Background: Food waste problem in some hospitals in Indonesia is still quite high at >20%. The proportion of residual high enough lies in the morning meal. This results in inadequate nutrition intake so that it affects the length of stay and increases patient morbidity and mortality. Food waste can be due to individual factors, dietary habits, food intake, and food quality. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the relationship of depression, intake, and appearance of food with the waste of the morning meal in hospitalized patients. Methods: This was a cross sectional study involving 47 respondents that was chosen using a simple random sampling technique at the RSI Jemursari Surabaya. Morning food waste was collected for measurement using food scale; patient’s psychological condition, food intake and appearance of food were measured using questionnaires. Statistical analysis used was Spearman and Chi Square test. Results: Most of the respondents did not experience anxiety and depression disorder. Most respondents have less energy and protein intake. There was a relationship between depression (p=0.02) and energy intake (p=0.035) with the waste of the morning meal. There is a relationship of protein intake in the morning with the rest of the animal side (p = 0.002). However, there was no correlation between appearance (p = 0.64), large portion (p = 0.4), and presentation method (p=0.83) with waste of the morning meal. Conclusion: Food waste can be affected by a person's depression and food intake. Feeding the patient not only comes from hospital food alone, but from outside the hospital as well. However, food outside the hospital does not affect the intake so that the higher the patient leaves the food, the lower the intake of energy and protein. Communication and education should be done to patients to try to spend the food and pay attention to the intake.ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Permasalahan sisa makanan di beberapa rumah sakit di Indonesia masih cukup tinggi  yaitu >20%.

Even if adolescence is a window of opportunity to break the intergenerational cycle of malnutrition, adolescents are the neglected age groups. Hence, information regarding the nutritional status of adolescents is lacking, making creating and implementing intervention programs difficult. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and determinants of thinness among school adolescents in Finote Selam Town, Northwest Ethiopia. A school-based cross-sectional study among adolescent students aged 10–19 in public primary and secondary schools was carried out in Finote Selam Town from February 05 to March 27, 2018. Stratified and simple random sampling techniques were employed to select study subjects. A total of 397 adolescent students were included in the study. Pretested structured questionnaires were used to collect the data. Data were entered using Epi Info version 7 and analyzed using SPSS version 20 and WHO AnthroPlus software. A multivariable binary logistic regression analysis was employed to identify factors associated with thinness. Crude and adjusted odds ratios with 95% level significance were used to measure the strength of association, and statistical significance was declared at p value less than 0.05. The prevalence of thinness among adolescents was 14.9%. Early adolescent stage (AOR = 4.81; 95% CI : 1.23, 18.51), being male adolescent students (AOR = 2.33; 95% CI : 1.60, 3.40), having less than 1000 birr family monthly income (AOR = 6.54; 95% CI : 3 : 82, 14.89), having 1000–2000 birr family monthly income (AOR = 3.47; 95% CI : 1.15, 7.45), and using well water (AOR = 3.82; 95% CI : 1.46, 10.04) were significantly associated with thinness at 95% confidence interval. The study revealed that prevalence of thinness was high in the study area. Sex, place of residence, and family monthly income were found to be important factors associated with thinness among the respondents.

(1) Background: Several research works have shown the relationship between physical activity (PA), adherence to the Mediterranean diet (MD) and health. Nevertheless, there are few studies that demonstrate the relationship of these habits with academic performance, and specifically with academic stress. (2) Methods: This descriptive, non-experimental, and cross-sectional study aims to analyse the associations between these variables in a sample composed of 515 university students, using as main instruments the KIDMED, PAQ-A and the Scale of Academic Stress. (3) Results: The university students analysed showed higher levels of academic stress for women, and especially in the academic obligations and communication of own ideas. In addition, it was shown that those university students that had a body mass index (BMI) associated with being overweight or under-weight were the respondents with higher levels of stress. Finally, the students with a low adherence to MD had higher scores for stress associated with the communication of their own ideas, while PA was not related to academic stress. When sex and BMI variables were controlled in the regression model, no associations were obtained between stress and diet quality. (4) Conclusions: This study shows interesting implications in the treatment of academic stress. Although stress was not associated with diet and physical activity, it was linked to a worse state of health associated with states of being overweight, being of special interest the treatment of stress in women.
