Telah dilakukan penelitian yang bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi senyawa metabolit sekunder  dari ekstrak daun kaf menggunakan tiga jenis pelarut yakni n-heksan, etil asetat, dan metanol. Ekstrak yang diperoleh diuji aktivitas antibakterinya dengan metode difusi yang menggunakan bakteri Staphylococcusaureus dan Escherichia coli. Dari hasil pengujian fitokimia, ketiga ekstrak tersebut menunjukan bahwa sampel mengandung senyawa; alkaloid, saponin, steroid, flavonoid dan tanin. Pengujian aktivitas antibakteri  dengan metode difusi menunjukan hasil yang paling tinggi aktivitas antibakteri adalah  estrak etil asetat dengan zona hambat 35,75 mm terhadap bakteri  Staphylococcus aureus, sedangkan pada ekstrak metanol memiliki zona hambat 23,75 mm terhadap bakteri Escherichia coliResearch has been carried out aimed at identifying secondary metabolites of kaf leaf extract using three types of solvents, namely n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol.The obtained extracts were tested for antibacterial activity by diffusion method using Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. From the results of phytochemical testing, the three extracts showed that the sample contained compounds; alkaloids, saponins, steroids, flavonoids and tannins. Antibacterial activity testing with diffusion method showed the highest antibacterial activity was estracethyl ethyl acetate with 35.75 mm inhibition zone against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, whereas methanol had 23.75 mm inhibitory zone against Escherichia coli bacteria

This study aims to examine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract and essential oil of Kalamansi citrus leaves (Citrofortunella microcarpa) against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. The raw material of Kalamansi citrus leaves is obtained from the Village of Pondok Kubang, Bengkulu Tengah (3.70060S, 102.35780E). Ethanol extract from Kalamansi citrus leaves was obtained by maceration using ethanol 96%, then ethanol extract was made dilution concentration 40 ; 20; , 10; and 5%. The essential oil of Kalamansi citrus leaves is obtained by water-vapor distillation, then made variations of concentration 20;, 15;, 10;  and 5%. The method used to test the antibacterial activity is the paper disc diffusion method , the antibacterial activity is shown by the diameter of the inhibiting  zone formed. The data of antibacterial test result were analyzed by using One Way Anova test which showed the effect of treatment on the growth of test bacteria seen from the value (P <0,01) and continued by Duncan test to know the effect of the treatment. The results showed that ethanol extract of Kalamansi citrus leaves had antibacterial activity against S. aureus and E. coli bacteria with moderate inhibitory diameter is  7.20 and 5.73 mm at concentration 40%, while antibacterial activity on essential oil of Kalamansi citrus leaves is categorized as strong with inhibition zone diameter is 14.83 and 13.00 mm at concentration 20%.

Objective: Colletotrichium capsici endophytic fungi isolated from Jamblang plant (Eugenia cumini  L).  The secondary metabolites of this plant has the potent antibacterial efficacy  as well as diarrheal and anti-diabetic. This research focussed on isolation of the endophytic microbes from branches of Jamblang plants and their secondary metabolites.Methods: Isolation of endophytes were performed in PDA(potato dextrose agar) using direct seed plant. Endophytic fungi isolates with strongest antimicrobial activity against the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli were fermented in Potato Dextrose Yeast (PDY) to produce  large scale of the metabolites.  Supernatant was extracted with ethyl acetate solvent. Ethyl acetate extract fractionated by column chromatography (SiO3, n-hexane- ethyl acetate = 50:1 ~ 1:1) and obtained three fractions. Further, agar diffusion method was performed to assess their anti-microbial activity.Results:  Antibacterial  test  results  indicated that fraction III had  the antibacterial  activity Staphylococcus aureus with  inhibition zone diameter  of 10.7 mm but no observed antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli.  Furthermore, identification  by GC-MS showed that compounds present in fraction III was mainly fatty acid and phenolic compounds.Conclusion:  In conclusion, secondary metabolites isolated from Jamblang plants branches contained predominantly fatty acid and phenol related compounds that could be responsible for its potent anti microbial activity. Keywords : Endophytic fungi, Jamblang (Eugenia cumini L.), antimicrobial activity

