dose of 120 mg / kgBW intraperitoneally. On the 3rd day blood glucose levels were examined and then treated according to groups for 7 days, measurement of blood glucose levels after the treatment was carried out once every 3 days namely day 3, day 7, and day 10. Data obtained were then analyzed statistically using SPSS , including normality test (Shapiro-Wilk), homogeneity test (Levene), ANOVA test (One way). The results of this study indicate that Papaya Flower (Carica papaya L.) Terhadap Tikus Putih Jantan (Rattus norvegicus) Yang Diinduksi Aloksan. Penelitian ini bersifat eksperimental. Sebanyak 15 ekor tikus dibagi ke dalam 5 kelompok perlakuan masing- masing kelompok terdiri dari 3 ekor tikus. Kelompok pertama kelompok Kontrol negatif yang diberikan Aquades, Kelompok kedua Kontrol Positif yang diberikan Glibenklamid, kelompok tiga kelompok variasi dosis 200 mg, kelompok empat kelompok variasi dosis 400 mg, dan kelompok lima kelompok variasi dosis 800 mg. Sebelumnya tikus dilakukan pemeriksaan kadar glukosa darah puasa, selanjutnya tikus diinduksi Aloksan dosis 120 mg/kgBB secara intraperitoneal. Pada hari ke 3 diperiksa kadar Glukosa darah kemudian diberikan perlakuan sesuai kelompok selama 7 hari, pengukuran kadar glukosa darah setelah perlakuan dilakukan 3 hari sekali yaitu hari ke 3, hari ke 7, dan hari ke 10. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis secara statistik menggunakan SPSS, meliputi uji normalitas (Shapiro-Wilk), uji homogenitas (Levene), uji ANOVA (One way). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Ekstrak Etanol Bunga Pepaya (Carica papaya L.)  dapat memberikan efek penurunan kadar glukosa darah yang paling baik yaitu pada dosis 800 mg. Kata kunci : Antidiabetik, Ekstrak Bunga pepaya (Carica papaya L.), Diabettes Mellitus, TikusPutih Jantan (Rattus norvegicus), Aloksan.

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is metabolic disorder syndrome characterized by hyperglycemia due to deficiency of insulin secretion. Patients of diabetic patients increases each year, so it needs proper handling. Corn flour is a source of carbohydrates with a low glycemic index to help reduce the rise in blood sugar levels. In addition, supplementation with tempeh flour containing isoflavones act to protect cells from free radical thereby inhibiting damage cells. Fiber in tempeh affect blood glucose levels because it slows the absorption of glucose.Objective: To determine the effect supplementation of corn flour with tempeh flour on blood sugar levels in diabetes mellitus Wistar rats.Methods: The study was true experimental design with Pre-posttest control group design, samples were 20 male Wistar rats aged 2-3 months were then divided into 4 groups (T0, T1, T2, T3.) T0 was injected with alloxan as 30 mg / 150 grams of BB rats are subsequently treated with standard diet; T1 was dministered by standard diet 50% + 50% corn flour; T2 was administered by standard diet 50% + 30% + corn flour tempeh flour 20%; and T3 was administered by standard diet of corn flour 50% + 15% + 35% tempeh flour for 2 weeks. Blood glucose levels were measured with a glucose kit (GOD FS). Research data were analyzed by One Way ANOVA followed by Tukey's Post Hoc test p-value <0.05.Results: There were significant differences on blood sugar levels in all groups (p = 0.000): control group (only dietary standards), T1 (administered by standard diet 50% + corn flour 50%), T2 (administered by a standard diet 50% + cornstarch 30% tempeh flour + 20%) and T3 (administered by standard diet of corn flour 50% + 15% + 35% tempeh flour).Conclusion: corn flour with tempeh flour supplementation effect on decresing of blood sugar levels.

