ABSTRACT Background: The quality of sleep in elderly tend to decline. This occurs as a result of certain changes such as physical, biological, mental and socio-economic. The quality of sleep may influence the healthcondition for short or long terms. Poor quality of sleep may cause difficulty in concentrating, slow response, memory disturbance and decrease of performance in daily life. The decline of sleep qualitymay be resolved with Jacobson’s Progressive Muscular Relaxation (JPMR) exercise. Objective: To analyze the effect of Jacobson’s Progressive Muscular Relaxation on sleep quality inelderly at Budi Agung Social Institution. Methods: This study is a pre experimental study with one group pretest-posttest design. The subject ofthis study were the 19 elderly at Budi Agung Social Institution. In this study, JPMR exercise was done in5 days. Sleep quality before and after JPMR exercise was measured using Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI) questionnair. The data obtained was analyzed using McNemar test. Results: From a total of 19 subjects, 3 subjects had good sleep quality while 16 subjecst had poor sleepquality. On the other hand, after the JPMR excercise, improved sleep qualiy was found in the 16 subjectswhile the 3 subjects still had poor sleep quality; bivariate analysis p value = 0.002 (p <0.05). Conclusion: Jacobson’s Progressive Muscular Relaxation (JPMR) has a significant effect on sleepquality in elderly at Budi Agung Social Institution. Poor sleep is a relatively common condition with possibly serious adverse health consequences. Lack of sleep affects the endocrine, immune, and nervous systems. In Cyprus, there is no information about the quality of sleep in the population. The goal of this study was to assess the quality of sleep in the Cypriot population and evaluate its association with multimorbidity. A representative sample of the adult population of Cyprus was selected in 2018–2019 among the five government-controlled municipalities of the Republic of Cyprus using stratified sampling. Data on sleep quality as well as on the presence of chronic, clinical, and mental health conditions were collected using a validated questionnaire. Diseases were classified according to the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10). A total of 1,140 Cypriot men and women over 18-years of age (range: 18–94) participated in the study. The median Pittsburgh sleep quality index score of the participants was 5 (first quartile = 3, third quartile = 7) with the maximum score being 17, which suggests that the Cypriot population has a relatively good quality of sleep overall, although, almost one-third of the study population had a poor quality of sleep. Women, residents of Paphos, and married people had a poorer quality of sleep (p &lt; 0.05). Having a poor quality of sleep was associated with higher odds of multimorbidity (OR = 2.21, 95% CI: 1.55, 3.16), even after adjusting for demographics, socioeconomic, and lifestyle factors. Adopting good sleep habits could be beneficial and would potentially help reduce the risk of multimorbidity. Public health guidelines regarding the importance of sleep and its association with multimorbidity should be considered.

Background: In recent years the internet had become the most indispensable tool for students for learning, entertainment, and communication. Internet over-usage had emerged as a major problem among students causing the emergence of a problem that is defined as internet addiction (IA) which affects sleep and leads to several mental health problems. This study is the step toward understanding the effect of internet addiction on sleep quality among medical college students in Pondicherry. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. It is a questionnaire-based study administrated among 298 consenting medical students. The participants were assessed by proforma containing demographic details, variables related to internet use, questionnaires of Internet Addiction Test, and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index for Sleep quality. Statistical data were analysed by SPSS-25. Results: A total of 287 students participated; 113 (39.4%) were males and 174 (60.6%) are females. Out of which Average users were 244 (85.01%) and problematic internet usage was 43 (14.99%), whereas poor sleep quality is found in 132 (45.99%) individuals. A significant correlation was found between internet addiction and the quality of sleep. Conclusions: Participants with problematic internet users were more likely to have a poor quality of sleep and vice versa.

Background: every parent wants a child who can grow and develop optimally according to its age category. One of the factors that can influence growth and development is the quality of sleep, due to 75% growth hormone produced when the baby sleeps. Sleep quality of babies can be stimulated through the act of giving massage baby. Objective: this study aims to determine the effect of infant massage on improvement the quality of sleep for infants aged 3-10 months in a village of Banguntapan Public Health Center II. Research method: this research is a pre-experiment research with an approach in one group (one-group pre-post test design without control). Data analysis used is the Wilcoxon test. This research was carried out in the Working Area Village Banguntapan II Health Center, with a population of 64 infants aged 3-10 months. Technique sampling using purposive sampling, which is the number of 15 babies aged 3-10 month. Providing education and demonstration of baby massage is done once, then massage done by parents of babies every day within 3 weeks, and observed by researchers every 2 days. Sleep quality was measured using the A Brief Screening Questionnaire For Infant Sleep Problems (BISQ). Results: Before being given massage the majority of the quality of bad baby sleep was 14 respondents (93.3%), then after being given massage for 3 weeks there was an increase in quality sleep where all babies have good sleep quality of 15 respondents (100%). Comparative test results infant massage between before and after massage is p value 0.000 (p value <0.005). Conclusion: there is the effect of infant massage on improving the quality of sleep for infants aged 3-10 months at Village of Bangutapan II Health Center.

