Imaginative composition writing skills (IMW) in Kenyan primary schools strengthen learners’ learning, thinking and reflect on their overall academic performance. However, achieving good composition writing is challenging especially to non-native learners of English because of its complexity and nature. Some factors attributed to learners’ writing difficulties are: the curriculum, the pedagogic approach used and teachers’ lack of ability in writing instruction. These factors are in tandem with the ICW status in Vihiga County where over (70%) of Class 8 learners’ composition score are unsatisfactory, 60 % of teachers are uncomfortable to teach ICW while 75% of learners find it boring. To address these ICW difficulties, this study assessed the process approach out of the three principal writing approaches because it’s seen as the best alternative to product approach and that genre approach is considered a newcomer. The objective of the study was to assess the effectiveness of process approach in developing composition writing. Archer’s theory of reflexivity guided the study which used qualitative exploratory research design and was conducted in Vihiga County. Data collection tools were Lesson Observation and Interview Schedules. Validity and reliability were tested through triangulation and thick description. From Class 6-8, 30 lessons in 10 purposively selected schools were observed and 30 teachers interviewed. Data were analyzed thematically through transcription, coding and identification of themes. The key finding was: ineffective utilisation of the process approach due to teachers’ knowledge gaps on the approach. The study recommended teachers to use process approach effectively in ICW and the Ministry of Education to in-service teachers on writing approaches. Writing can be used to measure learning of the other three language skills and written materials be used for reference in future. Creative writing (CW) is the production of texts which have an aesthetic rather than a purely informative, instrumental or pragmatic purpose. It is a personal writing where the purpose is to express thoughts, feeling and emotions in an imaginative, unique, and sometimes poetic way. Of all the four language skills, creative writing is a high order skill that calls for molding through appropriate pedagogical approaches. In Kenya, English is both an examinable subject and a language of instruction. CW accounts for 40% of the total score in English subject. However, over 62% of learners fail to achieve writing competence at the end of primary course. Primary schools in Vihiga County have persistently underperformed in CW with more than (70%) of Class 8 learners scoring below the average mean mark. Despite this underperformance, only a few studies on CW pedagogy are available. CW studies conducted in Kenya have established that 60 % of teachers find it difficult to teach CW while 75% of learners find it boring. These have implications for pedagogy and students’ writing enthusiasm. The objective of this study was to explore the use genre pedagogic approach and its effectiveness in the development of CW skills. Archer’s theory of reflexivity which views writing as internal and external conversations was used. The study used qualitative exploratory research design and the study was conducted in Vihiga County. The data collection tools were Lesson Observation Schedule and Interview Schedule whose validity and reliability were tested through triangulation. From Class 6-8, 30 lessons in 10 purposively selected schools were observed and 30 teachers whose lessons had been observed were interviewed. Data were analyzed thematically through transcription, coding and identification of themes. The key finding was: inappropriate use of genre approach due to teachers’ knowledge gaps on CW pedagogical approaches. The study recommended that teachers of English use genre approaches appropriately in CW pedagogy and the Ministry of Education to in-service teachers of English on CW approaches. The results are useful to teachers of English and Teacher Training Institutions. KEY WORDS: Approaches, Genre Approach Creative Writing and Upper Primary Learners.

In an attempt to design a free writing course for less proficient EFL learners, models for process writing were used as a possible solution to the problems identified in a preliminary student needs analysis. The course included prewriting activities, different types of teacher feedback, and two revisions. The concluding questionnaire survey revealed that presenting models before writing can alleviate students’ mental pressure when writing and, with appropriate conditions, can help them save time. The currently proposed method may serve as an EFL writing model.

Information security has been more prominently considered under product approach in which this is considered as a framework of products providing different functionalities or features of information security like information availability, authenticity, non-repudiation, etc. But there is another important view point of information security. This is the Process View of information security in which the information security is considered as a process rather than a product. The process approach provides the benefits of repetitiveness, simplicity, and also statistically measureable and controllable. One can statistically manage the process for its maturity and capability. This white paper talks about understanding the information security as a process and then understanding the concepts of process maturity and capability for Information Security in organizations.

