Innovation, derived from the Latin word "innovatus", means to turn an idea into a product that can be sold or developed (goods or services). Tourism is one of the greatest global industries, improving according to the continuous changes in tourism trends and consumer preferences. Thus, it is this need to change that makes the concept of innovation a vital concern for tourism firms of all sizes. Because there is a competition between countries, regions, and cities to attract more tourists. In this context, hotels try to differentiate themselves in order to stay alive and have competitive advantage. This is only possible by conducting innovative activities. Innovation in tourism has many faces and can include such as product, market, and process. This study has been conducted to find out which innovation strategies tourism businesses prefer and which innovations they are using. Within the scope of the research, the data was collected via a questionnaire from 52 hotels by choosing the easy sampling method. According to the findings, tourism businesses implement service innovation. However, decisions for innovation practices are decided by general managers. Furthermore, informing the staff in accordance with the innovation targets makes the highest contribution to the practices. Finally, although research and development (R&D) is the basis of innovation practices, it has been determined that most of the tourism businesses taking part in the research do not have such a department. Finally marketing mix and quality standards should be aligned with the innovation approach.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to test the linkage between innovation strategies (process innovation and service innovation) and organizational performance in the context of Malaysia hotel industry. Design/methodology/approach – A total of 475 sets of questionnaires administrated through mail to all three star and above rating hotel managers in Malaysia, and only 24 percent of it, which is 114 were usable. Regression was utilized to test the link of innovation strategies and performance. Findings – The results showed that hotels in Malaysia used process innovation and service innovation as their functional-level strategy. Specifically, both process innovation and service innovation strategies positively linked with performance. But, the paired sample t-test result indicated that process innovation has slightly greater effect on performance than service innovation. In addition, this study found that hotel size significantly affected the performance. Research limitations/implications – This study is one of the limited number of studies which has empirically addressed the effect of innovation strategies on performance in hotel industry. Additional researches are needed to address effect of potential mediators or even moderators in innovation strategies and performance linkage. Practical implications – This study found that implementation of process innovation and service innovation as their functional strategy could assist to attain better performance in Malaysia hotel industry. Entirely the findings provided new insight to the hotel management in understanding the role of innovation strategies in generating enhanced performance. Originality/value – Process innovation and service innovation in the service industry have received very limited empirical attention in current innovation literature. This study extended the body of knowledge in innovation literature, particularly in hospitality sector in Malaysia.

The study aims to evaluate the moderating role of service innovation on the relationship between corporate reputation and the performance of hotels in Kenya. The study design used was cross-sectional descriptive utilizing the mixed approach. The target that served as the study population, was General Managers of all the 4-star hotels in Kenya. Primary data was collected by the use of a self-administered semi-structured questionnaire and secondary data from hotel records, journals, and government publications. Data analysis involved qualitative and quantitative techniques, analyses of variance (ANOVA), and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) which tested the hypothesized relationship in this study. Statistical software such as Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 21, MS-Excel for Windows 8, Analysis of Moment Structures version 17, and SmartPLS version 2.0 was used for analysis. The theoretical models and hypotheses were tested based on empirical data gathered from 43 General Managers. The study findings indicate that corporate reputation positively and significantly influences performance (C.R = 5.907 at 5% ?-level) and service innovation moderates (R2 change = 0.054) the relationship between corporate reputation and performance. The study results are meant to benefit hotel industry policymakers, academicians, and other opportunistic entrepreneurs. The recommendation is that the hotel industry should invest seriously in corporate reputation so as to influence customer purchase behavior and improved performance.

