In this current generation, there is great popularity of student in using internet as well as the web 2.0 for different purposes in their daily life, for instance, the primary uses found are for the email, communication and academic-related work. Nonetheless, according to the past research, there determined there is loose relationship between the technology (such as the Facebook as the Web 2.0 technology)) used by the students for their learning purposes. Also, such studies are usually conducted in the Western countries rather than in the Asian countries such as Malaysia. Thus, the research aim is to determine the usefulness of the social networking sites toward Malaysia tertiary education’s student life of social and learning and to investigate whether Facebook could be a preferred SNS choice by the students in aiding their learning and social life. Self-administered questionnaires would be distributed to 200 students who studying at Malaysia tertiary education institution located across Klang Valley. As a result, this study has determined there is positive relationship between the usefulness of the social networking sites toward Malaysia student life of social and learning

This study attempts to the Web 2.0 Social Networking Sites for Collaborative Sharing Research Information by the Social Science Research Scholars at Alagappa University, Karaikudi. A sample size 97 Scholars was selected by random sampling method. The data required for the study were collected through a questionnaire. The findings of the study: 30.9% of the respondents using Facebook/ WhatsApp along with most highly used in the popular web browser used for Google chrome 72.2% Google chrome. 48.5% of respondents’ preference of “Very Strongly Agree” Collaborate with Research projects and Teams. Whereas 46.4% “Research Collaboration “Strongly agree” of the respondents respectively. 30.9% purpose of Web 2.0 for Collaborations of Research Communication while 19.6% Opportunities and Learning for Web 2.0 tools support social interaction in the learning process of the respondents respectively.

This chapter describes one of the Web 2.0 technologies, Social Networking Sites (SNS). A definition of SNS is offered, as is a short history of these sites. The existing research is reviewed and organized to summarize what we know about SNS usage (from the perspectives of student use, general population use and organizational use), and what we know about the antecedents and outcomes of SNS use. The chapter concludes with discussion of new developments, challenges and opportunities. There are many opportunities for future research and organizational applications of SNS as SNS adoption grows at incredible rates.

This paper investigated application of web 2.0 to private university libraries of northern part ofNigeria based on Mannes theory which emphasizes on changing scenario of librarianship withthe presence of the web, (10) private university libraries website which are of quality and ICTcompliant by Nigerian standard were surveyed to identify the presence of web 2.0 toolapplication and purpose for application. Only (4) 40% had applied web 2.0 tool, the mostapplied web tool was WebOPAC followed by social networking sites, and (1) private universitylibrary had applied RSS, no other web tool have been applied. Even with the web 2.0 boom andadvantages web 2.0 provides to library professional for interaction, the application is still verymuch low in Nigerian libraries. The study recommends Training of library professionals,provision of ICT infrastructure, restructuring of library school curriculum.

In light of the increasing importance of Social Networking Sites (SNSs) for both personal and professional relationships, the aim of this work is to contribute to the knowledge framework regarding the interactive behaviour of Internet users, particularly within Web 2.0, describing its evolution from Web 1.0. Moreover, this paper analyses the different behaviours on the Web by people who use or not use SNSs, as well as to determine whether any such differences are significant in order to discover the reasons why these people participate. As results, initial characterization of the users themselves is followed by an analysis of the main differences between users and non-users of these applications. With this information, companies can play an active role in this Social Web by becoming company 2.0 and participating actively in already existing SNSs or creating their own social network service.

This chapter presents an introduction to an overview of the rise of social networking platforms, systems, and tools within tertiary education, through an analysis and exploration of one such platform, namely the popular social networking website Facebook. Social networking sites, like other Web 2.0 services, emphasize online socialization, collaboration, user-driven content generation, and sharing among users. They enable different forms of pedagogy equally as they disable and challenge more traditional teaching and learning approaches within tertiary education. In this chapter, various criticisms, challenges, and concerns in relation to the incorporation of the new tools within the student learning experience are explored. The chapter seeks to illuminate some of the educational possibilities of incorporating Web 2.0 social network structures provided by websites such as Facebook into academic courses, and to offer suggestions for effectively leveraging these emergent social networks to enhance the student learning experience.

With the arrival of the internet, cell phones, e-mail, instant messaging and social networking sites we can do many wonderful things electronically now that make our lives easier and more productive. We should get used to the idea that a good part of our social life can happen in cyberspace. You can keep up with your friends and meet new ones through a keyboard, microphone and a webcam. You can send a detailed e-mail, send a quick message or alert your circle of friends and followers about the latest details what's happening around you. At the same time, we should come to terms with the fact that the cyberspace is flooded with attacks from people who are unscrupulous in their intent to damage others in the cyberspace. The attacks date back to the time when telephone was invented, when the attackers found way to invade people's privacy. For most users, the web is just part of a well-rounded life that includes both a cyber world and a real world. The internet can be helpful, educational and fun. But It can also become an obsession leading to waste of time and money. Just because cyberspace is virtual, that does not mean that there are not real dangers out there. The same sort of bad people who can cause problems for people in the “real” world are also lurking on the internet. They spend their time looking for ways to steal your money, ruin your name or even cause you harm.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the use of social networking sites among learners of English as a foreign language (EFL) in Saudi institutions of higher education. The actual study was conducted at the King Saud University (KSU). Reports on the extent to which the students are familiar with social media and the manner in which they utilize the technology were obtained. The research also examines the perception of students regarding the use social networking sites in their learning. The percentage of students using the social media and their frequency of visiting the sites also form part of the discussion of this paper. This is in an attempt to draw a clear picture of how the utilization of this new technology is emerging in Saudi higher education. The findings are discussed in light of students’ actual use and their perceived beliefs about the use of such technologies in their learning and social life.

The use of social networking sites and Web 2.0 tools is increasing. Research shows that education via Web 2.0 tools increases students' motivation and their interest in the learning. Therefore, a teaching environment can be created using social networking sites in which Web 2.0 tools allow effective learning. In this chapter, some of the Web 2.0 tools available for effective virtual learning environment creation are examined. Suggestions are provided regarding possible uses of tools such as Classmint, Pinterest, Voki, Screenleap, Pageflip-flap, Youtube, Prezi, Secondlife, Animoto, Sketchfu, and Quizrevolution, and their positive effects on students.

In this context, blogs, micro-blogs, collaborative projects (wikis and social bookmarking), content communities, social networking sites, and virtual worlds have been examined. Eventually, it can be expected that blogs will provide more transparent feedback; micro-blogs will provide instant feedback; wikis will make the cooperative efforts of product development easier; social bookmarking will enable search-engine marketing; content communities will enable easy product training; social networking sites will create brand communities; and virtual worlds will provide new places to interact more effectively. All of these tools can come into prominence in the context of marketing.
