Aesthetics is a philosophy of the concept of beauty which is the reason people takeorthodontic treatment. One of the factors that influence aesthetics is a smile. Apartfrom personal experiences and social environment, the patient's perception of theaesthetics of the smile after orthodontic treatment can be influenced bycharacteristics. This study aims to determine the perception of smile aesthetics inpost-orthodontic patients based on characteristics. This type of research is descriptiveanalytic with cross sectional design. The study population were patients who wererecorded in medical records at the practice of drg. Josep Ginting, Sp. Ort in Pontianak,West Kalimantan Province with a sample size of 30 people. Collecting data bydistributing questionnaires containing nine aesthetic indicators of smiles through theWhatsApp application. Data were analyzed using the Mann Whitney test. Based onthe results of the study, it was seen that there were differences in the aestheticperceptions of respondents' smiles based on age (p = 0.017), gender (p = 0.004) andeducation (p = 0.015). The conclusion of this study is that there are differences inpatient perceptions of aesthetic smile after orthodontic treatment based on thecharacteristics in the practice of drg. Josep Ginting, drg, Sp. Ort in Pontianak, WestKalimantan.

Objectives: To evaluate the level of knowledge, understanding, and impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on adult patients regarding their ongoing fixed orthodontic treatment. Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional and descriptive survey was conducted on 108 adult patients undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment at GSL Dental College (GSLDC), India. All the candidates were aged 18 years and above, who were in lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic and devoid of treatment. Results: Among the patients 43.5% were male and 56.5% were female; 22.3% were not at all aware that the COVID-19 virus spreads quickly in a dental setup; 64.8% were definitely willing for their status disclosure and to undergo pretreatment screening; 71.3% were definitely willing to adhere to strict appointment timings for adequate sanitization of the clinical area; 60.2% thought that missed appointments during the COVID-19 pandemic would prolong their overall orthodontic treatment and affect their treatment outcome; and 51.9% were financially affected due to the pandemic. Conclusions: Not all adult orthodontic patients were in knowledge of COVID-19 cross infection. The majority were in a state of understanding and willing to follow infection-eradicating protocols. Patients’ view on overall orthodontic treatment was altered due to the psychological and financial impact of COVID-19.

Intelligence is the ability to apply the knowledge and experiences that have been gained into the effort tasks are challenging and flexible book. Behaviour is an action that involves aspects of affective, cognitive, and psychomotor. Goal: This study aims to determine the relationship between the behavior of student nurses intelligence level II STIKes Santa Elisabeth Medan. Method: This study uses correlation with cross sectional design. The study population was all students / i Ners Level II STIKes Santa Elisabeth Medan as 65. The samples used were 65 respondents, the sampling technique in this research is using purposive sampling. The instrument of this study using questionnaire and observation sheets by using product moment test person. Result: Intelligence students as many as 30 people (46.2%) classified as having an average level of intelligence. A total of 32 people (49.2%) classified as well-behaved students. Person product moment test results obtained p value = 0.172 where a significant level of p> 0.05 so that this value proves that the absence of a relationship between the behavior of student nurses intelligence level II STIKes Santa Elisabeth Medan. Conclusion: Recommended for institutions, motivating students in balancing the behavior and intelligence.

Objective: To assess the psychological stress or phobia due to dental procedure among patients. Study Design: Descriptive cross-sectional study Place and Duration of Study: Department of Orthodontic, Bacha Khan College of Dentistry/Medical Teaching Institute, Mardan from 1st January 2020 to 31st August 2021. Methodology: One hundred and twenty patients coming for orthodontal treatment with age between 12-31 years were enrolled. The demographic and psychological stress information was recorded. Results: There were more females (65%) than males (35%). The mean age was 15.5±3.2 years. About 82.5% patients reported high level of psychological stress or phobias towards dental treatments while 19.1% were those who had moderate psychological stress or phobias. Majority of the patient’s fear of pain was between 12-17 years. Patients having highest anxiety also belonged to the same group Conclusion: Dental phobias and fears are widespread among patients seeking dental treatments. Orthodontists should recognize the dental phobias and fears so they efficiently interconnect with the patients. Key words: Orthodontic treatment, Pain, Dental phobia

