This study aims to reveal students’ perception on the use of comic strips in creative writing at English Education Department, Universitas Negeri Manado. The study is a quantitative research and the descriptive method is applied. The questionnaire that consists of 14 items is used as an instrument to collect the data. The questionnaire employs Likert scale. Total random sampling is used to determine the sample. The sample is 42-seventh students English Education Department which consist of 27 students from class A and 15 students from class E. The students who have been chosen as the sample has already finished the class creative writing and has used comic strips as media. The collected data are quantitative and have analysed by percentage formula. The finding shows that most of the respondents have positive responses about the use of comic strips in creative writing. Based on the findings, it could be concluded that the media comic strips are considered useful to the students. English lecturers are suggested to receive students’ responses towards the use of comic strips in creative teaching.

This research was aimed to know how far the students’ understanding of digital literacy, to know how high the students’ writing originality, and to know the correlation between students’ understanding of digital literacy and students’ writing originality. Digital literacy is someone’s capability to use the digital device, receive, communicate process, evaluate, and share the information cognitively and technically. Originality is emphasized in writing because it is used as the measurement of the writers’ idea and creativity in writing. This research used correlational study to check the correlation between variable. The population of this research was the 2015th generation of English Education Department Students of IAIN Salatiga. It used cluster random sampling to decide the sample of this research. Class A was used as the sample of the research that consisted of 32 students. The data that was collected was analyzed using SPSS 20. Based on the data analysis, it resulted that r(count) 0.83 > r (table) 0.349. From the result, it can be concluded that there was positive perfect correlation between digital literacy understandings with student’s writing originality

Prodi Pendidikan Biologi Fakultas Tarbiyah IAIN Ar-Raniry merupakan salah satu lembaga yang telah mengirimkan mahasiswanya untuk melaksanakan PPL di beberapa sekolah di Banda Aceh, beberapa diantaranya yaitu di sekolah MAN Model, MAN Rukoh, dan MAN 2 Banda Aceh. Berdasarkan kenyataan tersebut maka dirasa perlu untuk diketahui kompetensi mahasiswa dalam melaksanakan PPL. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kompetensi yang dimiliki mahasiswa PPL pada MAN Kota Banda Aceh yang meliputi penguasaan materi ajar, pengelolaan program belajar mengajar, pengelolaan kelas, penggunaan media, penguasaan landasan-landasan pendidikan, pengelolaan interaksi belajar mengajar, dan penilaian prestasi belajar siswa. Untuk memperoleh data maka penulis menggunakan penelitian dengan metode deskriptif. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa PPL Prodi Pendidikan Biologi Fakultas Tarbiyah IAIN Ar-Raniry pada MAN Kota Banda Aceh sebanyak 3 orang. Data dikumpulkan dengan teknik observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Dari data yang telah dikumpulkan diperoleh gambaran bahwa mahasiswa PPL Prodi Pendidikan Biologi Fakultas Tarbiyah IAIN Ar-Raniry pada MAN Kota Banda Aceh masih kurang kompeten dalam hal penguasaan materi ajar, pengelolaan program belajar mengajar, Pengelolaan kelas, dan Pengelolaan interaksi belajar mengajar. Sementara dalam hal penggunaan media mereka sudah dianggap sangat berkompeten. Akan halnya penguasaan landasan-landasan pendidikan serta kemampuan pengevaluasian hasil belajar sudah dikategorikan berkompeten. Kata Kunci: Kompetensi, Mahasiswa PPL dan Pengajaran One of the programs of Biology Education Department of Tarbiyah Faculty of IAIN Ar-Raniry is sending its students to have teaching practice (PPL) at some schools in Banda Aceh, among others are at MAN Model Banda Aceh, MAN Rukoh and MAN 2 Banda Aceh. It is needed to know the competency of its students in doing the teaching practice. This article is aiming at describing the competence of Biology Education Department students in doing teaching practice at several schools in Banda Aceh. The focus competences are in the field of mastering the teaching material, managing the teaching learning process and classroom, using media, mastering pedagogic, managing teaching learning interaction and assessing students’ achievement. To gain the data, the writer did a descriptive method. The subject of this research was 3 students of Biology Education Department from each targeted schools. The data gathered by using observation, interview, and document analysis. The result showed that the students of Biology Education Department who took teaching practice program at three school in Banda Aceh were still have low competency in the area of mastering teaching material and classroom management as well as the management of teaching learning interaction. Meanwhile, in the field of managing the media, they were classified into really competence. The students’ pedagogic mastery and assessment skill was catagorized into competence. The purpose of this study is find how students’ perceptions of using YouTube in Vocabulary Mastery. YouTube is online Video sharing platform which allows users to upload, view, and share video from all over the world therefore can also as media online learning especially in mastering vocabulary. The researchers use quantitative research and the sample of this research is 37 students in seven semester of English Education Department, Universitas Negeri Manado. Researchers use questionnaire as instrument in collecting the data. Questionnaire is one of research instrument, which aims for collecting data in survey research and also can be thought of as kind of written interview. The type of questionnaire that used in this research is closed-ended questionnaire. It is used like scale questionnaire in data collection and analyzed in statistical descriptive. Optional for the questioner measuring from strongly agrees, agree, neutral, disagree and strongly disagree. The result in this research is found by seeing the responses of students after distributing the questionnaire and collecting the data. As the result mostly students give positive perception using YouTube in vocabulary mastery and even give good impact to their ability especially in class environment.  Keywords     :    Vocabulary, YouTube, Students’ Perceptions

