Scylla serrata is one of the dominant muddy crabs caught in Mantehage Island coastal waters, North Sulawesi. The study was aim to determine the temporal distribution of S. serrata condition i based on carapace length - weight relationship and its condition factors. Data carapace width and weight of muddy crabs collected by enumerators from Oktober 2014 to April 2015. The results showed that b value of male (2.219 – 2.835) and female (1.264-2.352) were significantly different (P<0.05). Male and female crabs have a negative allometric growth pattern with b value of males tend to be larger than females. Range of values for K and Kn male crabs longer than females that male crabs tend to be fatter. Temporal distribution of this mangrove crab condition factors is assumed to be related with the reproductive cycle. The value is increasing since October to a peak season in January which estimated related to a peak of the muddy crabs spawning season in Mantehage Island coastal waters.   Key words: growth potential, Mantehage Island coastal waters, Scylla serrata _____________________________________________________________________ 1Staf Pengajar Fakultas Perikanan dan Ilmu Kelautan UNSRAT A b s t r a k   Scylla serrata merupakan salah satu jenis kepiting bakau yang dominan tertangkap di perairan Pulau Mantehage Sulawesi Utara. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi pertumbuhan kepiting bakau ditinjau dari hubungan panjang karapas dengan berat. Data panjang karapas dan berat kepiting bakau dikumpulkan melalui nelayan setempat sebagai enumerator sejak Oktober hingga April  2015. Hasil menunjukkan nilai b antara kepiting jantan (2,219 – 2,835) dan betina (1,264 - 2,352) berbeda nyata (P<0,05). Keduanya memiliki pola pertumbuhan allometrik negatif dengan nilai b kepiting jantan cenderung lebih besar dibandingkan betina. Kisaran nilai K dan Kn menunjukkan kepiting jantan lebih panjang dibandingkan betina sehingga kepiting jantan cenderung lebih gemuk. Sebaran faktor kondisi kepiting bakau diduga terkait dengan siklus reproduksinya. Nilai faktor kondisi meningkat sejak bulan Oktober 2014 hingga puncaknya pada bulan Januari 2015yang diduga pada saat tersebut merupakan puncak musim pemijahan kepiting bakau di perairan P. ABSTRACT Mangrove crab (Scylla serrata) and swimming crab (Portunus pelagicus) are economically important marine commodities produced from the coastal waters of Sangihe Islands Regency. But those marine commodity products are usually only caught accidentally with a bottom gill net. There has been a special trap fishing gear for that resources, but not known well by local fishermen. Addition of squid oil extraction baits could increase the fishing power of mangrove crab and swimming crab traps. This research aims to study the effect of squid oil extract on traps bait to catch mangrove crab and swimming crab; and identify the types of biota captured. This research was done in coastal waters of Malise village, Tabukan Tengah District of Sangihe Islands Regency for 2 weeks September 2015; based on experimental method. Six unit traps were operated ten trips where three units of them used scad mackerel bait that injected with squid oil extract, and tree other units just used scad mackerel bait without extract; and the capture data were analyzed using t test. The catch was 142 individuals (135 mangrove crabs and 7 swimming crab); where 86 crabs was caught by scad mackerel bait with squid oil extract, and 56 crabs caught with bait without squid oil extract. The analysis showed that the use of squid oil extracts on trap baits increased the catch. Tetapi komoditi hasil laut tersebut biasanya hanya tertangkap tanpa sengaja (by catch) dengan jaring insang dasar. Sebenarnya telah ada alat tangkap bubu khusus untuk kepiting bakau dan rajungan, tetapi belum dikenal oleh nelayan lokal. Pemberian ekstrak minyak cumi pada umpan, diduga dapat meningkatkan kemampuan tangkap dari bubu kepiting bakau dan rajungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari pengaruh ekstrak minyak cumi pada umpan bubu terhadap hasil tangkapan kepiting bakau dan rajungan, dan mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis biota yang tertangkap. Penelitian ini