Abstract: Composite resin is one of the restoration material which has the advantage in aesthetic due to its colour. This make the composite resin as a material of choice, unfortunately most of patients who have received composite resin treatment doesn’t have a proper careness to its own restoration after treatment. Aim: to study how many people who use composite resin as restoration material and to study if the restoration has any leakage after treatment. Results: the study showed that women have more composite resin restoration than men. The leakage occurred to three different subject in this research which is the most leakage happened to 2007’s student, followed by 2006’s and 2005’s. Class one Black classification is the most restoration to be found in this study followed by class 4, class 5, class 3, and class 2. The leakage which found in this study mostly occurred to molar restorations, followed by premolars while incicivus was found to be the least. Keywords: resin, composite, leakage, restoration.   Abstrak: Resin komposit merupakan salah satu jenis bahan tumpatan yang memiliki keunggulan dalam bidang estetik karena merupakan bahan tumpatan yang sewarna dengan gigi. Hal ini menjadikan resin komposit sebagai bahan pilihan restorasi, namun banyak pasien yang telah mendapatkan perawatan restorasi resin komposit kurang memperhatikan tumpatan pasca restorasi tersebut. Tujuan: penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran penggunaan resin komposit sebagai bahan tumpatan gigi pada restorasi kavitas dan mengetahui apakah telah terjadi kebocoran tepi tumpatan resin komposit pada perawatan restorasi kavitas. Hasil penelitian: menunjukkan distribusi penggunaan komposit lebih banyak pada perempuan dibandingkan laki-laki. Terjadi kebocoran tumpatan pada subjek penelitian dari tiga angkatan yang berbeda yaitu terbanyak pada mahasiswa angkatan 2007 kemudian 2006 dan 2005. Tumpatan kavitas kelas I merupakan tumpatan yang paling banyak diikuti kelas 4, kelas 5, kelas 3, dan kelas 2. Kebocoran gigi yang ditemukan pada penelitian ini terjadi paling banyak pada gigi molar kemudian premolar sedangkan insisivus paling sedikit. Kata kunci: resin, komposit, kebocoran, restorasi.

ABSTRACT Aim The aim was to evaluate the effects of Oral-B (OB), Listerine (LN) and Rembrandt Plus (RM) mouthrinses on microleakage of composite resin restorations bonded with two adhesive systems after bleaching with 10% carbamide peroxide. Materials and methods A total of 60 Cl V cavities were prepared on human premolars. The occlusal and gingival margins were placed 1 mm occlusal to and apical to CEJ respectively. The teeth were randomly divided into two groups based on the adhesive system used: Excite (EX) and Clearfil SE Bond (CSE) groups. After composite resin restoration of cavities, thermocycling and bleaching with 10% carbamide peroxide for 2 hours daily for 14 days, the teeth in each adhesive group were further subdivided into three subgroups and were immersed for 12 hours in the three OB, RM and LN mouthrinses. The teeth were then placed in 2% basic fuschin for 24 hours. After dissecting the teeth, microleakage was evaluated under a stereomicroscope at 16×. Data was analyzed with multifactor ANOVA and Bonferroni test at p < 0.05. Results Microleakage with EX was significantly higher than that with CSE (p = 0.009). Microleakage at gingival margins was significantly higher than that at occlusal margins (p = 0.15). Microleakage with OB was higher than that with LN (p = 0.02). However, there were no significant differences in microleakage between LN and RM (p = 1) and between RM and OB (p = 0.15). In addition, with the EX adhesive system, microleakage with OB was higher than that with LN and RM (p = 0.02). Conclusion In the present study, microleakage of composite resin restorations was influenced by the type of the adhesive system, mouthrinse type and the location of the cavity margin. Clinical significance Use of some mouthrinses, such as OB after bleaching can increase postrestoration microleakage of resin composite restorations bonded with etch-and-rinse adhesive systems. Resin composites is one of the currently most frequently used aesthetic restoration material. A drawback of resin composites is contraction of polimerization which may result in the coming about of dental sensitivity due to microleakage. Flowable composite has high flow capacity and better adaptation capability making the thinnest application on cavity surfaces. An advantage of flowable composite is the possibility of using it as liner in composite resin restoration, which is expected to minimize the occurrence of post restoration dental sensitivity. This research was a descriptive research using the purposive sampling technique. The sample consisted of 27 first incisive and/or second incisive permanent maxilla teeth. A sensitivity test was used on the sample using chlor ethyl and completing questionnaire by patients. The result of dental sensitivity test indicated that 88.9% of the patients did not experience post restoration dental sensitivity and 11.1% of the patients was experience a decrease of dental sensitivity level. Based on research results the conclusion could be drawn that the used of flowable composite as a liner in resin composite class III restoration didn't had a post restoration dental sensitivity.

The purpose of this article about the use of polyethylene fibers and resin composite to treat large carious tooth providing a high strength restoration within one appointment. Polyethylene fibers decrease the polymerisation shrinkage and increase the fracture resistance of the teeth. The polyethylene fibers, besides offering the proper strength to the mastication forces, as well reduce the risk of fractures, voids and micro-filtration.