The main problem addressed by this study was the implementation of inclusive child friendly primary schools policy in Nyandarua County. The Inclusive Child Friendly Schools (CFS) policy has become the vehicle through which the government is providing quality education for all children in school by creating a learning environment where all children can learn, all children want to learn, and all children feel included in the classrooms and schools. However, studies show that the conditions in schools are not adequately adapted to accommodate the diversity of learners and even many more children of school going age are left out of school. These challenges generated the objectives of the study which were to examine the practice in public primary schools in line with the inclusive CFS policy and suggestion of appropriate strategies for implementation of inclusive CFS in public primary schools. To achieve this, the study utilized a descriptive survey using both qualitative and quantitative methods. Data collection instruments entailed questionnaires, interview schedule, focus group discussions, observation schedule and document analysis which were first piloted to improve validity and reliability and the accruing data was then analyzed thematically as per the study objectives. The findings of the study indicated that there was a substantial gap between CFS policy expectations and its actual day to day practice in the schools. Schools had the CFS messages engraved but had not made a significant alteration in the line with the policy. From these study findings, the paper presented several policy recommendations including adopting CFS policy to internal contexts so that individual schools look for ways of developing and utilizing selfassessment indicators of CFS at the school levels. Though the area of CFS is relatively new, it was hoped the study could shed light on the way forward for inclusive child friendly school programme in Kenya.

Background: The concept of empowerment requires the abandonment of traditional models. The need to design and develop employee empowerment patterns has been emphasized in several studies. The present study aims to design a comprehensive structural-psychological empowerment pattern for employees of medical sciences universities. Materials and Methods: Our exploratory research was conducted on 410 employees of medical universities of Tehran, Iran, and Islamic Azad University. Firstly, a primary pattern was designed according to a review of available literature, texts, patterns, and tools. Then, the psychometric analysis was done using validation (face validity, content validity, construct validity, factor validity) and reliability (internal consistency and stability). Lastly, the final pattern was introduced after having been approved by experts. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 24 and AMOS software. P<0.05 was considered as the significance level. Results: Based on our study, 83.9% of participants were holders of bachelor's degrees or higher degrees. The results of validation (face, content, structure, and confirmation validity) and reliability (internal consistency [α=0.90] and stability [0.91] ) showed that the structural-psychological empowerment pattern was appropriate, which was validated with 31 items and 8 domains. The scope of this pattern included resources, self-sufficiency, competence, support, effectiveness, and opportunity, significance, and information domains. The highest impact on the model was related to the support domain (impact factor=0.87). Conclusion: The present pattern is an appropriate and verified Iranian model in the field of structural-psychological empowerment, which is suggested in the cultural context of Iran, especially in medical universities.[GMJ.2019;8:e1486]

This article is devoted to the problem of the development of writing competence in the process of foreign language teaching. The article refects the main directions of the language policy in the Republic Uzbekistan with reference to the fundamental normative documents in this area, describes the conditions for the successful language policy in the feld of foreign language education. The characteristic features of foreign language writing competence is presented. The concept of the term «approach» is analyzed by foreign scholars and the author focuses on the advantage of two modern approaches in teaching foreign language writing competence as Product approach and Process approach. A review of two modern approaches is presented by involving the points and claims of well-known foreign scholars. The article deals with the assessment criteria, the learning process and effective techniques that are used on the basis of product approach. It presents a typical model for process approach created by the English specialist C. Tribble. Carried out comparative analysis of two given approaches, leads to the conclusion that both product approach and process approach, despite of their advantages, are not perfect enough in teaching writing since both approaches were criticized by methodologists. As a result of the study, it is concluded that it is preferable to use a mixed approach, along with traditional ones to develop writing competence of students.