Abstract: Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) is one of many herbal medicine that have been used worldwide to prevent and treat diabetes mellitus. This research aimed to evaluate the effect of garlic bulbs extract administration on elevated blood glucose levels on Wistar rats (R. norvegicus) induced by alloxan. The subject in this research were male Wistar rats with total of 15 samples divided into 5 groups, consisting of one negative control group, one positive control group who were induce by 130 mg/kgBW of alloxan that cause the Rats in conditions of hyperglycemic, and three groups of Rats were given okra extract with dose of 0.375 ml/100 gBW of rat, 0.75 ml/100 gBW of rat , and 1.5 ml/100 gBW of rat. Blood glucose levels was measured on day zero, day one and day two every thirty minutes on 0, 30, 60, 90, 120, and every six hours on 0, 6, 12, 18, and 24. Data from the measurement showed that 0.375 ml/100 gBW, 0.75 ml/100 gBW , and 1.5 ml/100 gBW of okra extract can’t reduce elevated blood glucose levels on Wistar rats.Keywords: Abelmoschus esculentus, okra, blood glucose levels, alloxan Abstrak: Buah Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) diyakini masyarakat sebagai salah satu tanaman obat yang mampu mencegah dan mengobati penyakit diabetes. Subjek penelitian berupa tikus Wistar berjumlah 15 ekor yang dibagi dalam 5 kelompok, terdiri atas satu kelompok kontrol negatif, satu kelompok kontrol positif yang diberi aloksan dengan dosis 130 mg/kgBB yang menyebabkan tikus Wistar dalam keadaan hiperglikemik yang kemudian diinsuksi insulin, dan tiga kelompok Tikus hiperglikemik diberi ekstrak buah okra dengan dosis 0,375 ml/100 gBB tikus, 0,75 ml/100 gBB tikus, dan 1,5 ml/100 gBB tikus. Data diperoleh dari pemeriksaan kadar glukosa darah pada semua kelompok tikus Wistar pada hari ke nol, pertama, dan kedua pada menit ke-0, 30, 60, 90, 120 dan jam ke-0, 6, 12, 18, dan 24. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak buah okra dengan dosis 0,375 ml/100 gBB tikus, 0,75 ml/100 gBB tikus, dan 1,5 ml/100 gBB tikus tidak mempunyai efek menurunkan kadar glukosa darah tikus Wistar. Abstract: People sure that onion bulbs ( Allium cepa L ) has a lot of advantage for health one of which is to lower blood sugar levels. The objective of this research were study the effectiveness of administration of onion bulbs extract on blood glucose levels of Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) induced by alloxan. The subject of research using laboratory animals such as male Wistar rats that were 18 samples were divided into 6 groups, the negative control group, and 5 groups of Wistar rats with alloxan-induced hyperglycemic dose of 130 mg / kg body weight of rats. In the group with hyperglycemic rats given onion bulbs extract at a dose of 9 mg, 18 mg, and 36 mg / 200 g body weight of rats, the positive control group was given novomix flexpen, and 1 group were only given alloxan. Data obtained from the results of blood sugar tests in all groups Wistar rats on the first day, second day, third in minutes 0, 6, 12, 18, and 24 hours. Kelompok tikus hiperglikemik diberi ekstrak umbi bawang merah dengan dosis 9 mg, 18 mg, dan 36 mg/ 200 g BB tikus, kelompok kontrol positif diberikan novomix flexpen, dan 1 kelompok yang hanya diberikan aloksan. The methanolic leaf extract of Vernonia amygdalina (MLVA) was assessed to evaluate its antidiabetic potential in rats. Diabetes was induced in male Wistar rats by the administration of alloxan monohydrate at 100 mg/kg of body weight. After 48 h, rats with fasting blood glucose levels of 200 mg/dL and above were considered diabetic and used for the study. The experimental animals were grouped into five groups (A–E) of 10 animals each. Group A rats were non-diabetic normal control, Group B consisted of diabetic control rats that received no treatment, groups C, D and E rats were diabetic rats but treated with glibenclamide, 200 and 400 mg/kg doses of MLVA respectively. Blood samples were collected at days 14 and 28 after induction for haematological and serum biochemical indices such as triglycerides, LDL, cholesterols etc. The intestine was collected and intestinal homogenate was prepared for the antioxidant studies. The extract at 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg doses significantly (p < 0.05) reduced blood glucose levels in extract-treated diabetic rats and also significantly increased weight gain in these rats. Most haematological parameters in treated rats experienced, while platelets and neutrophils were decreased. Biochemical indices measured were reduced in MLVA-treated groups compared with diabetic control. Treatment with MLVA also produced significant (p < 0.05) decrease in markers of oxidative stress but increased levels of enzymic and non-enzymic antioxidant markers in intestinal homogenates of treated groups compared with diabetic control. This study showed that V. amygdalina has antihyperglycaemic and in vivo antioxidant effects.