dilakukan di perairan Malise Kecamatan Tabukan Tengah, Kabupaten Kepulauan Sangihe; selama 2 minggu pada bulan September 2015; yang didasarkan pada metode eksperimental. Enam unit bubu dioperasikan selama sepuluh trip untuk mengumpulkan data; di mana tiga unit menggunakan umpan ikan layang yang disuntikan ekstrak minyak cumi, dan tiga unit lainnya hanya menggunakan umpan ikan laying tanpa ekstrak; dan data dianalisis dengan uji t. Tangkapan total berjumlah 142 ekor (135 ekor kepiting bakau dan 7 ekor rajungan); di mana 86 ekor tertangkap dengan umpan layang yang diberi ekstrak minyak cumi, dan 56 ekor tertangkap dengan umpan tanpa ekstrak. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan ekstrak minyak cumi pada umpan bubu, memberikan hasil tangkapan yang sangat berbeda dibandingkan dengan umpan tanpa ekstrak minyak cumi. Kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata) merupakan salah satu spesies kunci dalam ekosistem mangrove yang memegang peranan yang sangat penting. Hutan mangrove yang ada di Kelurahan Belawan Sicanang sudah banyak mengalami konversi lahan seperti tambak dan pemukiman. Kondisi ini menyebabkan terjadinya penurunan kualitas habitat dan penurunan populasi untuk sumberdaya kepiting bakau akibat terjadinya kerusakan daerah asuhan dan mencari makan biota ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kondisi ekologi mangrove, untuk mengetahui kelimpahan kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata), untuk mengetahui pertumbuhan kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata) di Hutan Mangrove Kelurahan Belawan Sicanang Kecamatan Medan Belawan Provinsi Sumatera Utara. Penelitian berlangsung pada Mei - Juni 2016. Metode yang digunakan dalam penentuan lokasi adalah purposive sampling dan dibagi menjadi 3 stasiun berdasarkan aktivitas yang berbeda. Struktur populasi kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata) ditinjau dari kelimpahan kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata), hubungan lebar karapas dengan bobot tubuh, pola pertumbuhan, dan faktor kondisi. Kualitas habitat kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata) dilihat dari kualitas air, tekstur substrat, C-organik, dan pasang surut. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa kelimpahan kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata) 16300 - 17000 ind/ha, dengan pola pertumbuhan allometrik negatif (b<3), faktor kondisi berkisar antara 0 - 1 yang tergolong ke dalam pipih atau tidak gemuk. Kualitas air dan substrat yang dikaji termasuk ke dalam kualitas air yang menunjang kehidupan kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata), tekstur substrat yaitu lempung berpasir dan lempung liat berpasir, serta C-organik < 1% tergolong sangat rendah, dimana tipe pasang surutnya adalah mixed prevailing semidiurnal.Mangrove crab (Scylla serrata) is one of the keystone species in the mangrove ecosystem, which had a very important role. Mangrove forests existed in Village Belawan Sicanang have been many experienced land conversion as embankment and settlements. These conditions led to degradation in habitat quality and population decline for mangrove crab due to the occurrence of the damage to the nursery ground and the feeding ground. The research aimed to determine abundance mangrove crabs and to determine the growth of mangrove crab. The research took place in May - June 2016. The method used in the determination of the location is purposive sampling and divided into 3 stations based on different activities. The mangrove crab population structure in terms of the abundance of mangrove crab, carapace width relation with body weight, growth pattern, and factor condition. The quality habitat mangrove crab viewed the water quality, the substrate texture, C-organic, and tides. The results showed that the growth pattern was negative allometric (b < 3), factor condition ranges between 0 - 1 which classified into flat or not fat. The water quality and substrate were assessed included in the water quality that supported life mangrove crab, the substrate texture was sandy loam and sandy clay loam, C-organic classified < 1% was very low, the type of tides was mixed semidiurnal prevailing.

