This paper examines international relocation determinants of Czech manufacturing companies in order to estimate the probability of potential delocalizations. The research is based on statistical evaluation of "internal keep-factors" (particular company features strengthening the location inertia of manufacturing), which are divided into three main groups - capital intensity, complexity of value chain and business sophistication. Keep-factors, represented by six financial indicators, were examined on the company level. The sample covers 692 Czech manufacturing companies (foreign owned) with one hundred or more employees. The main goal is to identify regions threatened by delocalization, which is caused by high-level concentration of "footloose" companies.

This chapter proposes a knowledge space concept and a recursive approach to servitizing in the manufacturing industry. Manufacturing companies need to move up the value chain and compete on the basis of value delivered rather than on the basis of typical products. Therefore, more corporations are adding value to their core corporate offerings through services, which is called servitization, and the strength of service activities within the manufacturing industry (servitization) has become the main source of competitive advantage. This chapter identifies two exclusive approaches to adapting servitization in the manufacturing industry called the knowledge space concept and recursive approach, which also explains the value co-creation process with customers through integrating “B-to-B to C,” which produces a company that is a value provider.

Manufacturing companies are increasingly moving up the value chain by expanding their value offering to include service components, namely Product Service Systems (PSS). Due to the fundamental differences between the provision of products and services, many struggle to effectively integrate the two into a single cohesive offering. This is particularly true of companies operating in the medical device field as, due to the high level of regulatory requirements and controls, implementation of the ‘soft' components of service provision is difficult. The aim of the research is to facilitate companies to move up the value chain from product to product-service provision. Once identified, barriers can then be directly addressed and overcome, thereby allowing the development of a cohesive PSS offering. This will be achieved by identifying existing cultural barriers in relation to the application of PSS strategy within a product-orientated business. This information can be used to facilitate the application of PSS models with produc-orientated companies. This paper details qualitative research, undertaken with eight product-orientated medical device companies and two service practitioners, which establishes, details and analyses the primary cultural barriers in relation to product to product-service transition. These cultural barriers are further extrapolated through a supporting literature research.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to review current continuous improvement implementation models and frameworks, and present a new conceptual framework tailored specifically to the needs of UK manufacturing companies. Design/methodology/approach The paper details the in-depth review of 20 existing models or frameworks for continuous improvement implementation, demonstrating the need for a new industry and region specific solution. Through the incorporation of previous findings from literature, coupled with the positive aspects of the current offerings, a new conceptual framework for continuous improvement implementation in UK manufacturing companies is presented. Findings The paper demonstrates the need for industry and region specific frameworks and demonstrates that current models and frameworks do not completely fulfil the objective of the research. A new continuous improvement implementation framework is therefore presented in a user friendly format, comprising positive aspects of previous models and frameworks where applicable. Research limitations/implications The focus of the research is limited to the UK and the manufacturing industry. It is therefore not clear the applicability of the framework presented to other regions and industries. The framework presented is also conceptual at this stage and requires validation through interview and application. Practical implications The framework presented will provide senior managers wishing to implement continuous improvement an understanding of the high level process, as well as awareness of their role within the roll out. Overall, the framework provides a clear guide whilst also allowing for individual tailoring of the elements contained to the needs of the company. Originality/value The paper presents a new conceptual framework; the first to be tailored to the needs of UK manufacturing companies. The framework has also been demonstrated to be a more robust solution than those currently in existence.

The manufacturing industry majorly constitutes electrical, electronics, telecommunication, mechanical engineering, and textile companies. This sector provides more employment for the skilled level employee than that of service and information technology sectors. Besides, the manufacturing industry significantly contributes to the economy. Hence, the employees working in such companies are expected to be engaged with the goals of the company. A high level of engagement leads to productivity. This study aims to understand the level of socially inclined employee engagement and its impact on the perceived image of the company’s CSR activities. The study uses Partial Least Square – Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) to determine the association between employee engagement and CSR activity. The results indicate that there exists a positive association between engagement level and positive perception of CSR activity. The instrument to measure this association is developed and supported with the evidence from reliability tests and validity test

Productivity plays a significant role for most companies in order to measure the efficiency. In reality there is an essential need to evaluate the different factors which increasing productivity and achieving the high level of quality, high production rate , machine utilization. On the other hand, manufacturing companies are striving to sustain their competitiveness by improving productivity and quality of manufacturing industry. So it can be acquired by finding ways to deal with various industrial problems which have affected the productivity of manufacturing systems. This paper aims at applying statistical analysis and computer simulation to recognize and to weight the significance of different factors in the production line. Based on the final result the two factors which are B (Number of labor) and C (Failure time of lifter) have the most significant effect on the manufacturing system productivity. In order to achieve the maximum productivity the factors should be placed on the levels which are: A= -1, B=1, C=1 and D=1. This means that the service rate of mixer = UNIF (20, 40), number of labor=20, failure time of lifter =60 min and number of permil=5 respectively.