AbstractObjective:The aim of this study was to explore the significance of fatigue among relatives of palliative patients.Method:This pilot study has a descriptive and cross-sectional design and is the report of four open-ended questions focusing on the relatives' experiences of fatigue. The study population consisted of relatives of patients who were cared for in palliative care settings either at home or in an institution in Uppsala County during a specific day.Results:The relatives were very tired and identified worries, uncertainty, the patient's suffering, and many demands as the causes for the fatigue. The most obvious consequences of the tiredness were a lack of motivation, feelings of insufficiency and apathy, and putting their own interests aside. Many relatives expressed that having the company of close family members, taking exercise and spending time outdoors gave them strength to carry on. The health care system could make the situation easier for relatives of patients in palliative care by providing good care for the patient, and psychosocial support and respite care for the relatives.Significance of results:The result of the pilot study is only preliminary, but it showed that relatives caring for patients in a late palliative phase suffer from great fatigue and require more attention, both scientifically and in the clinical settings.

Preeclampsia and eclampsia is a pregnancy complication caused directly by pregnancy itself. Successful handling of preeclampsia is determined by the compliance of pregnant women in antenatal care. Pregnant women who do not checkups cause no detection of high risk factors experienced during pregnancy. This is because women do not obey the doctor's orders to carry out checks ANC, diet and adequate rest.This study aims to identify and analyze the effect of maternal adherence (Antenatal Care, diet and rest) to the successful treatment of preeclampsia in Batam Elisabeth Hospital in 2014. The method used is explanatory survey with cross sectional design. The study population is the entire third trimester pregnant women. The research sample that is the entire third trimester pregnant women who checkups at Saint Elisabeth Hospital Batam as many as 47 people. Data were analyzed by multiple logistic regression.The results showed that there was influence compliance in the rest of the successful handling of preeclampsia (p = 0.002), whereas compliance in Antenatal care (p = 0.076) and compliance in the diet (p = 0.631) did not affect the success of treatment of preeclampsia.It is advisable for pregnant women to reduce the routine activities and undertake light activity in an effort to prevent preeclampsia, and it is expected that health professionals, in order to provide counseling for pregnant women who perform health checks, on the benefits of antenatal care, follow the diet and rest in improving maternal health during pregnancy.

The aim of the study was to assess the pattern of malocclusion in different ethnic group of Mauritian population visiting the Orthodontic Department at Mauras College of Dentistry and Hospital, Republic of Mauritius. The study population comprised of 624 patients who visited the orthodontic department during 2010. The clinical examination was conducted by a well-calibrated orthodontist. The data were recorded in the case sheets and was analyzed for presence of angles class I, class II, and class III malocclusion in both male and female patients of Asian, African, Caucasian, and Chinese ethnicity aged 5–55 years. Malocclusion was found to be high in females compared to males. 414 patients (150 male + 264 female) presented with class I, 182 patients (52 male + 130 female) presented with class II, and 28 patients (12 male + 16 female) presented with class III. Asian ethnic group were more affected and patient seeking orthodontic treatment was high in 11–15 years age group.

Abstract: Loss of teeth can be caused by various diseases such as caries and periodontal disease. Losing teeth can lead people to emotional impact as well as impaired functions of speaking, chewing, and aesthetics. The use of denture to replace missing teeth is important to avoid these impacts. This study aimed to determine patients’ perception as users of removable acrylic based denture in Kotamobagu. This was a descriptive study with a cross sectional design. Population were 203 users of removable acrylic based denture at dentist services in Kotamobagu. Samples were 67 respondents obtained by using Solvin formula and simple random sampling method. In this study we used questionnaire consisted of 25 questions. The results showed that the patient’s perception was in good category based on competence, access, needs, time, and budget.Keywords: patient’s perception, removable denture, dentist serviceAbstrak: Kehilangan gigi dapat disebabkan oleh berbagai penyakit seperti karies dan penyakit periodontal. Kehilangan gigi dapat menimbulkan dampak emosional serta terganggunya fungsi bicara, pengunyahan, dan estetika. Penggunaan gigi tiruan untuk menggantikan gigi yang hilang penting dilakukan untuk menghindari dampak tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi pasien pengguna gigi tiruan lepasan berbasis akrilik yang menggunakan jasa dokter gigi di Kotamobagu. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif dengan desain potong lintang. Populasi yaitu pasien pengguna gigi tiruan lepasan berbasis akrilik yang menggunakan jasa dokter gigi di Kotamobagu yang berjumlah 203 jiwa. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan rumus Slovin menghasilkan 67 sampel, dan metode pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan simple random sampling. Studi ini menggunakan kuesioner yang berjumlah 25 pertanyaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan berdasarkan kompetensi, akses, kebutuhan, waktu, dan biaya persepsi pasien termasuk kategori baik.Kata kunci : persepsi pasien, gigi tiruan lepasan, jasa dokter gigi

