The essence of the principle of network organization is that multi-level hierarchy is replaced by groups of enterprises, and specialized units coordinated by market mechanisms replace administrative mechanisms. Franchising, one of the forms of hotel management, is a contractual relationship between companies with a well-known brand and other hotels. As well as the positive role of franchising management in the hotel chain, there are also a number of problems. Key words: hotel, Franchising, hospitality, industry, service, tourist

Knowledge forms a crucial source for gaining competitive advantage and its sharing a dominant challenge facing several organizations. In this paper we propose a positive role of workplace spirituality (WPS) (at individual and collective levels) on knowledge sharing intention (KSI) by employing the theory of decomposed planned behaviour. We argue that WPS with its focus on inner spirit, meaningful work, sense of interconnectedness and alignment with organizational values and mission positively strengthens an individual’s knowledge sharing attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavioural controls (thereby, strengthening their KSI) by affecting the underlying behavioural, normative and control beliefs. We also take into account the role of transformational leadership (TL) in creating a pro-social working environment, which facilitates knowledge sharing. In proposing a holistic and multi-level framework linking WPS (at individual and collective levels) and TL with KSI, this paper contributes to both, knowledge sharing and WPS literatures.

A blooming hotel industry has the downside of an increased negative environmental impact. At the same time, many hotel guests and employees have become conscious of eco-friendliness and green practices. In addition, 2017 was by United Nations declared as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, with the emphasis on (among other elements) resource efficiency and environmental protection. A hotel that has green certification(s) promises more green services, products, and operations, and possesses thereby (potentially) important strategic assets, when it comes to attracting customers and employees. Many green certifications are offered within the hotel industry, such as for example Green Globe and Green Key. However, which certificate(s) to choose is a strategic choice for the hotel management. In this paper, we examine green certifications in order to determine similarities and differences among them. As part of the research, we analyze the usage of certificates in different regions (e.g. Southeast Europe). Even though many of the certifications are offered internationally, we identified clear differences in dissemination across region. In addition to region, the belonging to a hotel chain/brand seemed to highly influence the choice of certificate(s).

The hotel complex is an important factor of Croatia’s existing tourism offer and in a way determines the fate of tourism in general. The restructure of existing hotel management during the period of transition means, among other things, an improved tourism offer (e.g. family hotels and other alternative types of hotels). The author advocates an approach by which the identity of Croatia’s hotel and tourism offer is preserved through the further development of hotel and tourism firms based on to-date achieved experience, to be improved by novel features, and a new "trade mark”, similar to the experiences of Spain, Austria and Italy. An introduction of alternative hotel forms is based on the management and structure of family hotels and lodging-houses in Austria, Italy, France and Portugal. Based on an analysis of existing states and a comparison of representative cases, a model is presented for the hotel industry under the new conditions of present day Croatia. A systematic introduction of new types of hotels as an additional offer of high quality tourism is also proposed. The indispensible role of outside institutions and bodies in the functioning and further development of the tourism offer is emphasised.

Hospitality is the most sensitive business in the world. Any small change in the country has an immediate impact on this industry. However, it should also be noted that this area also has the ability to recover quickly (coming out of various crises). The world practice of successful hotel operation has shown that the presence of benchmarking companies in developed countries has brought good results to various enterprises. Since the hotel industry in Georgia is not yet developed to a level that meets international standards, it would be a good idea to create the regional hotel associations, to invite experts who provide benchmarking with their consulting activities and services. This means that the high-ranking experts will be invited to select the most important indicators for the analysis. Creating a service standard framework will help the hotel industry to improve the quality of a service. Why is the knowledge of benchmarking tools important for hotels? Using benchmarking tools helps: 1. Investors to determine a range of investment in the construction of a hotel based on the tariffs and occupancy in the market. What will the hotel room cost based on the investment and how long will it take to get the investment back? 2. Revenue management increase revenue; the best example of this is the benchmarking operations provided by the hotel chain Ritz Carton. 3. Hotels to have more satisfied customers. This means if the hotel rating is higher than that of other hotels, more customers are attracted. 4. To increase the qualification of hotel staff and to increase their motivation. This will improve the quality of the work done by them. 5. To save money on experiments; By using the best experience and offering your own option, the hotel will raise its awareness and increase its popularity. Keywords: Benchmarking, Competition, Management, Hotel Services, Hospitality.

The major impact of hotel industry on the environment has become a serious concern for both hoteliers and tourists, with many studies showing that tourists are having more and more expectations from hoteliers to implement environmental practices. Considering the fact that most hotel bookings are now made online through booking websites, it is important for these to show and manifest the same preoccupation with the environment, by promoting environmentally friendly initiatives. The aim of the present study is to emphasize the crossroads between sustainability and digitalization, and to increase the role of digital technologies in encouraging a sustainable development of all tourism sectors, including hospitality. The study provides information and identifies important elements to assess the environmental practices of booking websites. In order to identify the position that booking websites and platforms take towards the environmental practices, the filter section of four booking platforms is analyzed. The present study aims not only to analyze the current position of booking platforms towards the environment, but also to identify methods that improve the way they highlight their implemented environmental practices, based on tourist’ reviews. In order to identify the customers’ opinion regarding these types of practices, a total of 31,800 tourist reviews posted on Booking.com were analyzed. The results have indicated that the level of awareness related to the need of protecting the environment, in the case of both hoteliers and tourists, must increase aspects that also imply the need for booking websites to highlight and encourage environmental practices. The obtained results are useful for booking websites developers who can adapt and make the website’s interface friendlier regarding environmental practices. In addition, hotel managers and entrepreneurs can make use of these results in order to develop new types of business in the hospitality industry, and in the long run the results are useful for increasing the awareness among tourists of the need for environmental practices. Suggestions are made on how booking websites can involve themselves more in environmentally friendly initiatives and in potential future study subject discussions.