To compete effectively in the global marketplace of the twenty-first century, manufacturing companies are trying to maintain a high level of flexibility and responsiveness to achieve agility and to remain competitive. Manufacturers are under tremendous pressure to improve productivity and quality while reducing costs. The new competition is in terms of reduced cost, improved quality products with higher performance, a wider range of products and better services all delivered simultaneously to enhance value to customers. In such environment providing good quality product at low cost for a medium scale industry has become very tough. To provide good quality product at low cost, small industries need a formulation of some manufacturing approaches like agile manufacturing to manufacture defect free products within their materials cost limit. Medium scale steel manufacturing industries like Magnum steel limited (MSL), banmore are facing problems of higher rejections in form of wastes so as to increase their cost. This paper aims to analyze the application of agile manufacturing in magnum steel limited in order to reduce wastages through implementing lean tools and techniques. An agility audit questionnaire is used for assessing the agility level of the company to identify the current level of performance within the company with respect to the key elements of agility. MSL’s agile experience is reported including a list of recommendation for improving its competitiveness to offer solution alternatives not only to the current problems but also to the ones that may be encountered in the future.

on job performance among employees from the manufacturing industry. Methodology: The data is analyzed through a survey (questionnaire) from 152 employees in one of the manufacturing companies in Penang, Malaysia. Hypotheses for all direct effects between the predictors (eg. interpersonal communication and task design) and criterion (job performance) are tested using regression analysis.  Result: Results presented that employees in this company have a high level of job performance (µ = 3.70); interpersonal communication (µ =3.64) and task design (µ =3.66). Also, positive correlations are found between employees’ performance and interpersonal communication (r=.53, p=.00) and task design (r=.54, p=.00). Implications: Thus, this research provided a fruitful knowledge regarding the level of employees’ performance as well as their internal communication and task design; among employees in one of the manufacturing company in Malaysia.

Using an appropriate measure to assess firms’ performance is essential. We analyzed inventory turnover (IT) as a performance measure in manufacturing processes because IT ratios are critical in the manufacturing industry and publicly available objective measures. Using the data of 421 manufacturing companies in Korea from 2010 to 2018, we conducted an extensive analysis of the factors affecting IT by segment and its correlation with other financial ratios. Then, we compare performances between the top and bottom companies determined by Altman’s Z score approach. We found that, for the overall manufacturing industry, IT ratios were negatively correlated with gross margin and debt cost, but positively correlated with capital intensity, although the results varied by segment. Moreover, IT ratios did not show significant correlations with other financial ratios categorized for growth, profitability, stability, productivity, and value of companies. However, adjusted IT (AIT) can be a good indicator of firms’ performance in terms of financial sustainability. Results also revealed that the top 10% companies showed higher AIT ratios than the bottom 10% in most segments of the manufacturing industry. The analysis of this study can be a starting point to search for a composite index to evaluate manufacturing processes comprehensively.

The semiconductor industry has a unique vertically disintegrated structure that consists of various firms specializing in a narrow range of the value chain. To ensure manufacturing and logistics efficiency, the semiconductor manufacturers considerably rely on 3PL suppliers to achieve supply chain excellence. However, 3PL supplier selection is a complex decision-making process involving multiple selection criteria. The goal of this paper is to identify the key 3PL selection criteria by employing the nonadditive fuzzy integral approach. Unlike the traditional multicriterion decision-making (MCDM) methods which often assume independence among criteria and additive importance weights, the nonadditive fuzzy integral is a more effective approach to solve the dependency among criteria, vagueness in information, and essential fuzziness of human judgment. In this paper, we demonstrate an empirical case that employs the nonadditive fuzzy integral to evaluate the importance weight of selection criteria and choose the most appropriate 3PL supplier. The research result can become a valuable reference for manufacturing companies operating in comparable situations. Moreover, the systematic framework presented in this study can be easily extended to the analysis of other decision-making domains.

This study aims to determine tax avoidance in the Indonesian manufacturing industry. The control variable is the industrial sub-sector. In this study tax avoidance is proxied as book tax differences. This study focuses on manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) for the 2015-2018 period. Using the STATA 13 regression data panel, this study shows that capital intensity has no significant effect on tax avoidance and inventory intensity has no significant effect on tax avoidance. However, this study found that industry auditors' specialization had a positive effect on tax avoidance. This study contributes to enhancing empirical evidence of audit quality, proxied by industry auditors' specialization can provide assurance of managers' tax avoidance activities did not violate the fairness principle, thus increase tax avoidance activities.
