Smartphone revolution, the rise of OTT (Over the Top) technology, and growth of mobile application drive explosion in data demand and erosion of legacy service, which voice and SMS (Short Messaging Service) revenue. It forces mobile telecommunication operators to explore new revenue sources through new business development by taking the opportunity across technology, media, and telecommunication (TMT). Telkomsel Mitra Inovasi (TMI), Telkomsel Corporate Venture Capital (CVC), conducts non-organic business development through investment in an early-stage startup from TMT sectors. January 2020, TMI followed in Series B1 funding of the Internet of Things (IoT) startup. The investment evaluation utilizes two factors which capital gain and incremental revenue to existing Telkomsel business. There is uncertainty in financial return on high-risk investments in a new startup company, and existing Telkomsel IoT provides smart connectivity services. However, connectivity will become increasingly commoditized, declining from 9% of total IoT revenue in 2018 to 5% in 2025. Consequently, Telkomsel IoT should expand its role to seize the incremental revenue opportunities. This research project uses discounted cash flow (DCF), secondary data to predict expected financial return after capturing possible risk investment for sound management decisions.

This qualitative case study features SteadyServ, a beer inventory monitoring solution vendor, and its internet of things (IOT)-based radio frequency identification (RFID)-enabled technology solution. IOT-based information technology systems are powering new business models and innovative cloud-supported solutions addressing use cases in many industries. At this early stage, IOT is taking off in monitoring premises, products, supply chains, and customers. Content analysis of primary and secondary data was used to interpret this firm's RFID-enabled IOT solution's deployment at the firm's customer sites. Two theoretical frameworks were used in the attempt to understand the IT solution experiences of customer firms: socio-technical systems theory and affordances theory.

PurposeTo increase sustainability of their products and enable new business opportunities, manufacturers explore servitization in consumer markets. Yet, the literature has not addressed this development. This study is one of the first to investigate the challenges and benefits for manufacturers and their supply chains when engaging in business-to-consumer (B2C) servitization.Design/methodology/approachThe study explores two unique cases of manufacturers of complex consumer products that aim to extend their service offerings to the end-users. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews, observations and secondary data.FindingsFirst, the authors identify two factors as prerequisites for a servitized set-up: internal collaboration within the manufacturer and product characteristics (e.g. product complexity). Second, the authors identify the network as an important factor for B2C servitization, which includes the triadic set-up between manufacturer, installer and consumer. Third, the authors identify moderating institutional settings, such as regulations and consumer needs.Originality/valueThis research elaborates existing B2B servitization theory into an empirically informed theoretical framework for B2C contexts. It expands the view on servitization by introducing the network perspective to service a large number of geographically dispersed customers.

AbstractFunding for early-stage biomedical innovation has become more difficult to secure at the same time that medical breakthroughs seem to be occurring at ever increasing rates. One explanation for this counterintuitive trend is that increasing scientific knowledge can actually lead to greater economic risk for investors in the life sciences. While the Human Genome Project, high-throughput screening, genetic biomarkers, immunotherapies, and gene therapies have made a tremendously positive impact on biomedical research and, consequently, patient lives, they have also increased the cost and complexity of the drug development process, causing many investors to shift their assets to more attractive investment opportunities. This suggests that new business models and financing strategies can be used to reduce the risk and increase the attractiveness of biomedical innovation so as to bring new and better therapies to patients faster.

Badan Usaha Milik Desa thereafter called BUMDes is an alternative to improve the rural economy. Unfortunately, however, the position of BUMDes had not been governed completely in existing legislation. Another more complex problem is that in choosing an appropriate enterprise for establishing BUMDes. This study aims to describe the impact of BUMDES on the welfare of rural communities. BUMDES is one of the programs to strengthen the role of the region.This research was conducted using a qualitative approach and used in-depth interview and observation techniques. The results of the study have shown that BUMDES has had an impact on the village economy. BUMDES has an impact on community business development in Tutur Village. In addition, BUMDES encourages people to start a new business according to the potential of the community. The impact of other BUMDES is to improve the level of children's education and improve public health

In the rapid technological development, physical boundaries have begun to disappear. The internet has created a ‘free culture’. In addition, the era is challenging the copyright concept along with the emergence of ‘digital copyright’. It has become the main commodity of Over-the-Top services providing means of communication and entertainment through the internet. Content streaming service like Netflix uses films, as well as other cinematographic works, as its main commodities. OTT Streaming media helps to protect copyright holders' rights that previously have been violated by illegal streaming sites on the internet. Unfortunately, it also raises a new question: how digital copyright-objects can be protected in this kind of service. Without physical form, copyright object can be distributed easily on the internet, and it may lead to right violations. To answer this problem, the authors aim to describe the digital copyright protection on OTT Streaming Content Media in Indonesia and compare them to the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) of the United States of America using a descriptive-analytical approach. This study employed a normative juridical approach with secondary data. The results of this study indicate that digital copyright protection in Indonesia is still centered on conventional copyright objects, and a sui generis law is needed to provide better protection for digital copyright objects.

The thesis aims to explore and explain how Social Media impacts the B2B-Business Development process in a global software environment. Mixed-methods uncover the leading media platforms applied in the Business Development process cycle. The thesis produced a model, illustrating two dimensions of Social Media Business Usage, four critical Business Development process phases, and their impact on Performance mediated by Social Capital. To extend generalizability, future research may focus on testing the model for New Business Development exclusively. Significant contributions are classifying relevant Social Media platforms, distilling the process phases with the greatest impact on performance. The creation of new indices advances the performance discussion, and the typology of Business Developers capitalises on optimising the process sequence.

The key challenge for the telecommunication business industry in the global world’s is “assuring competitiveness and profitability” for their companies in turbulent environments. Never in history has the pace of change in the business environment been as rapid as it is now. Recent developments such as the global marketplace, customers’ demands that are differentiated by different buying power and product preferences in this environment, technological leadership is one of the key success factor. New technologies and new industries develop rapidly and customers are prepared to pay for the most newest technology. The company’s strengths and successful strategies of the corporate leadership in the past are likely to remain relevant in the future. The research findings revealed that the turbulent environment level in the mobile telecommunication industry was in the discontinuous –strategic level, where the future is not extension of the past. This environment situation facing by Indonesia’s telecomunication industry need the corporate leadership to challenge the organisation survival. This research is based on the qualitative descriptive method by using data obtained from telecommunication industry experts and secondary data.
