A practising doctor in his own surgery has a professional responsibility to earn a regular income for the maintenance of his existence and his employees. Professional risks arise from his activity, which the doctor should regulate with appropriate insurances and powers of attorney. Which of these insurances do doctors have and how important do doctors feel it is to take out such insurances? Are updates made to the insurance policies and what criteria do doctors use to decide for or against insurance? In order to answer this questions, in-depth interviews, mostly face-to-face, were conducted with five doctors of different specialities, professional experience in their own surgery. It was found that doctors contracted insurances that were obligatory, the professional liability and known from their private environment, the legal expenses insurance. Likewise, some insurances were considered unnecessary (i.e. cyber risk) and insurances that sound very similar were confused (i.e. business interruption). The decision-making behaviour for and against insurance was also very different and no clear trend emerged. Due to the rather small sample, further interviews and surveys are necessary to show whether the result is consolidated. It is also advisable to delve deeper into the decision-making behaviour of doctors.

Abstract This article highlights how cyber risk dependencies can be taken into consideration when underwriting cyber-insurance policies. This is done within the context of a base rate insurance policy framework, which is widely used in practice. Specifically, we show that there is an opportunity for an underwriter to better control the risk dependency and the risk spill-over, ultimately resulting in lower overall cyber risks across its portfolio. To do so, we consider a Service Provider (SP) and its customers as the interdependent insurer’s customers: a data breach suffered by the SP can cause business interruption to its customers. In underwriting both the SP and its customers, we show that the insurer can increase its profit by incentivizing the SP (through a discount on its premium) to invest more in security, thereby decreasing the chance of business interruption to the customers, and increasing social welfare. For comparison, we also consider a scenario where the insurer underwrites only the SP’s customers (but not the SP), and receives compensation from the SP’s insurance carrier when losses are attributed to the SP. We show how the insurer’s best strategy is to underwrite both the SP and its customers. We use an actual cyber-insurance policy and claims data to calibrate and substantiate our analytical findings.

Myanmar is the developing country and its education system is not yet to international level. Hence, most of the young adults, who like to upgrade their knowledge global wide and to gain international recognized higher educational certificates, choose to study overseas rather than continuing higher education after their high education nowadays, that becomes the trend of young people to study overseas since the competency among the people is getting intense based on the education level in every industry. The purpose of this research is to understand that students’ decision making process of selecting university. The study will be conducted to see clear trend of Myanmar students’ decision making of studying in abroad. This research will cover the context of what is Myanmar students’ perception of abroad, how they consider among other countries and explaining those factors which determine Myanmar students’ choice and how they decide to study abroad.

As soon as decision makers are expected to make differences towards sustainable future, young adults’ ability to make informed and sound decisions is considered essential towards securing our planet. This study provides an insight into young adults’ knowledge of key environment and sustainability issues. To answer the key research questions, data were obtained using a qualitative phenomenographic research approach and collected through 18 face-to-face in-depth interviews with research participants. The findings of this study suggest that young adults lived experiences that play a huge role in their level of awareness of topical environmental and sustainability issues critical to humanity’s future on earth.

Objectives: This study examines whether police behavior that signals higher quality of treatment or decision-making leads to higher perceived procedural justice. Methods: Analyses are based on data collected during police traffic controls of moped drivers in two Dutch cities over a period of six months. Police behavior was measured through systematic social observation (SSO), and data on perceived procedural justice were collected through face-to-face interviews immediately after the encounters. Linear regression analysis with bootstrap estimates was used (n = 218), with an overall perceived procedural justice scale as the dependent variable in all regressions. Independent variables included an overall observed procedural justice index and four separate scales of police treatment and decision-making. Results: We find no evidence that police behavior that signals fairer treatment or decision-making leads to higher perceived procedural justice. Conclusions: Our findings add to the currently very limited empirical evidence on an important question, and raise questions about a central idea, that more procedurally just treatment and decision making by authorities leads to an increase in perceived procedural justice and enhanced compliance. The first of these requires more research.

This work aims to study the web innovation strategies used by Spanish companies in the fashion and accessories sector, with the specific aim of analyzing co-creation as an innovation strategy so that this link with customers will improve efficiency and effectiveness in decision-making. Qualitative research was carried out through in-depth interviews with Spanish professionals and companies in the fashion and accessories sector. Then, a theoretical model was proposed. This model integrates value co-creation, social networking, participation, engagement, feedback, and other variables. This qualitative analysis has relevant value for the professional sector because there are many papers from consumers’ perspective; however, studies from the retail sector’s perspective are less common in the literature. This study contributes ideas for the strategy of co-participation with clients to improve the activity and management of fashion companies.

