Governador Valadares (GV) is a municipality of recognized leprosy hyperendemicity. From 2001 to 2010, the municipal health management invested in a heterogeneous way in the decentralization of control actions to expand access to diagnosis, highlighting the years 2002 and 2004, when training-campaigns took place in the Family’s Health Program. It is an epidemiological study, of a descriptive nature, of a longitudinal type, developed in the city of GV/Minas Gerais/Brazil. The variables collected were: Age group, categorized as <15 years and> 15 years; Gender; Year of notification; Operational classification categorized as paucibacillary and multibacillary; Number of registered household and outside contacts, classified by whole numbers starting with zero (no communications), and mode of entry, as new or not. The estimates obtained from the analysis of municipal indicators reveal that the coefficients of general detection and children under 15 years old remained at hyperendemic levels during the ten years of study with an apparent decrease in general detection to the period studied. Furthermore, according to national parameters, it was observed maintenance of a consistent number of diagnoses in children under 15 and insufficient contact examination coverage. Our study points to the importance of continuing leprosy control actions over time. Observing the findings related to some epidemiological and operational leprosy indicators in GV from 2001 to 2010 makes us aware of a high disease burden. Keywords: Epidemiological parameters, leprosy, operational indicators

Objective: Evaluate the performance of primary health care in control of leprosy in Teresina, Brazil from the perspective of users and professionals. Methods: This cross-sectional, descriptive study involved 25 healthcare users with leprosy and 34 professionals (physicians and nurses) working in 13 municipal health units within the urban area of Teresina. The data were collected from January to June, 2017, using the Instrument for Assessing the Performance of Primary Care in Leprosy Control Actions, a document based on the Primary Care Assessment Tool/PCATool Brasil which measures the presence and extension of essential and derived attributes from primary health care. Results: The mean scores obtained for the essential, derived and global attributes, through the perception of the users, were lower than 6.6, indicating that the primary health services in Teresina are not sufficiently oriented to carry out leprosy control actions, mainly in terms of access, integrality of services provided, family orientation and community orientation. The professionals showed a contrasting view, with averages exceeding 6.6 for all attributes and scores. The difference in perception between the groups was significant for all attributes except for coordination (Mann-Whitney U test, p = 0.479).The overall evaluation of quality was not influenced by the user’s clinical or socioeconomic variables, but rather by the organization/provision of services. Conclusions: The municipal health units within the urban area of Teresina must be strongly guided by primary health care attributes in order to reach higher levels of user satisfaction.

The appraised indicators showed fluctuations over the time series. Conclusion: the city has poor structure, high guidance for the development of leprosy actions in primary care and regular quality indicators according to the established parameters.

Objective: The BHTRM Project aims at studying the epidemiology of TRM in the city of Belo Horizonte and providing the means to monitor these patients. Method: To assess the efficacy and solvability of the project, two groups of patients treated at the João XXIII Hospital were compared in two distinct periods. Group 1 - from May 1, 2011 to July 31, 2011, months of project initiation and Group 2 - from December 1, 2012 to February 28, 2013. Results: Despite the 34% increase in the number of assisted patients, there is a 30% drop in the average number of days of hospitalization, as well as a decrease in the average days waiting for surgery of patients requiring surgical treatment, from 10.9 to 4.84, a drop of 56%. Conclusion: BHTRM Project is a useful tool in public health management. It optimizes the treatment of patients with spinal trauma by decreasing the time between admission and surgery. Also provides active monitoring of patient care and ensures better integration of rehabilitation care.

Abstract The article seeks to analyze the development of deforestation governance actions in the Amazon, based on the analysis of two case studies using the Strategic Action Fields theory (FLIGSTEIN; MCADAM, 2012). It analyzes the experience of mobilization for the removal of the city of Paragominas/PA from the deforestation Black List and the development of deforestation control actions in the São Jorge settlement, in the city of Cidelândia / Maranhão. Interviews with main actors and satellite images were used to analyze the two cases. The results indicate the relevance of using the Strategic Action Fields theory to gain an understanding of deforestation governance processes in the Amazon, highlighting the importance of central concepts to this theory, such as the performance of skilled social actors and the construction of internal units of governance.

Refugees are under a high-risk factor of being suffering from many different diseases due to the uncontrolled accommodations environment of the camps. This study aimed to test whether the camp's habitat affecting the physical activities of the married females as a biomarker of the adverse effects on the health management issues. 60 married females (30 refugees and 30 city residents) were recruited. Blood samples of all participants were analyzed for blood glucose, blood triglycerides, blood cholesterol, blood hemoglobin (HGb), blood heamatocrite percentage (HCT %) and other physical parameters estimated like body mass index (BMI), mean arterial pressure (MAP). Additionally, participants were screened for bacterial UTIs. Refugees married females showed a significant decrease in the blood hemoglobin concentration (gm/dl) compared with the city females (P= 0.014) and blood heamatocrite percentage (HCT %) (P= 0.0074). Also, no significant differences were observed for the other parameters between refugees married females and city married females. The UTI bacterial infection in refugees married females (21, 65.6%) was significantly higher than the infection among city resident married females (11, 34.4%) (P=0.0096). The higher incidence percentage of UTIs were caused by Gram-negative bacteria (87.5%). The most dominant pathogen which established UTIs was Escherichia coli (57%). A high-stress level of camp environment and nutritional malformation may affect the refugees married females more than the city females. Therefore, it is the international community responsibility to protect and provide life-saving assistance to all refugee women and to those that have been subjected to such situations.

In this paper we have developed a study of dengue fever in Rio Claro, São Paulo - Brazil. The Municipal Health Foundation of Rio Claro provided data about reported cases of dengue fever in 2011. The main objective was to analyze both the spatial distribution of the disease in the city, by Census tracts, and the relationship of the disease with socioeconomic factors. Two types of spatial models were applied to the data: the SAR model ``- Simultaneous Autoregressive Models and SEM - Simultaneous Error Models. We also fitted the classic linear model, just for comparison to the two spatial models. The results showed that dengue is related to socioeconomic factors and, through the models it was possible to identify which one was statistically significant. Thematic maps have identified the areas that have the highest concentration of the disease.