Collecting data in this study was conducted using a survey by questionnaire to 114 students by stratified random sampling method. Methods of data analysis using multiple linear regression, F test and test T. The result is a marketing mix that significantly is the product, place, and physical evidence. And that does not affect the marketing mix is price, promotion, place, and processes

AbstractThis paper explores the influence of innovation approaches on innovation performance and firm performance among Indian biotechnology firms. Further, it aims to discuss the interceding role of innovation performance between innovation practices and firm performance. A criteria-based snowball sampling method was adopted for data collection. The collection of data was carried out using a web survey from 200 biotechnology firms located across India. The data is analysed using a covariance-based structural equation modelling (SEM) technique. The results indicate that the adoption of innovation practices positively influences the firms’ innovation and overall performance. Furthermore, the results confirm the mediating role of innovation performance between innovation approach adoption and firm performance. Firms, particularly from the biotechnology industry, can use these results to assess their performance and formulate or modify their strategy to improve their innovation and overall performance.

Purpose Consistent with the dynamic capabilities view tenets, this paper aims to conceptualize a theoretical framework of service innovation in the hotel industry. Design/methodology/approach This study uses a qualitative method with a content analysis approach. The data were collected using a snowball sampling method and semi-structured interviews with 14 experts in Tehran's hotel industry. Findings The findings demonstrate that the most significant factors are using the new technology, keeping up with it, training human labor, being up-to-date and adopting new infrastructures. Results also reveal that improper management and lack of knowledge are the most critical factors behind service innovation failure in the hotel industry. Regarding the infrastructures needed to develop service innovation in the hotel industry, the results show that adopting the newest technology in diverse aspects, human infrastructure, the capital and appropriate space and place are the key factors. Originality/value This paper contributes to the literature by linking the service innovation perspective to the dynamic capabilities view. It explains how hotels can enhance service innovation to gain a competitive advantage. Therefore, both academicians and hoteliers can develop action plans by selecting and managing the service innovation process.

Public service innovation is the primary key to good governance development launched in most countries in the world, including Indonesia. There have been many innovative programs carried out by several Ministries, Institutions, and Local Governments in practice. Still, there is no comprehensive portrait related to the tradition of public service innovation. The study aims to obtain a complete description of the public service innovation practices in 2020 using indicators of innovators, types of innovation, goals and achievements of innovation, policy sector and geographical aspects. This descriptive-explorative research type applies an archival method that focuses on secondary data usage, and the results are then analyzed using both Nvivo 12 and SPSS. The result shows that: (1) Innovators are dominated by local governments because the scope of service issues is more varied and specific. (2) The type of policy innovation that is oriented to the process aspect dominates the proposed proposal because of the ease and implementation factor. (3) Most innovation outcomes are in problem-solving, which shows the orientation to problem-solving that is more practical and real impact. (4) The health sector is getting more attention in policy innovation because of the trend of actual needs in the field, making it the primary sector. (5) The institution participants in Java island are much higher than outside Java, showing the imbalance in the quality of human resources

Living labs provide a new, under researched form of open innovation. Although open innovation is increasingly popular in service development, extant literature lacks knowledge of different open service innovation strategies, which companies can employ. This chapter focuses on strategies that firms can take in co-creating service innovations through living labs. The authors found nine open service innovation strategies based on an analysis of 26 living labs in four countries. Understanding of strategies and their links with incremental or radical innovation outcomes aid managers to set up an efficient innovation management. Knowledge of various strategies helps companies to succeed in service development and innovation novelty assessment based on the characteristics of the living lab.

Despite the high level of awareness of sustainable practices around the globe, and literatures on its adoption in businesses, studies showed very few studies are conducted in less advanced countries like Nigeria. Given the rising consumption of resources, apprehension for the environs and sudden realization among people for practices that are friendlier, the trend is gradually picking up in the Nigerian hotel industry. The hotel is facing challenges accepting green practices due to little information on green practice and its perceived benefits, government inability to enforce regulations on environmental sanitation, and absence of enlightenment promotion of green practice. This study strives to determine factors likely to motivate hotels to adopt innovative ways of operating in Nigeria. Based on Rogers’ theory of innovation diffusion, this study decided to establish perceived innovation characteristics, perceived environmental characteristics, organizational characteristics and stakeholders’ influence as determinants for likely adoption. Data was collected from General Managers of hotels (363 in number) in Abuja and Lagos. Using Partial Least Squares (PLS) path modelling, the findings indicate all perceived predictors positively correlated to likelihood of adoption.