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronical community health problem, and mostly suffered by the elderly. The elderly with DM have several symptoms at night that caused a sleep disorder and it may be affected by the poor quality of sleep.  The poor quality of sleep has several negative impacts to elderly including sleepy in the daylight, a lack of attention, memory disorders, depression, easy to fall, and reduce of the quality of life. There is a need for a study that assesses the sleep quality of elderly with DM. This study used descriptive quantitative approach. The samples were chosen using total sampling technique. This study involved 47 elderly with DM in the primary health center (PHC) Garuda. The data were collected using Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) Questionnaire that has been adapted for elders. The data were analyzed using distribution frequency. The results showed that the majority of elderly had a poor sleep quality (51%). All elders in this study had sleep disorders, and some of them had behavior that affected   their sleep quality, such as sleeping in a bright room (n=25), sleeping in low temperature room (n=27), and consuming caffeine (n=28). Nurses in the community setting are expected to provide health education to maintenance a good sleep quality, such as the importance of sleeping in the dark and warm temperature room, and avoiding to consume caffeine.

ABSTRACT Objective: To study the quality of sleep in very elderly people with chronic pain. Methods: We investigated 51 very elderly people without dementia and with chronic pain according to the Geriatric Pain Measure. Katz and Lawton questionnaires were used to evaluate functionality. The Geriatric Depression Scale and Geriatric Psychosocial Assessment of Pain-induced Depression were also used. Self-perceptions of sleep and quality of sleep were checked using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Results: Moderate pain was seen in 64.7% participants. The tracking of depression was positive for 41.2%. Poor quality of sleep was noted in 49% of them, but 82.3% perceived that they had a very good, or a good, sleep. The main factors associated with poor sleep quality were measurement of pain, self-perception of sleep, and pain-induced depression. Conclusion: Very elderly people with chronic pain, and without dementia, had a higher prevalence of poor sleep; however, they overestimated their sleep quality. Poor quality of sleep was associated with a poor self-perception of sleep and pain-induced depression.

Electronic gadgets, psychological behavior and quality of sleep among adolescent Background: In the development stage, adolescents are faced with problems of health problems including poor sleep quality. Globally, the prevalence of sleep quality disorders in the world varies from 15.3% to 39.2%. Data in Indonesia shows that most of the quality of sleep in adolescents is less than 63%. Poor quality of sleep can harm health. Factors that can cause poor sleep quality include the use of gadgets, where 80% say using gadgets> 4 hours 17 minutes a day.Purpose: Known the electronic gadgets, psychological behavior and quality of sleep among adolescent.Methods: The type of research used in this study was quantitative. The design of this study used analytics. The research subjects were class X and XI students at SMKN 1 Terbanggi Besar, Central Lampung, totaling 119 people. Collect data with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire and Smartphone Addiction Scale (SAS). The statistical test uses the chi-square test.Results: Univariate analysis was obtained by the majority of respondents who had bad behavior in using gadgets, as many as 68 people (57.1%) and most respondents had poor sleep quality, as many as 77 people (64.7%). Analysis data resulted p-value = 0,000 and OR = 4,696.Conclusion: There were the electronic gadgets, psychological behavior and quality of sleep among adolescent. The advice is to increase health promotion counseling about sleep patterns and the excessive use of gadgets, and for schools to set regulations on the ban on the use of gadgets in-class hours. Keywords  : Quality of Sleep, Gadgets, Adolescent; Psychological; BehaviorPendahuluan: Dalam tahap perkembangannya, remaja dihadapkan pada masalah-masalah kesehatan diantaranya kualitas tidur yang buruk. Secara global menunjukkkan prevalensi gangguan kualitas tidur di dunia bervariasi mulai 15,3% - 39,2%. Data di Indonesia menunjukan sebagian besar kualitas tidur pada remaja kurang terpenuhi yaitu sebanyak 63%. Buruknya kualitas tidur dapat menimbulkan dampak negatif bagi kesehatan. Faktor yang dapat menyebabkan kualitas tidur yang buruk diantaranya adalah penggunaan gadget, dimana 80% menyatakan meggunakan gadget > 4 jam 17 menit dalam sehari.Tujuan: Diketahui hubungan perilaku penggunaan gadget dengan kualitas tidur pada remaja.Metode: Jenis penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan rancangan menggunakan analitik. Subyek penelitian yaitu siswa kelas X dan XI di SMKN 1 Terbanggi Besar Lampung Tengah, yang berjumlah 119 responden. Cara pengambilan data dengan kuesioner Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Indeks (PSQI) dan Smartphone Addiction Scale (SAS). Uji stastistik menggunakan uji chi-square.Hasil: Sebagian besar responden memiliki perilaku penggunaan gadget yang tidak baik, yaitu sebanyak 68 orang (57,1%) dan sebagian besar responden memiliki kualitas tidur yang buruk, yaitu sebanyak 77 orang (64,7%). Hasil uji statistik diperoleh p-value = 0,000 dan OR= 4,696.Simpulan: Ada hubungan perilaku penggunaan gadget dengan kualitas tidur pada remaja. Perlu lebih ditingkatkannya promosi kesehatan konseling tentang pola tidur dan dampak penggunaan gadget secara berlebihan, serta bagi pihak sekolah dapat menetapkan peraturan tentang larangan penggunaan gadget di jam pelajaran.