ABSTRAKKepiting bakau (Scylla serrata) merupakan salah satu potensi komoditas perikanan skala kecil yang memiliki nilai ekonomi tinggi. Kelimpahan populasi dipengaruhi oleh upaya penangkapan dan kondisi ekosistem mangrove sebagai habitat utamanya. Produksi kepiting bakau di Teluk Bintan menurun dan penyebabnya belum diketahui dengan pasti. Oleh karena itu, perlu dilakukan kajian tentang biologi kepiting bakau di Teluk Bintan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji status populasi kepiting bakau yang meliputi struktur ukuran, parameter pertumbuhan dan laju mortalitas dan eksploitasi. Pengambilan data kepiting bakau dilakukan dengan pendekatan yaitu fisher-based survey. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ukuran kepiting bakau yang tertangkap mulai dari lebar karapas (CW) 64-172 mm, ukuran fase muda kepiting jantan yang tertangkap mencapai 46,62% dan betina mencapai 48,06%, keduanya hampir setengah dari tangkapan total, ini menunjukkan bahwa alat tangkap yang digunakan belum selektif. CW∞ jantan mencapai 176,93 mm lebih tinggi dari kepiting betina sebesar 169,58 mm, namun sebaliknya nilai koefesien K jantan (0,360) lebih kecil dari betina (0,390), sehingga pertumbuhan kepiting bakau betina lebih cepat dari jantan. Perkiraan angka kematian alami (M) jantan = 0,5566 dan kematian akibat penangkapan (F) jantan = 0,6434 sedangkan M betina = 0,59 dan F betina = 0,41. Laju eksploitasi (E) kepiting jantan mencapai 53,62%, ini dapat dikatakan telah terjadi lebih tangkap atau over eksploitasi. Kata kunci: Scylla serrata, parameter pertumbuhan, struktur ukuran, mangrove and Teluk Bintan ABSTRACTMud crab (Scylla serrata) is one of the potential of small-scale fishery commodities that have high economic value. The abundance of the population is affected by the fishing effort and conditions mangrove ecosystem as its main habitat. Mud crab production in the Gulf of Bintan declined and the cause is not known with certainty. Therefore, it is necessary to study on the biology of mud crab in the Gulf of Bintan. This study aims to assess the status of mangrove crab population that includes the size structure, parameters of growth and the rate of mortality and exploitation. Data retrieval is done with a mangrove crab fisher-based survey. The results showed that the size of mud crab caught from carapace width (CW) 64-172 mm, the size of the young phase male crabs caught females reached 46.62% and reached 48.06%, both are almost half of the total catch, it indicates that fishing gear used is not selective. CW∞ males reach 176.93 mm higher than the female crabs of 169.58 mm, but instead value koefesien K males (0.360) is smaller than females (0.390), so that the growth of female mud crabs faster than males. Estimated natural mortality rates (M) male = 0.5566 and deaths from arrest (F) male = 0.6434 while M females female F = 0.59 and = 0.41. The rate of exploitation (E) male crabs reached 53.62%, can be said to have occurred over fishing or over-exploitation. Keywords: Scylla serrata, growth parameters, structure size, mangrove and bay Bintan

The land crab Ucides cordatus is a keystone species of neotropical mangrove forests and an important resource of the artisanal fisheries. The spatial and temporal distribution of U. cordatus in the mangrove area of the Piraquê-açu river estuary was determined following a longitudinal estuarine salinity gradient (lower, middle, upper estuary) and along the vertical intertidal gradient. The numbers of open and closed burrows were counted monthly on fixed transects, the inhabiting crabs were caught, sexed and the carapace width measured, during 1 year. The mean crab density was 2.5 ind.m-². The highest crab density (3.9 ind.m-²), linked to high numbers of juvenile crabs, was found on the upper estuary and correlated with lower salinities. High intertidal levels had higher crab densities than lower intertidal levels, except in the upper estuary. Males were smaller than females; the mean carapace width of the population was 4.89 cm, below the minimum legal harvesting size (6 cm). The predominance of females over males at some sites (especially close to villages) brought out the advanced level of overfishing of this U. cordatus population and highlights the urgent need of management actions.

Kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata) merupakan jenis kepiting yang banyak ditemukan di beberapa daerah, salah satunya di Perairan Desa Bandengan, Kendal. Kepiting bakau setiap harinya ditangkap oleh nelayan, keadaan ini dapat mempengaruhi terhadap populasi kepiting bakau. Fase bulan dapat memberikan pengaruh terhadap kepiting bakau, seperti pada tingkah laku kepiting bakau. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui pola pertumbuhan kepiting bakau pada  fase bulan mati dan purnama di Perairan Desa Bandengan Kendal. Metode yang digunakan yaitu bersifat deskriptif eksploratif. Pengambilan data dilakukan sebanyak 6 kali periode pada 28 Desember 2019 – 9 Maret 2020, data dari kepiting bakau meliputi panjang karapas, lebar karapas, berat tubuh, jumlah kepiting bakau, dan parameter perairan. Jumlah kepiting bakau yang diperoleh selama penelitian sebanyak 212 ekor bulan mati dan 236 ekor bulan purnama. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pola pertumbuhan kepiting bakau jantan bulan mati bersifat allometrik positif, sedangkan pada kepiting bakau betina bersifat allometrik negatif. Sedangkan, pada purnama 1 bersifat allometrik positif, bulan purnama 2 dan  bulan purnama 3 bersifat allometrik negatif, sedangkan kepiting bakau betina bersifat allometrik negatif. Mud crab (Scylla serrata) is a type of crab that is found in several areas, one of which is in the waters of Bandengan Village, Kendal. Every day mud crabs are caught by fishermen, this situation can affect the mangrove crab population. The moon phase can affect mud crabs, such as the behavior of mud crabs. The purpose of this study was to determine the growth pattern of mud crabs in the new moon and full moon phases in the waters of the village of Bandengan, Kendal. The method used is descriptive exploratory. Data collection was carried out 6 times during the period on 28 December 2019 - 9 March 2020, data from mud crabs included carapace length, carapace width, body weight, number of mangrove crabs, and water parameters. The number of mud crabs obtained during the study was 212 new moons and 236 full moons. The results showed that the growth pattern of male mud crabs in the new moon was positive allometric, while the female mud crabs were negative allometric. Meanwhile, full moon 1 is allometric positive, full moon 2, and full moon 3 allometric negatives, while female mud crabs are allometric negative.

The mangrove forest are natural and renewable. resources Mangrove has the physical, chemicaland biological function which highly support the fulfillment of human needs and serve as a bufferbalance of the ecosystem in coastal areas. One of the functions associated with the mangrovebiological existence as a source of diversity of marine life. Marine life is affected by the presenceof mangrove forests among mangrove crab (Scylla serrata) to maintain the ecological balance andcause the energy cycle running fast. This study aims to determine the condition of environmentalfactors, the relative fitness and spatial distribution of mangrove crabin the mangrove forests BlockBedul Kali Segoro Alas Purwo National Park. Data from the study are described and classified bysimilarity of environmental factors, then performed multiple linear regression betweenenvironmental factors with relative fitness and spatial distribution of mangrove crabs. The resultsshowed that the average relative fitness mangrove crabs at all the research station is 69 with astandard deviation of 13.51. Spatial distribution of mangrove crab at any observation station isless than 1, so it can be concluded that the distribution is uniform. Environmental factors withrelative fitness mud crab significant correlation, but no significant correlation betweenenvironmental factors with the spatial distribution of mangrove crabs. The research aims to find out the correlation of carapace width – weight, condition factor and abundance of mangrove crab based on observation time and sex in the coastal waters of Maros district, South Sulawesi. This research provides information on the pattern of growth and chubbiness of mangrove crabs and its abundance in the coastal area of Maros district, South Sulawesi. The study was conducted from early February until the end of April 2019. Sampling was conducted on the coastal area of Kuri Lompo and estuary of Maros which is an integrated mangrove pond development (silvofishery). 213 mangrove crabs (120 male and 93 female) obtained from fishermen were measured. The coefficient b of male and female mangrove crabs in February and March were 3.3626 and 2.6674, respectively. In April, b value of male and female mangrove crab was 3.5965 and 2.6506, respectively. This relation shows the growth type for males is allometric-positive whereas for females is allometric-negative. In April also saw the same growth coefficient in the previous month allometric positive for males and allometric negative for females. In general, the condition factor of male mangrove crabs in February and March is greater than female mangrove crabs. While, in April the condition factor of female mangrove crab is greater than male mangrove crab. The nature of condition factor of mangrove crab represents the distribution of crab abundance in the embankment lane silvofishery development area of 0.015 ind./m2.

