The aim of the present research is to investigate how fairy tales attract young learners’ interest in reading. Qualitative approach with ethnography method was applied. The participants involved consisted of 30 fifth graders and an English teacher of a public elementary school in Bekasi, West Java, Indonesia. The data were collected through observation, interview, and document analysis. The data were analyzed using data reduction, description, and verification. The finding demonstrated that fairy tales are proven to catch the young learners’ reading interest as they provide imaginative and enchanting content. By way of addition, it was indicated that affective and cognitive factors influence the students’ reading interest.

English young learners’ ability in reading comprehension is considerably below teachers’ expectation. Many students still rely on direct translation technique in comprehending reading text. Various techniques were developed to improve young learners reading comprehension such as jigsaw reading. However, teaching young learners need to involve all the senses as multimodality offers. The aims of the current study were (1) to gain some description on the process of integrating multimodality and jigsaw reading technique in teaching reading comprehension to young learners; (2) to examine the students’ response on the utilizing multimodality and jigsaw reading technique at a private elementary school; and (3) to find out the difficulties faced by the teacher in applying the technique. This research involved a class of five grader of Al Azhar 18 Islamic elementary school in Cianjur. It applied qualitative approach. The instruments used were observation sheet, interview, and document analysis. The results showed that there are three steps in applying the chosen technique including preparation, practice, and evaluation. The students’ response positively to the technique, since it gives them chance to work in a group and ask things they don’t know to their peer, and are very excited with different media provided by the teachers. As for the teachers, the difficulties are more related to the time constraints in preparing the materials that should be very vary and handling the grouping with diverse level of English among the young learners.Keywords: multimodalities, reading comprehension, action research, English for young learners

Abstract:  The purpose of this research is to describe the values of gotong royong in Banjarese society in Andhika village that has “a bahaul” tradition. Thus, the values of gotong royong have significance to social studies education as the learning source. This research used the qualitative approach, which the data collection were through interview, observation, and document study. The data was analized by using data reduction, display the data and verification or conclusions. The data verification is through these following steps, namely, extended observation, triangulation, and discussion with the colleagues. The results of the study show the values of Gotong royong in bahaul tradition are seen in these activities; taturukan, pangayuan, pangawahan, and lalawatan. The activities have a significant impact in Social Studies Education. The significant impact could be seen on the values in “bahaul” such as solidarity, tolerance and caring to a society. Thus, this study is able to enrich the source of Social Studies Education in the school. Keywords:      Gotong royong, bahaul tradition, banjarese society, social studies education. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan nilai-nilai gotong royong dalam masyarakat Banjar di desa Andhika pada acara bahaul dan signifikansinya dalam pembelajaran IPS di sekolah sebagai sumber belajar. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi dan studi dokumen. Data dianalisis melalui reduksi data, penyajian data dan  verifikasi/kesimpulan. Keabsahan data melalui perpanjangan waktu pengamatan,  triangulasi, dan cek-cek anggota. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa gotong royong dalam bahaul tampak pada aktivitas taturukan, pangayuan, pangawahan dan lalawatan. Aktivitas tersebut memiliki signifikansi dalam pendidikan IPS karena aktivitas bahaul memiliki nilai solidaritas, toleransi, dan peduli sosial sehingga memperkaya sumber belajar IPS di sekolah. Kata-kata Kunci: gotong royong, bahaul, masyarakat Banjar dan Pendidikan IPS

This research discusses the involving chain massage to accommodate young learners' learning style in which is conducted at grade 4 of one elementary school in Bandung. The aim of this research are (1) involving chain massage games in teaching English to the young learner, especially in grade 4 of an elementary school in Bandung, (2) finding out teacher’s and children’s responses toward the implementation of chain message in TEYL. This research uses a qualitative study where there are 40 students and one English teacher as the participants. The findings of this study show that chain messages can be considered as an effective activity of TEYL.The children seem to learn English more excitedly by game. With regard to the teacher, chain message game creates classroom activities more interesting and joyful because the children’s are involved in. Moreover, this game is also support different learning style of the children, visual, auditory and kinesthetic. However, the teachers found some obstacles in implementing the technique because they still children who easily get bored.

Activities that are followed by each child in their environment, have an impact that will be remembered until adulthood.  The women who surround the children's environment have a role in shaping the character of a child, leading to adolescent life to adulthood.  This study aims to explain the resilience of a child in participating in religious activities.  In this study, using a naturalistic qualitative approach, with locations in Rejomulyo Hamlet, Sarimulyo Village, Cluring District, Banyuwangi Regency.  To collect the data used observation methods and document analysis.  In testing the validity of the data, it was measured using the triangulation technique of sources, methods, extending observation time, checking with peers through discussion, and member-checking.  Data analysis was carried out by data reduction steps, data display and conclusion drawing.  The various kinds of situations and conditions that children have in the environment guided by the intensive role of women in increasing children's resilience are very significant.  Children get knowledge about obligations and sunnah in Islamic teachings and also socialize with the environment.  A child is able to understand that every problem that every child has has a way to increase resilience so that he is able to overcome every problem at hand.  The result of the role of women in accustoming religious activities to children is that they have increased resilience for a child.

The objectives of this study were to examine the impact of school from home in teaching and learning English for young learners. This study employed a case study approach, which is an embedded single-case design. A set of questionnaires was distributed to twelve young learners in the fourth grade of an elementary school in Singaraja and one English teacher. The young learners in this study were selected with purposive sampling, where participants were selected based on their parents' and teachers’ consent. Furthermore, an interview was also conducted with one English teacher from an elementary school in Singaraja to obtain the supplementary data. The findings indicate that the impact of school from home in teaching and learning English had some positive and negative impacts. Therefore, this study ends with suggestions for teachers and parents during school from home.

