Poverty studies need to be carried out in new ways since the established ones have not had the support to catalyze policies that eradicate it. So it is, that has increased the number of poor. The objective of this essay proposes a different manner of generating knowledge about poverty. Here it is established that, instead of observing deficiencies, we look at potentialities that support the generation of transdisciplinary alternatives to reconstruct life projects. This document presents a reflective analysis - method used - on the concept of the decolonization of power with the objective of justifying the urgency on the decolonization of the academic knowledge that is cultivated on the poverty. It is considered the need to include the thinking of the poor about how they look at themselves and how they manage to "bullfight" the uncertainty and the social and ecological complexity in which they live. But not to create charity, or paternalistic projects, but so that this procedure is taken as potentialities. Finally, this paper proposes that theory and practice shall be built on an alliance of - erudite and daily knowledge - to form knowledge-generating chains. In order to create solutions "handcrafted, born of a strong sense of community: intercultural and interdisciplinary - based on the pluri-diverse and the multi-universe. This would trigger a new look on poverty, remove adverse labels to place potentialities, strengths and hopes of all those individuals who have survived the grievance and adversity that the one-dimensional vision has imposed.

The distributions of the global interfacial widths, correlation functions, and the local interfacial widths of the growth process described by the one-dimensional Edward-Wilkinson equation are shown to be denumerable convolutions of exponential distributions. The same conclusions can also be extended to the distributions of the global interfacial widths for another linear growth equation, describing some super-rough growth processes, in both one- and two-dimensional cases. Most of these distributions display the lognormal-like behavior. We propose that the mechanism provided by the accumulation of exponential random variables may contribute to a lot of the lognormal-like behavior observed in the social and natural sciences.

This research represents a radiography of motherhood in the largest Women’s Prison in Mexico and Latin America - Saint Martha Social Rehabilitation Center for Women, located in Mexico City. In April 2020 there were detained 1247 women, 80% of them mothers. The focus of the study is on those female prisoners who became mothers during their detention period and chose to keep their babies with them inside the prison. Interviews have revealed that the average length of their sentence is approximately 27 years and, in many cases, the baby’s father is in prison as well. The study starts with analyzing the social costs of women’s incarceration and follows the respondents’ path, from the moment they find out that they are pregnant to day-to-day aspects of a mother’s and a child’s life in a prison and to the moment they are separated from their children. The reasons why couples decide to have a baby are taken into account, along with the living conditions, the baby’s nutrition, health care, early education and the way the mother expects her baby’s emotional development to be affected, by the fact that he/she had spent the first years of life in prison.

Sustainable development, the basic social,
economic and ecological strategy of the late
20th century at the national and international
level, is gradually giving its place to green
growth. This change is associated with important
socioeconomic adjustments. We argue
that although green growth has moved away
from the one-dimensional concept of economic
growth, by incorporating the environmental
dimension, apart from the economic
one, at the same time it neglects the social
aspect that constitutes the third dimension
of sustainable development. Therefore, the
widely proposed in recent years green growth
strategy could be characterized as a major social
drawback.

Using data obtained from Spanish surveys on the public perception of science, this article presents a critical review of current practices of population profile segmentation, including the one-dimensional representation of perceived risks and benefits and of the systematic underestimation of critical attitudes to the social impact of science and technology. We use discriminant analysis to detect a somewhat hidden cluster in the Spanish population which we call ‘critical engagers’. These individuals are critically and socially responsible and are not reticent about expressing concern regarding scientific-technological change. While they hold an overall positive attitude towards change of this kind, they are at the same time well aware of the risks posed by particular fields of application. We highlight the academic interest and political value of these individuals, attributing to this population a mature and intelligent stance which may well be employed in enhancing the relationship between science and society.