The discovery of new antibiotic drugs is getting more and more reactive. The plant of the peria laut leaf is one of the drugs that is often used as a traditional medicine and contains bioactive compounds of polyphenols, flavonoids, and saponins, which can inhibit antibacterial growth. Purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of peria laut leaves (Colubrina asiatica L.) against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. Method the experimental, of the sample used was concentrated marine peria laut leaf extract of 25mg/ml, 50mg/ml, 75mg/ml, 100mg/ml, 200mg/ml, 300mg/ml, 400mg/ml, and 500mg/ml, positive control of amoxicillin tablet 500 mg, negative control of dimethylsulfoxide with the method of disc diffusion testing using media Nutrient Agar. Results the showed thet the peria laut leaf extract positively contained bioactive alkaloid compounds, flavonoids, saponins, steroids, and tannins, and had inhibitory effects on Staphylococcus aureus and Escgerichia coli bacteria with various concentrations which had been tested on the average area of the highest inhibition zone of 18,6 mm in Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, and 10,2 mm in Escherichia coli bacteria. Conclusion peria laut leaf extract (Colubrina asiatica L.) has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria in the most inhibitory zone at a concentration of 500mg/ml with a diameter of 18,6 in Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and 10,2 in Escherichia coli.

ABSTRACT Marine biota such as algae has been developed to be used as a source of medicinal raw materials in the pharmaceutical industry. Extracs from Turbinaria ornata algae J. Agardh showed antibacterial activity. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of the Turbinaria ornata (Turner) J. Agardh fraction obtained from the waters of the Manado Bay against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. The method used in this study is an experimental laboratory. Turbinaria ornata (Turner) J. Agardh was extracted by maceration method with ethanol 96% solvent followed by fractionation and antibacterial activity testing with diffusion method. Antibacterial activity was determined based on the results of the clear zone measurements formed around the disc paper. The results showed that the methanol at a concentration of 10%, 20%, 30%, fractions of 30% ethyl acetate, and fractions of 20% and 30% n-hexane, have antibacterial activity which is categorized strongly in both bacteria of S. aureus and E. coli, while ethyl acetate fractions with a concentration of 10% and 20% againts S.aureus is in the moderate category. Likewise the antibacterial activity of n-hexane fraction with a concentration of 10% againts E. coli was included in the medium category. Keywords: Turbinaria ornata (Turner) J. Agardh yang diperoleh dari perairan Teluk Manado terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah eksperimental laboratorium. Turbinaria ornata (Turner) J. Agardh diekstraksi dengan metode maserasi dengan pelarut etanol 96% dilanjutkan dengan tahap fraksinasi dan pengujian aktivitas antibakteri dengan metode difusi. Aktivitas antibakteri ditentukan berdasarkan hasil pengukuran zona bening yang terbentuk disekitar kertas cakram. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fraksi metanol pada konsentrasi 10%. 20% ,30%, fraksi etil asetat konsentrasi 30%, dan fraksi n-heksana pada konsentrasi 20%, 30% memiliki aktivitas antibakteri yang dikategorikan kuat pada kedua bakteri yaitu  S. aureus dan E. coli, sedangkan fraksi etil asetat dengan konsentrasi 10% dan 20% pada bakteri S. aureus termasuk dalam kategori sedang. Begitu pula aktivitas antibakteri fraksi n-heksan dengan konsentrasi 10% terhadap E. coli termasuk dalam kategori sedang. Kata kunci : Turbinaria ornata (Turner) J. <p>This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of C-4-methoxyphenylcalix-[4]resorcinarene modified by Hexadecyltrimethylammonium-Bromide (Resorcinarene-HDTMA-Br) against <em>Staphylococcus aureus</em> and <em>Escherichia coli</em> bacteria. The study was conducted by testing the inhibition zone diameter with paper disc diffusion method. Variations in the concentration of the sample used were 10%; 15%; 20%; 25%; and 30% b/v. In this study, Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) (sampel solvent) was used as a negative control and Chloramphenicol as a positive control. It was found that Resorsinarene-HDTMA-Br had higher antibacterial activity than the unmodified C-4-methoxyphenylcalix[4]resorcinarene (CMFKR) against the <em>S.</em><em> </em><em>aureus</em> bacteria. Both CMFKR and Resorcinarene-HDTMA-Br are not active against <em>E. coli</em>.</p>