This research was conducted to improve students’ activeness at structure class by sharing their idea, comment, questions and structure mastery. This research applied slido.com application as the media to teach. It was a classroom action research which had been conducted in two cycles. The subjects of this research were the third semester students of English Education Department of IAIN Salatiga. The writer took one of 3 classes as the sample of the research randomly. The researcher observed the improvement of students’ activeness at structure class by collecting the data through observation and measurement technique. The data were in the form of observation checklist and field notes, documentation, and students’ task. The data which were collected were analyzed to know the description of the class activity and the learning progress.  After the cycles conducted, it resulted that there ware improvement in students’ activeness in delivering questions, giving comments, and doing simple task. The description of result was also proven with the students’ mean score improved from 51 in their pre-test into 67 in the second cycle. It can be drawn a conclusion that there is an improvement in students’ activeness in the structure class taught using slido application.

Covid-19 significantly influences teaching and learning activities. Lecturers need to be more creative to optimize the available electronic tools for supporting the teaching and learning process. Many problems faced by both lecturers and students, especially in private university whose its students are from economically low society, when they are disrupted by this condition. Creative teaching and learning process is needed to make the class more effective and attractive. Besides, it also shapes the students’ minds to follow every sophisticated change and condition in the future by seeking the exact and creative problem-solving. This research aims to describe the implementation of the online creative pedagogical learning models in English Education Department students on Extensive Reading course. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method, which is designed as classroom action research. This research conducted in English Education Department of Hasyim Asy’ari University Tebuireng Jombang, with 25 participants. The result of this research shows that online creative pedagogical models can be used for solving students’ problems, such as Google Classroom, Youtube, and Instagram TV for a synchronous meeting, and Google Meet for an asynchronous meeting. The result shows that those media suitable for implementing creative onli also become alternatives for students who have limited access to the internet because they live in remote areas or have low budgets, but those media are practical and effective.