ABSTRAK : Kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata) adalah jenis kepiting yang hidup di perairan pantai, tambak, dan hutan bakau (mangrove). Kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata) merupakan komoditas ekspor bernilai ekonomis tinggi yang sangat potensial untuk dikembangkan dan memiliki nilai ekonomis yang tinggi di Indonesia, terutama kepiting yang sudah dewasa serta gemuk. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui karakteristik morfometrik kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata) seperti kelimpahan relatif kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata), distribusi lebar karapas, dan hubungan lebar karapas – berat kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata). Analisis yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu kelimpahan realatif kepiting dan analisis regresi. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Februari – April 2019 di Kecamatan Wedung, Demak. Materi yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah sampel kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata) hasil tangkapan nelayan di daerah tersebut. Kepiting bakau hasil tangkapan nelayan tersebut dihitung jumlahnya, diidentifikasi jenis kelaminnya, diukur lebar karapas dan ditimbang beratnya.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata) yang tertangkap pada bulan Februari – April 2019 diperoleh 300 individu yang terdiri dari 202 jantan dan 98 betina. Rata – rata ukuran lebar karapas tertinggi berkisar 9.8 cm pada hasil tangkapan di bulan Februari. Hubungan lebar karapas – berat Kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata) baik jantan maupun betina menunjukkan pola pertumbuhan allometrik negatif. ABSTRACT : Giant mud crab (Scylla serrata) are types of crabs that live in coastal waters, ponds, and mangrove forests. Giant mud crab (Scylla serrata) is a high economic value export commodity that has the potential to be developed and has high economic value in Indonesia, especially crabs that are mature and fat. The purpose of this study was to determine the morphometric characteristics of giant mud crab (Scylla serrata) such as relative abundance of giant mud crab (Scylla serrata), carapace width distribution, and the relationship between carapace width - weight of giant mud crab (Scylla serrata). The analysis used in this study is the relative abundance of giant mud crab and regression analysis. This research was conducted in February - April 2019 in the subdistrict of Wedung, Demak. The material used in this study was a sample of giant mud crab (Scylla serrata) from the fishermen catch in the area. The giant mud crab captured by the fishermen are counted, identified by sex, measured in carapace width and weighed. The results showed that giant mud crab (Scylla serrata) caught in February - April 2019 obtained 300 individuals consisting of 202 males and 98 females. The highest average carapace width ranges from 9.8 cm in catches in February. Relationship between carapace and weight of giant mud crab (Scylla serrata) both male and female showed negative allometric growth patterns.

Peningkatan jumlah ekspor kepiting (Scylla serrata Forskal, 1775) di wilayah perairan Asahan memacu peningkatan penangkapan yang dapat berpengaruh terhadap populasi dan kelestarian. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik populasi dan tingkat pemanfaatan kepiting bakau di perairan Asahan dan sekitarnya. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan setiap bulan dari Januari sampai dengan Nopember 2016 di tempat pendaratan kepiting oleh enumerator. Data dianalisa dengan metode Electronic LEngth Frequency Analisys-I (ELEFAN-I) dari FAO-ICLARM Stock Assessment Tools II (FiSAT II). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pola pertumbuhan kepiting bakau bersifat allometrik negatif pada kisaran lebar karapas antara 85 - 175 mm dan bobot tubuh 127 – 1.152,5 gram. Rata-rata ukuran lebar karapas tertangkap dengan jaring dan bubu adalah 118,6 mm dan ukuran matang gonad pertama kali adalah 120,6 mm. Laju pertumbuhan (K) 1,38 per tahun dan lebar karapas maksimum (CW) sebesar 201 mm. Laju kematian total (Z) sebesar 3,59 per tahun, laju kematian karena penangkapan (F) dan laju kematian alami (M) masing-masing 2,27 per tahun dan 1,32 per tahun. Laju pemanfaatan (E) kepiting bakau di perairan Asahan adalah 0,63 per tahun atau sudah melebihi nilai optimum penangkapan. Agar sumber daya kepiting terjamin kelestariannya, maka harus dilakukan pengurangan upaya penangkapan sekitar 26 %.Increase in the volume of giant mud crab exports (Scylla serrata Forskal, 1775) in the Asahan waters stimulate the increasing catches that affect population and sustainability. The data were analyzed using Electronic Length Frequency Analysys-I (ELEFAN-I) method available in FAO-ICLARM Stock Assessment Tools II (FiSAT II) program. The results showed that the growth pattern of giant mud crab was negative allometric with carapace width between 85 - 175 mm and individual body weight 127 - 1,152.5 grams. The average carapace’s width caught by net and trap was 118.6 mm and the size of gonad first maturity was 120.6 mm. Growth rate (K) 1.38 per year and maximum carapace width (CW) of 201 mm. Total mortality rate (Z) of 3.59 per year, mortality rate due to fishing (F) and natural mortality rate (M) was 2.27 per year and 1.32 per year respectively. The rate of exploitation (E) of mangrove crab in Asahan waters was 0.63 or has exceeded the optimum value. For the sustainability of crab resource a reduction of 26% in fishing effort is suggested.
