Doing business have problems, however borrowers still profit from their entrepreneurial engagement specifically merchandising or buying and selling which has fast return on investment. Thus, they were able to successively avail larger amount of loans and stay for more years as client of MFIs. This implies that microfinance borrowers are creditworthy and responsible individuals. Moreover, it could be implied also that MFIs are committed to help their clients be uplifted from poverty. Conduct of trainings through the extension program of the College of Business Management and Accountancy and partnership with Microfinance Institutions is recommended to improve their income and overall living standards. Despite numerous journalistic accounts, systematic quantitative evidence on economic conditions during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic remains scarce for most low- and middle-income countries, partly due to limitations of official economic statistics in environments with large informal sectors and subsistence agriculture. We assemble evidence from over 30,000 respondents in 16 original household surveys from nine countries in Africa (Burkina Faso, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Sierra Leone), Asia (Bangladesh, Nepal, Philippines), and Latin America (Colombia). We document declines in employment and income in all settings beginning March 2020. The share of households experiencing an income drop ranges from 8 to 87% (median, 68%). Household coping strategies and government assistance were insufficient to sustain precrisis living standards, resulting in widespread food insecurity and dire economic conditions even 3 months into the crisis. We discuss promising policy responses and speculate about the risk of persistent adverse effects, especially among children and other vulnerable groups.

Abstract: This study investigates the effect of Ease of Doing Business Index (EDBI) on Return on Investment (ROI). The study employs a cross-sectional survey design covering five years from 2015 to 2019. The sample is 47 registered companies with the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which is the most representative of the organised private sector group in Nigeria. The study adopts descriptive and linear regression statistical analysis. Findings show a statistically significant negative effect of Government policy continuity. The government procurement process, Raw materials availability and Quality of workforce show adverse effects. Traffic and transportation management, power supply and Security infrastructure show insignificant effect on ROI. Hence, findings indicate that Government procurement process is inimical to ease of doing business in Nigeria despite the government improvement efforts. Since government efforts are insufficient, the World Bank should incorporate private sector ideals into EDBI to create a synergy a robust EDBI. Keywords: Ease of Doing Business, ease of doing business index, return on investment, investors, World Bank.      Ease of Doing Business Index: Sebuah Analisis terhadap Pandangan Praktis InvestorAbstrak: Penelitian ini menginvestigasi pengaruh Ease of Doing Business Index (EDBI) terhadap Return on Investment (ROI). Kata kunci: Ease of Doing Business, indeks kemudahan berbisnis, pengembalian investasi, investor, Bank Dunia

Innovation is critical for enterprises and the country’s economy, and it has resulted in an improvement in living standards. There may be appropriate lessons to learn from other countries, but their adoption must be assessed due to education and living standards variations. This paper aims to build an in-depth understanding of the stimulating factors for ICT innovations from Sweden, and examines their adoption in the context of a developing country, Sri Lanka. ICT innovations significantly impact development in other sectors, as they can ease doing business and other essential services. This study is based on seven interviews, including key people leading innovation activities in Sweden. Then, it critically analyses and presents the application of stimulating factors in Sweden to the context of a developing country, namely Sri Lanka. The results indicate that education and mindset, a risk-taking environment, embracing failures, digitalisation and collaboration are the critical determinants of ICT innovations in Sweden. This research is vital for educational policymakers in universities, technology transfer offices, and governmental policymakers.

SUMMARY The incorporation of socio-economic rights in the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights should be considered a vital move towards the transformation of socio-economic conditions of the people on the continent. However, the envisaged socio-economic transformation depends largely on how these rights are interpreted. It is the task of the supervisory organs of the African Charter to develop the scope and content of these rights and their related obligations through interpretation. To achieve this interpretative objective, interpretive process of the supervisory organs should be guided by an appropriate approach to interpretation that is applied coherently. This article argues that the teleological approach to treaty interpretation is an appropriate approach to interpreting socio-economic rights in the African Charter. The article develops a methodology for application of the teleological approach through which socio-economic rights in the African Charter may be effectively interpreted. Key words: socio-economic rights; African Charter; effective interpretation; teleological approach to interpretation

Conservation of the built environment is becoming a major aspect of planning activity in the 1980s. Current economic conditions have necessitated rehabilitation and renovation of many buildings and structures rather than their replacement. In response to these conditions the Ontario Ministries of Transportation and Communications and of Citizenship and Culture have initiated the Heritage Bridge Program. A key component is the establishment of a list of heritage road bridges. There is a presumption that listed bridges should be conserved where feasible. Criteria are utilized to evaluate bridges for prospective nomination to the list. Conservation strategies are recommended for protecting those bridges listed. Complementary funding provisions have been agreed to by the Ministries to encourage listed bridge conservation. The program, the first of its kind in Canada, is a systematic and comprehensive way of protecting a unique aspect of Ontario's engineering heritage. Key words: historic bridges, engineering heritage, conservation, rehabilitation, evaluation criteria, Ontario government program.

The phenomenal growth of the economy of China and dramatically improved living standards, together with a population of over 1.3 billion, have activated the domestic wine business greatly and also helped make the wine become a part of daily diet in some developed regions or cities in China. However, due to the notorious business ethics, the loose business management and relatively poor governance of related administrative agencies, the authenticity and the quality of the delivered wine is uncertain for most cases. The present situation of wine sales not only may put the customers’ health in jeopardy, but also causes the financial loss for customers. Here we develop a management system for wine sales using the IOT technology. The system aims at ensuring the authenticity of wines and helping streamline the wine sales. Through slight modification this management system can also be used for sales of other luxuries of which the authenticity is the key concern for customers.
