The research on effect of manures and biochemical RealStrong fertilizer had been done. The research was conducted at Aji BuharaVillage, Tigapanah Sub- district,Karo Regency,North Sumatra, February to April 2018.The proposed of the study was to see the effects of the fertilizers in growing and producing of Beta vulgaris. Random cluster block design with factorial classic was applied,factor 1; manures: P0: control, P1:chicken’s manures 1, 5 kg/plot, andP2:caw’s manures 1, 5 kg/plot. Factor 2, Biochemical RealStrong fertilizers: R0= control,R1 = 125gr/plot, R2 = 250gr/ plotandR3= 375gr/plot. Results of the study shown that the effect of P1 had given a highest growing i.e 33.88 cm and(R3)34.90 cm. Kinds and dosage of the fertilizers also influence of productions of the plant. The manure P1 had given production to 101.64 g/sampeland biochemical Realstrong R3given production of 3.20 kg/plot

Stimulants are one of the common ways to increase yield in rubber plants. Recent, the stimulant that is widely used in rubber tapping is ethephon. Ethephon material can prolong the flow of latex so that yield increases. The combination of osmolyte and alkaline compounds is expected to be an alternative stimulant. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the use of osmolytes and alkaline in rubber plants. This research was conducted at the Experimental Design of the Sungei Putih Estate Research, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra in May-September 2016 with PB 260 clones planting year 2010 with a tapping system S/2 D3 Ga1.0 6 / y (m) in panel B0-2. The experimental design used was a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 28 combinations of treatments. The observation parameters in this study were yield (g/p/s), girth (cm) before treatment application and yield (g/p/s) and yield (kg/ha/year) after treatment application. The observations showed that the addition of stimulants with osmolyte and alkaline compounds had a significant effect yield on rubber (g/p/s) in the first tapping slices. The 5% osmolyte and 10% alkaline compounds have yield rubber which is comparable to the application of stimulants made from ethephon in the first tapping slices. Application of 5% osmolyte and 10% alkaline compounds can be used as an alternative stimulant in rubber plants.

Jurnal Lahan Suboptimal: Journal of Suboptimal Lands 9(1): 41-49.The purpose of this study was to evaluate the application effects of three different compound fertilizers on yield, and assess the income increase at different rates of compound fertilizers. Three compound fertilizers namely NPK 14-0-46, NPK 19-9-19 and NPK 11-11-11 was conducted at three different farmers’ field in Langkat District, North Sumatra Province under upland conditions. In each farmers’ field, a Randomized Complete Block Design was applied with four replications per treatment.  Seven treatments tested consisted of full rate of farmer fertilizer practice and six rates of each compound fertilizer plus half rate of farmer fertilizer practice. In each of compound fertilizer tested, pod yield and seed yield increased quadratically as increasing compound fertilizer rates. The highest pod yield and seed yield of peanut were 1649 kg/ha and 1072 kg/ha, respectively with half rate of FFP + 200 kg of NPK 14-0-46. For compound fertilizer NPK 19-9-19 the highest pod yield and seed yield were 1632 kg/ha and 1032 kg/ha with half rate of FFP + 500 kg of NPK 19-9-19 while for compound fertilizer NPK 11-11-11 the highest pod yield seed yield were 1421 kg/ha and 930 kg/ha with half rate of FFP + 250 kg of NPK 11-11-11. However, adding each  half rate of farmer fertilizer practices with  200 kg of NPK 14-0-46 or 300 kg of NPK 19-9-19 or 250 kg of NPK 11-11-11 with HypoMa-1 cultivar gave the highest values of the benefit for the farmers under upland soil in Langkat, North Sumatra.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to determine the dosage of inorganic fertilizers, soaking time of the inoculation of the legume bacteria strains which were suitable for the growth and yield of peanut in tidal lowland. Materials and Methods: This research was conducted at tidal lowland in Sei Ular Village, Secanggang sub-District, Langkat District, North Sumatra from September to December 2019. The research used randomized block design in factorial. The first factor is the dose of inorganic fertilizers consisting of P0 = un-fertilizer (control), P1= urea 50 kg.ha-1 + TSP 180 kg.ha-1 + KCl 50 kg.ha-1, P2= urea 75 kg.ha-1 + TSP 205 kg.ha-1 + KCl 75 kg.ha-1, P3= urea 100 kg.ha-1 + TSP 230 kg.ha-1 + KCl 100 kg.ha-1. The second factor was the soaking time of the Bradyrhizobium japonicum bacterial strain consisting of T0= un-soaking time, T1= soaking time for 3 minutes, T2= soaking time for 6 minutes, and T3= soaking time for 9 minutes. Parameters were analyzed using ANOVA and BNJ analysis 5%.· Results: The application of urea 50 kg.ha-1 + TSP 180 kg.ha-1 + KCl 50 kg.ha-1 significantly increased the plant height, number of leaves, and root volume and showed the highest number of active nodules, dry pods.plot-1 and seed weight.plot-1 compared to other doses. The seed soaking time with the Bradyrhizobium japonicum strain and their interactions showed insignificant differences in all parameters of peanut plants in tidal lowland.