Abstract: Garlic (A. sativumL.) is one of many herbal medicine that have been used worldwide to prevent and treat a lot of disease, for example to treat diabetes mellitus. This research aimed to evaluate the effect of garlic bulbs extract administration on elevated blood glucose levels on Wistar rats (R. norvegicus) induced by alloxan. The subjects inthis research were male Wistar rats with total of 18 samples divided into six groups as follows negative control group and five hyperglycemic groups induced by 130 mg/kgBW of alloxan. Garlic bulbs extract was administered with dose of 3 mg/200 gBW of rat, 6 mg/200 gBW of rats, and 12 mg/200 gBW on each groups of hyperglycemic rats, insulin analogue was administered on positive control groups of hyperglycemic rats, and only alloxan was given to the last group. Blood glucose levels was measured on day zero, day one and day two every six hours on 0, 6, 12, 18, and 24. Data from the measurement showed that 6 mg/200 gBW and 12 mg/200 gBW of garlic bulbs extract can reduce elevated blood glucose levels on Wistar rats. Garlic bulbs extract has shown effect on reducing elevated blood glucose levels on Wistar rats induced by alloxan.Keywords: Allium sativum L., Garlic Bulbs, Blood Glucose Levels, AlloxanAbstrak: Bawang putih (A. Sativum L.) diyakini masyarakat sebagai salah satu tanaman obat yang mampu mencegah dan mengobati berbagai penyakit, salah satunya diabetes. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji apakah pemberian ekstrak umbi bawang putih dapat menurunkan kadar glukosa darah tikus Wistar (R. norvegicus) yang diinduksi aloksan. Subjek penelitian berupa tikus Wistar jantan berjumlah 18 ekor yang dibagi dalam 6 kelompok, terdiri atas satu kelompok kontrol negatif dan lima kelompok tikus Wistar yang diberi aloksan dengan dosis 130 mg/kgBB yang menyebabkan tikus Wistar dalam keadaan hiperglikemik. Tikus hiperglikemik diberi ekstrak umbi bawang putih dengan dosis 3 mg/200 gBB tikus, 6 mg/200 gBB tikus, dan 12 mg/200 gBB tikus, kelompok kontrol positif diberi analog insulin, dan satu kelompok hanya diberi aloksan. Data diperoleh dari pemeriksaan kadar glukosa darah pada semua kelompok tikus Wistar pada hari ke nol, pertama, dan kedua pada jam ke-0, 6, 12, 18, dan 24. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak umbi bawang putih dengan dosis 6 mg/200 gBB tikus dan 12 mg/200 gBB tikus mempunyai efek menurunkan kadar glukosa darah tikus Wistar.Kata kunci: Allium sativum L., Umbi Bawang Putih, Kadar Glukosa Darah, Aloksan

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease that always increasing in prevalence. Excessive glucose intake and oxidative stress that can lead to damage to the pancreatic cell or insulin resistance, are such factors that influence the occurrence of diabetes mellitus. Graptophyllum pictum (L.) Griff leaf contains active metabolites such as flavonoid which able to decrease free radical levels. This study aimed to prove the effectiveness of Graptophyllum pictum (L.) Griff leaves extract on blood glucose levels in alloxan-induced Wistar rats. In this study, twenty-five male Wistar rats were divided into five groups. On day 0, the negative control and each treatment group injected with 125 mg/kg dose of alloxan and would be checked on 4th day. On the 4th day after the rats had diabetes, normal group (K-1) was given only standard feed, Negative control (K-2) was given only alloxan intraperitoneally on day 0, first treatment group (K-3) was given 50 mg/kg dose of Graptophyllum pictum (L.) Griff, second treatment group (K-4) was given 100 mg/kg dose of the leaf extract, and the third treatment group (K-5) was given the leaf 200 mg/kg dose of the leaf extract. On the 10th day, fasting blood glucose was taken from the rats. Post-test only group design was used to be the experimental design. There were significant differences in the treatment groups (K-3, K-4, and K-5) compared to the negative control group (K-2) after treatment. The mean of blood glucose levels decreased with the increased doses of Graptophyllum pictum (L.) Griff leaf extract treatment. The treatment groups (K-3, K-4, and K-5) were not significant compared to the normal group (K-1).

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder that occurs due to destruction of pancreatic ? cells characterized by blood glucose levels that exceed normal limits. The purpose of this study was to determine the therapeutic effect of the combination of water hyacinth leaf extract and Sintrong leaf in reducing blood glucose levels in alloxan-induced experimental animals. Water hyacinth leaf powder and Sintrong leaves were extracted using the maceration method with 70% ethanol as a solvent. A total of 25 mice were divided into 5 groups, namely negative control CMC-Na 0.5%, positive control glibenclamide 0.00065 mg / g BW, water hyacinth leaf extract 17.5 mg / kg BW, Sintrong leaf extract 10.5 mg/ kg BW and a combination of water hyacinth leaf extract 17.5 mg / kg BW and sintrong leaf 10.5 mg / kg BW. The results showed that a single extract of water hyacinth and Sintrong leaves was able to reduce blood sugar levels for 7 days. The combination dose was effective in reducing blood sugar levels with a combination dose of 17.5 mg/ kg water hyacinth leaf extract in combination for 7 days.