Abstract Background/Aims  In an era of increasingly stretched health care resources, accompanied by pressures to deliver more care for people with long term conditions remotely, we need innovative solutions to measure disease activity. In the case of monitoring rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a robust method of capturing reliable Disease Activity Score (DAS-28) information remotely could reduce patient visits to hospitals and free up clinic space. Information would ideally be captured from a home setting by a patient. However, self-reporting of DAS-28 has limited reliability especially at moderate or high levels of disease activity. A mechanism for remotely ascertaining DAS-28 which is both accurate and precise would improve remote management for people living with RA. Methods  We undertook a study to assess patient attitudes regarding a novel remote RA monitoring platform, which uses images and video captured movements to estimate DAS-28. The study involved a semi-structured 30-minutes video interview. Participants were adults with RA living in the UK. The interviews focused on these key areas: i) an overview of their history with the condition, ii) familiarity with DAS-28, iii) relationship with the clinical team, iv) relationship with technology and telemedicine, v) feedback on the RA monitoring platform. Results  Eleven subjects participated in the study. They reported a median disease duration of 11 years (range: 4 to 35), and all had experienced flares, with 10/11 familiar with the DAS-28 prior to the study interview. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, most patients only had contact with clinicians or healthcare facilities over the phone, with only one patient having visited a hospital for a reason not directly related to RA, and one patient having no contact at all. Overall, patients expressed enthusiasm towards the RA monitoring platform and were confident that they would be able to use it at home. Access over the Internet was not perceived as a barrier, and the advantages of tracking disease progression regularly, sharing data with the consultant and saving time travelling to appointments far outweighed the disadvantages. Participants generally reported that they would most benefit from a blended interaction with the clinical team, combining face-to-face appointments with use of the platform at home rather than seeing the platform as a complete alternative to face-to-face assessment. Conclusion  This study provides the first insight into the perception and acceptance of the RA monitoring platform in a small sample of RA patients. Results are positive, and support further evaluation of the platform. The literature on sustainable tourism is scant, particularly in the least developed countries. Very few studies touch upon the concept and no holistic theoretical or conceptual frameworks around the idea of sustainable tourism have been formulated. This study aims at exploring the role of tour operators in developing sustainable tourism in Pakistan and how the tour operators (TOs) conceive their role in this regard. TOs were reached through phone calls, emails, and virtual sources as face-to-face interviews were not possible due to COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on travel by the government. In-depth interviews were conducted to gather data. Results suggest that the TOs although realize the importance of social, environmental, and economic dimensions of tourism on the communities but have no management systems in place to cater accordingly. There are no incentives in place by the government facilitate TOs to design and implement such systems. The TOs do not select a destination based on Global Sustainable Tourism Council criterion, but rather the selection of destination is mostly demand-based and profit-oriented. The study suggests that corporate profit motive is the sole criterion for decision making and is one of the major causes impeding sustainable tourism in Pakistan. The role of TOs in developing sustainable tourism is vague as the TOs do not have any systems in place to implement sustainable models. The study recommends that efforts need to be put in place to incentivize sustainable tourism in Pakistan and proper laws should be set forth by the authorities to comply by the TOs. The role of TOs is important and understood, however, there is a need to put proper systems in place.

Purpose Throughout Macedonia, beekeeping is becoming popular regardless of ethnicity. Studying ethnicity, the purpose of this paper is to determine what beekeepers in Macedonia thought in their own words about their beekeeping entrepreneurship. The objective is to identify whether motivations of ethnic Albanian beekeepers in Macedonia were the same or different compared to those of ethnic Macedonians in the same country, and if different, how. Design/methodology/approach To accomplish this objective, in-depth interviews were conducted with 40 beekeepers in Macedonia. A total of 29 interviews were conducted face-to-face and the other 11 by phone. The first set of interviews took place between December 2016 and February 2017, followed by more interviews in June 2017. In total, 27 respondents said they were ethnic Albanians, and 13 identified themselves as ethnic Macedonians. Also, ten respondents were women. While eight were full-time beekeepers, 32 were part-time beekeepers. Findings The results indicated that beekeeping businesses play a significant role in the transition economy of Macedonia. Beekeeping provides additional earnings that support rural families and keeps them financially stable. The majority of both Albanians and Macedonians understood that beekeeping on a part-time job basis provided a needed supplement to their income. Some part-time beekeepers are also working as auto-mechanics, locksmiths, medical doctors, restaurant/cafeteria owners, and tailors. A few in the sample were retired from their jobs or full-time beekeepers. An important difference between ethnic Albanian beekeepers and ethnic Macedonians in Macedonia is that the majority of ethnic Albanian participants see beekeeping as following in “my father’s footsteps”, while most Macedonians were motivated by the perceived opportunity of having a good business. Research limitations/implications Limitations of the research are twofold. First, financial data of family beekeeping are not available, which would be useful in determining the contribution made to economic development. It is common, especially in transition economies such as the western Balkans, that financial results are very sensitive to their owners. Second, unavailable databases for beekeepers make any quantitative approach difficult, if not impossible, resulting in most research using the qualitative research approach. Originality/value This paper is one of the first to treat beekeeping as a form of artisan entrepreneurship, which also contributes to the understanding of family business. As in other countries, the important and operation of the family business among family members in Macedonia is passed from generation to generation. The results of this research revealed the value of networking, which was found to be very important to income. For beekeepers to develop, grow, and be branded in the community, networking is an important ingredient.

This article identified network characteristics critical for successful agricutural innovations within networks, or a set of interrelated organizations aiming at knowledge exchange for innovations. To explore key success factors, the research questioned how networks cope with innovation characteristics and combined network characteristics with four innovation characteristics in four agricultural sub-sectors. Data were collected from in-depth interviews with farmers and network coordinators and from focus group discussions with farmers active in Flanders, the northern part of Belgium. Factors particularly helpful for success in agricultural innovation networks include numerous contacts, integration of knowledge providers in the network structure, face-to-face communication, a self-initiated coalition and surpassing innovation beyond the mere agricultural level, through collaboration with people from outside the sector. The findings are useful for academics, network coordinators and network members, possibly leading to a higher innovation performance via networking.