Abstract: In Indonesia, children dental and mouth health is on the apprehensive level. The caries prevalence in children of 5 to 9 years old is 92.6% and the proportion of brushing their teeth properly is only 1.4%. The control and prevention of plaque forming can be done in a simple, effective, and practical way through brushing the teeth thoroughly and regularly. This study was aimed to obtain the tooth brushing technique and plaque index among students at SD GMIM Siloam Tonsealama (elementary school). This was a descriptive study with a cross sectional design. Study population consisted of elementary students og grade 3 to 5. We used total sampling method. There were 42 students as subjects. Data were obtained by observing their tooth brushing techniques. The results showed that all students used combination technique of tooth brushing. Most students had plaque index of moderate category. The mean plaque index of the subjects was 2.67. In conclusion, students at GMIM in Tonsealama used combination technique of tooth brushing, and their plaque index was categorized as moderate.Keywords: plaque index, brushing teeth technique Abstrak: Kesehatan gigi dan mulut anak di Indonesia masih sangat memrihatinkan. Prevalensi karies pada anak usia 5-9 tahun dilaporkan mencapai 92,6%, dan proporsi waktu menyikat gigi dengan benar sebesar 1,4%. Usaha untuk mengontrol dan mencegah pemben-tukan plak dapat dilakukan secara sederhana, efektif, dan praktis yaitu dengan cara menggosok gigi secara teliti dan teratur. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran teknik menyikat gigi dan indeks plak siswa SD GMIM Siloam Tonsealama. Jenis penelitian ialah deskriptif dengan desain potong lintang. Populasi penelitian terdiri dari siswa sekolah dasar kelas 3 sampai dengan 5. Pengambilan sampel menggunakan total sampling. Terdapat seba-nyak 42 siswa sebagai subyek penelitian. Pengumpulan data menggunakan formulir pemeriksaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa teknik menyikat kombinasi digunakan oleh seluruh subyek. Indeks plak paling banyak pada kategori sedang. Rerata nilai indeks plak yaitu 2,67. Simpulan penelitian ini ialah teknik menyikat gigi yang digunakan oleh siswa SD GMIM di Tonsealama ialah teknik kombinasi dengan indeks plak tergolong kategori sedangKata kunci: indeks plak, teknik menyikat gigi

Background: Patient undergoes orthodontic treatment with removable and fixed appliances will usually complaint of pain and discomfort. The level of pain and discomfort experience by patient will determined the cooperation and compliance towards the treatment. This study explores the perception of pain and type of discomfort experience by patients when undergoes orthodontic treatment. Material and method: This cross-sectional study involve a set of questionnaires regarding patient social demographic and factors contributing to pain and discomfort among patients with removable and fixed appliances. Result: This study shows that the most common discomfort experienced by patients with removable appliance are increased in saliva flow, interferes with mastication and altering speech. Apart from that, ulcers, pain in the mouth and appliance breakages are the most common pain experience by the patients with fixed appliances. Conclusion: In conclusion, majority of patients will experience some form of pain and discomfort during orthodontic treatments. Thus, information regarding pain and discomfort during orthodontic treatment should be clearly convey during the first initial appointment to prepare patient mental and physically.