Character education is a noble cultivation of character which cannot be separated in the perfection of life. Character education is one of the efforts to instill noble character values in order to become a good person. It can be seen that the cultivation of this noble character is the foundation of the nation's character. But in fact that the character of the present era is in a phase of concern. This can be seen in many problems that focus on the loss of noble character that is not well named. So it is necessary to instill character early on through family, school, community and government. One of them is through religion which is very closely related to religious character. Which can be embedded either in spiritual activities, habituation through anything, for example with tambouric extracurricular. Therefore, researchers try to analyze any religious character that is embedded in the extracurricular. Therefore, this study analyzes the character contained in tambouric extracurricular with a focus on religious character in Muhammadiyah 11 Elementary School Semarang. Where the character values have 5 aspects, namely aspects of belief, aspects of worship, aspects of appreciation, aspects of knowledge, aspects of experience. Therefore, researchers use a qualitative approach. In this study using data collection techniques that are needed is by observation, interview and documentation. Based on the results of research that students have addressed aspects of religious character through tambourine extracurricular activities and habituation at SD Muhammadiyah 11 Semarang.

IMPLEMENTATION OF HUMANISM IN LEARNING OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS. This study aims to determine how the application of humanism in learning at Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi Elementary School, West Jakarta. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method in which data collection procedures are in the form of observation, interviews, document analysis or documentation and combination (triangulation). In addition, this study uses data analysis, namely by matching the pattern or pattern matching with the Campbell matchmaking technique. The results of the study found that the application of humanism in learning in grade 1 at Elementary School of Cinta kasih Tzu Chi was using the Cooperative Learning model. The curriculum used is the government’s recommended curriculum, namely the 2013 Curriculum with the addition of local content in humanistic culture and character subjects adopted from the teachings of Master Cheng Yen from Taiwan. In the case of learning in the classroom, educators train how to communicate well, remind that they must be empathetic and kind to everyone, for educators’ assessment not only from exam results but also daily attitudes. In addition, the role of parents from the research results shows that the role of parents is very important in the success of the humanist application itself. This can be seen from parents who have to monitor attitudes and learning processes when at home.

ABSTRACT This research is purposed by to describe the efforts of schools in improving the creativity of learners in the subject of Civics through the implementation of PBL. The research methodology used in this research is a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. The research subjects are including principals, teachers, and learners. In collecting the data, the techniques used observation, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using data reduction, data presentation and conclusion/verification. The result of this research shows that the efforts of the school and the principal's role in enhancing the creativity of learners are maximal. It can be proved in the provision of opportunities for learners to explore and to develop the potential and capabilities they had. Schools also provide programs "foster friends" with the purpose diminishes the administrative burden of students, especially those from poor families. This study aims to determine the implementation of the Electronic Identity Card (e-KTP) policy in the Population and Civil Registry Office of Padangsidimpuan City. In this study using the George C Edward III implementation model that is considered very appropriate and has detailed variables. This study uses a qualitative approach to data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques using data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate, the implementation of the Electronic Identity Card (e-KTP) policy has been running since 2015. However, there are still some problems encountered. Of the 4 variables in the George C Edward III implementation model namely communication, resources, disposition and bureaucrat structure. The results showed that the Disduk Capil Kota Padang Sidempuan only fulfilled 2 variables. The 2 variables are fulfilled namely disposition and bureaucrat structure. While two more variables that are not fulfilled are communication and resources.

The madrasa role has long been recognized by community. Based on Law Number 20 of 2003 concerning National Education System, madrasa is a national education sub-system. This article is descriptive-analytic with a qualitative approach. The data was collected through interviews, documentation and observation. The data then analyzed by non-statistics, such as data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The study describes a brief biography of KH. M. Mahsun Adnan, he was born in Nglaban, he studied at Tebuireng, after that he studied at PGA. After graduating, he then continued his study at Undar and then dedicated himself to da'wah and education until his death. The second focus is the struggle of KH. M. Mahsun Adnan toward Al-Adnani Islamic Elementary School Jombang, starting from being a pioneer, becoming the head of a madrasa, teaching in it and fighting to make the madrasa run up. So far, Al-Adnani Islamic Elementary School Jombang shows its existence continuesly in bringing forword the community arround through education. [Peran madrasah telah lama diakui oleh masyarakat. Madrasah berdasarkan UU Nomor 20 Tahun 2003 tentang Sisdiknas adalah sebagai sub sistem pendidikan nasional. Artikel ini berjenis deskriptif-analitik dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, dokumentasi dan observasi. Analisis data menggunakan non-statistik, yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data dan pengambilan kesimpulan. Pembahasan tulisan ini mendeskripsikan biografi singkat KH. M. Mahsun Adnan, mulai lahir di Dusun Nglaban, menimba ilmu ke Tebuireng, PGA dan kuliah di Undar lalu mengabdikan diri bagi dakwah dan dunia pendidikan hingga wafatnya. Fokus kedua adalah perjuangan KH. M. Mahsun Adnan kepada MI Al-Adnani Kayangan, mulai dari menjadi merintis, menjadi kepala madrasah, mengajar di dalamnya hingga berjuang agar madrasah tersebut tetap berkiprah. Hingga sekarang, MI Al-Adnani Kayangan tetap menunjukkan eksistensi dalam memajukan warga masyarakat sekitar melalui dunia pendidikan]