Abstract Purpose To systematically review the treatment modalities for molar-incisor hypomineralisation for children under the age of 18 years. The research question was, ‘What are the treatment options for teeth in children affected by molar incisor hypomineralisation?’ Methods An electronic search of the following electronic databases was completed MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, LILACS, Google Scholar and Open Grey identifying studies from 1980 to 2020. The PRISMA guidelines were followed. The studies were screened, data extracted and calibration was completed by two independent reviewers. Results Of 6220 potential articles, 34 studies were included. Twenty studies investigated management of molars with fissure sealants, glass ionomer cement, polyacid modified resin composite, composite resin, amalgam, preformed metal crowns, laboratory-manufactured crowns and extractions. In four articles management of incisors with microabrasion, resin-infiltration and a combination of approaches was reported. Eight studies looked at strategies to mineralise MIH-affected teeth and/or reduce hypersensitivity. Two studies investigated patient-centred outcomes following treatment. Due to the heterogeneity between the studies, meta-analysis was not performed. Conclusion The use of resin-based fissure sealants, preformed metal crowns, direct composite resin restorations and laboratory-made restorations can be recommended for MIH-affected molars. There is insufficient evidence to support specific approaches for the management of affected incisors. Products containing CPP-ACP may be beneficial for MIH-affected teeth.

Objective. The purpose of this study was to test different restoration combinations used for constructing fractured endodontically treated incisors by reattaching their fractured fragments. Methods. Seven types of 3-D FEM mathematical root canal-filled models were generated, simulating cases of (OB) reattaching fractured fragments; (CrPL) reattaching fractured fragments + ceramic palatinal laminate; (CmPL) reattaching fractured fragments + composite palatinal laminate; (CM) reattaching fractured fragments + coronal 1/3 of the root was filled using core material; (BP) reattaching fractured fragments + glass fiber post; (CP) composite resin restoration + glass fiber post; and (OC) composite resin restoration. A 100-N static oblique force was applied to the simulated teeth with 135° on the node at 2 mm above the cingulum to analyze the stress distribution at the tooth. Results. For enamel tissue, the highest stress values were observed in model BP, and the lowest stress values were observed in model CmPL. For dentine tissue, the highest stress concentrations were observed around the fracture line for all models. Conclusions. Reattachment of fractured fragments by bonding may be preferred as a restoration option for endodontically treated incisors; also, palatinal laminate decreases the stress values at tooth tissues, especially at the enamel and the fracture line.

SUMMARY The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of surface roughness of resin composite on biofilm formation of Streptococcus mutans in the presence of saliva. To provide uniform surface roughness on composites, disks were prepared by curing composite against 400-grit silicon carbide paper (SR400), 800-grit silicon carbide paper (SR800), or a glass slide (SRGlass). The surface roughness was examined using confocal laser microscopy. For biofilm formation, S. mutans was grown for 24 hours with each disk in a biofilm medium with either glucose or sucrose in the presence of fluid-phase or surface-adsorbed saliva. The adherent bacteria were quantified via enumeration of the total viable counts of bacteria. Biofilms were examined using scanning electron microscopy. This study showed that SR400 had deeper and larger, but fewer depressions than SR800. Compared to SRGlass and SR800, biofilm formation was significantly increased on SR400. In addition, the differences in the effect of surface roughness on the amount of biofilm formation were not significantly influenced by either the presence of saliva or the carbohydrate source. Considering that similar differences in surface roughness were observed between SR400 and SR800 and between SR800 and SRGlass, this study suggests that surface topography (size and depth of depressions) may play a more important role than surface roughness in biofilm formation of S. mutans.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the influence of saliva contamination on the bond strength of metallic brackets bonded to enamel with hydrophilic resin composite. METHODS: Eighty premolars were randomly divided into 4 groups (n = 20) according to bonding material and contamination: G1) bonded with Transbond XT with no saliva contamination, G2) bonded with Transbond XT with saliva contamination, G3) bonded with Transbond Plus Color Change with no saliva contamination and G4) bonded with Transbond Plus Color Change with saliva contamination. The results were statistically analyzed (ANOVA/Tukey). RESULTS: The means and standard deviations (MPa) were: G1)10.15 ± 3.75; G2) 6.8 ± 2.54; G3) 9.3 ± 3.36; G4) 8.3 ± 2.95. The adhesive remnant index (ARI) ranged between 0 and 1 in G1 and G4. In G2 there was a prevalence of score 0 and similar ARI distribution in G3. CONCLUSION: Saliva contamination reduced bond strength when Transbond XT hydrophobic resin composite was used. However, the hydrophilic resin Transbond Plus Color Change was not affected by the contamination.

An uncomplicated crown fracture is a fracture that involves only the tooth enamel or the dentin and tooth enamel without any damage or exposure to the pulp. Crown fracture of the anterior teeth usually caused by traumatic forces such as falls, accidents, violence, or sports activities. Traumatic injuries of the oral region frequently involve the anterior teeth, especially maxillary incisors due to the anatomic factors which may affect the functional and aesthetical values of the teeth. The objective of this literature study was to know more about uncomplicated crown fracture of the anterior teeth and its restoration. This research was a literature study performed by researching, highlighting various interesting facts and compiling the relevant published journals. The most common and ideal direct restoration of the anterior teeth was the composite resin restoration. The anterior teeth restoration was considered to be a complex and challenging case to solves due to the fact that besides reconstructing the tooth and regaining the function, the aesthetical aspect was also becoming the main objectives. The permanent anterior teeth uncomplicated crown fracture was the most common case of tooth fractures which was mainly caused by traumatic injuries such as falls, accidents, excessive forces, violence, and also sports activities. Dental injuries of the anterior teeth also affected the aesthetical properties and the function of the tooth. Composite resin restoration was able to performed directly on the permanent anterior teeth uncomplicated crown fracture.