Telah dilakukan penelitian dengan tujuan menguji aktivitas antibakteri dari beberapa Gorgonia yang berasal dari Perairan Pulau Bunaken Manado. Tahapan penelitian yaitu pengambilan sampel gorgonia pada lokasi Perairan Bunaken Manado dengan metode purposive sampling, identifikasi, ekstraksi dengan metode maserasi, peremajaan bakteri uji dengan metode goresan, pembuatan larutan Mc. Farland, pengujian aktivitas antibakteri dengan metode Kirby-Bauer. Bakteri uji yang digunakan adalah Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, dan Edwarsiella tarda. Hasil penelitian dari ke 9 sampel Gorgonia teridentifikasi 7 sampel Gorgonia yaitu Annella sp, Melithaea sp, Astrogorgia sp, Mopsella sp *cf, Siphonogorgia geodeffry *cf,  Gorgonia sp, dan Iciligorgia sp *cf serta 2 sampel yang belum teridentifikasi. Pengujian antibakteri didapatkan untuk bakteri uji Staphylococcus aureus, ada 4 sampel yang memiliki zona hambat dengan kategori sedang, 1 sampel dengan kategori kuat dan 4 sampel tidak memiliki zona hambat tetapi memiliki zona halo. Bakteri uji Escherichia coli, ada 5 sampel memiliki zona hambat dengan kategori sedang, 1 sampel dengan kategori kuat dan 3 sampel tidak memiliki zona hambat tetapi memiliki zona halo. Bakteri uji Edwarsiella tarda, ada 2 sampel memiliki zona hambat dengan kategori sedang, dan 7 sampel tidak memiliki zona hambat tetapi memiliki zona halo. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa ke 9 sampel Gorgonian memiliki sifat bakterisida (membunuh bakteri) dan bakteriostatik (menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri)The aim of the research to examine the antibacterial activity of some Gorgonian from Bunaken Island Waters. The stages of the research are Gorgonian sampling, identification, extraction by maceration method, making Mc. Farland solution, and testing the antibacterial activity by the Kirby-Bauer method. The test bacteria used Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Edwarsiella tarda. The results of the nine Gorgonian samples were identified namely Annella sp, Melithaea sp, Astrogorgia sp, Mopsella sp *cf, Siphonogorgia geodeffry *cf, Gorgonia sp, and Iciligorgia sp and three unidentified samples. Antibacterial testing was obtained for the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, there were four samples that had medium inhibitory categories, one sample with strong category and four samples did not have inhibitory zones but had a halo zone. Escherichia coli bacteria, there are five samples having inhibition zone with medium categories, one sample with strong category and three samples do not have inhibitory zone but have a halo zone. Edwarsiella tarda bacteria, there are two samples having inhibition zone with medium categories, and seven samples do not have inhibitory zone but have a halo zone. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the nine Gorgonian samples have bactericidal and bacteriostatic properties

Senduduk (Melastoma malabathricum L.) is one of the wild plants used as traditional medicine. Senduduk leaves are used as a medicine for sprue, boils, diarrhea and smallpox. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract of senduduk leaves of the against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Senduduk leaves extracted by maceration using 96% ethanol solvent. Antibacterial activity testing is carried out using the diffusion method using paper discs.This experiment was repeated three times using concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60% and 80%.Ethanol extract of the senduduk leaves contains flavonoids, saponins, tannins and steroids/triterpenoids. The test results showed that the ethanol extract of the leaves has antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus which is characterized by the inhibition zone formed around the disc paper. In Escherichia coli bacteria the smallest inhibition zone at a concentration of 20% with a diameter of inhibition zone 11 mm and the largest diameter of the inhibitory zone at a concentration of 80% with a diameter of inhibition zone 19 mm. whereas for the smallest inhibitory zone Staphylococcus aureus bacteria at a concentration of 20% with an inhibition zone diameter of 12.6 mm and the largest inhibitory zone dameter at a concentration of 80% with a diameter of the inhibitory zone 21,3 mm.The results of the study concluded that the ethanol extract of Senduduk leaves has antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.