  This study aims to determine the relationship between fracture pain and sleep quality. This research was conducted in the Seruni room of Dr. M. Yunus Bengkulu and in the Seruni room at Bhayangkara Hospital TK III Bengkulu. The research design used was correlational using a cross sectional approach. The results of the univariate analysis showed that (73.3%) respondents had poor sleep quality and (60%) had severe fracture pain intensity. The results of bivariate analysis with correlation test obtained p-value = 0.002 (p <0.05). In conclusion, there is a relationship between fracture pain and the sleep quality of patients hospitalized at the hospital in Bengkulu Province.   Keywords: Fracture Pain, Sleep Quality

Background: Usage of social networking sites like WhatsApp and Facebook in smartphones has become a basic necessity in today’s life, especially among college students. However, the excess usage of mobile phone affects sleep quality and attention span. Nursing students are prone to sleep disturbance due to their academics and work pattern. The aim of the study was to assess the pattern of WhatsApp and Facebook usage among nursing students and its impact on their sleep quality.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 168 nursing students of a nursing college in Puducherry. Participants were explained about the purpose of study and written informed consent was obtained. Data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire. Sleep quality was assessed using PSQI scale. Institutional ethics committee approval was obtained for the study. The data was entered in Microsoft Excel and analyzed using STATA 14.Results: Among the study participants, most of them prefer WhatsApp over Facebook. Almost 40% of the students had poor quality of sleep. There was statistically significant association between usage of WhatsApp while feeling sleepy, while having food and poor quality of sleep. However, the adjusted prevalence ratio of poor sleep quality did not show statistical significance.  Conclusions: The current study showed statistical significance between certain pattern of WhatsApp usage leading to poor sleep quality among nursing students. Thus, corrective measures have to be implemented to moderate the mobile phone usage and improve the sleep quality of nursing students.

Introduction: Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is highly contagious, has spread across the world rapidly and has taken many lives. All these have created a lot of concern for people leading to heightened levels of anxiety as a common response to this dreadful situation. It not only has affected physically but psychologically as well including sleep quality. This study aimed to assess employees and their spouses’ level of anxiety and sleep quality. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted to find out level of anxiety and quality of sleep among employees and their spouses in Nepal during COVID-19 pandemic from June 14, 2020, to July 4, 2020. Web based Google forms and printed questionnaire were used to collect data as required. Total enumerative sampling technique was used where 128 responses were received. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. P value was significant at 0.05. Ethical approval was obtained from Institutional Review Committee of Patan Academy of Health Sciences. Results: The overall prevalence of COVID-19 dysfunctional anxiety was 1.6% and poor quality sleep was 39.1%. There was no significant association of age, gender and status of respondents with quality of sleep at 95% of significance level (p-value=.089, .887, .964 respectively). Conclusion: From findings of the study, it is concluded that though only few respondents had dysfunctional covid-19 anxiety, about two fifth respondents had poor quality of sleep. Therefore, poor quality sleep could be addressed, and counselling could be performed on time. Key words: COVID-19 anxiety, employee, sleep quality, spouse.

Background:Sleep is a very fundamental need for every individual, especially for elderly people in social institutions. Poor quality of sleep in the elderly may lead to several disturbances, such as vulnerability to diseases,forgetfulness, psychomotor disorders, disorientation and difficulty to make decision. Some intervention may include pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapy. One of non-pharmacology therapies that isused to increase sleep qualityis rose aromatherapy. Objective: To determine the effect of rose aromatherapy on the quality of sleep in elderly at PSTW Budi Luhur Kasongan Bantul, Yogyakarta. Method: This study was a quasi-experiment research,with one group pretest-posttest design. Samples were taken with simple random sampling technique, involving 24 respondents. Each respondent was given rose aromatherapy for 5 minutes for 5 consecutive days. Result:Statistical analysis with marginal-homogeneity test showed p-value of 0,000 (p value<0,05).It suggested that there was a significant effect ofrose aromatherapy on the quality of sleep in elderly at Social Institution of Tresna Werdha Budi Luhur Kasongan Bantul, Yogyakarta. Conclusion:Roses aroma therapy has effect in improving sleep quality in the elderly at Social Institution of TresnaWerdha Budi LuhurKasonganBantul, Yogyakarta.
