The existing basic methods of studying the propagation of seismic-explosive waves in various mining-geological and morphological conditions to assess the impact of explosions on buildings and structures are briefly outlined. The results of studying the effect of the influence of the terrain on seismic vibrations during the passage of seismic explosive waves in them are presented. The issues of organizing experiments in full-scale field conditions, the time of which entirely depends on the time of drilling and blasting operations, are highlighted, which significantly slows down the stages of design, construction and operation of buildings and structures. Along with various explosions, as well as existing expensive installations and stands that create artificial vibrations for buildings and structures, it is offered detonation method for creating vibrations in the ground, both in design and construction, so and in the operation of buildings and structures. The detonation method proposed by the authors for creating artificial ground vibrations using a gas detonation unit makes it possible to simplify and accelerate the experiments and reduces labour and material costs.

This paper presents the results of a full-scale field experiment on the stability of a slurry-filled diaphragm wall trench. The objective of this experiment was to observe the failure pattern of a slurry-supported trench excavated in sandy ground. Ground responses, including settlement and lateral deformation of the surrounding ground adjacent to the experimental trench, were carefully monitored during the experiment. The stability of the trench was examined by lowering the slurry level in stages. The trench was deliberately failed. Field observations indicated that the experimental trench failed in 2 h in a progressive sliding pattern that resulted in a near-hemispherical cave-in of the adjacent ground. In this paper, a failure mechanism of the trench is proposed and an analytical method is adopted to back-analyze the stability of the trench. The stability of the trench and the failure pattern can be accurately analyzed using the method of Tsai and Chang.Key words: full-scale experiment, field test, slurry trench, stability analysis.

The Dolos, a new type of armour unit which closely resembles a normal ship's anchor, was developed and tried out under field conditions on the main breakwater of East London harbour. Since these full-scale Dolosse proved very successful, tests were made in a wave channel to compare the stability of Dolosse with other known types of armour blocks. The test results showed that the Dolos is outstandingly stable, and since manufacture and random placing of Dolosse offers no particular difficulties it is concluded that in many cases the use of Dolosse in armour layers may lead to more economical solutions for rubble mound breakwater and shore protection works.

In the present research, a kind of special emulsions explosive was prepared with taking Ferric nitrate and Manganese nitrate as main oxidants and composite oil as fuel, in which the Magnesium and zinc elements were added and doped in Mn ferrites. The results of which were compared by that of detonation of gas (Hydrogen and oxygen). Results indicated that the detonation products were the same structure, i.e. Jacobsite structure. That is to say, Magnesium and zinc elements were successfully doped in MnFe2O4 crystals. TEM indicated that the powders were spherical and average size was about 20~30nm. The product that obtained by gas detonation was better dispersed and worse uniform than that by explosive. Zn and high content Mg both had great effect on the stability and detonation properties of the explosive, which could produce impurities in detonation products.

In this study, for the establishment of a safety evaluation method, non-destructive tests were performed by developing a full-scale model pier and simulating scour on the ground adjacent to a field pier. The surcharge load (0–250 kN) was applied to the full-scale model pier to analyze the load’s effect on the stability. For analyzing the pier’s behavior according to the impact direction, an impact was applied in the bridge axis direction, pier length direction, and pier’s outside direction. The impact height corresponded to the top of the pier. A 1-m deep scour was simulated along one side of the ground, which was adjacent to the pier foundation. The acceleration was measured using accelerometers when an impact was applied. The natural frequency, according to the impact direction and surcharge load, was calculated using a fast Fourier transform (FFT). In addition, the first mode (vibratory), second mode (vibratory), and third modes (torsion) were analyzed according to the pier behavior using the phase difference, and the effect of the scour occurrence on the natural frequency was analyzed. The first mode was most affected by the surcharge load and scour. The stability of the pier can be determined using the second mode, and the direction of the scour can be determined using the third mode.

SummaryCase reports cited in Medline or Biological Abstracts (1966-1996) were reviewed to evaluate the impact of vitamin K1 dietary intake on the stability of anticoagulant control in patients using coumarin derivatives. Reported nutrient-drug interactions cannot always be explained by the vitamin K1 content of the food items. However, metabolic data indicate that a consistent dietary intake of vitamin K is important to attain a daily equilibrium in vitamin K status. We report a diet that provides a stable intake of vitamin K1, equivalent to the current U.S. Recommended Dietary Allowance, using food composition data derived from high-performance liquid chromatography. Inconsistencies in the published literature indicate that prospective clinical studies should be undertaken to clarify the putative dietary vitamin K1-coumarin interaction. The dietary guidelines reported here may be used in such studies.

One of the main criteria for economic development is the size of the public debt and its dynamics. The article considers the impact of public debt on the financial security of Ukraine. The views of scientists on the essence of public debt and financial security of the state are substantiated. An analysis of the dynamics and structure of public debt of Ukraine for 2014-2019. It is proved that one of the main criteria for economic development is the size of public debt and its dynamics. State budget deficit, attracting and using loans to cover it have led to the formation and significant growth of public debt in Ukraine. The volume of public debt indicates an increase in the debt security of the state, which is a component of financial security. Therefore, the issue of the impact of public debt on the financial security of Ukraine is becoming increasingly relevant. The constant growth and large amounts of debt make it necessary to study it, which will have a positive impact on economic processes that will ensure the stability of the financial system and enhance its security.

Civil wars are one of the most pressing problems facing the world. Common approaches such as mediation, intervention, and peacekeeping have produced some results in managing ongoing civil wars, but they fall short in preventing civil wars in the first place. This book argues for considering civil wars from a developmental perspective to identify steps to assure that nascent, low-level armed conflicts do not escalate to full-scale civil wars. We show that highly structured intergovernmental organizations (IGOs, e.g. the World Bank or IMF) are particularly well positioned to engage in civil war prevention. Such organizations have both an enduring self-interest in member-state peace and stability and potent (economic) tools to incentivize peaceful conflict resolution. The book advances the hypothesis that countries that belong to a larger number of highly structured IGOs face a significantly lower risk that emerging low-level armed conflicts on their territories will escalate to full-scale civil wars. Systematic analyses of over 260 low-level armed conflicts that have occurred around the globe since World War II provide consistent and robust support for this hypothesis. The impact of a greater number of memberships in highly structured IGOs is substantial, cutting the risk of escalation by over one-half. Case evidence from Indonesia’s East Timor conflict, Ivory Coast’s post-2010 election crisis, and from the early stages of the conflict in Syria in 2011 provide additional evidence that memberships in highly structured IGOs are indeed key to understanding why some low-level armed conflicts escalate to civil wars and others do not.
