As Chinese medicine becomes more and more integrated into the fabric of health care in economically developed countries, it runs into a variety of problems. These relate to education, licensing, and communications. In this article, we would like to focus on one important aspect—what does it mean to prescribe Chinese herbal medicines (CHM) responsibly at the present time? This issue confronts all Chinese herbalists (CH) in almost every patient encounter, and involves two major points that medical practitioners of all persuasions have to be cognizant of and which could be approached in a number of ways: safety and efficacy. How do we prescribe in a way that promotes the health of the patient without doing harm? We need to remember that all medicines, herbal or otherwise, have potential side effects and risks to patients, and that we need to take appropriate measures.

AbstractIn recent years, virtual reality (VR) has been effectively employed in several settings, ranging from health care needs to leisure and gaming activities. A new application of virtual stimuli appeared in social media: in the documentary ‘I met you’ from the South-Korean Munhwa Broadcasting, a mother made the experience of interacting with the avatar of the seven-year-old daughter, who died four years before. We think that this new application of virtual stimuli should open a debate on its possible implications: it represents contents related to grief, a dramatic and yet natural experience, that can have deep psychological impacts on fragile subjects put in virtual environments. In the present work, possible side-effects, as well as hypothetical therapeutical application of VR for the treatment of mourning, are discussed.

: Obesity is a major lifestyle disorder and it is correlated with several ailments. The prevalence of obesity has elevated over the years and it has become a global health problem. The drugs presently used for managing obesity have several side-effects associated with them such as diarrhoea, leakage of oily stools, etc. On the contrary, herbal plants and natural products are considered safe for use because they have lesser side effects. New compounds isolated from medicinal plants are screened and identified to determine their effectiveness and potential in preventing abnormal weight gain. In this review, the medicinal plants and natural materials were surveyed across the literature to cover those that have potential for managing and controlling weight gain, and their mechanism of action, active component, and experimental methodologies are also included. These herbal products can be developed as formulations for therapeutic use in obesity. The herbal plants mentioned in the review are classified based on their mechanism of action: inhibition of pancreatic lipase and appetite suppression activities. The ability to inhibit pancreatic lipase enzyme has been used to determine the effectiveness of herbal products for the prevention of abnormal weight gain because of its action on dietary fat and suppression of appetite. This review is an attempt to summarize the herbal plants and natural products that can be used to develop formulations effective in controlling weight gain and obesity.

Introduction: Dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis [SD] are similar skin conditions but have different severities. Because the current therapies are not able to completely remove dandruff, herbal extracts with better effectiveness and fewer side effects are being used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Due to the adverse effects of chemical drugs, the use of natural products and traditional medicine has sharply increased over the past few decades. Therefore, in this review, we report herbs used as anti-dandruff agents in traditional medicine around the world. Methods: The review was conducted on the literature available on the medicinal utility of certain plants as antidandruff agents using PubMed and Google Scholar and the following search terms: Dandruff and Plants or Medicinal Plant and Dandruff treatment; and Essential oil and Dandruff. Results: Because the current therapies are not able to completely remove dandruff, herbal extracts with better effectiveness and fewer side effects are being used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Nowadays, there are many different types of herbal antidandruff shampoo. They are effective and safe without the side effects of chemical agents. Recently, a large number of physicians have turned to herbal medicine. Clinical evidence of the therapeutic effects from herbal products has led to the study of many more herbs for their therapeutic roles. Conclusion: Herbal are now accepted to act a essential role in the development of favourable therapeutics, either alone or in combination with conventional antibiotics. However, the major challenges to this include finding compounds with satisfactorily lower MICs, low toxicity, and high bioavailability for effective and safe use in humans and animals.

The dental gingivae are a unique part of the oral anatomy and an integral part of the periodontal tissues. Although the vast majority of abnormalities affecting the gingival tissues are due to a simple inflammatory reaction directly related to the presence of dental plaque, a range of non-plaque-related conditions also occur due to either local or systemic factors. Such factors include developmental abnormalities, the presence of malignancy and manifestations of underlying systemic conditions. Recognition and diagnosis of non-plaque-related gingival disease is essential for comprehensive dental health care. CPD/Clinical Relevance: This paper provides a review of the spectrum of non-plaque-related conditions that can affect the dental gingivae.

ABSTRACTThe use of Oral Chemotherapy is increasing nowadays. Family who directly involve in caring the patient should be aware of the side effect and how to handle this agent safely. Phenomenology approach of qualitative study was conducted to get illustration regarding family experience in managing care of patient receiving oral chemotherapy. Data was collected by semi structured interviewed. Study gathered from 10 participants who meet criteria. The current study showed that three temathic item related to how they manage care to their family’s member. Those are 1) Lack of knolwedge about oral chemotherapy, 2) Confusing in handling safe oral chemotherapy and 3) lack of ability in caring patients when  side effect appeared and following adherence. These three things are considered lacked by the patients.  Therefore, health care professional especially nurses are expected to give more education and attention about administering oral chemotherapy agents, safe handling, adherence and managing side effects  both of in clinical and home setting. Multi-component interventions that include education, equipment, and technology can improve compliance with oral chemotherapy and will help families to secure and provide the appropriate affection to them.ABSTRAKPenggunaan kemoterapi oral semakin meningkat saat ini.