The purpose of the research was to examine (1) whether or not the HOTS instruction was more effective than the LOTS (Lower Order Thinking Skills) instruction in teaching speaking for daily context to the first semester students at English Education department; (2) whether the students who had high self-motivation had better speaking ability than those who had low self-motivation; and (3) whether there was an interaction between teaching strategies and students’ self-motivation. By using a quantitative research with the quasi-experimental type, the data were derived from tests and questionnaires. The results show that (1) HOTS instruction is more effective than the LOTS instruction in teaching speaking for daily context to the first semester students at the English Education Department; (2) the students who have high motivation have better speaking skills than the students who have low motivation; (3) there is an interaction between teaching strategies and motivation in teaching speaking for daily context. It can be concluded that HOTS instruction is an effective strategy in teaching speaking viewed from students’ motivation. The effectiveness of the strategy is affected by students’ motivation.

This research presented analysing the students’ ability to use gerund and present participle at English Education Department of Sorong Muhammadiyah University and the factors affecting the students’ ability to use gerund and present participle.This research used descriptive method with the test and questionnaire instruments. The test consisted of 30 items and the questionnaire consisted of 23 items. The population of the research was the students of English Education Department of Sorong Muhammadiyah University in academic year 2011/2012 that consistent of 423 students. The sample of this research consisted of 43 students taken by applying purposive sampling technique. The result of the data analysis indicated that the students’ ability to use gerund and present participle was poor. It was indicated by the rate of percentage of the students’ score obtained through in which out of 43 students, 3 students (7 %) got very poor score, 19 students (44.2%) got poor score, 20 students (46.5%) got fairly score, and 1 (2.3%) students got good score. While none of them got very good score. The mean score of the test was 5.41 that falls into poor classification. The finding showed that the factors affected the students’ ability to use gerund and present participle because the same form of gerund and present participle, the students did not know about the use of gerund and present participle and the students lack ability of memorizing.

This research aims at developing the syllabus and instructional materials for Reading course series in English Education Department, Ganesha University of Education. This Reading course comprises four series: Reading I (Literal Reading), Reading II (Intepretive Reading), Reading III (Critical Reading) and, Advanced Reading (Reading from the Media). The research was inspired by preliminary findings about unclear transition and focus of each serial of reading course. These include the degree of complexity and coverage of the texts, instructional strategies and teaching strategies. As a matter of fact, reading is a stepping stone for developing other language skills such as writing, speaking and listening (Guthrie& Kirsch, 2007). The first year of the research has resulted in the adapted syllabus and blueprint for the material development. In the second year the instructional materials for levelled reading courses were developed and validated and was checked its relevance and readability. Data analysis found that the product was highly relevant to the syllabus and provide with Engliah language teaching. This indicates that the quality of the product can be categorized as very good and as systematic gradation, focus, depth and scope.

The problem of the research is factors that influencing the students’ writing skill. This research wasconducted at English Education Department FKIP Lancang Kuning University, Pekanbaru. Using DescriptiveResearch focusing on the second year students of class A consisting of twenty five students. This research tries to explain the factors influencing the improvement of the students’ writing skill. The instruments of this research were observation, field notes, and interview. After analyzing the data, it was found that factors influence the improvement of the students’ writing skill were material, media, classroom activities, classroom management, teacher’s strategy, and teacher’s approach. In conclusion, materials, media, classroom activities, classroom management, teacher’s strategy, and teacher’s approach are factors that influence the students’ writing skill.

Motivation, almost at all aspects, gives a big impact for senior high school students to choose a major or study program at a university. The motivation itself can be both intrinsic and extrinsic. This study aims to investigate the motivation of students to choose English Education department at university. The subjects and sample of this research were 37 students of batch of 2015 and 2016 majoring in English Education of Sultan Agung Islamic University (UNISSULA) Semarang, Indonesia. This is descriptive quantitative research. Observations and questionnaires were used to collect the data needed. The data was then analyzed by using descriptive statistical analysis. As results, it was eventually found that 81.1% of the students of English Education have strong intrinsic motivation which leads them to choose English Education as their major. This selection was due to students� curiosity and passion to increase their potential and skills in English.Keywords: English education, students� motivation, university