This research was aimed to describe the yield stability and growth adaptation of elite lines of aromatic rice in rice production centers of North Sumatra. The experiments were conducted at 10 sites during dry season (DS) 2001 and DS 2002. Research materials consisted of 12 elite lines introduced from IRRI with IR64 as check variety. The treatments were arranged in a randomized block design (RBD) with three replications. Stability analysis was performed using methods of Eberhart and Russell, Finlay and Wilkinson, and Francis and Kanennberg. The results showed that the interaction of genotype x environment effect was very significant, indicating the presence of specific line adaptation on a particular environment. Genotypes which had the highest average yield were not always stable genotypes, as was shown by IR71137-49-1-2 which was more suitable to the sub-optimum environment. Lines IR71143-223-3-2-2-3, IR71146-97-1-2-1-3, IR65610-24-3-6-3-2-3, IR66696-49-1-2, IR71146-407-2-1-2-1, IR71146-122-1-1-2-1 were considered as stable genotypes according to the three analysis methods and each line showed high average yield. Those genotypes are suggested to be planted in the high productivity environments in order to obtain its optimum genetic expressivity on grain yield

The factors affect the success of cuttings is composition of planting media and position of planting materials. The experiment aims to determine response growth dragon fruit seeds on various composition of planting media. It was conducted in the field of research Agriculture Faculty, North Sumatra University, Medan with the height about 32 meters above sea level on April to August 2016. The design used factorial randomized block design with two factors and three repetitions. The first factor is part of the stem cuttings with three variety i.e. bottom stem, center stem, top stem and the second factor is planting media with four variety i.e. sand 100%, sand 50% + sludge 50%, sand 50% + empty palm fruit bunches (EPFB) 50%, sand 50% + sludge 25% + EPFB 25%. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance followed by Duncan’s multiple range test (DMRT). The results showed that part of the stem cuttings hasn’t effect to all observation parameters.The best planting media composition is present in the treatment sand 50% + sludge 25% + EPFB 25%. Interaction about both of factors hasn’t effect to all observation parameters.

Swiss chard (Beta vulgaris var. cicla) is a leafy vegetable that belongs to the Chenopodiaceae family. The leaves are cooked, if still tender they are used in salads. Over the years, Emawati have adopted the use of inorganic fertilizers as they are easy to apply and come with recommended application rates. However, their main drawback is that they are environmentally unfriendly especially when washed into rivers, streams and other water bodies. For this cause, the use of animal manures has been promoted. Four-week-old Swiss chard seedlings were transplanted on the 4th of February, 2016 in 1.5 x1.5 m plots with an inter and intra row spacing of 45 cm and they were irrigated twice a day during the first week and every second day from the second week until the end of the experiment. The experiment was conducted at the Horticulture Department Farm, Faculty of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences, Luyengo Campus of the University of Swaziland to determine the effects of chicken manure application rates on growth, yield and quality of Swiss chard. Four chicken manure application rates (10, 20, 40 and 80 t/ha) and a recommended 900 kg/ha, inorganic basal fertilizer with a 125 kg/ha LAN top dressing fertilizer used as a control. A Randomised Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replicates was used. The study showed that the application of 80 t/ha of chicken manure improved the growth and yield of Swiss chard. It is recommended that farmers may use 80 t/ha of chicken manure because it gave the best results compared to the other treatments. The highest fresh shoot mass (237.5 g) was obtained in plants treated with 80 t/ha of chicken manure while the lowest fresh shoot mass (100.0 g) was obtained in plants fertilized with inorganic fertilizers. It was concluded that 80 t/ha was the best under the conditions of this study and it was found that fresh mass at the end was the most important parameter to consider.

The research effects of liquid calcium fertilizers on the growing and producing of potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) had properly done. The research was carried out on Lau Gumba Village, Berastagi Sub-district, Karo Regency, North Sumatra, December 2018- May 2019. Randomize Block Design with two factors i.e. Faktor I: Concentration of “BF” fertilizer, B0: control, B1: 2, 5 ml/96 ml of water, B2: 5 ml/ 96 ml of water, B3: 7, 5 ml/ 96 ml of water. Factor II: concentration of “BC” fertilizer, C0: control, C1: 1 ml/ 96 ml of water, C2: 2 ml/ 96 ml of water, C3: 3 ml/ 96 ml of water. The results of the study show that the concentration of the liquid calcium fertilizer had significantly impact (p < 0.05) to the growing and the production of tubers. The concentration of B3 (7,5 ml/96 ml of water) and C3 (3 ml/96 ml of water) had highest score 39.4 cm of plants’ height, The concentration of B3 (7, 5 ml/96 ml of water) and C3 (3 ml/96 ml of water) had significant impact to tubers’ weight.