A lack of effective treatment for patients with treatment-resistant depression (TRD) has led to the evaluation of ketamine, an N-methyl- D-aspartate receptor antagonist. Despite the demonstrated short-term benefits of using intravenous (IV) ketamine, side effects and the difficulty in administering ketamine outside the health-care setting has raised interest in alternative dosage forms. Research articles evaluating oral or intranasal (IN) ketamine were retrieved from the PubMed database. Patients who received oral or IN ketamine experienced a similar reduction in depressive symptoms within 24 hours of treatment and fewer side effects compared to patients who received IV ketamine. Novel administration forms of ketamine provide an opportunity for patients with TRD to achieve remission with fewer adverse side effects. Future studies should continue to evaluate these administration strategies in the hope of promoting ketamine’s use outside health-care settings and for longer time periods.

AbstractUrgent action is needed to fight the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic by reducing the number of infected people along with the infection contagiousness and severity. Chlorpromazine (CPZ), the prototype of typical antipsychotics from the phenothiazine group, is known to inhibit clathrin-mediated endocytosis and acts as an antiviral, in particular against SARS-CoV-1 and MERS-CoV. In this study, we describe the in vitro testing of CPZ against a SARS-CoV-2 isolate in monkey and human cells. We evidenced an antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2 with an IC50 of ∼10μM. Because of its high biodistribution in lung, saliva and brain, such IC50 measured in vitro may translate to CPZ dosage used in clinical routine. This extrapolation is in line with our observations of a higher prevalence of symptomatic and severe forms of COVID-19 infections among health care professionals compared to patients in psychiatric wards. These preclinical findings support the repurposing of CPZ, a largely used drug with mild side effects, in COVID-19 treatment.

Green tea (Camellia sinensis) has been widely known as a healthy drink since long time ago. One of the substances in green tea which can give health benefit is catechin, an antibacterial substance. The purpose of this research is to know the efficacy of rinsing with green tea extract to Streptococcus alpha growth on gingivitis patient’s dental plaque. The research subjects include 30 mild gingivitis patients, and these subjects are divided into two groups: treatment group (20 patients) and control group (10 patients). Ten patients of treatment group rinse their mouth with 0.25% green tea extract and 10 other patients with 0.5% green tea extract. Meanwhile, control group use Bactidol (0.1% Hexetidine). Rinsing the mouth is performed every morning and night for five days. Sampling is conducted on the first and sixth day. Before rinsing data is analyzed using ANOVA and the result shows a significant difference. ANAVA testing then is done using proportion value. ANAVA Testing result shows that there is no significant difference among the patients in the treatment group. This result indicates that the effect of rinsing with 0.25% and 0.5% green tea extract is equivalent to the control (0.1% Hexetidine) to inhibit S. alpha growth on mild gingivitis patient’s dental plaque. From these two concentrations, it has not been known which one is the most effective concentration to inhibit S. alpha growth on mild gingivitis patient.

Introduction. Since the discovery that periodontal diseases are caused by microbial plaque the interest of many scientists has been focused on oral antiseptics. There are very few mouthrinses with oral antiseptic effect originally designed in our country. One of these is Ozosept? solution. Objective. This study evaluated the effect of Ozosept? solution (phenol compound) on the oral hygiene and gingival inflammation, in comparison with Hibidex DAP? solution (chlorhexidine digluconate). Methods. Two groups, each of 21 persons, which did not significantly differ concerning Silness-L?e plaque index (PI) and L?e-Sillnes gingival index (GI), used one of the studied oral antiseptic for a 15-day period. Oral hygiene was maintained by subjects' habitual home methods, and no technique of professionally advised brushing was performed during the experimental period. Results. At the end of the study, PI and GI scores were lowered to a statistically high significance in both groups of participants in comparison to the indexes at the beginning of the study. At the end of the study, PI and GI scores did not significantly differ between the two analyzed groups. No side effects, which were recorded in the Hibidex DAP? group (tooth and filling staining 9.5% and 4.74% respectively, transitory tongue numbness 28.6% and reduced taste sensation 14.3%), were registered in the group of subjects using Ozosept? solution. Conclusion. It is concluded that Ozosept? solution is effective in the control of dental plaque - biofilm accumulation and gingival inflammation, and produces no side effects related to chlorhexidine digluconate usage.
