The International Measurement System (IMS) uses a computerized velocity prediction program (VPP) to calculate the performance of a measured hull and rig in winds from six to twenty knots, at any sailing angle. A regatta is scored by comparing a yacht's performance with predictions of the VPP. The winner is the yacht whose performance, relative to its VPP predictions, is the best, compared to all other yachts in its class or division. This paper discusses different methods of malcing the comparison and accounting for various factors in the race such as wind shifts and current on the course. Decisions made by race managers and/or developers of scoring programs can significantly impact results. Illustrative examples show the effects that these decisions can have. In 1994 the number of data points available for use in scoring yachts in custom courses doubled. Alternative ways of using these data are illustrated by application to a sample regatta.

According to the Near-Field Acoustic Holography (NAH) theory, we designed a measurement system, which was used to localize the noise source on five hologram surfaces of a industrial sewing machine. Moreover, we compared the localization results of the noise source on the front surface of the industrial sewing machine by NAH and sound intensity method respectively. The measurement results can provide a theoretical basis for controlling the noise of industrial sewing machine.

Abstract Background Objective measurement of movement asymmetry is gaining in popularity, especially as an adjunct to traditional lameness evaluation. Earlier research has highlighted the need for more knowledge regarding the clinical significance of measured movement asymmetry, and the influence of biological variation. Evaluating the locomotor system of the Standardbred trotter can be challenging, and studies using objective technology on this breed are few. The aim of this study was to quantify the prevalence and magnitude of objectively measured movement asymmetry in young, presumed sound Standardbred trotters, by performing objective movement analysis during in-hand trot and while driven on a track. Our hypothesis was that asymmetry scores would be higher when evaluating horses in-hand versus while driving on a track. Results Of 103 horses included in the study, 77 were measured both in-hand and on the track, 24 were measured only in-hand, and two were measured only on the track. Previously set symmetry thresholds for the measurement system were used, during both in-hand and track trials. The majority of horses (91, 88.3%) did not have any trials below threshold. Front and/or hind limb parameters were above the symmetry thresholds during in-hand trials for 94 (93.1%) horses, and during track trials for 74 (93.7%) horses. For the total 180 in-hand and track trials, 166 (92.2%) trials were above threshold. Asymmetry magnitude ranged from mild to severe, with the majority of horses showing mild asymmetry. A minority of horses (19.7%) switched side of asymmetry for one or more parameters between in-hand and track trials. Trial standard deviations were overall high, mainly due to horse behavior, and this variability should be considered when interpreting the results. There was no significant effect on asymmetry of measuring horses in-hand versus driven. Conclusions A high proportion of presumed sound Standardbred yearlings showed movement asymmetries above previously determined thresholds. The biological and clinical relevance of the study findings may be aided by examining how this asymmetry evolves over time and with training. This is important in order to ensure the welfare of the Standardbred trotter.

The article is devoted to predicting and preventing urban vandalism. In the article described current state of research on structure of vandalism – motives, attitudes, ideas. It is shown that the activity approach can serve as a theoretical basis for study of the internal plan of vandal actions. On its basis, a theoretical model is determined, including the motive of vandalism and the ideas that regulate its implementation. These are the subjective value of vandal action and value that subject attaches to vandal action. The organisation, procedure and results of empirical research are described. Using a sample of young people living in 106 Russian cities (n = 650 people), we study the relationship between subjective ideas about the ability to commit a vandal act, its motives, attributed value and meaning. The results show that there is a conjugate effect of these representations on subjective ability to behave like a vandal. Their interpretation shows the presence of opposite approaches to the assessment of vandalism – from rejection to acceptance.

This paper explores how the individuals (women) constitute their own subjectivity through neo-liberal discourses in Pakistan. This paper examines the media discourses on perfection in Pakistan based on the claim that such discourses may function to spread neoliberal thinking in society. Foucault notion of neo-liberal governmentality provides a theoretical basis for this work. This is an empirical study aimed at investigating discourse featuring in the Pakistani Morning show (Good Morning Show with Nida Yasir). This paper discusses the morning show in a way to reveal how technologies of neoliberal globalization produce and reproduce discourses in subjectivity.

The article is devoted to the study of the correlation between various types of socially dangerous behavior of students and their emotional intelligence in adolescence. The relevance of this study depends on the growing problem of ensuring security in educational institutions, which is confirmed by the annual tragic events committed by students in Russian schools and colleges. The purpose of the study is to test the correlation between the propensity of adolescents for various types of socially dangerous behavior and their emotional intelligence. The theoretical basis of the study was the modern data of Russian and foreign scientists on the connection of aggressive, deviant, victim behavior with various manifestations of emotional intelligence. The empirical study was conducted in 2020 to test the assumption that a low level of emotional intelligence development is a predictor of various forms of deviant behavior of adolescent students. The sample consisted of 793 adolescents at the age of 13-15. The method of organizing the study is a mass screening examination. Data collection was conducted using the inventory “Propensity to deviant behavior” by Leus E.V. and Solovyov A.G. and the “Questionnaire on emotional intellect Emin” by Lusin D.V. The obtained results allowed us to characterize the propensity of adolescents of the studied sample to the main types of socially dangerous behavior (delinquent, aggressive, self-injurious, etc.) and showed that more than a third of students have a low level of emotional intelligence. A reliable feedback relationship has been established between the tendency to deviant behavior and emotional intelligence: the lower its level in adolescent students, the higher their tendency to the studied types of socially dangerous behavior.

The possibility of applying the concept of managerial leadership as a theoretical basis for building an innovative training and formation system of territorial bodies and units senior staff reserve of internal affairs bodies is discussed in the article. The results of an empirical study, the purpose of which is to identify the psychological characteristics of internal affairs officers who are prone to managerial leadership, are presented.

The article is devoted to the study of the actual problem of the aggressiveness of students within the walls of educational institutions, as evidenced by the growing statistics of tragic incidents in Russian schools and colleges in recent years. The subject of the research is the personal factors students’ aggressiveness from senior classes. The purpose of the research is a comparative study of personal factors, the focus of aggressiveness and the level of a conflictness of students in adolescence and youth.A theoretical basis of the study is classical approaches to the understanding of aggressiveness as a personal construct of factors that determine readiness for aggressive manifestations of negative and positive orientation. For an empirical study 158 adolescents and young people (14–17 years old) were selected. The method of organizing the investigation is an ascertaining experiment. The empirical data collection was carried out using the method of “Personal aggressiveness andconflictness” (E.P. Ilyin & P.A. Kovalev). The results obtained allowed us to give a comparative description of the personal factors of aggressiveness, its focus and students’ conflictness levels in adolescence and youth. On the basis of the assumptions put forward about interiorization and socialization as two mechanisms for the development of aggressiveness, the author identified the most important aspects of psychological and educational prevention of aggressive behavior.