Antibacterial Activity of Infused Aloe Vera Leaf (Aloe Vera L) on Growth Of Stapylococcus aureus and Escherichia coliDisinfectants may act as antibacterials. Aloe vera (Aloe vera L) is one of the plants that is often used by the community as a medicinal plant that has many active compounds such as lignin, saponin and anthraquinone substances that act as antibacterial. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of Aloe vera leaf extracted with infusa method on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. The research method is to see the reduction / reduction of bacterial count (% reduction) after 30 second and 60 second with disc diffusion method. The results showed decrease or decrease of bacteria count (% reduction) to Escherichia coli bacteria found in aloe leaf skin infected by 28,2% after 60 seconds. While decrease or decrease of bacteria amount (% reduction) to Staphyloccocus uareus bacteria infusa mixture of meat and skin of Aloe vera leaves of 27.5% after 60 seconds. Antibacterial test of aloe vera leaf aloe (Aloe veraL) of 100% concentration by disc diffusion method did not show any inhibition zone around cultures of test bacteria.Keywords: Aloe vera, antibacterial activity, Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli, Infusa.ABSTRAKDesinfektan dapat berfungsi sebagai antibakteri. Lidah buaya (Aloe vera L) merupakan salah satu tanaman yang sering digunakan masyarakat sebagai tanaman obat yang memiliki banyak senyawa aktif seperti lignin, saponin dan antrakuinon yaitu zat yang berfungsi sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri daun lidah buaya (Aloe vera L) yang diekstrak dengan metode infusa terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Metode penelitian yaitu dengan melihat penurunan/pengurangan jumlah bakteri (% reduksi) setelah waktu 30 detik dan 60 detik dengan metode difusi cakram. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan penurunan atau pengurangan jumlah bakteri (% reduksi) terhadap bakteri Escherichia coli terdapat pada infusa kulit daun lidah buaya yaitu sebesar 28,2 % setelah waktu 60 detik.Sedangkan penurunan atau pengurangan jumlah bakteri (% reduksi) terhadap bakteri Staphyloccocus uareus terdapat pada infusa campuran daging dan kulit daun lidah buaya yaitu sebesar 27,5 % setelah waktu 60 detik. Uji antibakteri infusa daun lidah buaya (Aloe veraL) konsentrasi 100% dengan metode difusi cakram tidak menunjukkan adanya zona penghambatan disekitar biakan bakteri uji.Kata kunci : Lidah buaya, Aktivitas antibakteri, Staphylococcus aureus, dan   Escherichia coli,   Infusa.

Hornstedtia scyphifera var. fusiformis Holttum is endemic plant of Zingiberaceae family that distributed in Sumatera. Hornstedtia scyphifera var. fusiformis Holttum contained some secondary metabolite such as phenolic, saponin, triterpenoid and alkaloid. The biological activity of methanol, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane extracts from Hornstedtia scyphifera var. fusiformis Holttum suspended roots was tested for antibacterial and antioxydant activity. Antioxidant activity was analized by DPPH method. The antibacterial activity  was tested by used disk difussion method againts Staphylococcus aureus bacteria (gram-positive bacteria) and Escherichia coli (gram-negative bacteria). Almost all of Hornstedtia scyphifera var. fusiformis Holttum suspended roots extract were given antibacterial activity, nonetheless the biggest inhibition zone of Escherichia coli that was inhibited by n-hexane and ethyl acetate extracts which have inhibition zone 10 mm at  concentration 500 mg/L and also againts Staphylococcus aureus, the biggest inhibition by ethyl acetate and n-hexane extracts which have inhibition zone 10.30 mm at concentration 500 mg/L. Among all extracts tested, methanol extract of the possessed moderate free radical scavenging activity with IC50 = 51.89 mg/L.