Abstract. Tampubolon K, Purba E, Basyuni M, Hanafiah DS. 2019. Glyphosate resistance of Eleusine indica populations from North Sumatra, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 20: 1910-1916.  Controlling of Eleusine indica populations in oil palm plantations using a similar mode of action of herbicide may cause resistant weed. Overall E. indica populations from oil palm plantations in North Sumatra, Indonesia have never been reported to be glyphosate-resistant. This research was aimed to determine the survival percentage and to classify the resistance of E. indica to glyphosate from oil palm plantations in 11 districts in North Sumatra Province. The research was conducted in the Weed Research Center Field Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara from October 2016 to August 2017. This research was arranged in a Randomized Block Design with the glyphosate-treatment using a recommended dose of two l ha-1 and three replications. The ESU0 population was collected in the soccer field of Politeknik Negeri Medan (Medan city) was used as a check, and has never been exposed to the herbicide. Parameters were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, and the means were compared using DMRT at a probability level of 5%. The results showed that 276 (65.56%) of 421 populations were classified as glyphosate-resistant, 88 populations (20.90%) were classified as glyphosate-resistant developing, and 57 populations (13.54%) were classified as glyphosate-susceptible. The highest range of dry weight of glyphosate-resistant E. indica populations were found in 5 districts including South Labuhanbatu District followed by the Serdang Bedagai, Simalungun, Asahan, and North Labuhanbatu Districts. The observed resistance level and dry weight range in the present study indicated the failure in controlling E. indica due to continued use of glyphosate and the potency of E. indica distribution into other oil palm estates due to its high biomass production capability.

Swiss chard (Beta vulgaris L. var. cicla) is a popular vegetable because it is nutritious, robust, easy to grow. It requires regular applications of nitrogen, which causes accumulation of oxalates and nitrates within the plant. Oxalates and nitrates are known health hazards but the use of organic fertilizers have been shown to reduce their accumulation and to promote accumulation of beneficial phytochemicals. We therefore determined the effect vermicompost (VC), Tithonia diversifolia green manure (Tithonia) and urea on the quality of Swiss chard. The experiment was laid out in a Randomised Complete Block Design (RCBD) replicated three times with thirteen treatments. Leaf nutrient elements, TSS, polyohenols, Vitamin C and antioxidants were determined using standard procedures. Treatment effects were significant only for aluminum, phosphorus and calcium. The values were highest on VC 50 kg N ha-1 and Urea 50 kg N ha-1, Tithonia 50 kg N ha-1 + Urea 50 kg N ha-1, and VC 50 kg N ha-1, and VC 100 kg N ha-1 for aluminum, phosphorus and calcium, respectively. Lowest response was reported on Tithonia 50 kg N ha-1, control and Tithonia 50 kg N ha-1 + Urea 50 kg N ha-1 for aluminum, phosphorus and calcium, respectively. The treatments significantly influenced the percentage of polyphenols, vitamin C and the antioxidant capacity while no significance was reported for total soluble solutes. The polyphenols and vitamin C content were highest on Tithonia 100 kg N ha-1 and control, respectively. Low polyphenol and vitamin C contents were recorded on VC 50 kg N ha-1 and VC 100 kg N ha-1, respectively. A similar trend was observed for antioxidant activity since a positive correlation was observed between the polyphenols and vitamin C and the antioxidant activity. Tithonia green manure improves Swiss chard quality.

Root trainer technology can be an alternative for rubber plant nursery that have ease in transportation and distribution. Organic materials which are lightweight, porous, and contain nutrients are considered suitable for root trainer growing media. This research was carried out at Sungei Putih Research Center Greenhouse, Deli Serdang from January - May 2019. The research was arranged based on a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 4 media combination treatments namely: top soil (P0), empty bunches and manure (P1), empty bunches and rice husks (P2), and empty bunches and solid decanters (P3). The results showed that the planting media did not have a significant effect on plant growth including stem diameter, plant height, and number of leaves, as well as the percentage of successful grafting. The treatment of oil palm empty fruit bunches and solid decanter gave better growth than other organic materials. The availability of empty bunches and solid decanter in North Sumatra is relatively abundant so that it can support rubber nurseries throughout the year.
